In our quest to unearth three hidden gems this Gameweek, we’ve turned to a trio of midfielders who netted in the previous round of fixtures. Manchester United’s favourable match-up draws us towards their overlooked Spaniard, while we’re backing Liverpool’s fleet-footed Brazilian to triumph in the face of stern opposition. To complete our line-up, we see the Villains’ rejuvenated winger as the catalyst to end their losing streak.

Ander Herrera

Competing for places in Manchester United’s midfield alongside the likes of Michael Carrick, Daley Blind, Wayne Rooney and Adnan Januzaj, Ander Herrera has largely been consigned to a bit-part role in the league this term. More recently, though, a lengthy injury to Carrick, allied with Rooney’s deployment in a more advanced role – in light of Robin Van Persie’s absence – has afforded the Spaniard starts in the Red Devils’ previous three matches in all competitions. The 25-year-old bagged two goals in that period, including his third of the league campaign.

Intriguingly, Herrera has now netted in all three clashes in which he’s lasted the full 90 minutes. Moreover, in terms of productivity, the former Athletic Bilbao man has contributed a goal or an assist more frequently (every 133 minutes) than both Rooney (161 minutes) and Van Persie (165). Herrera (7.1) is no doubt a risky proposition, yet with many Fantasy Premier League big-hitters tied up at the Capital One Cup Final, United’s home tie against Sunderland and subsequent trip to Newcastle could encourage short-term investment in Louis van Gaal’s outfit before the schedule stiffens in Gameweek 29.

Scott Sinclair

Following a nightmare three-year spell at Manchester City in which he only registered 13 league appearances, Scott Sinclair appears to finally have his flagging career back on track, with goals in his last two outings for Aston Villa. The 25-year-old winger clocked his first 90 minutes of the campaign against Stoke last Saturday, lining up to the left of Christian Benteke in a 4-3-3 set-up and opened the scoring in Tim Sherwood’s first official match in charge. At least in these early stages, Sherwood’s employment of Sinclair and Gabriel Agbonlahor suggests he favours pace on the flanks, strengthening the former Swansea star’s chances of securing a run of starts.

If Sinclair harbours any aspirations of returning to the form that earned him that ill-fated move to City, then the Villains’ upcoming run of fixtures (new, WBA, sun, SWA) provides a decent platform to achieve just that. An embattled Newcastle defence – that shipped five goals against the Sky Blues last Gameweek and has a single clean sheet in 14 attempts – should present Sinclair with opportunities to test goalkeeper Tim Krul and help bring an end to Villa’s 11-match unbeaten streak.

Philippe Coutinho

Philippe Coutinho should take to the Anfield pitch on Saturday with renewed energy, having sat out the Reds’ midweek Europa League clash against Besiktas. Prior to Thursday, the Brazilian playmaker had started their last 19 matches in all competitions, illustrating how integral he is to Brendan Rodgers’ plans. Liverpool’s 10-match unbeaten run in the league has yielded five assists and two goals for Coutinho, as contrasted to his one-goal haul for the rest of the season. Furthermore, the Merseysiders’ 2-0 win over Southampton on Sunday marked the 22-year-old’s most productive afternoon (11 points) this campaign.

Prospective investors may well be discouraged by the fact Liverpool face Manchester City at the weekend, yet it’s worth noting that Coutinho has been particularly consistent in front of his own fans and delivered attacking returns in four of his last five at Anfield. Additionally, while Sergio Aguero and David Silva arrive in terrific form, City’s defence has been far from impregnable on the road – the champions have registered a single clean sheet (at Leicester in mid-December) in their last six road trips. With a midweek home clash against Burnley to follow, Coutinho, at 7.7 in FPL, could prove a canny alternative as the Reds look to bounce back from the disappointment of Thursday’s Europa League exit to Besiktas.

    i don't get it

projections says one player expected score for this week 5,5 and other 4,3 and yet the vast majority disagrees! How reliable/accurate are this predicted scores from your experience?

You're asking if predictions are accurate on a one game basis? these have been generated by numerous factors and statistics, they are merely an average and shouldn't be taken too seriously as a one off prediction.

Probably better to use RMT over say the next 6GW's or something like that. Its more accurate the more games it includes.

I have nothing to lose really. I'm honestly losing interest in FPL, that's what a terrible run does to ones mind. I want to get some of the enjoyment back, so I'm going to go against the herd and give the armband to Theo. It's a very risky move and I'll only have myself to blame if he's on the bench or if he blanks while Aguero/Sanchez etc all do well, but I'm happy to take the risk this week. I wouldn't advise anyone else to join me though, if you care about your rank 🙂

If you want to go against the flock, then join me Alexis (c). 😀

It won't be more than 20% I dont think. Just think owning Walcott is differential enough but looks like you are convinced. Good luck.

Well good luck to you sir. I'm looking at the captain options now and one reading of the underlying stats suggests putting the arm band on Puncheon isn't looking a totally crazy option... 😯

Walcott would be great story if it comes off. He's one of my 11. I think I doubt his game time too much to give him the armband, but I also recognise his potential is to great to risk swapping him out for someone more nailed on - I'd kick myself he plays and scores.

Cheers Diva. Puncheon is one step too far IMO, but what do I know? 😉

Walcott's explosive potential is another positive. He'll be crucial at exploiting the space behind Baines who'll be up the field attacking a lot. Good luck this week.

I am still hoovering over transfer in Mane for Wally button but haven't decided still . Next week is a good one, this one is bad one and than it comes Chelsea. Maybe he isn't worth the punt after all. hmmm....

Completely my fault and I should have just done it last night but on FPL Statistics Wisdom was 60% to drop....

Same here. Not the best start to the day. I hate the unreliability of these sites - it's cost me about 0.7 over the season.

Tis annoying. Glanced at the 94% success rate for drops and thought 60% would be fine!

Good idea too. Swansea have a slightly better run of fixtures though. I'm looking to WC after the DGW.

    That PVA article saya 3 thigs;
    A) the author has PVA in his fabtasy team
    B) Poyet wont know if man u playing a diamond until the mstch starts so that part irrelevant
    B) Poyet wasnt gonna say hes been dropped coz hes a liability so he batted it off with a he's important to us line

Fix defence for this GW or make it up next? Have 1FT and 0.1 itb

    Panti
    Kos Jones Hutton* Wisdom*
    Sanchez ADM Mane Moses
    Kun Giroud

    Terry Haz Kane

    A. Hutton -> Naughton
    B. Save FT so I can do ADM Wisdom -> Erik Rose next GW for free

      A) as u will need to fix at some point and the double may not be a double for rested players

Is everyone that convinced of Aguero C??

I mean, there is a very good chance Liverpool will put up a good fight at least and not concede much to city.

Aguero could easily put up a blank or maybe a solitary assist or goal while others have bigger hauls.

Currently on Aguero for me but only Cazorla, Di Maria and Silva as differentials for me.

Almost going with Kun by default but sort of hoping at this point not confident.
