It has been a catalogue of defender problems since wildcard even though I didn't go with any ultra-cheapies.

    >Wisdom had to be replaced, I went with Alderweireld who has taken ages to get fit
    >PvA has been in and out of the team
    >Jones got ill and missed 2 clean sheets in the very games I wanted him for, I have just replaced him with Schlupp
    >Wollscheid gets injured and misses a clean sheet, he'll need replacing when Stoke's fixtures turn and may not be fit for GW 29 when I need him to play

I wanted starting defenders so I didn't have to waste FTs on them but only Terry has been reliable. Only consolation is that a lot of others have been affected too I guess.

I had that straight after my Jan wildcard , bought Cahill just before he was dropped, Gardos trying to be clever and Debuchy the day he got injured, their teams all kept CS for those games without my players playing

No, it doesn't. I don't have a spare Chelsea slot. And I have used my FT to remove Jones for Schlupp in any case. Wollscheid will have to stay till GW 31/32 and PvA I will take my chances with. But as Balders says below it has been a royal pain.

My WC....Cahill, who got dropped immediately...Shawcross who got injured twice immediately...Debuchy who got a dislocated shoulder immediately...Toby who got injured immediately...I bet nobody can beat that.

        Actually that is pretty extreme.

If you still have Cahill you might be OK with him now, he is playing much better again.

Swap PVA for Baird and Terry for Fonte and you've got my lot. It's not been pretty.

      Unlucky.

I got Baird and Foster in on my Jan WC giving me a WBA triple up with wisdom 😯

Got Wisdom out for Rose but still struggling to move Baird out...

Yep, that's the thing. There are more important transfers to do than defenders but when you can't field a team it gets problematic. 😉

I know how you feel here Ruth, as I too fell victim to the plague in the back. It was well planned though, so don't beat yourself up for it, just unlucky not to reap the rewards as the consequences were out of your control. I'm sure you'll bounce back form that rut though, no worries

      1. Ruth_NZ

Not a rut really, I have managed some small green arrows in recent weeks but mainly thanks to my midfield. Will be just below par this week with 54 and no hits.

It's just that these defender issues seem never-ending at the moment. They are dropping like flies. 😉

Aye, it's hard to pinpoint where the smart money is to be had with even Kosc/Komps benched this week. Looks like Chelsea and Saints (ironically the best defenses), have the safer and albeit more highly owned defenders but it's a warranted investment IMO

Could always look at Swansea Ruth 😮

I agree and am hoping so but West Ham are no rubbish side. Burnley, however, are. Also seems a really good game for a City pen...Burnley defenders seem to make a lot of diving challenges in the box whenever I see them.

Hmmm... I'd think about holding off on that for 1 week. Palace are quite open so Austin has a good GW 29 fixture. Southampton are quite tight so Costa doesn't, he may score but I can't see a haul. GW 30 onwards is when you need Costa (and when I am planning to bring him in).

        1. Walsh
          • 12 Years

Dann and Delaney are bullies. I don't think Austin will find any pleasure against us. I also hate having an attacker going up against Palace 🙂 I see where you're coming from and I was considering something else but I think I'll just get Costa in as I had planned.

Ah. If you are a Palace fan it makes more sense. 😉

I have just though all along that Hull-Chelsea GW 30 is the game I want him back for. I'm happy to give Rooney one more game whilst he's playing upfront. Had the ball in the net again tonight but disallowed on a dodgy offside decision.

    Man Utd next 5 includes

    TOT liv MCI che

To me, Liverpool have started winning games (i.e. earning wins)
Whereas Man Urd for some time have been not losing.
Man Utd aren't earning wins. They've just had opposition who aren't turning up.
Like tonight, they somehow won while playing poorly again.
Simply because Newcastle didnt take their chances.

After this next month or so, surely we'll see ManUtd fall out of the top 4?

      i hope so

they don't deserve champions league football, and they don't need the money

i know football is about winning, but they have had extreme look. i don't rate Van Gaal at all. why did he sign Falcao? He sets the team up poorly yet has been winning..i know it's a contradiction in a way but next month is a real test for him.

    1FT 4.6m ITB

Trying to figure out the best transfer here. I think I definitely want rid of Eriksen after the DGW. This is the first time I've owned him....even though Spurs have good fixtures after GW29, so do SOTON and I like Mane as a differential, and I think a City double up will be more profitable than a Spurs double up. It comes down to City mid or Liverpool mid for coverage....City's fixtures might just swing it...

    A) Eriksen > Silva
    B) Eriksen > Yaya
    C) Eriksen > Coutinho
    D) Eriksen > Sterling
    E) Eriksen > Silva / Mane > Henderson/Coutinho/Sterling (-4)
    F) something else

You don't find Kramaric or Berahino more appealing? They could both be good options! Leicester have great attacking fixtures before the DGW
(HUL, tot, WHM, wba, SWA), may be his time to gather steam before the DGW

                Or maybe even Gomis....

I don't. Kramaric not my cup of tea and Berahino just too reliant on those counterattacking against the run of play goals with Pulis in charge. Gomis could be a good shout though. I have liked Sakho though all year, have yet to own him, and they've got a good run coming up.

Well that's what I was thinking - Austin to Sakho after the QPR run of cpl EVE and west ham are done with Arsenal.

Hmmmm, you're probably right on the Berahino part and aye their team isn't the best for picking out attacking returns.

Guess Hammers attack is more appealing though as they've proven they're a great team going forward when Downing, Valencia and Sakho are all fit and firing.

I'd still play with Gomis though, Siggy back in I think will multiply his appeal soon.

Yeah I do like Gomis too. All good picks. And now I'm strongly considering going without Costa...ugh. Will be a long week of deliberation.

Wakey make's a great point though, maybe you're better off waiting for Costa come the DGW and hope his YC comes before then.

Crazy how many genuine budget options there are now, Austin, Bera, N' Doye, Gomis, etc

Then again, are any of them captaincy picks though? Or have the explosive potential as a Costa, Sturridge or Rooney? Not sure, most wouldn't feel comfortable captaining any of them bar Austin who's proven he can score double digits.

You can always argue it's not smart money though, when that extra 4-5.0m can be put to good use

I'll be getting him with my transfer this gameweek I think. Not so sure if it's a good idea given the way Chelsea have been playing recently but whatever. I think his differential status at this point is too good to be true even if he has been off the boil a bit. Could easily come off.

        22 Mar 16:00 Gameweek 30 Hull (A)
        04 Apr 17:30 Gameweek 31 Stoke (H)
        12 Apr 13:30 Gameweek 32 QPR (A)
        18 Apr 17:30 Gameweek 33 Man Utd (H)

Surely goals/goal chances in those considering the service at the moment with hazard and oscar willian?

Austin is an odd ball for sure.

Two years ago I spotted Lukaku and Benteke in the similar price bracket and kept them for the entire season...Exactly the same stats as the premium RVP and Suarez picks, at the time, and in the end they delivered just fine (it meant I had premium mids all season)...Austin is the same.

I think you definitely need to downgrade someone in midfield if you want to upgrade up front, albeit I'm not sure if you wanna stick with the 352/343 . Guessing you'll bench Mane next week and play 343 right? If so, I'd hold fire, Sterling hasn't been at his best but is still highly capable of scoring, I'd keep for now. That's a good front seven for the week, you're definitely better off with 2 FT's to see where you wanna go with your team long term and have more room to meaneuver IMO
