Our preview of the weekend fixtures outlines the Scout’s agenda – our points of interest that will come under focus when the Gameweek action gets underway. The Liverpool and United strike pairings, England’s new darling and a pair of young starlets stirring up the budget midfield market are on our hit-list.

Suarez vs Sturridge Part Three
So far, it’s gone the way of Daniel Sturridge. A brace of assists helped the England striker outscore Luis Suarez on his return at the Stadium of Light and Gameweek 7’s maximum Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus haul ensured he emerged as victor in the 3-1 win over Crystal Palace. Sturridge owners have earned four points more than those who opted for Uruguayan over the past two matches, with the former Chelsea man grabbing an 18-point armband haul against the Eagles. With 1.4 between them in price, Sturridge undoubtedly has the advantage going into the trip to Newcastle – if that one also falls in his favour, it will be interesting to see if the confidence in Suarez takes a dent.

Glen Johnson’s Return
Back in training this week, the fleet-footed right-back has been dearly missed by Brendan Rodgers, who has shifted his formation to compensate for the lack of a suitable replacement. Johnson’s return to the frame could be significant for Fantasy managers, who will have themselves a raiding full-back in an accomplished defence for 5.8 in the FPL – making him the cheapest secure starter in the Liverpool rearguard along with the favoured keeper, Simon Mignolet. It’s uncertain whether Rodgers will persevere with the 3-4-1-2 on Johnson’s return – if he does, and a wing-back role awaits, his potential would be boosted further.

Wenger’s Teamsheet
With Santi Cazorla expected to return and Theo Walcott also rumoured to be in the frame if he can prove his fitness, Arsene Wenger’s burgeoning options are set to hand him an immediate selection headache. Mikel Arteta now seems installed in central midfield alongside the tenacious talents of Mathiu Flamini, so Wenger looks to have three slots to fill with Mesut Ozil surely untouchable for one berth. Aaron Ramsey’s withdrawal on 59 minutes at West Brom raised some minor alarm bells and, with Cazorla, Walcott and Jack Wilshere now competing with the Welshman for two shirts, we look to be heading into a prolonged period of uncertainty when it comes to Wenger’s teamsheet. That may even start with Saturday’s home Emirates encounter with Norwich. Ozil’s owners will certainly be hoping the knee problem sustained against Sweden last night doesn’t force him out or persuade the Gunners boss to rest the German.

Januzaj’s Pitchtime
Having won the three points at Sunderland with two sublime strikes, United’s starlet has leapt onto our radars and earned two FPL price rises. At just 4.9, the youngster is the latest cut-price midfield asset to demand our attention and, potentially, he could go on to rival the bandwagons of both Ramsey and Everton’s Ross Barkley. Much depends on David Moyes. I’m expecting Saturday’s teamsheet to reward Januzaj with another opportunity to impress but events could go either way. Put in another convincing display and a continued run of starts may come his way; fail to reproduce his form at the Stadium of Light and it’s likely we’ll see him earn an hour before giving way to the experience of Ashley Young or Nani. That outcome would cast doubt over his place in the United pecking order and temper the current rate of investment.

The Van Persie & Rooney Tallies
The Old Trafford meeting with the Saints is significant for Januzaj’s Fantasy prospects but perhaps vital to those of Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie. With back-to-back home matches to come, owners of the United strike pairing will be depending on returns to reward the patience that has seen them resist the allure of doubling on Liverpool’s forward line, or perhaps joining the wave of support for Everton’s Romelu Lukakau. Both Rooney and Van Persie enjoyed profitable international breaks – confidence should be high, then. Draw a blank against resilient Southampton, however, and Fantasy managers will continue to question whether Moyes’ tactics and approach are hampering the potential output of his strikers.

The Arnautovic Starting Role
Handed the job of leading the line in the 1-0 defeat at Fulham, Marko Arnautovic fired in more shots on goal than any other midfielder in Gameweek 7. While that hints at the potential on offer, there are real and growing concerns in the Potteries that Mark Hughes’ tactics have dulled Stoke’s cutting edge further. With just a single goal in their last four league outings, the Britannia clash with West Brom is a vital one, both for Hughes and for Arnautovic’s Fantasy appeal. If he is deployed as the central striker again and succeeds in breaking Stoke’s drought, the Austrian’s bandwagon will surely be underway.

Morrison Against Toure
Ravel Morrison’s form is undeniable. A superb solo effort at Spurs in Gameweek 7 was followed by a brace for England’s Under 21 side this week, as Morrison continues to show the talent that once had Sir Alex Ferguson purring. Fantasy managers are coming round to his appeal now that his starting role is firming up. At just 4.4 in midfield, I’ve been viewing the Hammers prospect as an “enabler” – a bit-part Fantasy asset with a price tag that liberates funds. However, Morrison can be far more than that. Given his form, there’s an argument to suggest that Morrison could be a regular Fantasy starter, even in a 3-4-3. His display against City sharing the pitch with the formidable Yaya Toure, will go a long way to show both Sam Allardyce and us Fantasy managers that he means business and is here to stay.

The West Ham full-backs
Despite decent defensive form, Big Sam has taken to rotating his back four in recent weeks. James Collins has lost out to James Tomkins and now Allardyce seems unsure on his first choice full-backs. Having brought Razvan Rat into the starting lineup, he dumped Guy Demel to the bench in Gameweek 6, only to restore him at the expense of Joey O’Brien for the win at Spurs last time out. Despite some tricky fixtures to come, Fantasy managers will continue to consider the West Ham defence following the shut-out at Spurs. Some clarity on personnel would be useful, otherwise our targets could be limited to Winston Reid and Jussi Jaaskelainen in goal.

Silva’s Impact on City
The influence of David Silva in City’s win over Everton was there for all to see. Returning to Manuel Pellegrini’s lineup for the first time since Gameweek 3, Silva immediately returned an assist while his prompting and probing helped link play and unlock the Toffees defence. City already top the goal charts, without yet providing a key target for Fantasy managers. Another slick performance from Silva, perhaps providing the catalyst for more goals from Alvaro Negredo or Sergio Aguero in the process, could change that.

Townsend’s Domestic Form
As England’s new darling, Andros Townsend will take superb form and confidence into Tottenham’s trip to Villa, just as Aaron Lennon makes a return to fitness to challenge his starting role. Townsend will surely start in the Midlands and will earn further opportunity to cement his starting berth in the light of renewed competition. So far, Fantasy returns have been minimal but the stats in our members area suggest that Townsened’s propensity to shoot will eventually bring rewards once Spurs click as an attacking force. At just 5.5, Townsend could yet emerge as the key differential target in Andre Villas-Boas’ midfield while all the attention has been on Christian Eriksen, Paulinho and Gylfi Sigurdsson.

The Benteke Effect
Paul Lambert is remaining coy on the fitness of his star striker but, having trained and featured on Belgium’s bench, Benteke looks set to play some part against Spurs. I’ll be anticipating an instant impact – a rejuvenation of Villa’s attacking threat following the blank at Hull last time out. His fitness and sharpness will need to be assessed but, if he comes through Sunday’s encounter, there’s no question that Benteke will be back on the radar and force us to reconsider our chosen front three once again.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Thinking about Schurrle. He's 7.3 and has 0.8% ownership. I understand the rotation argument but then i keep thinking of that game against Steaua when Schurrle completely bossed the left flank and when they scored he ran over to Jose who gave him a massive hug and a proper pat on the back (video link below).

In whatever team he manages Jose has his favorites and i think Schurrle represents everything he looks for in a player. Tall, strong, fast, hard working, technically gifted but very direct, capable of scoring, and can play in a variety of positions.

If he starts this week he may well be going in my team for GW9.

but that only means rotation is less of an issue as he can cover multipe positions, all in attacking midfield areas so his goal threat is unlikey to change, plus he can cover as striker

did you see him as a striker?
my thought is he played him up top in hardest game, (well what should have been)
then in easy games he puts him out wide and there are 3 other attacking mids inside as well as a striker

I don't see him as a striker but he can sometimes can be played as a stiker, even if its just for the last 20 minutes when Jose closes up shop. The point is that it adds to his appeal.

He is a good player, but then again so was Lukaku and still didn't get enough game time under Mourinho.

Like every rotated player you just have to roll with the missing minutes and don't have too many in your squad. Having said that City players are a better rotated pick due to the high number of goals at th mo compared to other teams, that could change though.

Considering HBA out, though I too have Siggy and Moses and don't fancy either of them. Have one FT and 2.5 in the bank. considering Michu or Oscar.

          What do you reckon?

Michu. Oscar might get rested due to his long trip back from Asia. Michu also has decent fixtures and is less of a rotation risk.

i'm just looking for the right push to get Moses out for a hit this week...

Of those 3, I'd kick Moses straight out for Michu.

If Coutinho is back Moses might get shifted to the wing where he is more effective. Just something to consider. A front three of Suarez/Sturridge/Moses with Coutinho is pretty tasty.

Moses would be on the chopping block for me. HBA and Newcastle look to have some confidence now (though there terribly inconsistent.) and Siggy has had his moments this year and Tottenham will be pushing for a win and goal against Villa after there terrible performance against West Ham at home.

Brady and Ramsey for Michu and Ravel? Ravel would be my 5th midfielder.

              My team is currently

              Migs
              Baines, Davis, Johnson
Brady (Michu), Ramsey (Ravel), Ozil, Barkley, Yaya
              Lukaku, Sturridge, Giroud

I would just start the three most likely to score points, would have thought Distin has a good chance of a cleansheet. There is nothing wrong with playing three players from the same team when they have an easy fixture.

Moses owners might have got themselves another GW to get frustrated by Moses. Coutinho not expected back until Oct 26 (GW9)

"Brazilian playmaker Coutinho, 21, is also stepping up his recovery following surgery on a shoulder injury sustained during the 2-2 draw at Swansea on Sept. 16.

Rodgers has indicated that his likeliest return date will be Oct. 26, when Liverpool host West Brom in a league fixture."

                    Its Fuzzy!

Yes, a rare cameo. Question lads,

Kolarov. Is he nailed on over Clichy regardless of Clichy's fitness at this point? If so, Im looking to bring him in after City get these next two road matches outta the way.

                    Cheers

Kolarov never seems nailed on. If Clichy is fit I don't see Kolarov outing him. Also seems to be Zabaleta, Nas, Kompany, and Clichy (when healthy)

This is just not true, he played GWs 3, 5, 6 and 7, Clichy was fit for all of them. He also started in the CL with Clichy fit.

                          Clichys could have lacked fitness.

Clichy has been the preferred back since 2011. Clichy has 2970,2487,2335 mins over the last 3 years. Kolarov has 1056,823,1719 mins over the last 3 years. When fully fit I still believe Clichy will play.

new manager new rules. Clichy played 90 mins in C1 Cup, he is fully fit.

Explain GW3. Clichy wasn't injured, he just got dropped. Kolarov is first choice now.

Like a lot of things with City, Yaya being another good example. You can't make statements based on how things were under Mancini.

You can chose to think that way if you wish. I just happen to think you are wrong.

We will see. Your right that there is a new manager. However class is class. And Kolarov does not have the same class as clichy.

Lets just see by game week 10 if your still going to captain Kolarov.

Well he came in GW3 when Clichy was fit and has started every game since. Bar C1 Cup. Now Clichy was injured for a couple of those games, but even when he was fit Kolarov was still starting. Is he nailed? No. Is he first choice? IMO yes, I think it's his spot to lose now. I've had him since GW3, until I see Clichy start 2 or 3 on the spin I'm not selling him

What are thoughts on Townsend over the next 2-3 game weeks? Looked really good in qualifiers and seriously considering getting him in for a hit for JWP (if Ozil is ruled out).

Is his game time secure next 2-3 weeks? Got alot of minutes in qualifiers and concerned he might not start this weekend, though he really is riding on form and on confidence. Not sure what AVB will do.

My theory is that playing for England makes you look good purely based on the players around you. Same applies to Jack Wilshere and Danny Wellbeck.

Yeah, Townsend isn't really a point getter in fantasy anyways. I think his best season was 2 goals and 2 assist. He is a good player just not for fantasy. I was just thinking at 5.5 there are some good options out there. Amafiltano, barkley, Brady (when not hurt). All seem to be good fantasy point players.

All those movies are great on first watch. Not so much on 2nd.

                      Nolan for the win. Always.

Probably my least favourite film of his, but that's pretty much akin to my 'least favourite flavour of Krispy Kreme donut wrapped in tenners'.

                    Question on price changes

I bought Michu at the start of the season @9mil. Since then he has gone down to 8.9 and then back up to 9 but my selling price is the latter ? Surely that's not fair ?

Um, what would you like your selling price to be?

Those who bought him at 8.9 can only sell at 8.9 currently you realise?

I'm not particularly bothered as I'm going to keep hold of him. However for argument sake I think the selling price should be 9mil.

The point is I didn't buy him at 8.9 but I am now being treated as if I did ! He's dropped 0.1 but I need an increase of 0.2 in order to breakeven

Just checked your transfer history - you brought him in on your GW6 wildcard - I'm guessing he was actually 8.9 at that point?

Go to Transfers and then Data View and you can see your purchase price.

Whilst I've had him from the start I forgotten I had transferred him out during my WC (to take adv of price rises) and brought him back in.

What!? If a player goes down, you keep him and then he goes back up, you get the full value you bought him for.
If he continues to rise you get 50% net of increases after that.

                        But he hasn't

I bought him for 9mil which his purchase price now but for me his selling price is still 8.9. So in order to breakeven I need him to raise to 9.1. Additionally in order to make a 0.1 profit he needs to rise to 9.3 as opposed to just being 9.2

On 25 November 2011, Osvaldo was apparently angry with teammate Erik Lamela after not receiving a pass during the 0–2 defeat at Udinese and was fined and suspended by his club for punching Lamela in the face.

Would love to bring one in -- perhaps Vidic out, Terry in after the Man City game.

Vidic has been such a massive disappointment.

I got rid of Vidic for Terry before the Norwich match, I think. But with Chelsea's upcoming fixtures I wouldn't want to go without one, but not for a hit though. Vidic has a good chance of a clean sheet this weekend.

Am i mad thinking of Ron Vlaar at 4.4? Villa 2 CS in last 3

                      Anyone better with good fixtures?

Vlaar is a good option imo, go for it.

Can anyone recommend some absolute MUST SEE films? Can be recent or old. I'm lacking inspiration in what films to watch at the moment.

                        Inception is ace.
I assume you've seen the classics, like Raiders of the lost arc, which is officially the best film ever made *

                        What type do you like?

I'd always recommend something by Micheal Powell and Emeric Pressburger. Peeping Tom if you like horror, A Matter of Life of Death..if you like fantasy and british humour or Black Narcissus if you like claustrophobic thrillers.

Martin Scorsese's 70s stuff is always good as well...Mean Streets and Taxi Driver especially.

And this week I watched Jason and The Argonauts again. Truly remarkable film and my eight year old son was spellbound.

And finally Time Bandits...if you've not seen it and like Monty Python humour then see this.

how can you 'mind' subtitles? unless ure not able to read. the alternative is dubbing and i've never watched anything dubbed that i was able to take seriously. * may seem a hugely irrelevant question but the subject was raised on last page and like hell i'm goin back there. full of folk livin in the past

Given Wenger's vastly increasing midfield options and Ozil's doubt. Is it worth transferring him out, free?

No. Surely not. Wait at least till the pressys.

Even with those options he will play 90% at least and the better the players around him the more assists.

I however don't have him am am playing WC and playing catch up, but think it will cost me to a degree but can't see at this point an extra 1.4m from walcott to him being worth it.

He is not dropping in price so I'd hold unless we hear definitively that he's out.

if you can play 11, I'd bench and then sell him for Walcott

Walcott has never done anything for my score. I'll see what the line up looks like.

HELP! Should I take a hit?
Defenders are Walker, Clyne, Coleman, Whittaker and Chester. First three likely to play, but Clyne vs Man Utd. Other two unlikely to play.
Then I have Ozil (injury worry), Brady (likely still injured) and Oscar (possible rest) in midfield.
I want to have 11 on the pitch, clearly need to replace Whittaker at some stage - worth taking a hit for, say, Whittaker>Evra (I have spare cash) with his kind fixtures coming up, then putting Clyne on the bench to back up any possible injured/rested midfielders?
Wish I'd saved that wildcard, I feel I'm four transfers away from the team I want and constantly chasing. Have a plan to get RVP but by the time I do, he'll probably have scored a hattrick or two...

I would definitely take the hit i think. Not sure it requires a wildcard, you'd really regret it if Ozil and Oscar both started. Whittaker to Evra is a fine move

Thanks, Demi. Also considering Rafael. Slightly cheaper, was a high scorer last year. Back in the side, so a good differential...
