The Community Round Up

A certain Dutchman, misfiring premium midfielders and the Fantasy Premier League Bonus Points System’s (BPS) love affair with centre-backs dominated discussions among the Fantasy Football Scout community this week. We also catch up with the latest goings-on in the community leagues taking place this season.

Hottest Topics

A look at the top ten FPL points scorers  does not contain a single midfielder; a worrying development for those Fantasy managers used to premium midfielders dominating the game. The fate of expensive midfielderS has been a key discussion this week with QPR Expects…Glory among the pessimists who believe the premium midfield era is over and it is time to invest in centre backs instead. Arsene’s Boys, however, is more optimistic, pointing out that we are just two games into the season. In addition many of last year’s star midfielders such as Juan Mata and Santi Cazorla failed to perform early on, he notes.

As premium midfielders fail to excite us there is now plenty of interest in centre-backs. But is their dominance of the bonus points shortlived? Jamsiep, wonders whether we are experiencing a false dawn, due to a lower than average number of goals being scored this season. His excellent post suggests that centre-backs may not be so fortunate when the goal rate picks up.

Still on the same subject, SAAB has been considering that many of the league’s most attacking teams simply do not have a suitable midfield option for Fantasy managers. He points out that teams such as Tottenham, Manchester United, Southampton and Aston Villa currently just have forwards worth our consideration.

If Wayne Rooney stays at Manchester United could he match Robin Van Persie’s expected returns? King Nemanja’s  analysis of Rooney and RVP performances together last season provides interesting reading for those looking for a cut-price root into Manchester United’s attack.

Owning Van Persie obviously makes captaincy decisions much easier. But for those looking to mix up their armband selection, Impressive Tackle has compiled this handy long term guide to the best non-RVP captains available  all the way up to Gameweek 20.

Finally, Isacki has been taking a look  at price changes and reckons it is far tougher for players to rise in price this season. His analysis also takes a look at the time price changes kick in and how ownership level and flags influence price falls.

Community Leagues

Heels Over Head’s Worst to First 2Million+Club league, which is open to anyone who has an overall rank below 2 million during one of the first five Gameweeks, is currently topped by Gokyo Locos who rose more than 700,000 places on his long march to the top. The code to join this FPL league 459213-545168.

Patrick Star retains his lead in Fifa Las Vegas’s 28-strong league, with a score of 154, closely followed by Messimerized with 151. In joint third on 144 points are MB10 and Somebody’s Gonna Get Lit Up.

Thomass67 and Peppie and Felix’s  league is split into three  groups and topped by Thomass, Daniel and Forca Inter.

The leaders of In Tommy We Trust’s five leagues are ENR, RDB007, Forca Inter, Mind Over Mata and Chazza.

Forca Inter also topped Torres Magic’s Last Man Standing and Early Bird leagues. In the Early Bird league, 349 managers remains after 200 were knocked out, while in the Last Man Standing League, 995 are left after 43 Fantasy managers were sent packing. Entries are still open for the Early Bird League.

In the FFS UEFA leagues, Tommy Tour, the manager of Real Madrid, registered the highest score of the round, with a haul of 75 points.

The most closely fought battle in the week was in their Bundesliga league where The Shadow beat Jack off Attack by just one point. Elsewhere in their leagues , The Light Knight’s Norwich continued to maintain a stronghold on FFS UEFA’s weekly Order of Extreme Valour Award, opted to those who make the most left field choices. He opted for a 5-2-3 formation, which saw both Leighton Baines and Emmanuele Giaccherini pitching in with nine points each. His cumulative score, 67 points, was more than enough to beat the dullard team of his unfortunate opponent Jonty by 11 points.

Some late FFS UEFA news that missed last week’s round up from Gameweek 1 involved the group’s second Super Cup, in which 2012/13’s Europa League winner Acquafresca emerged triumphant 88-76 against last season’s Champions League winner MJ6987.

Meanwhile, the The FFS UEFA Transfer Window Simulation (TWS) comes to a grand finale this week with the TWS End of Season Party on Monday  September 2nd at 20:00 BST, in which team vacancies will be filled by auto-select in a live interactive draw, leaving each team’s fate up to their random number selection. The Shadow‘s Norwich is hotly pursued by a chasing pack of Zep‘s Arsenal, PeppieandFelix‘s Fulham and 4Vets‘ Liverpool. FFS UEFA also tell us that a brand new competition will be launched immediately after the TWS concludes.

In Doosra and Ginkapo’s It’s a Long and Winding Road competition the main league leader is still Back on the Horse. Meanwhile, the leaders of their H2H leagues are: TommyTour, Turbo Dog, MsRed19, Beric, Doolittle, Dino, Konig Luther.

I think I am going to have to either ditch the Rat or Toure for a hit this week to have any hope of fielding 11 men. Even then my defence is shoddy.

This is what I am looking at:
    Boruc
Chester - Rat - Coleman- Ward
    Barkley - Morrison - Walcott - Coutinho
    Soldado - Dzeko

    Bench - Benteke - Tonev - Toure

I don't want to spend any more money in defence as I have the ambition of swapping Soldado for RVP next week. Any suggestions?

just checked. If I bought a defender for 4.3 or less for Toure I could then afford swap Dzeko for RVP next week. Which I agree is a better trade. Hmm best option?

Heading down to electric picnic tomorrow night so need to get the team finalised.

    A. Is Anelka's price dropping tonight? According to Fiso he's a certainty. According to Total FPL he's on 0.8% for a rise??

    B. Which 1 should I play from Anelka, Kim & Turner?

You come across so many bands that you had never heard of before though so I like to wander around all the stages!

A bit of help if possible please guys. Already used my FT to do Hazard to Silva. Here are the options I'm left with now:

    A. Don't take a hit but rely on Ravel Morrison playing
    B. Oscar to Nolan/HBA/Paulinho/Snodgrass etc (-4)
    C. Toure to a 5.4 or less defender - already have Coleman so I guess Dawson (-4)

At the moment I'm thinking B with Nolan. Thoughts?

MF have been struggling for points so far this season. Sure they're 'bound' to explode at some point, but do you imagine Nolan will against a usually fairly solid Stoke defense?

DF have been hoovering up a lot of the bonus points due to an inordinate number of clean sheets. But do you imagine a 'historically' high scoring game such as the NLD to continue the trend?

The question I feel you are really asking is "will this weekend buck the trend of the last 2 GWs?"

I'm not sure it will. And I'm not sure Nolan or Dawson are the ones I would back to do it if I did think it would happen.

Interesting. They are the only 2 players I would want to lose. If I could afford a 5.5 defender it might be different. And I've got the whole "never make a hit for a defender" in the back of my mind. What would you do?

I'm no expert. But I would only take a hit for either a player I was going to captain for 1/2GWs, or a player I intended to keep for at least 4/5 GWs and had excellent fixtures, no rotation risk and was almost certain would more than recoup my losses.

I think sticking to rules like "never take a hit for a defender" is silly. Play the fixtures, form and stats. But in the end it's just an educated guess.

There are 3 outcomes on the match.

Arsenal win - you have covered for $X profit 6/4

Draw - bet on draw to win something 2/1

Podoy - bet on Podoy to win something 6/4

    Giroud(TOT) / Aguero(HUL) / Soldado(ars)

Shaw is doubt. Ramage, Toure, Hazard won't play. Snodgrass even he is fit, I doubt he will start. I'm thinking of -8 hit with Ramage / Toure / Hazard ➡ Coleman / Zabaleta / Nolan. That will leave me option to leave Chester(mci), Shaw(nor) and one midfielder in sub.

Any thought on this? Thanking you in advance.

    no idea what to do

could do hazard to silva and toure/ivanovic to collins for -4 (means v difficult to get rvp next week)

or could plan for rvp next week with hazard to 4.5m (james ward prowse) and toure to collins -4
Next week I do coutinho to lampard and dzeko to rvp -4

If you have Chester, Toure, Terry, Lampard and Benteke which 3 should you bench and what FT would you advise?

1 - Terry/Toure for Collins since i have Moxey-Mbiwa in defense and Boruc-Foster in goal.

2 - Lampard for Chadli/Nolan/Gerrard or someone cheaper who rotates with Kim.
    Already have Theo-Silva-Mirallas

    3 - Benteke for Sturridge/Lambert/Bent/Giroud. I have Dzeko-Soldado

    4 - another proposal...

I wouldn't do number 3 anyway. Benteke is a strong option after this week. You may need to re-examiner the Dzeko situation next week if he doesn't start at the weekend.

Depending on the injury update, maybe Toure to Collins.

        Thanks M.
Gerrard is in there because he usually scores vs United, and should be a nice punt.
And i would like to play a 3rd striker but its true that i should threat the Bosnian situation.
So probably 4 defenders with Chester its the way?

Lampard to Gerrard is a good option as well. I like playing 3 strikers as well, so I can see why you like the third option. But getting rid of Benteke is a bit too short-term in my opinion.

For anyone who wants a look at Lamela here are his goals from last season, only four players scored more than him in Serie A so very impressive. He could be a fantastic option if he's classed as a mid but I have bad feeling he will be a forward in the game.

Thanks for heads up Isacki, looks like I will have to do the most boring transfer of all time now so - Brayford to Ward

I have him too and I might have to do the same, but what a waste of a transfer.

I might as well suck up the price fall, my other defenders are all playing. Don't think he'll ever fall below 3.8, they rarely do. By which time who knows, he may even be first choice - he was very highly rated as a RB in the champo.

I'm minded to spend the transfer on one that really pays off with points.

Was strange though, he was in my team all preseason, then of course that other guy started in the final preseason game. So I'm at my computer at 11.20 on deadline day thinking who to swap him for, and I thought screw it, I can only afford another 4.0 and I don't like the look of any of the Hull or Crystal Palace defenders. That might have been a mistake, could have gone for a Hull one.

Still the possibility he will eventually win his place, isn't there.

        Are you sure about Brayford?
He currently at 73.9% for a drop on TotalFPL.

Similar thing happened with Mannone listed to drop earlier on FISO but only dropped when TotalFPL marked him to do so.

        Any hint on this?

Yeah you're right. I can't personally be sure, I can only report what the sites say. I've tried to understand the falls algorithm myself but aside from a few general details it has been made clear to me that the only way of understanding it is to run your own price change site! Apparently FISO are having problems with falls, so you may well be right. I do hope he doesn't fall as I own him.

I'm on the same boat as with as a Brayford owner.

Already took a hit so I'm taking my chances with his fall after the dealine, though it would be awful to lose value.

Great job on the price market analysis Isacky! Always great info!

      Anelka? 🙁

According to Total FPL, he is safe as houses. Is he not price protected?

You may well be right there. Only FISO have Anelka as falling (-154%) but they have had problems with falls. And have not given him protection.

If protection does exist this season, he should not fall as his flag has come off.

Put him down as probable. Falling on FISO. On the edge of falling on TFPL (-96%). May possibly not reach TFPL threshold by 2.40am, not sure which threshold is right though.
