Scout Scribbles – Toure On Course for Liberty Return

Kolo Toure returns to training and is confident of making Liverpool’s trip to Swansea next Monday evening. Andy Carroll suffers a foot injury setback upon his return to West Ham training, Ian Holloway loses a couple of players to ankle injuries, while Villa new boy Jores Okore reveals he’s finally match-fit after sustaining a hamstring injury over the summer:

Toure Back in Training

Reports in the local press suggest Kolo Toure is in line to be fit for Liverpool’s Gameweek 4 trip to Swansea. The Ivorian missed the previous league encounter against United due to a groin injury but returned to training yesterday and with the Liberty clash not taking place until next Monday evening, is afforded plenty time for recuperation. His performances over the first couple of league fixtures have earned plenty praise from Brendan Rodgers, with the Reds boss saying:

“Kolo is the type of character that I love in a back four, an organiser and a leader. I think whether he’s playing with Daniel or whether he’s playing with Martin Skrtel, you need that leadership. Daniel’s a wonderful talent, he’s an international captain, he’s one of the best left-sided players in the world, so it’s two experienced players, but it’s important that you play together, and they’ve held us together really well.”

The Scout Says: Toure’s potential return gives Rodgers plenty to consider as he attempts to preserve the last 100% defensive record in the Premier League. New boy Mahamadou Sakho is pushing for a place alongside Daniel Agger, while Martin Skrtel impressed in the 1-0 win over David Moyes’ side – given that Sakho has been hailed as “a marquee signing” we may quickly get an idea of just where Toure stands in the pecking order. With a price tag of just 5.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) the former Arsenal and City player has afforded us a budget-friendly route into Liverpool’s defence but it remains to be seen if he can hold off the challenge of Sakho for a regular role. Rodgers has the alternative of fielding him at full-back if Glen Johnson is ruled out with a knee injury but the Ivorian’s comparative lack of mobility down the flank may see Andre Wisdom or Martin Kelly favourite to deputise on the right.

New Setback for Carroll

West Ham have confirmed Andy Carroll has sustained another foot injury upon his return to first-team training yesterday. Having failed to feature this term due to a heel problem, the summer signing had been expected to return for Saturday’s trip to Southampton but according to the club’s official website:

“Although it is in the same part of his foot as his previous injury, it is a new injury and therefore there will be no prognosis until he has seen a specialist.”

The Scout Says: Having failed to add to their forward options towards the end of the transfer window, West Ham look drastically short of option up top should Carroll be set for a prolonged spell on the sidelines. Sam Allardyce’s side have failed to score since the 2-0 home win over Cardiff back in Gameweek 1 and with doubts over both Joe Cole and Stewart Downing ahead of the St Mary’s clash, it’s likely that Modibo Maiga will lead the line once again, with Ricardo Vaz Te coming in from the cold to take a place on the right flank. With showdowns against Everton, Spurs and City in the next five, Carroll’s likely absence is a worrying sign for Allardyce’s side – with unconfirmed reports suggesting he could be out for up to three months, Allardyce is scouring the free agent market and is rumoured to be closing in on a deal for former Fulham forward Mladen Petric.

Okore Looks to Make His Mark

Aston Villa’s new centre-half Jores Okore has spoken of his determination to make an impact at the back after a hamstring problem curtailed him game time over the summer period:

“I hurt my hamstring in pre-season, but I am feeling good now and I’m feeling comfortable. I don’t feel anything in my hamstring any more. Now I just need to get some air in my lungs and then I’m good to go. I feel fine now and I feel confident.”

The Scout Says: Sidelined for the first match of Villa’s double Gameweek 1, Okore climbed off the bench to replace Nathan Baker for the following fixture against Chelsea. The Danish international was then afforded his first start for Paul Lambert’s side against Liverpool last time out and now looks in the driving seat to retain his place alongside Ron Vlaar in the heart of the midlanders’ backline ahead of both Baker and Ciaran Clark. Coming in at 4.4 in FPL, Okore could be one to watch if he can replicate the goal threat that saw him score four times in the league for FC Nordsjælland last season.

Injury Woes for Holloway

Crystal Palace were dealt a double injury blow yesterday with news that Jack Hunt and youngster Jonathan Williams are set for spells on the sidelines. Hunt –who has only just arrived from Huddersfield – has sustained a broken ankle in training for the Eagles, while Williams is reported to have picked up ankle ligament damage in Wales’ game against Macedonia last weekend could be out for anything between six weeks and five months.

The Scout Says: Hunt’s absence merely underlines the importance of regular right-back Joel Ward for Holloway’s side. With left-back Jonathan Parr stepping up his fitness, Dean Moxey’s security of starts is no longer guaranteed, while the acquisition of Adrian Mariappa gives Holloway further options at centre-half – Ward, at 4.0 in FPL, looks the most secure of Palace’s cut-price defensive assets. Williams has been introduced from the bench in all three Gameweeks so far but with Holloway snapping up the likes of Jason Puncheon, Jimmy Kebe and Jerome Thomas in a 16-player shopping spree over the summer, his game time looked far from certain prior to yesterday’s news.

Despite my squad's injury problems and lack of form, decided not to wildcard because playing it early last year cost me hugely when it came to the final shake-up. This is my team:

    Boruc / Foster
    Toure / Collins / Chester / Coleman / Baker
    Coutinho / Silva / Walcott / Mirallas / Morrison
    RVP / Lambert / Anelka

    This week thinking of doing
    Coutinho > Lampard
    Anelka > Bent

    4 points. Thoughts?

Bent is a decent pick with his price & fixtures. Wouldn't get Lampard tho. Would rather one of the Tott midfielders

uuh, nice comments on Toure fromt the coach. Gives us owners new hope. I can seriously see him keeping his place with Sakho maybe at LB and Enrique at RB or maybe pushed further up front

With wildcards in play this week alot of familiar names keep getting mentioned. Here's your chance to add some new names into the pot of those that have gone under the radar but you think will be a great source of points over the coming weeks.

There are always hundreds of players under the radar, and most of them are there for a reason. There will be a few hidden gems if you can find them, and some reasonable punts, but most will have been rejected for good reasons.

Why never captain him? I wish I'd followed my gut feeling and captained him instead of Walcott in GW2 (he scored 9 points to Walcott's 5). I did captain him for a DGW once and he scored 4+4 before doubling, which was better than the rest of the rabble in my squad achieved that week.... I must admit though that handing him the armband on two later occasions both failed, so perhaps you may be right after all.

Not at all! Not every purchase of a player who scored well is knee-jerky.
I need a midfielder, ideally until the January WC and he has good fixtures until GW 17. Of course I planned to buy Swansea in GW8 just for their great run of fixtures but they play Crystal Palace between two home games (LIV, ARS) which isn't so bad, is it?
My initial plan was Ramsey or Taarabt and then switch to a Swansea mid anyway in 4 gameweeks.

i dont think he'll score many goals - at least, he hasnt in the past. he'll depend more on assists which arent rewarded with baps.

    Dzeko / Soldado / Benteke

1 FT, £5.0m in the bank.

    If silva is ruled out..
    Dzeko + Silva + Ivanovic ----> RVP + Lampard + Vidic (-8)

    Artur (Helton)
    Alaba - Maxwell - Ebque (Ambrose, F.Santana)
Isco - Ribery - Daxler - Bruno (Josue)

Careful, Isco is carrying an injury at the moment. I also think Courtois is a better pick than Helton as your second gameday goalkeeping cover. Atletico beasted it defensively last season and have picked up where they left off.

-we will know more about Nani

How to win your ml (dirty tricks but no cheating!)

    1. Always taunt rivals. It works every time. They get nervous!

    2. If you're ahead send messages or speak to rivals and tell them exactly what you're going to do with your captain Then do it! They'll start punting to be different and lose points they'll be too proud to copy you they'll forget its a marathon not a sprint then in a few gws they'll be a hundred points behind

    3. Don't be biased and bring in people you hate. But don't let your rivals know it. And suddenly bring in your most hated player at the last minute if he's going to do well. Works best end of season.

4.People don't like their teams getting hacked. But if they leave their team logged in always take a look. If they're tinkering and they've got loads of transfers that's the team they're trying to get to in about 6 weeks time. That's pretty stupid because there's no way prices will stay the same, injuries won't happen and there won't be any bandwagons. But they like to dream and tinker and this way you can probably predict what they'll do for the next two weeks.

5.Give the best fpl advice to any women in the mini league. Men hate getting beaten by girls so start punting more and losing. Also you could end up going out with her after the season ends.

    6. Change your names to taunt your rivals as well as using the forum. Nothing worse than beating geoff is your team name is called 'I made geoff my...'

7 tell rivals that you plan to bring in all their players so they can't catch up. This drives them mad

    8. Use reverse psychology whener you can. Start giving good advice (near season end) and they'll do the opposite

    9. Tell them you're not going to make any transfers to let them catch up. Make sure you have a big lead before doing this. They'll get annoyed when you're still more successful than them (don't do it for more than three weeks)

    10. Last but best. If you've got a huuuge lead before the end of the season, really start humiliating them. Do 20 transfers for a huge hit. ..Or say the dog picked the team. People don't like getting beaten by animals or generally anything with a tail.

I've won my main mini league every year using many of these tactics. They work. Last season I spent a good few weeks saying Suarez will never join my team...only to get him in just before he scored a hatful against Norwich(I think it was Norwich, may have been another). Great moment.

I don't try any of these for the mods and contribs league though as they are far too savvy.

Sometimes your rivals won't listen but someone at the bottom will...hell start climbing the table and with a few lucky punts (hell have some player that did nothing all score a hatrick) hell end up being one of your rivals!! Terrible.

The only one that works with the seasoned managers is #2.

We see it all the time on here. The seasoned players think they can pull up some obscure stat and gain a lead on you by captaining a punt. It doesn't work. Punt with your squad not with your captain.

Two freekicks......I'd even wager that Yaya won't score another free kick all year.

Pablo however I do like as an option, he's had his bedding down year and was an incredible signing from Valencia. He has a lot to prove as well and is doing it.

Negredo I agree is likely to start, still I just don't like Silva's positioning, he always seems a little too wide and 9.4 mil is ridiculous. Wouldn't be surprised to see him go on a Gareth Bale 2011/12 style 2/3 point streak.

      Lamela for coutinho mate

Neither of them has scored this season

But one did very well in the league last season

And also plays for the team at the top

The other plays for a team that hasn't scored from open play in the league yet

      Easy choice!

Looks good to me. Would be slightly concerned about Vidic. When CL starts back is he going to play mid week and at the weekend or will there be rotation considering his injury record.

surely vidic will. hes the best CB they have. Rio won't play both games, but Vidic should.

Terrible shooting though. 2nd effort looked offside.

Yaya isn't going to score free kicks every week. Get Coutinho, Michu or Lamela
