Promoted Team’s Defenders – Estimated BPS

The newly promoted teams to the Premier League should offer us some decent cheap defenders, which will be needed to free up funds for other areas of our team. To help decide between these budget assets I’ve taken a look at how they would have performed if the Fantasy Premier League’s Bonus Points System (BPS) had been applied to the Championship last season.

Method

What I’ve worked out isn’t what BPS they would have got, but an idea as to which one could pick up the most bonus points. I couldn’t find all the data for the players, which makes up the bonus point system, so I could only base it on; appearances, goals, assists, clean sheets, crosses, clearances, blocks, interceptions, tackles, key passes, yellow and red cards, dispossessed, fouls and own goals. Also, some parts of my calculations are slightly different to the FPL’s method. For example, one of the defenders made three crosses all season. In FPL last season you got one point for making three crosses in a match and obviously the defender didn’t make these three crosses in a single match, but I wanted to include this part into it as it makes an impact to certain players like Kieran Trippier and Danny Simpson. So, while the data below isn’t 100 per cent accurate I feel it gives a fair idea for each player. I’ve also only included players who played for at least half the Championship season.
