Ospina and the Latest Keeper Rotation Options

Getting the best goalkeeper combination right in the winter Wildcard is crucial as it is the last position you want to be wasting a precious transfer on as the season marches to its conclusion in May. For most, cheap rotation is the preferred option and suddenly David Ospina, Arsenal’s 4.8-priced keeper, is an option to throw into the mix. Here are some of the best goalkeeper rotations including the late information those hanging onto their Wildcards will hope to take advantage of.

Tim Krul (New) & David Ospina (Ars)

Total cost: £9.2m

Rotation: AVL, STO, LEI, cpa, AVL, qpr, WHU, new, sun, bur, SUN, SWA, hul, SWA, qpr, WBA (7 away)

Late Wildcard information: Ospina has back-to-back clean sheets in the Premier League and looks to have done enough to secure  starting berth. Krul (4.4) rotates well and looks a good choice to start for Gameweeks 24, 27, 34, and 37.

Ben Foster (WBA) & Tim Krul (New)

Total cost: £9.0m

Rotation: hul, STO, SWA, sun, AVL, avl, STO, ARS, QPR, LEI, cpl, SWA, lei, WBA, qpr, WHM (6 away)

Late Wildcard information: We’ve had time to see West Brom boss Tony Pulis tighten up the WBA defence and Krul come back from injury, although he conceded twice against Chelsea and Southampton. Arsenal and West Ham, both at home, look like the toughest in this run.

Costel Pantillimon (Sun) & Tim Krul (New)

Total cost:  £9.0m

Rotation: BUR, STO, QPR, WBA, AVL, hul, AVL, whm, NEW, CPL, TOT, SWA, lei, WBA, LEI, WHM (3 away)

Late Wildcard information: For maximising home fixtures this works well, and Krul is now fit. West Ham away and Tottenham at home look as tricky as this run gets.

David Ospina (Ars) & Costel Pantilimon (Sun)

Total cost: £9.4m

Rotation: AVL, swa, LEI, WBA, EVE, qpr, AVL, new, NEW, bur, SUN, sto, hul, SWA, LEI, WBA (6-away)

Late Wildcard information: Again Ospina looks an intriguing option, and when paired with Pantilimon and his propensity for save points, you get a good set of fixtures. Pantilimon looks set to step in for Swansea and Stoke away and West Brom, Aston Villa, Newcastle and Leicester at home.

David Ospina (Ars) & Ben Foster (WBA)

Total cost: £9.4m

Rotation: AVL, bur, LEI, sun, SOU, qpr, STO, new, QPR, LEI, SUN, LIV, hul, SWA, qpr, WBA (6-away)

Late Wildcard information: Am I putting too much faith in Ospina? I think he is worth a punt and this is a classic case of having a great fall back if it all goes wrong. Foster under Tony Pulis looks extremely reliable. This combination sees the pair play eight games each with Ospina having the AVL, LEI, qpr, new, sun, hul, SWA, WBA fixtures and Foster taking bur, sun, SOU, STO, QPR, LEI, LIV, qpr.

Conclusion

Ospina has really given Fantasy managers something to think about if he can maintain his starting run. For me as tempting as some combinations are I can’t see past matching up Arsenal’s cheap keeper option with a reliable fall back.  Of the above Ospina/Krul and Ospina/Foster look to be the pick of the combinations for those interested in utilising the Arsenal man.

Interesting new take on the goalkeeper rotation. Not too many had considered Ospina before - but he certainly looks nailed on.

    Cheers for posting.

Cheers for posting?? CHEERS FOR POSTING???

Cheers for stealing my idea (and a few others) and making it now wholesale amongst top players

      Damn you.

FYI if it all goes wrong and shez gets the spot back, lumping for foster or Krul as a partner also allows you to pick up the other to keep a good rotation for just the single transfer.

      Thanks for the editing!

I agree that Ospi/Krul looks like the best way to utilise this and then making the move to Foster or Pantilimon in one transfer if Shez gets back in works well.

It also allows us to get cheaper ways into the backlines of WBA and Sunderland.

May I ask for some advice?

What do you do if one of your 'big 7' attackers is injured? Do you just leave Boyd to play, or an average defender, or do you transfer for a -4 and hope that it works?

The issue with selecting Ospina, and the Arsenal GK in general, is that it kills the appeal of watching Arsenal.
Arsenal is an attacking team I enjoy watching from both football perspective as well as FPL.
    Selecting Ospina
    - takes out an Arsenal spot
    - affects the enjoyment of watching Arsenal

With Arsenal philosophy, form and fixtures, I'd rather have 3 attacking arsenal players or 2 attacking and a defender.
Don't like watching a match where my GK plays.
That's one of the reasons I tend to pick gks from small teams that's unlikely I watch. The likes of Foster, Panti fit the bill for me.

Don't rotate Krul and Pantilmon. Look at Panti's clean sheets and where they've been.

look at his fixtures and you might get the reason for those clean sheets. Now look at who he is playing away in the remaining games, doesn't look like too many away cs for the rest of the season.

I'm thinking of playing my wc this week and am tempted to bring in Defoe for either Austin or Kane. Is this madness or a good idea? And if so which would you guys replace? My other striker would be aguero.

The rotation's wrong for Foster / Ospina. Penultimate game is a choice between CHE or mun. Not great! They rotate pretty poorly which is a shame as I want them both.

Ah yes the last one is mun and not great.

Foster only really helps out in GW24 and GW31. I'm looking at Ospi/Krul with a 3-way def rotation.

Ars/Lei rotate the best, I'd say. Don't know when Schmeichel is due back though and Ospina is risky enough as it is.

Based on fixture difficulty (I don't bother with H/a rotations).
