The ScoutCast – Episode 111 – Bung

There are no brown envelopes in sight; this “bung” is firmly placed in my nasal passages as I clamber from my man-flu grief pit to sit alongside Granville and take my Gameweek medicine. After seeing me off by 21 points, it’s only fair I gave my co-host his moment of glory, regardless of being short of match fitness.

Somehow we end up arguing about Robin van Persie once again, before taking a gander at the bandwagons rolling and preview the weekend’s action the only way we know how: by rambling endlessly and singling out some dubious player picks along the way.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

For those without RVP, would you have got him at the start of the season if he was 13 million or were the fixtures too much of a turnoff?

12.5 was the cut-off for me... so no!

Don't regret it either, rest of my team is looking good because of it too

Sorry.. to qualify that (I'm not OCD) but for 12.5 I would have had my ideal mid and back as well... 14 was simply too much!

All that really matters is Pellegrinis thoughts, I hope he thinks the same way as I do. If its not broken, dont fix it. My take on it is hat City were pushing for a winner last week, Dzeko came off and they conceded two goals. Did the switch have a bearing on the outcome? Probably not but food for thought for the boss.

How much is a wildcard worth?

I know we all reluctant to take hits and maintain a good start , hence the inkling to push the wildcard button.
But how much is the wildcard actually worth?

Sometime down the line bad things are going to happen , injuries , suspensions , games called off due to weather etc. Having the wldcard available for such a scenario would have to be worth more than eight points . Right?

But here's the thing. If you rank those 10 DGW players anyone else can make those transfers for -36 (max). Assuming they already have 2-3 in their standard team and plan three weeks ahead they could have the top 6 without hits.

True. but then you also have to factor in the points lost by the players you didn't want to transfer out, but did so to accommodate this shift to your double gameweek team.

What I always find amusing about playing your WC is the very next game week you transfer out one or two of your players you WC'd in, then more the GW after. By the time the next 3 or 4 GWs come round half your original WC squad is changed! 🙂

They a double edged sword , Have seen people ruin their teams with a wildcard , usually when they used for a double gameweek.
Have regretted my own wildcards more than once , like silver says opinions can change quickly in this game , an ideal looking wildcard team can look utter rubbish a few weeks later

I posted this question the other day too. I've not got the hulking profile of you tho Trigger 😉

I reckon about 5 or 6 transfers worth so 20 ish points. It's that point in time when you have so many injuries, non players and donkeys in your team that a transfer plan is not even going to get you standing still.

LAst season at this time I used it. I had the wrong players, was missing obvious great bandwagons (Michu) and players were losing value. I used it then and I can't even quantify how much it was worth in points but in rank it was probably integral in me being top 2K by the end.

This season is a different beast, team ok, so think it'll be worth far more to take advantage of called off games and double gameweeks. Palace's ground is pants, can't believe they are going to survive a snow flurry.

I hope so and yes I think he will. A lot of 'finished' and 'mercenary' comments about Eto'o. Mourinho made it clear vs United he thinks his strikers are awful. May take him a few weeks to get the fitness up for the Prems intensity but you dont lose movement or finishing.

He has so much to his game in terms of being involved in play. I dont know the average age on here but id imagine the negativity toward him was from 14yr olds who dont know anything about him because hes been out of sight in Anzhi. Hes a beast i think Chelsea have signed the player key to them winning the title and its passed off without any fanfare crazy stuff really.

Yea, I remember when he played for Barca he was the complete striker. Quick, powerful, used both feet and had a quality shot on him. Then Inter signed him, they got lots of money and gave Barca Ibra! One of the strangest transfer deals ever made! Lol 🙂

"The Albion boss is set to give Boaz Myhill the nod over Luke Daniels between the sticks against the Swans, after the Wales international returned to training following a wrist injury.

“Boaz is a Wales international and is just in front of Luke,” he added.

“He didn’t play on Tuesday because his first day back training was on Monday. He’s trained again today and if everything is okay with his wrist he’ll start on Sunday.”

And Clarke explained how the Baggies’ search for potential goalkeeper cover is developing.

“We’ll run with the two very good goalkeepers we have at the moment,” he said.

“We’re looking at the market to see if we can bring in another experienced back-up because 12 weeks is a long time in football.

“If we picked up another injury to a goalkeeper we’d be a little bit short because the other goalkeeper we’ve got is young Jack Rose and he’s not quite ready for the step up yet.

“There are a number of names being thrown around.

“I’m not going to speak about names.

“There are a number of good goalkeepers available – some are out of contract.”

Front line great - Giroud & Lambert are really good value this season. Not a fan of Kos, I think you can do much better for the money (Coleman although a huge bandwagon is providing very good returns thus far for less). And is Barkley a 'smart' choice for your 5th mid long term? I think you may be better served picking a player who is a nailed on 90 minute player as your 5th mid (will save a transfer later if Gibson comes back in and Barkley become a bench player).

My opinion of the 5th mid is a little bit different to others. Im not looking for a punt or explosive returns as they will be on my bench 95% of the season. My 5th mid is Jedinak as I feel confident that he will play every game and will be there if and when he is required. Boring but safe.

Yeah, obviously he is by far the best centre-back at the club, but we have Rio, Evans, Smalling and Jones to keep content. I wouldn't be surprised to see him rested during some Prem games, especially before/after Champions League away games.

I admit it's possible but Prem and Champions League are the priorities and the team is significantly weaker without him. Hopefully he is in good enough shape now that he can just sit out the Capital One cup ties and he is currently retired from international duty.

Here is why I think he won't be

      1. Hungry for his 1st goal at Old Trafford this season
      2. Moyes has an agenda and is not settled enough to be resting the top player so early in the season. Imagine if united dropped points, he would be under major pressure which can impact the games in cl and v city. You will probably see him coming off early after 75-80 mins if they are winning
      3. Moyes is not known for major rotation. At everton he changed the side mainly if there were injuries. The main players like baines and fellaini played every game last couple of seasons when fit
      4. 3 games into a season is too early to be resting players
      4. RVP is better when he plays consistently. Last season he proved this and I think he prefers it.

Oscar is a good shout Parm, i'm considering him myself after GW4. Want to see how Willian is integrated into the team first...

Saving my FT this week to reassess over the International break. I may consider a -8(or WC) to sort it out if worse comes to worse.

Out of the 3 you've listed i'll be monitoring Eto'o closely.

Never knew how highly rated Lamela was, will certainly be keeping a close eye on him. I think all these midfield signings by Spurs just strengthen the appeal of Soldado. Yes Lamela scores goals but also provides assists and Soldado is a goalscorer first and foremost. Decent bet for top goalscorer.

Have an up vote Arnold! (just for the Grav)

Lamela is the only one that interests me at this stage (based purely on his numbers last few seasons). If he is less than 9 mil could come straight in

        Likewise for your Grav!

I've never even seen Lamela play. I'm just letting myself be swept up by the hype train but like someone said above, I suppose his first 1/2 games are gonna be risky, selection wise.

I have never seen him play (will youtube him in about 5 mins) but the numbers alone make for compelling reading. If he is 9 mil may do Coutinho > him straight up after I do Dzeko to Benteke next week.

With Erik Lamela signing with spurs for 30 million do people think he is nailed on to start or will he lose any significant game time to Lennon?

Surely has to be! Although I wouldnt even consider getting him yet because he might make his debut off the bench, or take a bit more time to adjust enough to start every game

Just can't believe he won't play week in week out, hoping he is no more than 9, wild carding next week so want him in.

My best automatic substitution ever has to be last yearwhn Kompany was restedand it brought Fonte off my bench who scored two. I don't think he scored any others the whole season. Can anyone beat that?

WC'd this week to claw back some points after a bad start (taken GW4 into account), but I reckon at least 40% of FPL players will do theirs for GW4. Especially if defenders pick up BP this week...
