This Much We Know – Gameweek 28

As always, our Monday afternoon regular casts an eye over the weekend’s matches as Fantasy managers begin to plan in preparation for the decimated Gameweek 29 schedule:

Adebayor is a frustrating figure…
This is nothing new. We know this. We’ve known it since he appeared back on our player lists. In a Gameweek in which many granted him the armband after his midweek Europa League double, the Tottenham forward treated us and Tim Sherwood to a laboured display which garnered just an assist as the north London outfit huffed a puffed against Cardiff. Let’s be honest, as soon as Adebayor emerged as a Fantasy prospect, we were waiting for him to let us down – is it too early to get the jitters or is Sunday’s complacent display a sign of things to come?

Dawson isn’t bowing out easily…
The Spurs club skipper was a dominant figure in the home win over Cardiff and was singled out for post-match praise by his manager. While Younes Kaboul is injured and could well oust him to the bench when fit – as we saw as recently as Gameweek 26 – Dawson’s display will not have made it easy for Tim Sherwood. Much as we’d like Kaboul as a prospect for 4.6, it may not be an option just yet.

Martinez feels he can rest Mirallas…
The Belgian was omitted from the Palace teamsheet for the postponed Gameweek 26 clash as Roberto Martinez looked to give him a breather. Having scored in each of his last two home stats, Mirallas was heavily-backed this weekend but found himself warming the bench as Everton squeezed past West Ham. With Gerard Deulofeu and Aidan McGeady both pushing for game time, the recent turn of events is a real concern – all the more frustrating given Everton’s excellent forthcoming ruin of fixtures. Romelu Lukaku’s winner against Big Sam’s men suggests he may be the Merseysiders’ key attacking option for the run-in now.

The midfield malfunctions just go on…
Mirallas rested, Robert Snodgrass ineffective and replaced at half-time with an injury, Adam Lallana impressive without quite producing the points in Southampton’s home loss to Liverpool. How fitting, then, that both Eden Hazard and Yaya Toure reminded us of their brilliance and ability to deliver yet again this weekend. Fantasy managers are screaming out for some differentials to show some consistency and rival that duo’s appeal but given their form, it’ll be a bold move to go without either for the run-in. Even those who have pointedly rejected Toure up until now will likely succumb to his potential, bearing in mind that City will have three doubles in the last nine Gameweeks.

Suarez and Sturridge – it gets tricky from here on in…
In recent weeks, owning both has paid off in style – particularly if you made the switch back to Suarez this weekend. Sturridge arrived at Southampton on Saturday evening as the forward in form, though, and was understandably backed by many but only returned a two-point haul. Only once in the last five starts have Suarez (4,5,2,5,15) and Sturridge (9,6,15,16,2) registered similar scores, highlighting how difficult they are making the armband decision. Both may be in outstanding form but the margins of error are substantial – calling the captaincy wrong in each of the last five would have earned you 36 points, whereas the right decision would have brought home 122 points. From here on in, the armband call looks a difficult one, fraught with potential frustration.

Sterling could be sacrificed as we reach the business end…
A run of 15 successive league starts came to an end last weekend as the youngster dropped to the bench. Brendan Rodgers drafted Joe Allen into the centre and rolled out a midfield diamond in his successful attempt to contain Southampton at St Mary’s – Sterling’s impact as a second half sub still saw him find the net but given the emphatic display against the Saints, the winger’s owners may well be worried.

Benteke might just be the answer…
The Belgian is threatening to embark on a run similar to last season, where he notched 14 times in the last 18 Gameweeks. Benteke put on a muscular display to skittle the Norwich back four on Sunday, taking his tally to five goals and a pair of assists in his last eight appearances and demonstrating he’s got the weaponry to banish any talk of relegation at Villa. Fantasy managers who dare to take a punt with one of their precious squad slots up front could well be rewarded by the in-form Belgian.

Arsenal are giving us the jitters…
There are real concerns about the Gunners’ prospects at both ends of the pitch and we’re already seeing significant sales of their main Fantasy assets since the weekend loss at Stoke. One win and a single clean sheet in the last four highlights Arsenal’s current form as his side start to stumble – with a blank Gameweek 29, followed by Spurs, Chelsea, City and Everton, the exodus is understandable.

Baines is back in the reckoning…
The Toffees left-back delivered an assist, maximum bonus and clean sheet return against West Ham on Saturday and was joint-top for creativity over the Gameweek, supplying as many chances as Eden Hazard. Since returning from a toe injury in Gameweek 19, Baines has racked up three sets of double figures, with a goal, two assists and nine bonus points over that period – Seamus Coleman has a goal and two bonus points by comparison. With the Merseysiders set for some superb fixtures after this weekend’s blank, those currently without an Everton defender may well be swayed by Baines’ form.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Not the most appealing of choices but which is better for 1/2 weeks?

    A) Brunt (upcoming double, possibility to keep as 5th mid and ditch Noone)
    C) Ramires (will go for Nolan/AJ for gw31)

    Secret option B) Keep Mirallas

I know Mirallas has good fixtures, but ditching enables me to get Nolan/AJ instead

I think Mirallas would be odds-on for a DGW in GW31, but it seems less and less likely by the day. If nothing is announced this GW, maybe we should just ditch him.

Might as well go A) so you already have a DGWer. Though I think Shhh Mirallas was probably just rested and they will have two DGWs I think. I have the same Mirallas problem. Have 8 or 9 this week, if they're not rotated and really think I'm better thinking about the doubles ahead.
I wish Utd were a better prospect. I see no joy for them in their DGW. Maybe Rooney?

Rooney, RVP, Mata the only options there imo

As for Mirallas, I agree, he wasn't dropped, just rested, but I think with all the wingers fit, he will be rotated a fair bit. Getting subbed off at around 60/70 min mark will become common and could easily not start one of the games in either of the doubles.

All in all, as its for free, I think ditching is best, then getting Nolan/AJ instead

Is this any good for GW31? 10 double gameweek players (but with Mannone on the bench):

    Adrian
    Zab, Vidic, Distin
    Yaya, Mata, Nolan, Hazard
    Aguero, Suarez, Studge

    Mannone, Noone, Parr, Chambers

I think there's very little chance of a Everton and Arsenal DGW31 now. Based on nothing but gut feeling.

Best to save the WC for a bigger DGW later?

I think if you can free up the cash then I'd definitely do Snod -> Yaya. I, unfortunately can't seem to free up enough cash to do that move. RVP -> Aguero is defo sideways but nothing you can do if you can't afford RVP, Aguero & Sturridge - I certainly can't afford it. My current plan is:

      GW29: Kosh -> Azpil
      GW30: RVP -> Aguero
      GW31: Adebayor -> Sturridge and then one of Mirallas -> Yaya/Silva or Snod -> £8.0m (Nolan?) for a -4.

Looking to figure out a path to getting Aguero in after the blank, current team:

    Boruc 3.9
    Fabio Cahill Azi Koc Ward
    Hazard Toure Mirallas Nolan Sterling
    Ade Studge Suarez

    2.1 in the bank. Thinking:

    A. Mirallas -> Adam this week, then Ade -> Aguero next week
    B. Koc -> 4.1 or less def, then Ade -> Aquero next week
    C. ?

Thinking A at the moment, despite good fixtures for Everton. Can then go Koc -> City defender the following week to ensure full city quota for the double & run in.

    Thoughts...?

Has to be Evra. Dont see much clean sheet potential for the City and Liverpool games, so you need his extra assist/goal potential to make it worth bringing a Utd defender in imo.

Baines is a much better pick than Distin if you can the price difference.

Coleman has the potential to outscore Baines but that's with a bit of a risk as he might not hit the heights of earlier this season.

You hit the nail on the head right there! Would you rather 2 mil on the occasional freekick scored or on upgrading a silva to a yaya and mutch/noone to a sterling. The latter for me.

    Szszesny Davis
    Coleman Shaw Koscielny Ward Bruce
    Yaya Hazard Lallana Pozuelo Ince
    Adebayor Suarez Sturridge

2 free transfers and 2.8 in the bank

This week Koscielny > Azpi, that will leave me 7 playing this week, next week Szszesny and Adebayor to Mannone and Aguero then the week after Ince to Sterling. That will leave me with seven also playing the doubles.

No way would I bench Hazard. Massive risk. Double gameweeks are nice but they don't suddenly turn players from mediocre teams into amazing players.

Well I'm planning on having a midfield of Yaya Nolan Hazard AJ Livermore at the moment..

Hazard vs Arsenal could easily be 2 points..

Do you have to take hits to get that midfield? before DGW or after it to normalize your team for other fixtures? That counts too. I would bench Hazard if I had a superb midfield 4 for DGW, but I won't have that because -4 hit brings the starting points to -2 relative to playing Haz, another -4 makes it -6 relative to just playing Haz.

I would have to take hits but that's to get in Aguero/Yaya and the other two transfers I have to make in the next two weeks will be to make funds available for those two City boys. Necessary -8 points.

He has to for his price and fixtures. If I transfer him to someone more expensive, I have to compromise something else. Would I be happier lining up Sissoko and Sterling for DGW31 than I am with Lallana and Hazard. Yes, maybe a little. Would I be happier with Lallana (or player of equivalent price) and Noone for the rest of the season than with Sissoko and Sterling. Most likely a lot. It is all about that: if I have to take hits to get back to higher priced midfielders, then it is not worth it. With Noone, I can afford pretty nice midfield 4 for the season while keeping 3 top defenders and two decent ones, 2 playing and good GK's, and SAS with Aguero. Without Noone, something else must go too.

not zero - he's got 2goals and 3 assitsst, and he can replace your 5th mid for rest of season. Depends whether you're also fielding AJ I guess

If I'd find a one that I would be happy to keep for a longer run, then yes. But it would also mean to let go Lallana, who also doesn't have a DGW. Currently I only have 2 midfielders with DGW coming and the rest I don't like to sell, so to me this doesn't actually pose much the question.

6 is good enough. I think this flat track bully thing is exaggerated on Hazard. His performances are great against big teams too, he creates immensely a lot every time, it's just that Chelsea lacks strikers so there are not goals coming all that easily. Would they sign a decent striker, we could forget about the flat track bully.

Hazard at home to Arsenal in GW31, I might risk benching him if I think it's worth the hits to fill up with 11 DGWers. If I only have 10 for 31 Hazard will make up the 11.

If you take hit just to have DGW midfielder, remember that it only pays is the player scores more than 4 more than Hazard, and if you take two hits (for example, if you have to sell afterwards), then it must be 8 more than with Hazard.

If end up having something like Mirallas, Sissoko (if DGW), Silva and Gerrard, which I probably won't, then I would bench Hazard. Purely because it makes no sense to get a DGW'r if you won't play him.

He'll be a starter for me. The rest of my front 6 will be dgwer's. No way would I drop him, he's capable of outscoring any dgwer.

A 1-0 Mou´s ideal result could turn out to be from an Hazard goal, that plus the 3 bonus gives him a tally of 11 points, that will be much more than some DGWers will do.

Could easily be from someone else though, Ivan, Terry, Eto'o/Torres/Schurrle etc and then Hazard will only get a measly 3 points vs Livermore's 9-10 from 180 minutes and a goal 😉

But the n you are stuck with owning Livermore or have to take a hit to get rid of him. Bang, -4, only 5-6 left. Well, still positive, unless you took a hit to get that midfield, in which case there's only 1-2 points left of that. And then, you would have been better off with just 2 points from Haz.

Okay. He is acceptable. But Noone is still 0.4 cheaper and has slightly better fixtures. Livermore is more sure starter though, so you may be onto something here.

I would probably not bring in Livermore for GW31, but since both him and Hazard are already in my team, and the rest of my midfield will be Yaya, Sterling and Mata, I think Livermore just ever so slightly edges it for me.

Cue Livermore injury after 11 mins of the first match and a Hazard hatty against Arsenal...

Think I might go for Livermore. Hazard has a PPG of 6.3 against Livermore's 2 x 4.7 = 9.4, plus Hull's fixtures are arguably better than Chelsea's that GW.
