The Big Numbers – Gameweeks 1-3 – Defenders

With another seven days left until the deadline for Gameweek 4, there’s plenty time to ponder the numbers in our Members section. While some Fantasy managers still contemplate pressing the wildcard button, we take a look at some of the most notable attacking statistics on offer so far – in the first in a series of three articles, we begin with the defenders.

    Morning all, how are we?
Anyone reckon Soldado or Studge to Bentekkers is worth a -4 this week? (Studge if it turns out he's actually injured)

Chaps, current WC side as follows.

    Boruc
    Coleman Zabeleta Enrique
    Ozil Walcott Nolan Toure Michu
    Giroud Benteke

    Davies Chester Ward Fryatt

Fryatt clearly a sleeper but 4.4m

    Would you go

    A) Nolan and Fryatt
    B) barclay and Bent

    Do like Nolans track record.

    Help pls

Don't think Sturridge will get as many points after Suarez comes back and he is also a bit of a crock. Soldado I do like but wanted a bit more balance to side and like 5 man midfield. Think long term its still the option even if the big players haven't scored much yet.

Get rid of Michu and put Hernández if you want a Swansea player Yaya Tour'e is doing well but they are playing Man U the following game week.
Chelsea have great midfielders but which one will play on a regular basis ? I have Lampard but mite change it to Willian later.
Gareth Barry is cheap also check out Spurs Lamela and Eriksen are both good player.

Soldado hasn't looked great so far but now he has better players providing for him, that could change,

Sturridge will keep scoring all season IMO, unless Suarez cocks it up.

Can't you get Tekkers in for someone else?

No. There have been a low number of goals per game scored this season to date. It may remain lower than previous seasons, but not as low as in the 3 weeks gone.

That article more or less tells us that there weren't many goals in GW2/3. It doesn't really deal with the question of whether this is a long-term or short term phenomenon.

Have taken -8 to get this lot

    Boruc Mignolet
    Coleman, Zab, Ivan, shaw, Mbiwa
    Walcott, Silva,Brady, Kim, Coutinho
    Welbeck, Sturridge, Giroud.

If sturridge is confirmed to start for pool I will probably leave it but does this lot require a wildcard? Or just leave at -8?

Your team looks OK at the moment. Decent defence, Big midfield and proven goalscorers.

Bit early to say but Lukaku might be a good option. Not this week though.

What about - and this is a bit random - keeping Dzeko and relying on one of your subs to supplement his points if he doesn't play. How would this tactic have worked last year?

Not a Welbeck fan, however not as bad a move as most on here seem to think. Considering the exact move myself. The fact is that if Utd open up Palace, then Welbeck ashe did against Swans is capable of high returns. A big upgrade from Dzeko in terms of fixture.

anyone willing to take a punt on how many cleanies swansea will keep over their next 10..?

with everyone getting hernandez in, i feel like a differential and ben davies seems to be the go. as he can sneak in some assists and even goals every now and then.

    Migs Lewis

    Lamela Walcott Fellaini Barkley Brady

Zab's fixtures aren't great. I'd be tempted to downgrade him to Mert/Kos and upgrade Vidic to Evra.

Are you not concerned about Barkley's playing time with Everton having signed 2 mids and only got rid of 1?

I'd prefer Benteke to Sturridge but that's just personal preference really.

I'd be keen to monitor Fellaini's average position before taking a punt on him at 8.5 too but with Rooney out and Kagawa seemingly out of favour - it could pay off

      No glaring issues.

I have both Benteke and Sturridge.

I have no confidence in Arsenals defence and feel that Zabs assists will make up for potential lack of cleanies with the tough fixture list.

I agree Fellaini is a risk. His inclusion is based on the next game being his debut, he'll be out to impress and it's home vs palace.

B if he nails his place (unlikely)
C . . . Well I currently have him and I'm a bit bothered about seeing how he functions in an Ozil midfield (when Arteta gets back you'd imagine his game time will be pretty restricted - but then his form's been terrific, so who knows!)

      GOLKEEPERS:
Hildebrand - I believe he represents the best value for a 4.5m gk in the game. Great fixtures and value.
Wiland - Only starting 3.5m gk in the game. Shame Kobenhavn (team he plays for) are in a group with Juventus and Real Madrid.
Diego Lopez - Many will be disappointed, the 3.5m Real Madrid gk is set to only start in La Liga games while Casillas plays in the CL games according to a recent report by Marca.

      DEFENDERS:
Uchida - 4.0m Schalke def, not completely nailed on but starts more often than not. Nice cheap route into Schalke defense with a favourable group.
Ambrose - 3.5m Celtic def, only starting defender at that price in the game.

      MIDFIELDERS:
Bruno - 4.0m mid whose scored 5 goals in 6 games so far this season. He's also OOP.
Josue - 4.5m Porto mid whose scored 2 goals in 3 games so far.

      FORWARDS:
Lima - 5.5m Benfica fwd. Now this guy is worth it. Nailed on and in 3 games so far in the Portuguese league has 1 goal and 1 assist. Excellently priced and is in a favourable group too with a great first fixture.
Markovic - Not sure of game time but a 4.5m Benfica forward could be worth it. 2 goals in 2 games off the bench.
Musa - 5.5m CSKA fwd, been scoring nicely in the Russian league, he's one for matchday 2 when CSKA face Viktoria Plzen at home.

Think I've covered the best budget options in the game here 🙂

      Marveaux NEW

Didn't start the first match & subsequently had his price drop to £4.9.

Lots of chances created thus far & appears to be nailed on. (Feel free to correct me though...)

As for JWP... SOU has a glut of midfielders & honestly I don't think he's a long term play.

What do people think of the prospects of Lee Camp, Carl Jenkinson and Lescott getting game time over the next few weeks? Camp, in particular, could be a good shout with Foster out.
