Granville and I make a New Year return to the ScoutCast studio, battered and bruised by the events of Gameweek 20 which saw us both inexplicably bench Harry Kane and his 18-point haul.

Having wasted our big differential and haunted by constant reminders, my co-host and I struggle to make a recovery. Spitting the pips from our sour grapes, we do our best to justify our doomed decision-making, before attempting to salve the wounds with talk of the Winter Wildcard refresh around the usual batch of regulars.

Feel the frustration via this link or swallow the bitter pill via the handy player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

With Vlaar and Yun out, and Chester doubtful should I take a hit to get a defender?

    A) Trippier
    B) Spurs defender
    C) Anyone else?

      How long is Vlaar out?
May consider bringing in Cieran Clark in my ESPN League then he is one of the cheapest options there....

Vlaar is out for 4 weeks minimum. I would prefer to get a Burnley defender instead of a Villa one

Would it be insane to hit the WC button right now and do this:

    Foster / Myhill
    Terry / Bertrand / PvA / Wisdom / Hutton
    Sanchez / Hazard / Silva / Siggy / Boyd
    Aguero / Costa / Kane

    ?

Leaves exactly 0ITB, so won't likely be able to do it after this weekend's price changes.

        Terry / Skrtl / Williams / Yun* / Bartley
        Yaya* / Silva / Hazard / Sanchez / Downing

This week's FT already used to bring in Kane.

Not captain...just maybe a better pick than Falcao. Good record against saints.

    Foster Hamer
    Terry Bertrand Hutton Lescott Duff
Hazard Di Maria AJ Fabregas Sanchez
    Falcao Kane Ings

First thing most people will point out is obviously double WBA - but with Pulis and their fixtures I'm prepared to chance it.
Secondly, front line is a bit weak but I feel Kane and Ings are as good as all the strikers outside the premium lot at the moment, Ings and AJ rotate will mean it should be easy to pick between them.

I would do the following changes:

      AJ > Boyd
Falcao > RVP (as place holder for for few weeks before Aguero)
      Hamer > Pantillimon
Duff (he won't play) > PVA of you can afford it.

If you can only afford one goal keeper I would make it Pantillimon. Check his PPG and our run of home games until end of season.

    Could do with some assistance...

    Foster
terry clichy naylor -- caulker yun
    hazard yaya sanchez siggy sterling
    rooney kane -- austin

Planning to WC in gw24 just realised my def is really really crap for gw22/23 so thinking of the following with my 2FTs

A: yaya >> Fab...carry over FT, next gw yun >> evans and take a punt on another transfer
    B: yaya/rooney >> Fabregas/Giroud..next gw yun >> baines as a 2 week punt
    C: yaya/rooney >> Adm/Costa...gw22: yun >> trippier as a 2 week punt

All three have their merits unfortunately...

A: fab is consistent n better value then costa. Rooney is also consistent plus 2 home games in next 3 so can easily score...on pens when rvp not on pitch, low goal involvement?

B: main attraction is the baines punt for 2 weeks before a WC, giroud has 2 decent fixtures in the next three and arsenal should score more then united who are hardly creating chances

C: adm/costa are def more explosive then fab/rooney but come with their risks as adm may not start, costa doesnt offer good value (i have shot up in the rankings since selling him) but gods maybe in my favour and i get him back just before he goes on a scoring streak.

How does that affect our Villa backline coverage in the WC? I know a lot of people were planning to get Hutton, and slightly less so Guzan, but surely they will leak more goals without Vlaar? Has his injury made anybody rethink their WC?

So, most people seem to be planning to use their WC after GW22. For those people, Saturday 17th is the time when the clock will start ticking, albeit slowly, to make their changes.

It's always nice to get a double price rise and make some profits, who are the players we think are most likely to rise by 0.2m+. Bear in mind that WC changes apparently do not count (or count little) towards price changes

    1. kalmoffit
      • 12 Years
      11 years, 6 months ago

It doesn't look like anyone will double rise, playing wildcard a week earlier could work just as well

    2. Sess!
      • 15 Years

Pas they've changed e algorithm this year so wildcard changes aren't taken into account while active, gone are the days of making some cheek pay money during your wildcard week. Look how slow the market has been this week to give you an indication.

      1. Sess!
        • 15 Years

They've changed the price algorithm that was supposed to read.

    3. Ruth_NZ
      • 11 Years
      11 years, 6 months ago

Do we know that? Isn't it possible that the wildcard changes only get counted at the end of the GW when the WC is complete?

If that's the way it works there will be a whole bunch of risers and fallers on Saturday night.

      1. Fitzy.
        • 14 Years
        11 years, 6 months ago

Nah, I reckon they've made the changes specifically to stop people making money on the WC by bringing in players for the double rise and then dumping before lockout. Can't think of any other reason they would have changed it.

Maybe rose? Left field choice I know. I would def say lescott but maybe too early to double up west brom defs? Could be a genius move mind at the same time.

Does this look ok for this week? No hits..

    Pantilimon

    Zabaleta Terry Baines (Hutton Wasilewski)

Fabregas Siggy Hazard (c) Sanchez (Boyd)

    Austin Kane Benteke

Boyd instead of Siggy? Hutton instead of Baines?

You sure?? Just seems he's scored at least one whilst giroud was fit. Also Sanchez took the pen vs QPR when giroud was on pitch.

Either way with Cazorla looking pretty confident on them, i expect they're his to lose now (with the exception of Arteta).

Yeah, Giroud was never on the pitch for any of Cazorla's pens. But yeah, could well be him assuming duties now that he's tucked a few away

Game time will be reduced was ozil, Walcott and Ramsey are all fully up and running which will be over the next few weeks. He'll also lose pens once Arteta back.

Can you really assume that Walcott will be a regular starter when fit?

18 months ago he didn't have competition from Sanchez and Ozil. Add Cazorla and Oxlade to that and when everyone is fit there are 5 players for 3 slots behind Giroud.

Arsenal still have Europe and the FA Cup as well as the PL. I think it's pretty likely that (a) Wenger will phase Walcott in gradually, and (b) there will be rotation even when he is fully fit. I can't see him starting every game.

could be wrong on that actually..maybe they left him out due to his injury..

            http://www.sportal.com.au/football/english-football/burnley-v-qpr-redknapp-out-to-forget-cup-nightmare/ac5ic9uhf72j1308wlicskkgr

"QPR are still without Sandro (knee) and Yun Suk-young (ankle), and will look to former Burnley striker Charlie Austin to provide their major goal threat."

Doesn't sound like a club losing the player to a tournament and more so losing him to injury..

"Stielike also decided against calling other European players.

Hong Jeong-ho, a defender with Augsburg in the Bundesliga, and Yun Suk-young, a left back with Queens Park Rangers in the English Premier League, missed out after struggling with injuries while Ji Dong-won paid the price for a lack of game time with Borussia Dortmund."

if he's back in full outdoor training it's a great sign and think that Chelsea makes much more sense than what should be a winnable match against a mediocre Everton..

with Hull after Chelsea, it doesn't make much sense to be saving him for that..

just leave funds aside for him or pick up someone expensive that you don't want to keep (like RVP or Falcao for QPR next gameweek) and then swap from there

    Hart
    Azpi - Hutton - Taylor
    Sanchez - Haz(c) - Downing - Silva
    Austin - RVP - Benteke

    Jakupovic - King - Duff - Oshea

Will Benteke outscore Giroud this week? Is it worth me holding teke 1 more week?
    Other changes?
