Official FIFA World Cup Game – Budget Midfielders

Having already analysed the budget goalkeepers and defenders in the Official FIFA World Cup game, I will now look at bargain midfielders who provide great points scoring potential with a friendly price tag. The midfielders being analysed are available for less than 5M and are certain starters in their teams.

Fernando Gago

Available for only 4.5M, Argentina’s Gago is the cheapest way into their midfield. Despite not being an attacking threat, Gago has already picked up 27 points over just four  matches, one of which he didn’t start. Although Gago may not have a goal threat, he will certainly garner plenty of recovered ball points. He is a great back-up option should one of your main midfielders playing in the earlier games fails to acquire points.

Georginio Wijnaldum

Given the fact that Nigel De Jong sustained an injury in the Netherlands previous match against Mexico, Wijnaldum is expected to start in the heart of the Netherlands midfield alongside the versatile Daley Blind. Wijnaldum has an extremely friendly price of just 3.5M and is a must have back-up option in any fantasy team. The PSV captain is also something of a goal-threat and he loves arriving late into the box. Wijnaldum is a must have given his price and scoring potential.

Celso Borges, Yeltsin Tejeda and Christian Bolanos

The Costa Rican trio have impressed many people during this tournament and are nailed on to start the quarter final tie with the Netherlands. Borgesthe most expensive of the trio at 4.5M, has caught the eye of numerous Premier League clubs after his performances at the tournament. Borges has a deadly right foot and he takes all of Costa Rica’s penalites and free-kicks. Despite the extra price in comparison to Tejeda and Bolanos, Borges has a much higher goal-scoring potential. Tejeda, is a combative ball winner, whilst Bolanos is a wide man who loves whipping balls into the box. Both are essential in the Costa Rican team so expect to see them pick up points if Los Ticos are to progress to the semi-finals. Both are available at 3.5M and look like great value for money.

    Mascherano and Gago the same, but the first has more points due to more minutes played?

    @RonH

    I would disagree with you about Remy. While "World Class" is a stretch I think he is in the top 5 strikers in the premier league
