Frisking the Fixtures – Gameweek 25 – The Weak

Having assessed those boasting prime platforms for strong returns in the coming Gameweeks, we now turn to assess those on far more shaky foundations. The in-form Black Cats and Arsene Wenger’s title chasing charges feature amongst those blessed by few favours from the fixture computer.

Sunderland

sun25

The transformation under Gus Poyet has been remarkable: unbeaten in their last four, fresh from a 3-0 triumph at St James’ Park, Fantasy managers should be carefully running the rule over their mid-price assets. The fixture list strongly suggests we should cool our boots, however, with newly acquired prize possessions – Vito Manonne and Adam Johnson are perhaps set for a barren run as Poyet’s men come back down to earth with a proverbial bump.

The Gameweek 28 blank is the first consideration – around that we have three evil away fixtures at City, Arsenal and Liverpool. It’s hard to imagine the Black Cats’ rearguard standing up to that assault, making home matches with Hull and Palace precious intervals in what is a harrowing schedule. Johnson’s form could carry him through, although he will have to add the “fixture proof” attribute to his growing reputation as a Fantasy asset if he is to live up to his recent level of investment.

Arsenal

ars25

With the Gunners now firmly under threat from City and Chelsea in the title race, Arsene Wenger’s men are on the eve of their most testing run of fixtures with Liverpool, United and Spurs on the horizon in the next six. A trip to Stoke offers little respite, making the Emirates meetings with Sunderland and an off-colour Swansea all the more vital.

Fantasy managers are perhaps likely to hold firm in the hope that Wenger’s men can weather the approaching storm but, defensively, returns look unlikely beyond the two aforementioned home encounters. In attacking terms, there is still much to be optimistic about, with the Liverpool, United and City defences all having apparent cracks to expose.

Fulham

ful25

It seems highly unlikely that Fantasy managers would dare knock on the door at Craven Cottage, even to consider the newly acquired talents of Kostas Mitroglou. There’s little question that the form of Rene Meulensteen’s side is faltering badly, just in time to coincide with a run of opponents that will likely leave them rooted to the bottom of the table come mid-March. United, Liverpool and Chelsea loom in the next three, surely consigning Fulham to scrap for points in the away trips to West Brom and Cardiff.

Also be wary of…

Man United
The blank in Gameweek 28 already prompts the need for caution when considering United’s assets and form would suggest that they are unlikely to make light of a testing run of matches heading into March. Three away trips follow the Old Trafford encounter with Fulham, with Arsenal, Palace and West Brom amongst the most stubborn home defences in the league.

Crystal Palace
While Tony Pulis’ rearguard resources have served us well in recent weeks, they look set to be stretched by forthcoming encounters with Everton and United, while trips to Swansea and Sunderland, plus a Selhurst Park meeting with in-form Southampton, also suggest that clean sheets will be hard to come by.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      If they beat Chelsea in FA Cup then it's a blank.
      Same for other FA Cup games.

      If they win their FA cup game against Chelsea, they're guaranteed to have a blank in 29.

      City vs Chelsea at FA Cup.
      Whoever wins has blank GW29.

      My Money is on Chelsea though. If they can do it once,can do it twice easily!

      Worth also noting that it's quite likely a draw will give them both a blank in GW29. It's not definite but a replay date before the R6 weekend is not looking certain.

      ML actually.. 25 close friends in it, with money on the line. Soo much prestige in this league (4th year).
      I guess some of the transfers I´ve made this year is based on how my opponents play in the ML, but mostly I just go wth the players I think will score most 😀

    G'mornin, need your advice on this one, or I want sleep tonight 😉

    A) Jrod and Eriksen -> RvP(C) + Puncheon/Adam at a -4pt hit
    B) Chambers -> Cahill
    C) save FT

    Have Sturridge and Suarez.

    Everyone on this site is a sheep they follow the herd mentality. Yaya Toure he is doing well lets get him in good fixtures. NO wrong
    Andy Carrol is back Kevin Nolan is 2.7k cheaper and benefits of Carrol's headers get him in
    result= 13 point difference
    Mata is going to united, oh he has a track record of scoring well, get him in immediately without assessing the situation. NO united are in terrible form and mata is not playing as advanced due to 2 strikers rather than 1 at chelsea.
    Mirallas- Playing as a lone striker against a team in poor form- doesn't score from open play, but still scores a goal.
    result= 2k cheaper 3 more points.
    RVP= 14k he is back- last year scored lots of goals. Oh now he is not injured he will immediately be the best player.
    Borini- sunderland in great form- 7k cheaper, he has been scoring goals in the league cup and is on pens. Sunderland score 3 against a tougher opposition than united who score 1.
    Result 6 point difference.

    Use your brain if you want to climb the rankings- look for differentials, but differentials that have a track record of scoring, that have potential, signs/shots on goal are pointing to an upturn in points.

    Here are 3 I will point out
    Charlie Adam- Excellent home fixtures- focal point of side in terms of set pieces and play, stoke are scoring lots of goals at home.
    Pablo Zabaleta- will not be rotated, despite the n/a in gameweek 28, city's fixtures for defensive prospects are excellent. Also Silva pushes across that side and navas does not push extremely high- so he will push forward and create attacking chances.
    Swansea Defence- The New coach effect anyone? Gary Monk a defender? Swansea grinding out results? Williams and Chico goal threat along with bonus points- yes please
    West Ham defence- it's cheap reid is back they will look to clean sheats again- if you want someone nailed on- guy demel, for a risk mccartney.

    I would like to share opininions on DEF rotation. I have been playing the game for several years now, and I have now come to the conclusion that DEF rotation mainly backfires.

    I am reading a lot here about transfering DEF but I think that the only viable strategy with backs is an at least 10 GW prospect strategy.

    Managing your backs is not about taking a punt, it is just about budget opportunities. Taking a punt on a def is putting yourself under too much variance dependance. I think that the ideal defense is made of 3 nailed central back who will guarantee you 100% game time. Their profile should be: tenancy to CS and rake Bonus points. Typical example: Terry, Merts, Shawcross.

    Then, your 2 remaining Def, should only be budget opportunities. Players that will join a stating XI thanks to some injuries or some great performances. These should only be picked with the idea of generating budget for FW or MID.

    Really, I don't believe in punt or rushes with DEF. Too much variance. Build your defense on a 15-20 GW prospect with a strong 3. This is all about statistics in the end. You will lose team value and points with too much DEF turnover

      with you mostly there. But normally you can find pretty reliable budget defenders, like ward, demel vlaar, that can be relied upon bar injuries. Also I feel spending for say Terry over Cahill should be wieghed up against even more prolific - and more expensive - midfield and forward options
