The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

Next up is Demi who is looking for feedback on this team:

De Gea/Hamer

Mariappa, Wisdom, Davies, Debuchy, Terry

Mata, Sigurdsson, Eriksen, Hazard, Albrighton

Diego Costa, Rooney, Diouf

Demi says he is pretty set on having David De Gea and a non-playing keeper, and it’s one of the few positions that have remained constant in all his drafts. Juan Mata, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Christian Eriksen and Eden Hazard have all featured strongly in most of his thoughts too, but, apparently, he could be persuaded to start the season with Cesc Fabregas and use the extra cash to upgrade his defence. Speaking of which, John Terry is the one certainty in Demi’s rearguard: the others are more doubtful. Demi is currently undecided as to whether to keep an Arsenal defender in his side, with Debuchy his current preferred selection.

Up front, Wayne Rooney is locked in, but Demi has been really struggling for inspiration on the other two forward spots. Diego Costa seems as good as any option for the first three or four games; he’s not keen on Olivier Giroud or Edin Dzeko with their respective fixtures. Would he be better off downgrading Costa and instead focusing on solidifying his defence?

Feel free to get stuck in with your feedback. We look forward to scanning your RMTs throughout the day on this article.

Hi, looks good...although keep an eye on Cameron and Austin's game time. They could face rotation.

hmmm, i'd downgrade Eriksen for a better third striker.

Plenty of decent mids at 6 to 6.5m.

Not sure how much game time Cameron is getting, also unsure of how Fabregas will be used by Chels. Davies is a nice pick IMO, will play most games for Spurs.

I'd be grateful if you could RMT:

    Begovic

    Shaw Debuchy Ward Davies
    Mata Hazard Eriksen Sanchez
    Dzeko Rooney

Subs: Myhill, Bruce, Albrighton, Vaz Te

Admittedly my bench is very weak.

Shaw and young are going to play in the same position. Young would give a higher chance of goals and assists and may start due to his form during pre season. Really balanced i think. But yeah. Subs could be stronger

I'd be wary of Shaw, Evans might be safer and would save 0.5m. Zamora would be a better option than Vaz Te.

    Thoughts on these?

    Krul/Foster
    Cameron/Chester/Ferdinand/Clyne/Taylor

    FFS legends.

I'm on version 3 of my team:

    Begovic (Krul)

Jones Huth Ferdinand (van Aanholt, Bartley)

    Sigurdsson, Ramsey, Mata, Fabragas (Wanyama)

    Dzeko Rooney (c) Costa

Planning on rotating Bego and Krul. I may replace Bego with Speroni after gw1. In the back, Stoke/Sunderland and QPR/Swansea rotate well. In the midfield, I plan on playing the four big hitters week in week out with Wanyama warming the bench. Upfront, Rooney and Costa are having good preseasons. I'm not 100% about Dzeko at this stage. The alternative is Giroud, and I'm even less convinced by his pre season form. Would like to see Colback, Cabella, Riviere, Besic and Lukaku in my team, but can't have everything...

Grateful if you could RMT and provide any suggestions to strengthen what I currently have.

If your plan is to get speroni in gw2 why not just get him in to start and save the transfer for something that could net your more points? You should be planning to not swap your keepers unless absolutely necessary (injury, out of favor etc)

Dzeko -> Bony? Barring gw1 SWA have a decent run of fixtures and Bony is central to their attack.

The rest looks good to me 🙂

the speroni/krul mix doesn't work so well when i look into it. newcastle play palace as early as gw3 and their gw1 fixtures are tough (palace away to arsenal and newcastle home to city).

@Demi: I like it! Pretty much my team now except I've used the money you spent on Terry on getting Lukaku as third striker.

I think Cahill is the only guarantee in the Chelsea defense at the moment, personally I'd go either for him or go cheaper and use the money elsewhere. Can't really base that feeling on much though, just think Cahill has been excellent and Mourinho is going on about how JT still has to keep up his level of performance and whatnot. Luis in puts a little uncertainty over everybody's playing time IMO.

Yep, I think I'll go for him as well. Apart from Rooney, Costa and Dzeko there really isn't a lot of choice among strikers. Lukaku will do for now until someone better for that money emerges. Shame Giroud isn't match fit yet...he'd ordinarily be a good option.

What sort of advice is that?

Having a good player on the pitch v in an easy fixture who doesn't score while having another good player on the bench with a tough fixture that pulls in a haul is much better than having a player in a tough fixture not scoring while having a runt on the bench do nothing.

You might have the odd day where your bench player does better than your starter but the other way round you will have many more days where your one good player does nothing and at least with a strong bench option you might also have a chance of the points coming off the bench in unforseen circumstances.

It's perfectly sound advice. The point is that Siggy is a player that can be played continuously, against any team. Would you advocate the rotating of Christian Eriksen? Siggy is pretty much a 7-8m mid with a 6m price tag. It makes no sense to rotate him, using up your budget unnecessarily on an expensive bench player, when he is capable of being played week in week out. Siggy + bench fodder + 1.5M is far better than Siggy + Henderson.

You're advice was "I'm not a fan of rotating mids as you will end up with painful benched points situations" and I think that is ridiculous advice.

Yes I would rotate eriksen and did last year.

Not having a good player on the bench due to fear of benched points is just poor play imo, you pick the player with the best odds of getting you pints whether he is 4m or 6.5m same goes for attack and def as well as midfield.

You are obviously incapable of reading a sentence properly, as I said "I'm not a fan of THE rotating mids" i.e. the two rotating mids that he was proposing. I was not saying that I'm against the idea of rotating mids completely. I was saying that I think Siggy is being capable of being played week in week out. This is an RMT thread, it is for people to give their opinions on people's teams. In MY opinion, I think he would benefit from using the 1.5M elsewhere and using Siggy as a non-rotating mid, because I rate Siggy highly. You might not agree with that. But get off your high horse and stop criticising my advice just because it isn't to your taste.

I did misread it tbf and was not getting at your assertion re siggy or anything to do with this guys rotating mids.

A lot of people on here dismiss having any quality on the bench because of the pain of having benched points. This is where I thought your advice was coming from. As per my example above having a valid rotating pair is great but it is all about the right players.

Apologies for any offence but I was just trying to help

Zabaleta might not start as just back from post-World Cup break, also competition from Sagna for his spot. Shaw is also uncertain and LVG doesn't see impressed with him. I like the front 8, Young is a ballsy pick who I also have.

I like the look of Young. Loved him when he was at the Villa. He has the quality, he just needs to prove it in competitive matches now.

      yes, yes you should

i question your whole defence in fact, and your keepers, and young and lamela, and having too much in midfield if you are benching sig, and bojan

With keepers I've gone for shot stoppers. Clean sheets are hard to predict but Guzan and Foster rotate home/away and will both face a large amount of shots. Siggy is benched for GW1 (Man U away).

If you were to make one or two transfers, what would they be?

Do you need Sanchez AND Ramsey? Maybe one could be transferred for a City midfielder (e.g. Nasri/Silva)?

That's true. You could argue the same over Mata and Rooney. I guess it's about partnerships and Ramsey and Sanchez could certainly both do well. Especially if Sanchez is deployed as a striker.

Not a bad team! I have gone with Sanchez and dropped Ramsey. whilst Yaya is good I'm not sure hes worth the price. I choose Mata with the good united fixtures to team up with Rooney. I will swap Rooney and Mata later for Liverpool when Pool's fixtures improve. I think Colo is a good choice and I went for Siggy rather than Lamela. I have toyed with the idea of downgraded Haz for Fab to find a further $1m. - that's a work in progress

      Krul (Elliot)

You won't get much luck there. Comments with criticisms and no suggestions. Not really useful IMO.

I would go with the second one. I like Hazard and I think Shaw is a good shout too. Though with Costa up front, it would make sense to put some City in the midfield. Could try Nasri/Silva instead of Yaya to allow you to punt on Shaw too?

Much appreciated. I think I'm leaning towards B too. Although I didn't have Yaya in my team for the first half of last season which really hurt me.

This is how I'm thinking at the moment:

            Krul - (Foster)
            Luis - Shaw - Davies - Cameron - (Bruce)
            Sanchez - Mata - Hazard - Sigurdsson - (Albrighton)
            Rooney - Costa - (Zamora)

Pretty similar to a lot of teams being floated around here but hopefully with a good balance between defence, midfield, and attack...

I see your point on Yaya, and I think I'll wait until their tricky first few fixtures have panned out before making a decision on him.

As for Shaw, I think that although he's the most expensive defender at the club, he's also the only certain starter. Plus with MU likely to play 3 at the back he'll be in a more advanced role so a good bet for assists every now and then.

Forget GK transfers. You'll end up with no GK if Krul misses out.
The only way it works is if they outscore by 5 or more.
