Abel Hernandez and Mo Diame net on their Hull debut in a pulsating 2-2 home draw with West Ham. Enner Valencia strikes on his first start for the Hammers, while James Chester remains on the bench after Steve Bruce shifts to a four-man defence.

Tigers New Boys in the Goals
Steve Bruce handed deadline-day buys Mo Diame and Abel Hernandez their debuts for last night’s encounter and was rewarded after the new boys bagged a goal apiece. Diame’s introduction saw Jake Livermore shift to the right flank as the Tigers boss opted for a 4-4-2, while Hernandez joined Nikica Jelavic up front, with Tom Ince – who had previously been fielded alongside the Croatian, dropping out of the matchday squad altogether. Hernandez’ opener certainly suggests he could prove to be an inspired signing by Bruce but with City, Arsenal and Liverpool in the next five, few will be looking to invest in Hull right now.

Chester Benched as Bruce Shifts Formation
After starting the first three matches with a 3-5-2 system, Bruce’s decision to opt for a four-man defence left James Chester’s Fantasy owners with a dilemma. Granted, the Hull boss switched tactics on a number of occasions last season but if he continues with a back-four, the 5%-owned Chester may struggle to climb ahead of Curtis Davies and Michael Dawson in the pecking order. Going on Bruce’s team sheets so far, then, left-back Andrew Robertson, at 4.5, seems the safest budget route into the Hull defence.

Valencia Helps Hammers to a Point
After playing just 22 minutes in the opening three Gameweeks, the Ecuadorian netted a superb long-range effort on his first start of the season. Sam Allardyce fielded all three of his new forwards together for the first time and altered his tactical approach, as the visitors lined up in a 4-3-1-2 formation with Mauro Zarate tucking in behind Valencia and Diafra Sakho. While their two-goal haul will please the Hammers boss, his side have now failed to keep a clean sheet as he goes on the attack – with Liverpool and United next, defensive returns look hard to come by.

Yeah, many think Everton/Baines won't reach the high's of the last 4 seasons.

                        Im hoping they do.

is he Not if he gets 160-170 pts though.

He is 0.5m cheaper than Mirallas(who I won't think will score that) and only 0.4m more expensive than Siggurdson.

                        Interesting.

But you'd have to make downgrades elsewhere. What would you get if you had a 4.5 midfielder to go with Baines? Surely this type of question must be asked ..... a useful 4.5 defender (Shackell??/Mariappa??/Morgan??) along with someone like Siggy/Chadli/Dyer would be better (and cheaper) overall, n'est-ce pas?

The GLITCH in the FPL Game.

Many of you out there probably play for monthly prizes in your mini leagues.

As some of you may not have noticed after month one the game doesn't take transfer hits into consideration in points scored in that month.

In theory you could make 5 transfers each week take a -16 hit but still win the monthly prize ahead of a person by a single point who has took no transfer hits yet you yourself should be an extra 64 points behind.

This can be seen in my mini league in the monthly standings for September.

    http://fantasy.premierleague.com/my-leagues/9815/standings/?phase=3

The man in 2nd place on 84 points for the month took a minus 16 in the game week but did not affect his monthly score.

not a glitch, this happens during the first week of every month, if they take a hit any other time during the month, you will see the deduction.

    I'm in dire straits defensively:

    Bego Krul

Jones (Crocked) Debuchy (Crocked) Chester (Dropped) Terry (-1 this GW) PvA (0 this GW)

1FT with 0.2 in the bank

Debuchy is injured long term and relatively expensive so he has to be the FT. Who to? Clyne? Hutton? N. Taylor?

I don't really want to take a -4 point hit for another defender given how badly mine have been scoring but that would leave me only 3 playing Defs. Is that too risky?

    1. Squeakybumtime
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member

Debuchy to Clyne/Bertrand is one simple one anyway.
Jones could be out for a month, so he prob needs to go, if you want to wait a week to avoid a hit just do that.
Terry's score this week is irrelevant, the fact that they aren't keeping clean sheets is. I'm shipping Cahill, but it's for free. You can play Terry this week as he's nailed on, but it's probably the toughest fixture of the season on paper, City away (they kept a CS there last season though).
PvA is fine, good attacking defender in a team that will keep a few clean sheets. 4.5m. No point shifting.
Chester is tricky, surprised Bruce went to 4-4-2, he may (or may not) switch back to 3-5-2 occasionally, where CHester will be back in. I'd hold for a while anyway.

I'm trying to recover from the Sterling (C) crisis. 1FT. Should I make a move, or stay low?

    Krul - Elliott
    Ivanovic - Clyne- Wilson - N. Taylor - Hutton
    Fabregas - Sterling - Ramsey - Siggy - Boyd
    Costa - Falcao - Welbeck

    0.6 ITB.

I think save the transfer but captain Costa this week. I got caught out with Sterling (C) also. I think Costa is the new Suarez - I won't take the chance of (C) anyone else now. But do remember we are now entering the Champs League games.

    Hazard -> Fab for -4 ?

Hazard will come good and will keep up with Fab ( or even outscore him ) IMO but losing TV is the biggest worry. They both could be worth 9.8 soon...

So for -4 I'm getting 0.6 and maybe another 0.4 if they end up both at 9.8.

    Any thoughts ?

    Season Keepers

At the start of the season, I (like many) thought that Ramsey and Hazard looked like the main season keepers. Ramsey has not done anything to contradict this yet. Hazard has been unlucky not to score more but the jury is out on that.

Do you still see these two as "season keepers"?

Do you think any other season keepers have emerged?

If ivanovic remains this attacking I'll have him all season. Same with chadli if he keeps starting. Aguero, costa and ramsey will stay for the majority, injury dependent.

My patience is wearing thin on Hazard, he's got a couple more chances then he's gone if he doesn't perform.

      1. MJ6987
        • 15 Years

On Hazard, assuming he's on them, he should get 5-8 goals from pens alone. Fabregas will struggle to match that even without allowing for any Hazard goals from free play.

        1. CABAYE4
          • 13 Years

I can't see Fabregas keeping this up, I've no doubt Hazard will outscore him over the season by a considerable margin.

I'd only be swapping for Sanchez, eyeing him up for GW8 onwards unless Hazard starts bringing home the goods.

Well im not sosure about that. I have watched every game Fabregas has played the last 4-5 years (barca fan) and i'm confident he will score atleast 5-8 goals during this season as well as tons of assists. He wont be captain material, but regularly gather points round after round.

I have very little confidence that this will be the case. He will be sold en masse at some stage - because he always is. He'll have his periods of being brought in too, so he's not a bad pick - but volatile.

    8. Ludo

I don't think it's a very helpful phrase, really... Forget the season - Ramsey was a 'season keeper' last year, then he got injured.

Focusing on the forseeable future, they're both very good options. Ramsey gets in good positions, and has kept up his quality in the final third. I can't see myself transferring him out anytime soon, but then there's always the slim chance that he really loses form, or I might want three Arsenal players I see as better options... Chambers/Sanchez or Walcott/Welbeck, perhaps. I'm not convinced there's a better midfield option than him, though.

Hazard is obviously brilliant, but I'd be worried as an owner. Chelsea are scoring lots of goals, and while he's making some great runs and displaying his talent, he seems peripheral to the way that the team is actually getting the ball to reach the net. He'll improve his returns for sure, but I don't know if he'll be consistent enough to justify his price tag.

Yeah, I always find these questions difficult to understand as we are assuming the players stay fit, keep their form and don't get rotated. That's a lot to ask.

And even then it's a nightmare - just look at the Costa "injury" in week 3!

    11. Kuqi Monster
      • 15 Years

I think in past seasons players became a "season keeper" because due to price changes you would have to ride out a run of bad fixtures as you wouldn't be able to afford to bring them back in after getting rid.

Very different this year - if you wanted to bring in a player instead of ramsey for a run of fixtures it's easy to do as would only cost you 0.1m to bring him back in.

Hazard isnt even ownable, nevermind a season keeper.

Ramsey seems off form but still producing the goods, I guess that's as good as you can get for a season keeper.

I think the new pricing system makes this kind of reasoning archaic though.
Only Costa is a keeper atm. Right now I could easily swap out Ramsery for a few weeks and get him back later 🙂

So what are people who still have Mata doing with him, looks like just a matter of time before he loses his place? Anyone else thinking of getting rid this week despite the goal?

Does it really look like a matter of time before he loses his place? If they keep with that system, Mata is the only specialist in that position really.

At 8.8 he looks great value if he keeps his place. I'd love to swap hazard for him & have 1.2m to work with... But if he's dropped for falco then I'm screwed. So might just have to go for ACM instead, he's bloody expensive though. Rafael looks a steal at 5.3 by the way

I think we need to wait till Falcao gets his first start and who drops out.

last game was a big indication IMO

If we assume Rooney plays every game (fair assumption imo), then it's hard to see Falcao and RVP only playing half the games each.

Dont you remember his quote from the pre season how he has 4 nr 10s, Rooney Mata, Januzaj and there was 1 more. Rooney is C and wont be dropped, so who will make room for Falcao? I think it will look like it did last game after Mata went out, with Rooney dropping deep and RVP Falcao up front

it's impossible to say really but I think RVP is just as vulnerable as Mata...and I'm not convinced that Rooney is anything more than a moderate player in the hole

I was thinking of bringing him in as cheap utd coverage... But was kind of worried about his place. Is he going to be the one benched?

Only LVG knows if he will lose his place. I can't see it tbh.

Maybe they will make him wingback 😛

LVG prefers mids in his number 10 spot, rather than forwards (Rooney).

But then, Rooney is captain...so it's all very confusing!

Thoughts on my wildcard team? Any suggestions would be great! Could do Heaton and Rafael over Wilson and Forster?

    Forster (Hamer)

    Bertrand Wilsonl Duff (Taylor Moore)

Ramsey Di Maria Fabregas Siggy (Marney)

    Costa Aguero Pelle

    0.3 in the bank

    thanks heaps guys.

Dangerous going with no Pool with their fixtures... Sterling over Di Maria?

Is Boyd nailed on? Hasn't played a 90min game apart from the last one. (Or was he injured?)

He's in the team now for sure. He was touted by a fan last week then loads of people got him in, myself included.

I'm worried about having no Man U attacking coverage and will probably WC this week. Is Di Maria a good option over the likes of Rooney? I will have Coasta and Aguero up front probably with Naismith.....

Funny. I got rid of them all just before they blew up all over QPR. I think playing a shit team like QPR has made them look much better than they actually are. Hopefully I'm right (for my sake).
