Robin Van Persie is one of three United players forced to withdraw from the upcoming internationals due to injury. Brad Guzan and Boaz Myhill are also out for the US and Wales respectively, Wojciech Szczesny picks up an ankle knock in training for Poland, while Roberto Martinez ponders handing Gerard Deulofeu a start in the upcoming Merseyside derby:

Van Persie Withdraws from Holland Squad

The United forward has pulled out of his nation’s upcoming pair of friendlies with Japan and Colombia due to the ongoing toe and groin issues that have curtailed his recent game time.

The Scout Says: Van Persie’s owners are unlikely to be too perturbed by yesterday’s news. Moyes has started him in only three of United’s last six matches in all competitions – the Dutchman has been named in the XI for league duties but his manager has turned to Javier Hernandez in cup competitions due to Van Persie’s persistent problems. With a fortnight’s rest between the win over former club Arsenal and the upcoming trip to Cardiff, Van Persie will have plenty time to recuperate as he looks to extend a streak which has now seen him score in each of the last four Gameweeks for the champions.

Carrick Achilles Worry for Moyes

The United boss has also seen Danny Welbeck and Michael Carrick withdraw from the England squad with injuries. Welbeck remains out with the knee problem that has limited his recent game time but Carrick, according to reports in the Telegraph, could potentially be out until Christmas with an Achilles complaint. Carrick is believed to have received injections earlier in the week in order to boost his chances of facing Cardiff in 11 days’ time but has now apparently undergone a small procedure to rectify a problem which has been troubling him for weeks. The Telegraph also claim a senior United official reckons the midfielder could be out for at least a month and up to six weeks, though the club have yet to officially confirm this.

The Scout Says: Having played all but one of United’s league games so far under David Moyes, Carrick’s influence in the middle of the park has been crucial at a time where the likes of new boy Marouane Fellaini and Tom Cleverley have struggled for form. Certainly, United have no obvious like-for-like replacement for Carrick, though with injuries lessening at the back, the knock-on effect could see Moyes decide to retain Phil Jones in the central midfield role he’s taken up over the last couple of matches, allowing Jonny Evans to continue alongside Nemanja Vidic in the heart of the back-four. Frustrating for Jones, then, at a time where he has went out of his way to indicate he is keen to nail down a regular role in central defence.

Guzan Worry for Lambert

The Villa keeper was forced to withdraw from the US squad yesterday due to an unspecified problem. Guzan was expected to play at least one of the upcoming friendlies against Scotland and Australia but his national team boss Jurgen Klinsmann would only say:

“There are some injury issues that now give other players the chance to step up.”

The Scout Says: With four clean sheets in the last seven Gameweeks, Guzan has been a key figure for Paul Lambert’s side – indeed, due to save points, the Villa stopper currently sits on 51 points, the same number as Spurs’ Hugo Lloris, despite the latter keeping out his opponents seven times in 10 appearances. Coming in at 5.0, Guzan has now moved 12 points clear of any team-mate thus far and with games against all of the bottom four in the next seven, could be poised for further defensive returns. Lambert will be sweating on his availability ahead of a derby trip to West Brom on Monday November 25 and could be forced to turn to Shay Given if Guzan is unavailable. With Ciaran Clark also out of international duty and fellow-regulars Gabby Agbonlahor, Andreas Weimann, Fabian Delph and Antonio Luna all missing the previous league match, the Villa boss has plenty injury concerns right now.

Myhill Out of Wales Squad

The West Brom keeper has also made his excuses and removed himself from the Wales squad to face Finland on Friday. Reports in the local press indicate Myhill has been struggling with Achilles and thumb problems and, prior to the weekend trip to Chelsea, was unable to train until last Friday due to the problems:

“I am going to need treatment on a couple of injuries I’ve picked up in recent weeks. I’ve not trained for a while and I’m glad for the rest because it means I can do some work in the gym with the physios. So the break has come at a good time for me. I was really struggling last week and I’m grateful to the medical staff for the help they’ve given me to get on the pitch.”

The Scout Says: With the home game against Villa still 12 days away, Myhill looks likely to be fit on time for the Hawthorns derby. The stopper was rumoured to be considering his international future under Chris Coleman after being dropped by the Wales boss last time around and, with Ben Foster still injured due to a foot problem, is clearly taking no chances for the visit of his bitter rivals. It’s uncertain when Foster will return, meaning Myhill – providing he recovers – could still be in the driving seat for a run which hands the Baggies four home games and a trip to Cardiff in the next six.

Martinez Talks Up Deulofeu Chances

The Everton boss has admitted he would have no qualms starting the on-loan Barcelona winger in the upcoming Merseyside derby. Martinez cited Deulofeu’s recent substitute appearance against Tottenham as a sign that he’s ready to make the step up to the first XI:

“It has surprised me how quickly he has adapted to the British game, and to the demands of the Premier League. He is fighting hard for his place. I would have no concerns about putting him in against Liverpool, no. When you are able to play against Jan Vertonghen, and to cope with that, then it shows you he is ready for anything.”

The Scout Says: Certainly, Martinez has been careful with the youngster’s game time so far and only started him in cup matches. Deulofeu has played almost 30 minutes or more in three of the last five league games as the Toffees boss gradually introduces him to the English top-flight but with Everton drawing blanks in each of the last two Gameweeks, Martinez may well decide to freshen up his first XI. Kevin Mirallas is the only midfielder to start every match for the Merseysiders so far but his game time has been cut short in recent weeks, with Martinez hauling him off for the young Spaniard – the Belgian looks the most likely to be at risk on the right, then, though it remains to be seen whether Martinez would hand Deulofeu his first league start in what will surely be a hectic match with Liverpool.

Szczesny Ankle Worry

The Arsenal keeper is reported to be a concern ahead of Poland’s game with Slovakia. Szczesny is believed to have picked up an ankle knock and failed to finish yesterday’s training session as a precautionary measure.

The Scout Says: Having accrued 48 points in the first 11 Gameweeks, Szczesny leads the way amongst Arsene Wenger’s backline options in the FPL standings so far. After a run of defensive blanks, the Gunners seem to have rediscovered their resilience and conceded just once in the last three league matches – with three home games and a trip to Cardiff in the next four, the Pole (who is the eighth top scoring keeper) could be set for further returns if, as expected, he recovers in time for the Gameweek 12 home clash against a Southampton side that have managed four goals in five road trips so far.

Oscar Settled in the Middle

Chelsea’s Brazilian playmaker has been discussing his season so far with the club’s official website. Oscar has revealed he feels more comfortable with his new central role in “the hole” under Jose Mourinho, having previously played on the right in the previous campaign:

“Last year I spent a lot of time on the wing, but this season, although I have played out wide, I’ve mainly been used in the middle. It gives me a bit more freedom to express myself but I know how to play in all those positions and I’m very happy with how it’s going so far. I’ve always been able to apply pressure in midfield, since my days in Brazil, that’s why I came to Europe so early. That helps me a lot, especially in England, because it’s a fast league so it benefits me. Being able to do that has made it easier to adjust to the nature of the Premier League.”

The Scout Says: With nine starts in the opening 11 Gameweeks, the Brazilian has been one of the Blues’ main men under Mourinho. Oscar’s shift to the middle has seen Juan Mata drift to the periphery of the Chelsea XI and seen the youngster score four times already – equalling his tally from 2012/13. Somewhat surprisingly, Oscar has failed to step up as a creative presence, though, and has failed to provide a single assist all season despite his guaranteed game time – Mata managed 34 over the previous two years in the same berth.

Fantasy Football Scout Daily Hot Topic

Manchester United's form in the past has often picked up over Christmas and the second part of the season. Trouble is they haven't been keeping clean sheets until now and their midfield is a world of rotation.

In addition RVP has been decreed as over priced by most savvy managers.

So if indeed ManU are set to go on a run of good results, which of their ranks would you consider investing in?

Does Carrick's injury open the doors to Jones as an OOP prospect in midfield. Is Evans nailed on? Is DDG worth investing in? And will a credible midfield option ever emerge?

Finally, probably the key question regarding points and captaincies. Rooney or RVP (or indeed neither)?

Vidic, Evra, Rooney and RvP are the ones I would feel safe investing in.

RvP will overcome Rooney´s points imo, but Rooney´s price might put the best price-to-points ratio when you want players like Aguero or Suarez in your team

Evans is a steal at 5 as he seems nailed on now

Rooney is the man until Benteke picks up and/ or a premium priced midfielder shows some consistency

Problem with RVP is that more often than not, Rooney will be his assister. So, 4 millions extra for 2 points doesn't seem worth it

Well I've just brought in Rooney. Sure, if RVP can get together the kind of form he showed last year, he'll score more points but then, if I get him, I can't afford to have Suarez and Aguero with him. Taking into account price, Rooney is a very solid option.

He did it for most of last season. If he can regain that kind of prolonged form then yeah. Three games is not the same kind of form. Time will tell.

Right now, only Evra is of interest from their defence - the rest are too much of a rotation risk and offer very little from an attacking sense.

1 of Rooney/RVP could be essential from GW14 onwards imo

I honestly feel id be more comfortably captaining RvP and he will be a big factor in this game.

People say hes too expensive but value is rising.

Ive beenthinking recently could I get Vertonghen or Baines with my value rise but ill captain neither.

      Captaincy is where its at.

Luis Nani is always a good option for some wasted chances, on the same hand Ashley Young will help you dive the rankings, Chris Smailing is likely to make a mistake and throw away a clean sheat- so he could be a good bet, if you want to get Boruc's points via the bench I reccomend Lindegaard. Also if you want a player who want start any matches, yet still score more than Lee Catermole I recommend Lingard.

Midfield is a no go atm. Even with Jones OOP he isn't likely to get in the box much apart from corners. Valencia, Nani, and Januzaj are rotated for fun and Kags can't influence enough from the left wing.

Moyes has said he will be rotating his CB partnerships and until there is a settled back four (february time i'd think) I don't think i'l be going back for any of the defense, maybe Rafael if he looks strong when fit.

Rooney is in my team at the moment just for sheer consistency, the PPG between him and RvP will be too close to justify the extra money so he stays. However if either of these pick up an injury that sees them miss at least 3-4 weeks then Kags goes straight in my team, he will be moved to his preferrred CAM role and his attacking return will rocket.

I guess holding onto Rio is out of the question then? Surely when (if!) he proves his fitness he would start along side Vidic? I got him in at 5.5 and I think he has fallen to 5.2 now. Ouch.

Rooney is better value than RVP. Young doesn't play much, no more diving and fewer penalties for RVP to score. Apart from penalty, I see both take free kicks and corners, depends on the deadball on the left or right side of the pitch. They both drop deep to help passing the balls. Really can't see why their price has $3 difference up to this point, when their original value was decided before season starts which we should forget now.

Jones maybe an OOP but he is just a deeplying midfielder at best. May give you 1 or 2 goal/assist in the remaining 27 games... he is $5.8, not worth at all for me.

Evans has a different prospect. $5.0 defender from Moyes MU looks a bargain for me. I will say it's good value if you foresee him starts 75% of matches. The question is, do you think he will? If yes, it's a buy.

DDG at $5.8 is over-priced. GK is an area we should save funds from. I did this for all 7 seasons in BPL fantasy and always proved to be successful. And this year, GKs from lesser teams are more valuable due to BPS allocation, which makes GK from strong team looks a bad choice.

Januzaj is the only midfield you can consider atm, coz his price means he is benchable. For those having him is a hold, but those not yet should avoid getting him in unless Rooney/RVP injured. If such injury happened, Kags should still be avoided, coz he is still rotatable (Januzaj can play CAM, or playing Chicha up top, or playing Welbeck as the 2nd striker)

I have Januzaj, whilst mostly a bench warmer, I'm expecting him to start against weaker opposition as Moyes gradually increases his experience (maybe)

I was also looking at Jones as an OOP prospect, but I'm worried jot it game time, since he probably won't last in the midfield, and Moyes has other players to play ahead of him in CB and RB. Ralistically though, Evra is probably a good bet.

Fr me, RVP is too expensive. But then I never had him last season, so what do I know!

Who would you captain of these two?

    A) Aguero v spurs (home)
    B) Suarez v Everton (away)

Edging towards aguero but it is not easy because spurs will set up so tight.

Liverpool forums are split on the LIV starting CBs - some think the physicality of Toure is required to combat Lukaku. I'm gonna hold off 1 more week I think in case Toure starts alongside Agger (this was BR's 1st choice pairing at the start of the season after all (and they have a great clean sheet record playing together so far!)

    Morning,

Assuming that I make no changes to my team going into GW12, I will end up with something along the following lines:

    mignolet
    williams, chester, baines
    barkley, hazard, lallana, morrison
    suarez (v), aguero (c), lukaku

    jedinak, walker, fonte, LEWIS

    3.2M
    1FT

    The main concerns are:

    1. I have 5 players in the merseyside derby.
    2. If chester isn't back from injury, I will have to play walker away at city.
    3. I am probably a bit overweight in defence (£), and seriously under invested in midfield.
    4. I am not confident that my defence will weather the forthcoming fixture storm.

    I am therefore considering a -4 for:

    barkley --> sessegnon

    +

    a) walker --> pieters - (+) nailed on, fancy stoke to keep a cleanie this week (-) stoke don't have any real attacking prowess, everton+chelsea in the next 4.
    b) walker --> evans - (+) great value, away at cardiff who are gutless in attack (-) is he nailed on?
    c) walker --> ridgewell - (+) 3/4 west brom's next fixtures look ok, nailed on (-) home to villa this week.
    d) walker --> yanga-mbiwa - (+) good value, two home fixtures (-) what will happen when taylor is back?

These transfers will give me enough cash to upgrade lallana --> walcott (if he is fit)/cazorla (if he isn't) next week.

    THOUGHTS?

    Tommo

Personally I'd probably just do Barkley -> sess and address the defence next week. My midfield is pretty similar if I do my planned transfer:

      Hazard, lallana, Ramsey, ravel, arnautovic

I don't see it as underpriced since many of these players are good value for money.

Arsenal defence is under rated - I think we have the best (or 2nd best defence) in the league for 2013.

Mert offers a decent goal threat too and is a BP whore.

Not sure - didn't he do it in his sleep or something equally retarded?

I was considering Boruc -> Szcz (as I also have Clyne from 4.4m)

Mert looks the best option from the Arsenal defence imo (and perhaps Sagna once Wally is back).

Main issue for me is it would mean 3 ARS and therefore 2 transfers away from getting Wally.

That's not the point. I'm weighing up the odds of selling either Ozil or Dawson this week.

If I'm keeping Ozil then I can only afford a 4.5m def. The trade will cost me -4 and Hull has the best chance of a CS this week of the 4.5m range defenders.

And yes, I won't have a problem playing a Hull defender vs CPAL/FUL/STOKE over the Festive season if I have to.

Just thinking that RVP is getting back to an area almost worth the money.

Have been happy with Rooney up till now but to maximise points RVP and a mid priced mid might get me more than Rooney & Oz

I think you'll struggle to find a mid at that kind of price that fires... There isn't much between 6.5M and 9.5M.

A lot of people are going for Remy.
But he faces very serious charges. And there is bound to be a lot of media interest for his hearing.
Some managers (Sir Bobby, for example) would take him out of the side. But I don't think Newcastle have any replacements.

On 21st Nov (2 days before Norwich game). But that's only for the CPS to decide whether to charge him, re-bail or drop everything.

So you could just wait for the result of that, swallow the price rises and get him if they drop the case.

I'm probably avoiding for that reason but it has been pointed out that Newcastle played Andy Carroll with charges for violent offences hanging over him.

Innocent until proven guilty seems to be a key phrase.

Ahoy stat heads and Toffees in particular.

Everton's attacking stats have fallen off a cliff lately. In the last three games Lukaku has managed fewer shots on goal than Johan Friggin' Elmander, despite 100 extra minutes on the pitch and comparable fixtures.

Do I drop him for a hit or keep for (LIV, STK) and hope that Martinez can address the malaise?

(I'd get Bony, if anyone. I have a mildly worrying thing for him).

Me too. I got it out of my system by getting him in my draft league so I'll have him all season 😉
I sold Lukaku for Remy this week. Can see him getting some points in those two home games vs Liverpool and Stoke though. Keeping might not be such a bad idea

1 shot vs Palace and home to Spurs. Pretty sure he'd be lucky to have more than 1 key pass in those 2 games too. So annoying.

I got Rooney after dismissing a move to Remy/Bony as sideways (given the -4 especially)

I really fancy Bony to come out of his shell now though. I had a massive thing for him pre-season. 31 goals in 30 games last season 😯

But then, I had a massive thing for Lukaku too so what do I know? Love is fickle.

OK, all that business aside ... can I ask for your advice on my Lukaku conundrum?

I really do think Bony will kick on and I'd even consider captaining him against Fulham. And I can't explain Lukaku's sudden decline but it is very real.

Then again, I must stop the hits and I respect Martinez enough to think he can reverse the trend. Any thoughts?

I think he would get more baps in def. Less pressure on passes. Most of Rios baps were due to his high pas completions.

Or am I missing something ... where else do you see more baps potential

United may have the least SiB the last 2 weeks, but Rooney's had 6 shots, 3 in the box, Lukaku's had 1 shot, 0 in the box.

Rooney's blanked in 2 games all season. Lukaku's blanked more than that in the last 4 weeks.

Lukaku started off with a bang but compare him to Rooney for the last 6 weeks (shots in box the same, Rooney more shots and chances created)

and then compare the last 4 matches and it's not even close.

I think you can always find stats to back up your argument, as we have done. Rooney will most probably outscore Lukaku over the season, but he's considerably more expensive, plays more withdrawn and has 2 away games up next. Lukaku -> Rooney worth a hit this week? No way.

Rooney considerably more expensive, but what exactly are you going to do with the extra money? Buy Yaya Toure?

Now there's a player... 😉 (not for fpl of course)

I think it's more a matter of timing than price for me:

                        Lukaku has (LIV, STO)
                        Rooney has (car, tot)

Spurs are stingy at the back whereas Stoke often capitulate away. I actually think Lukaku will outscore Rooney over those 2 weeks.

Lukaku -> Rooney in GW14 (for free) - no brainer.

Hard to compare them when he played 316 minutes GW1-5 and 562 GW5-11?

Is this an argument for or against Rooney? It doesn't really seem like either haha.

Its an argument that while he's consistent, his ability to score big is reducing (counter to the last couple of weeks 😉 ) making his price tag that bit more expensive if you're not confident on giving him the armband

Reducing sure, but he has had more shots inside the box/minute in GW6-11 and his stats are also a shed load better than Lukaku's the last 4 weeks.

Baines at least scores his points through crosses, penalties (THAT HE IS FIRST CHOICE FOR) and FK's

Hazard's are assists from rebounds/getting fouled, penalties when Lampard's not on or absolutely idiotic goal keeping (vs Cardiff)

On WC... Moved to mostly defenders from the 'big' teams around this time last year with players like De Gea and Clichy then serving me well for the majority of the rest of the season.

Is it too early to do this now? Considering going with something like Migs/Koscielny/Evans/Terry in my backline.

Is David Luiz ever gonna be worth ditchong for a hit? Or do I just lumber along with him til Jan?

Mistakenly got him after Mourinho saying he was first choice. Any given week he could play so a hit seems silly, but I know between now and Jan he will miss at least 3-4 of the remaining 9 fixtures. Would probably bring in Evra if that makes it more appealing?
