The Gameweek continues with a Monday night encounter under the lights of the Etihad, as Manuel Pellegrini begins his tenure at City with a Premier League clash with Newcastle.

The Chilean’s first team-sheet was much anticipated and, when it arrived, it brought one major surprise. A 4-4-2 looks on the cards with Edin Dzeko rewarded for his strong summer displays with a start up front, although few expected him to be alongside Sergio Aguero. The Argentine missed the entire pre-season but is given the nod ahead of new signing Alvaro Negredo who warms the bench – there is no place for fellow new boy, Stevan Jovetic.

Behind those two, City have David Silva and Jesus Navas prompting from the flanks, with Yaya Toure and Fernandinho screening the back four, whilst no doubt alternating to join the attack. That defence is without Matija Nastasic through injury, so Joleon Lescott earns a start alongside skipper Vincent Kompany, as expected. Gael Clichy is at left-back, while Pablo Zabaleta, fresh from inking new four-year deal, starts on the right.

It’s a daunting task for Alan Pardew’s Magpies who turn up in Manchester without Yohan Cabaye following today’s £10 million bid from Arsenal. Yoan Goufran starts, then, with Jonas Gutierrez presumably shifting to a central role and Mousa Sissoko pushed up in support of striker Papiss Cisse – a 4-2-3-1 looks the likely formation. Mapou Yanga-Mbiwai starts for the injured Davide Santon at left-back, with Steven Taylor keeping his start alongside skipper Fabricio Coloccini.

Our Dugout Discussion chatroom has opened up for tonight’s match to cater for those who like some real-time chatter with their evening’s action.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Hey, I'll take it. Stupid selection, I know, but sometimes stupidity works out, kinda like Terry. 😉

I've actually got a strong feeling Terry won't start on Weds but will at OT so we should've got Cahill. If Luiz is fit

Anyone considering welbeck for united coverage for the next few tough fixtures instead of 14 mil on RVP

Lukaku unlikely to start at OT. Who's the best option to replace him with 8.0m to spend? Was thinking Lambert but Ossy signing is a worry

Thinking Dzeko but can't be dealing with 30-minute cameo's, on tonights evidence he could be a good buy but a lot of options for City.

Wolfy is a good bet, nailed-on and looked decent in his first game, Aspas might be worth considering as a differential to Sturridge.

Still don't fancy Dzeko, even if he'd got a hat-trick tonight. Aguero was very good and Negredo "scored" when he came on. I have Sturridge already. Plenty of time to think it over anyway!

He scored a goal that was incorrectly ruled out for offside hence the inverted commas 😀

How do you think aspas will fit into the team once suarez is back, or do you reckon he'll get shunted out? If so, you'd want a more long-term transfer than aspas, as tempting as he is

    Hi everyone,

    Quick question:

GW2: I was thinking of swapping Lukaku for Aguero, I already have RVP and can afford both...

However is it wise to also swap Merte for either Lescott or Coleman for a 4 point hit? Or should I hang tight for another week?

    Help much appreciated...

On 69 pts and have Haz (c) Oscar and Lukaku to go. Had Kosc, and Barkley on the bench! Could have been a very healthy start with a bit more luck!

    Zab, Coleman or Shaw.

or two of these + hit.

    Pros for each:

Zab: Good fixtures. Attacking. Season keeper.

Coleman: Good opening game. Will be worth 5.2 by next week. 0.2 gain.

Shaw: Very attacking, Good opening game. Likely to raise in value. Cheap.
