With European football back on the agenda, we’re joining forces with The Sun once again to announce a brand new game for Fantasy managers. The Sun’s Dream Team Europe (DTE) covers the knockout stages of both the Champions League and Europa League and gets underway this Tuesday, running all the way up until the Berlin Champions League final on Saturday June 6.
There’s a total of £50,000 in the prizes to give over the course of the DTE game – by far the biggest pot on offer in a European Fantasy Football game. The winner takes home a cool £25,000, with the runner-up consoling themselves with a cheque for £7,500. Indeed, finish in the top ten and you’ll be sure to be in the money. With £2,000 pay-outs also on offer for the winner of each of the four phases over the tournament, there’s plenty of opportunities to benefit from The Sun’s generosity.
Ways To Play
To stand the best chance of winning, Fantasy managers need to enter their teams prior to 7.45pm on Tuesday, when Paris St Germain host Chelsea and Shakhtar entertain Bayern Munich, though you can still enter into the DTE game after those kick offs.
You can pick a team for free and compete for the full £50,000 in prizes, though you need to enter payment details to sign up to Sun+ on a free one-month trial in order to access the game. You can, however, cancel the Sun+ at any point.
If you opt to back your European know-how, you can grab a Premium Package – this gives you five teams for £9.99 and comes with three months of Sun+ and a free £20 Amazon voucher. To get involved, click
The Ruleset
The basic ruleset remains very straightforward. Each team must consist of XI players, with Fantasy managers handed a budget of £50m to assemble their selection in either a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3 formation.
Players score points from the Champions League and Europa League matches and bearing in mind we’re now down to the knockout stages, it’s perhaps wise to avoid those budget picks from outsiders who are likely to be eliminated by the big boys, forcing you into early tinkering.
Like the main Dream Team game, goals and clean sheets are the major source of points. Assists count for nothing although Dream Team has its own “Bonus Point” scoring system in the shape of the “Star Man” award, which is basically man of the match and earns 5 extra points, while all players who earn 7 or more in The Sun player ratings in a match pick up another 3 points. Transfers
The DTE offers Fantasy managers a total of 20 transfers over the course of the game, though there are limitations as to how many we can use during each stage. We can make eight of their trades overs Phases 1 and 2, with a further 12 available for Phases 3 and 4, allowing us to restructure as the competitions unfold. There’s no roll over of transfers from Phases 1 and 2, though, so you need to use them or lose them.
The breakdown of the Phases are as follows:
Phase 1: February 17 -26, which takes in the first leg of the eight Champions League Last 16 matches and both legs of the 16 Europa League last 32 matches.
Phase 2: March 10 -19, which takes in the second leg of the eight Champions League Last 16 matches and both legs of the eight Europa League last 16 matches.
Phase 3: April 14-23, which takes in both legs of the Champions League and Europa League Quarter-Finals.
Phase 4: May 5 – June 6, which takes in the Semi-Finals and Finals of both the Champions League and Europa League.
The Fantasy Football Scout League
We’ve opened up a League for the Fantasy Football Scout community and The Sun have kindly put up £200 for the winner. To enter, register your team, click on Leagues and use the league PIN 8319836 to get involved.

So in the first two phases of the sun game above, the europa league teams have double fixtures. Hardly seems fair.
