Gameweek 9 Predictions

West Ham vs Man City

Manchester City would come out with all guns blazing to get over the midweek disappointment. Hammers have been an obliging opponents to them previously, but I don't think they will find them pushovers this year. Allardyce has shown his tactical acumen, and defending champions will have to be at their best to win against the in-form West Ham. City lead the league in SiB (94) while hammers are second with 73.

Prediction: 2-2

Liverpool vs Hull

Liverpool look shadow of the side which plundered 101 goals in league last year. Balotelli hasn't stepped up with Sturridge injured, fluffing easy chances. They will need to be more clinical against Hull, who will set themselves to soak pressure and hitting on counter, as they did against arsenal. Hull played to their tactical plan against gunners and can find some joy against ill-protected Liverpool defence.

Prediction: 2-1

Southampton vs Stoke

Saints' 8-0 game against sunderland was a big anomaly. Sunderland just fell apart like a pack of cards. I don't see the same happening against Stoke, who will try their best to disrupt Southampton's flow. Though Southampton have the best defensive record in league (actually and statistically) and I can't see it changing anytime soon.

Prediction: 2-0

Sunderland vs Arsenal

Gunners have good underlying stats (both offensively and defensively) but have been unlucky to be 7th in the table. Sunderland aren't as bad as the scoreline against Southampton suggests. Whether Black Cats come out fighting or whether they let the low morale affect them, regardless, Arsenal should win the match without much hassles.

Prediction: 0-2

West Brom vs Crystal Palace

Baggies gained a credible draw against United, and now looking much safer proposition, compared to their peers. Their underlying numbers are good, I think they are good differentials for FPL that are under the radar. Crystal Palace did put up a good fight against league leaders, but slowly are losing the defensive grit that Pulis installed, they score more compared to their previous selves, it depends on how more they concede which will decide their fate.

Prediction: 2-0

Swansea vs Leicester

A match-up between two sides who were flying high in early season, but are now without a win in 5 and 3 respectively. With Leicester boss planning to go defensive, and Swansea not creating enough chances, this clash might well be a cagey affair. Both team have been lucky statistically and are regression candidates.

Prediction: 1-1

Burnley vs Everton

On paper it is an easy match for the Toffees, but I am skeptical as this encounter comes after the dreaded Europa away fixture, which, as Ludo pointed out in his community article, does affect teams in general. Still, Clarets haven't done enough to show they can outmatch their opponents.

Prediction: 1-2

Spurs vs Newcastle

Spurs are the other team with late midweek exertions, also their numbers aren't that impressive (have actually conceded more shots than attempted), magpies have good numbers, but have been unlucky (poor finishing skills). If Spurs don't up their game, they won't be fighting for Champions League places.

Prediction: 1-1

Man Utd vs Chelsea

The big clash of week. Though Chelsea have been slightly lucky, their numbers are solid enough to see them occupy the summit for sometime. Much depends on how Mourinho sets up his team to play. With Manchester United's defence parting like the red sea (for Berahino's goal), its difficult to see them keeping the Blues out. If Chelsea decide to go for three points, the Red Devils won't find it easy to deny them.

Prediction: 1-2

QPR vs Aston Villa

An early relegation six-pointer in my opinion. Rangers showed promise in their attack last game but got undone by some really poor defending. Villa finally can feel at ease after getting humbled from four top class oppositions. Their numbers are also bit skewed because of their schedule (still have conceded less SiB compared to QPR though at an attacking cost). This one is anybody's game so I feel they might share the spoils.

Prediction: 2-2
