Rooney and Ramsey Replacements

Wayne Rooney’s suspension and Aaron Ramsey’s injury have presented many Fantasy managers with a tough set of decisions ahead of Gameweek 7. Both need to go and here I assess the likely replacements as well as look at the players that Fantasy managers are already drafting in.

Wayne Rooney Replacements

Rooney was sent off this week against West Ham with a straight red card, meaning a three-match ban. This has prompted 81,014 managers to transfer him out this week, and Rooney sits top of the transferred-out players of the round. With his price and length of ban it is absolutely essential to get the Manchester United forward out of your team. Here are my top quartet of replacements.

Graziano Pelle

Southampton

7.8m

Topping the transfers in for the week is Graziano Pelle. He’s been transferred in 69,501 times this round, after showing consistent form with four goals and one assist in his last four games. It is clear many Wayne Rooney owners have already selected Pelle as an ideal replacement.  Pelle is also top for shots in the box this season, even ahead of the popular Diego Costa. He also has a number of other impressive stats that Fantasy Football Scout members can check out here. The Saints’ new signing has been involved in almost half of his team’s goals this season, and is clearly key to their attack.

Southampton have a great run of fixtures in the next six. They face Sunderland, Stoke and Leicester at home, with favourable away fixtures against Hull and Aston Villa.

Danny Welbeck

Arsenal

7.2m

Welbeck has become an exciting prospect after switching from a bench role at Manchester United to the focal point of Arsenal’s attack, with Olivier Giroud still out through injury. The former Manchester United forward has picked up a goal and an assist in his first three games for Arsenal and has looked very promising. Arsenal’s fixtures take an upturn after this coming Gameweek (HUL, sun, BUR, swa and wba) and his prospects look good as a Rooney replacement.

Sergio Aguero

Manchester City

12.1m

Aguero has already notched four times this season, from just 348 minutes out of a possible 540. The Man City forward has been clinical in front of goal this season when given the opportunity, and while an upgrade on Rooney, is worth the extra money.  The Argentine also has a number of prominent statistics, in particular his shots inside the box which are very impressive given his minutes. City also have a very kind run in the coming weeks with games against Aston Villa,West Ham, QPR, Swansea, and a leaky Man United side in the next six.

Leonard Ulloa

Leicester City

5.9m

Coming in second for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) transfers in this round is Leonard Ulloa with 63,141 managers drafting him in so far this week. The Argentine is still the second highest scoring forward so far this season, with 38 points, ahead of the popular Graziano Pelle in third. Ulloa has had a terrific start in the Premier League with five goals in his first six appearances for the Foxes. In fact, he has notched five goals from just six shots on target this season. When you consider some of those goals have come against Everton, Arsenal and Manchester United, this is all the more impressive.

The record Foxes signing also has a kind run of fixtures to produce the goods (cpl, BUR, new, swa, WBA) in his next six. With weaker opposition to come in the next couple of weeks, Ulloa has a fantastic opportunity to replicate the form he has shown against stronger opposition. Ulloa is a great option for the third forward slot in your team and offers Rooney owners the chance to invest heavily across their team.

Aaron Ramsey Replacements

The Welshman features in this segment for the second time running, with masses of managers giving him the boot this week. He picked up an injury against Tottenham this weekend and has been ruled out for the Gameweek 7 game against Chelsea. That’s enough for 50, 542 managers to shift him out this week, with many more transfers out to come.

Getting Ramsey out looks like a priority transfer with 9.0 worth of value lying on your bench not looking like such a good idea. Other than his injury, and an imminent fall in price, there is his dip in form to warrant a transfer out. The 13/14 season dream team man hasn’t really performed this season, with his output dropping in the last few games. These reasons form a strong case to look for a replacement for Ramsey, with the appearance of several new midfield options helping the cause. I recommended that you drop him last week, and if you haven’t done so already, I suggest you do so this time around. Here are my top trio of replacements:

Dusan Tadic

Southampton

7.5m

Tadic has impressed in the Premier League this season, turning in some fantastic performances for Southampton. He has only managed three assists in his first six games but has fantastic underlying stats so far. The Serbian has looked to be Southampton’s main creator this season, and at times has been playing further forward than Pelle. The new signing looks like he is in for big returns soon, with him close to scoring two goals in his last game and constantly looking a threat.

A top option as a Ramsey replacement and one who could potentially be just as good as this season’s premium options. Also, a nice differential at a low ownership of 2.5%.

Angel Di Maria

Manchester United

9.9m

The Argentine has dazzled upon his arrival to Manchester, with two goals and two assists in his first four games for Man United. The former Real Madrid man has been vital to United’s attacking form this season, and has constantly driven the team forward with his devastating runs from box to box. The Old Trafford side have been excellent going forward as well, scoring an impressive nine goals in their last three games. Di Maria looks like Manchester United’s best attacking option this season, with him being his side’s chief creator and also a big part of their goal threat. Another great option to replace Ramsey if you have the cash in the bank to afford the premium price.

David Silva

Manchester City

9m

Silva has shown his potential so far this season with one goal and two assists so far.  The Spaniard had the fourth highest number of assists last season despite being injured for a portion of it but has been criticised as an FPL option for his lack of goal threat. His consistency and high assist potential make up for his lack of goal threat, though, in my opinion. City also have a very kind run off fixtures in the coming weeks. With fixtures and improving form on his side, the former Valencia man looks like another top replacement for Ramsey, and one that is being overlooked by many.

    Some good options there.

Watch out later today and this week when we will be publishing our own burning question articles on the Rooney and Ramsey situation.

It was submitted yesterday which seems to come up rather than the publish date. May be something I need to look at.

    Largely extended version here: http://thefplassistant.blogspot.com.au/

"Hot Cakes and Stale Bakes" article. A segment that looks at the top 2 players transferred in and out this round and their prospects. Also looking at potential replacements for the unfortunate lads on the stale end.

Hope this solves all your Rooney and Ramsey worries 🙂

Okay, not largely extended...just realised this one didn't vary as much as I previously thought. Still a little more info though 😉 And a different format 🙂

I went Welbeck/Silva, which left me enough money to get Baines next week.

I had some cash in the bank so it was a simple flair move to Silva and Aguero, those fixtures look too good to ignore!

Don't think you can call ADM a "big part of their goal threat" with only 1 SiB per game.

Certainly he has been a big part of their goal tally, hopefully it'll be quality over quantity though.

He's the guy that makes it all happen though for the SiB fellas.

        This.

He is though...in the past 3 GWs, Di Maria has been 3rd for Chances from open play ( Would be more with set pieces), 3rd for goal attempts(more than RVP), 3rd for SiB, 1 behind Rooney, 2 behind RVP, and 3rd for touches in the box. He's also their chief creator by far.

I'd say he's a pretty big part of their goal threat, he's ahead of Falcao in pretty much all those aspects as well and he's not even playing "in the hole".

Gone for Chadli over Tadic because it frees up the cash needed for Vardy > Aguero (though Leicester's very kind rn of fixtures puts me off making that switch)

Chadli is another great option, didn't have the time to include him though and I sold him for a hit last week 👿

Yeah, I'd hold that off too...I fancy Vardy this week.

Top of the forwards list should be Costa. Top of the mids list should be Sterling.

The options given are good but I think the article would work better if it didn't assume an existing template team.

Yes, but Costa is owned by 60 odd % of FPL managers...and most that don't have him are dead teams.

These are also players most people on here have in their teams, and if they don't they already know they should get them into their teams, unless they don't want them at all. These are "givens". There's no need to convince people to get them.

Not going to write a whole passage for a handful of people 😉

I see what you're trying to say but it's still a big assumption. What's not clear is what assumptions you are making though. Are you also assuming that Ramsey owners also have Haz/Fab and Siggy too? The examples I gave earlier are still getting transfers now so there are plenty of non-owners out there still playing.

I think what AR is getting at is that as a community, FFS have discussed Costa, Haz, Fab and Siggy to the nth degree. Like AR mentioned, if you don't already have them, you will be getting them when you can or you don't want them.

Striaght swap - silva or sterling?

(have no other liverpool, have only aguero from city)

worried that silva is a rotation risk to some extent (but sterling of course has missed a game unexpectedly too).

thanks - free mars bar for the first response!
