Our weekly analysis of the Captaincy contenders is rolled out once again this evening. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

Captain Poll

Yet again, Diego Costa is the favourite heading into the weekend’s matches. A home clash with Arsenal refuses to deter his backers – the Spain international has scored in all three of his appearances at the Bridge and faces a Gunners defence with a single shut-out to their name all season.

Sergio Aguero runs him close, though. City’s star striker has earned a significant number of new owners this week due to the fall-out from Wayne Rooney’s three-match suspension and has received 21% of the votes cast to Costa’s 24%. Aguero’s strike at Hull was his fourth of the season and he now pays visit to a Villa side reeling from back-to-back 3-0 defeats to Arsenal and Chelsea. Edin Dzeko is backed by just 3% by comparison, despite outscoring Aguero by 13 points to eight in the KC win.

Leicester’s Leonardo Ulloa is also highly fancied. Like Costa, he’s netted in all three matches in front of his own fans – having grabbed goals against Everton, Arsenal and Man United at the King Power Stadium, he welcomes a Burnley side that shipped four against the Baggies last Sunday.

Three goals in five starts ensures Raheem Sterling remains on the radar as Liverpool attempt to rediscover the form that served up 100 goals last season. The teenager entertains West Brom this time round, but with the visitors chalking up consecutive shut-outs, just 11% are looking to hand him the armband. United’s home clash with Everton also sees Angel Di Maria (5%) and Radamel Falcao (4%) feature prominently, though just 1% have placed their faith in Robin van Persie, despite the Dutchman scoring in each of the last two Gameweeks.

    Best defender for 5.3?
I've already got Clyne, Duff and Wisdom.

      Is Siggurdson essential moving forward.

      Mannone (Begovic)
      Ivanovic Clyne Shawcross (Duff Chambers)
Sigurdson Sterling Di Maria Fabregas (Shneiderlin)
      Ulloa Pele Costa
      0.4 ITB

Basically I'll be looking to upgrade Ulloa to Wellbeck probably next week and I'm not really sure how to do it. Sigurdson down to Jedinak looks like an option.

You could look to downgrade Ivanovic to a cheaper yet still solid option - Chelsea don't have the easiest run of fixtures ahead meaning clean sheets could dry up. While Everton have a decent run so you could bring in someone like Jagielka. I think defensive clean sheets are particularly hard to pick this season.

Could then use those funds to upgrade Ulloa to Wellbeck.

Not sure if soggy is required. Actually like Downing over Jedinak if you need a good fourth mid and that downgrade leaves you with enough for Wellbeck.

      Swansea's Taylor or Williams?

Chambers is likely to get a run out with Debuchy injured.

No. Tadic is overrated. Everyone here seems to think he is absolutely necessary although he hasn't earned the points yet. Everyone is just hoping he comes good. I saw Mane play and he is definitely the better pick. Good luck!

To be fair to Mane, his work permit came in late and has only been eligible to play one league game and got an assist. His stats during that game reflected that of Tadic.

    De Gea ( Mccarthy)
    ****************************
    Chambers - Clyne - Moore - (Wisdom) - (Wilson)
    *****************************
    ADM - Siggy - Fab - Sterling - (Boyd)
    *****************************
    Pelle - Costa - Falcao
    ****************************
i'm thinking save free transfer to allow up to 3 transfers for -4 after the break at which point:

Falcao + Boyd to Welbs and 9m midfielder
    OR
falcao+De Gea to Aguero and 4.5m GK

Also who to captain this week?!?! Falcao ?

I'm captaining falcao and then most likely shipping him next week for welbeck.

Would make sense to post this in the Captain Sensible (or otherwise!) article.

    The case for Siggy©

    Pros
    + Newcastle at home
+ Likely to play "in the hole"
+ Has FPL history plus a goal and 4 assists this season
+ No CL game earlier in the week
    + 4th highest owned player

    Cons
    - Has blanked in his last 3
    - Costa and Aguero are considered safer picks
    - Costa owned by practically every active team

I think the main reason why Siggy will be overlooked with the arm band is his form. Also, as the highest owned player, Costa is the safer pick, no question. But taking a closer look at form shows that while Siggy has blanked in his last 3, he has not been helped by circumstances Swansea have found themselves in.

    che - 2 pts
SOU - 2 pts (Bony sent off in the first half)
sun - 3 pts (Rangel sent off)

For me, there are valid reasons why Siggy has gone from returning 29 points in his first 3 games to 7 in his last 3, which do not necessarily suggest a dip in form.

I'm not trying to persuade anyone here. Captain Costa or Aguero, they are very good picks, but up against a woeful Newcastle at home this week, I think Siggy is still a very good option.

Yeah I was thinking welbeck to coz Chelsea but then he scored a hatrick this week. Might still be best to bench.

Everyone in my ML will captain costa. I'll be one of the few with kun. Armband is on kun at the moment but I feel I should hedge with costa. Those with both - what are you doing?

    need some advices here 🙂

DEF: Iva - Clyne - Moreno (Duff Collo)
Should I play Clyne / Duff?

MID: Siggy - Downing - Sterling - Di Maria - Cesc
    FWD: Costa - Ulloa (Pelle)
Should I bench Pelle? Or Ulloa / Cesc / else preferred for bench?
