Dugout Discussion

The Dugout Discussion – Sunday

We’ve a couple of Premier League encounters to tide us over this afternoon. First up, Arsenal entertain Villa at the Emirates as Arsene Wenger’s men look for a fifth win in six attempts – the likes of Santi Cazorla, Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud have earned plenty of new investors over the last couple of days as a result of Alexis Sanchez’ hamstring problems. With Villa failing to score in each of their last five, the Gunners’ prospects of a third straight shut-out also look likely here.

Later in the day, Southampton welcome under-strength Swansea to St Mary’s at 4pm. Eljero Elia was drafted in by 100,000+ FPL managers on the back of a double at Newcastle last time out but with Sadio Mane back from the African Cup of Nations, the Dutchman’s new owners will be eagerly awaiting Ronald Koeman’s team sheet. Like Arsenal, the Saints will be optimistic of a clean sheet today – Swansea are devoid of the suspended Gylfi Sigurdsson and have scored more than a single goal in just one of the last 11 Gameweeks.

What to do with this lot (plus 0.2 itb)?

    Panti, Heaton
    Dann, Kos, Hutton, Wisdom, PvA
    Sanchez, Caz, Haz, Fab, Puncheon
    Aguero, Kane, Austin

My gut instinct is to save this week and use the 2ft to do a double defensive change in a week's time (Kos, Hutton > Bellerin, Clyne or Dann, Hutton > Zouma, Toby for example).

    Any advice much appreciated 🙂

Who's the priority of Giroud and Cazorla, then?

Can only have one of them due to two Arsenal already

Worth doing Cahill & Wasi ----> Zouma & Alderweireld for free?

    Thinking long term, I think.

I wouldn't as both Zouma and Cahill are at risk of rotation.

Looks like the template was officially smashed this GW, good news for WCers nonetheless.
All the big hitter/highly owned players deliver this GW, seems we have a plethora of good options to have. In tandem with the fact that there's a blank GW coming up on Gw27, followed by a DGW for QPR and Spurs on Gw28, these are season defining moments indeed.

With all of Silva, AdM, Cazorla, Walcott, Sterling, Ozil, Hazard, Eriksen, Oscar, Sanchez and heck even Coutinho fit and firing we are lucky to count our chickens to have so many good options still (plus a new Cuadrado singing could shake things up). We realistically have room for at least 4 (most will have 3) of these premiums, albeit you can push it to 5 if you're going 352 and opting for a budget mid to pair up one of Aguero/Falcao/Sturridge.

Last week on a WC, many were disappointed with the lack of good options of top with Costa's absence. Now it looks like with Sturridge's cameo and goal off the bench, he could be a serious contender for our WC sides albeit his price might sway some off and there's an argument for his value being warranted. Coupled with Pool's fixtures (eve, TOT, sot, MCI), I can see why many may be put off by getting him when Giroud, Kane and even Falcao have better fixtures and have form to boost their appeal.

Also, there are many defenses who warrant our attention and for good reason. Whether it's the obvious Chelsea defender

So for those on WC, don't hesitate to stray away from the pack as there's points to be had from all these forwards and mids in the coming GW's imo (some more than others obviously). Also, it goes w/o saying that one should ideally try to plan for this coming blank and subsequent DGW by whatever strategy you find most fulfilling. Could be planning transfers and saving 2 FT's to take out your unwanted assets for the DGW, holding players in the bench attic for his team's DGW, limiting Leicester players and QPR players, or investing in a good bench and having a couple of players who can optimally cover your Chelsea/Spurs blank.

There are many to ways to skin this chicken, no right or wrong answer for the most part so while yes, you should ask for advice, go with your gut and try your best to go off your best judgment of the game. A steady head and a clear vision are key for these coming GW's, so hold your temperament and when/if you have a poor GW, don't let it bring you down and don't lose the grand scheme of things. You gotta win this damn you! This game is not for the faint of heart, this is what separates the men from the boys. This is the SUPERBOWL dammit! Shieeeettttttttt

Very well put Zasa, just to add to your brief I also believe the emergence of Zouma, Ameobi, Colback, Haidara, Falcoa, Sturridge, Defoe, Walters, Theo, Ozil and Bellerin as viable picks and the crashing of Baird and double Saints bandwagon adds to the advantage of Feb wild carder's. Also the obvious advantage of bringing in the winter signings too, cheers to all who are still holding it 😉

P.S- What you guys think of Zouma? A 4.6 player from the best defence in the league and his mins also look more or so assured due to his brilliant performance against Liverpool and City ( Sterling and Kun) Vs Cahill's comedy at Spurs and Bradford. He may miss out that odd match due to rotation but it's worth it for his price and wouldn't be much of an issue for the lot of us going for a 3 way rotation for the defence. It's a worthy place holder for that third chelsea berth until we all bring in Costa for GW 28 or later. Ballerina is the obvious alternate for 0.2 cheaper but is in relatively more of a rotation risk than Zouma and will also occupy that precious Gooner slot which already has a multitude of contenders (The most currently). So realistically you can look at a defence of JT/ Clyne and Zouma/ Pva/ 4.5 which I believe is brilliant and Pva plus a 4.5 def can easily cover Zouma's rotation risk. I believe he has also scored in a cup game recently and at the worst he can be a brilliant 1st sub. Punt or a solid pick?

So, can we expect Theo to be nailed on from here?

    Here is my WC draft

    Krill, Myhill
    Baird, Waz, Zouma, Bellerin, PVA
    Hazard, Fabregas, Silva, Carzola, Eriksen,
    Ageuro, Sturridge, Kane

Or do I downgrade Sturridge to Giroud and upgrade other areas?

    Thanks
