Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 36

We take our usual Sunday evening look at the number of new injuries picked up over the weekend’s fixtures, with United nursing a number of concerns in the final third.

Chelsea
Kurt Zouma was selected ahead of Gary Cahill for this afternoon’s draw with Liverpool but lasted just 35 minutes before being subbed off through injury. Petr Cech missed out altogether with a slight neck problem.

Everton
Leighton Baines is set for scans after being forced off through injury 74 minutes into the Toffees’ 2-0 home loss to Sunderland. Post-match, Roberto Martinez went on to say:

“We are going to assess his ankle. He was really suffering, it was very painful so at that point we couldn’t take any risks. We are going to assess him over the next 48 hours and find out if he is going to be available for the rest of the season.”

Leicester
Nigel Pearson is sweating on the fitness of Matty James, after the midfielder was stretchered off during yesterday’s clash with Southampton. Post-match, the Foxes boss seemed pessimistic over the midfielder’s injury before also revealing that substitute David Nugent picked up a problem in the 2-0 win:

“We had to deal with a couple of injuries throughout the game. Matty James picked up what looks to be quite a serious knee injury then Nuge (David Nugent) going on as a sub and not being able to finish the game at full tilt. It potentially gives you a few problems. Credit to the players though, they dealt with what they had to today. [For Matty James] It really is a case of getting the scan done and taking it from there. It doesn’t look to be at all encouraging. It could be a serious knee injury, but we’ll wait and see what the scan tells us. With Nuge it’ll be a case of having a scan and seeing where we go.”

Reports also indicate that Leonardo Ulloa sustained a hamstring problem before making way for Nugent.

Manchester United
Luke Shaw and Wayne Rooney were both withdrawn due to injury during United’s trip to Palace. After the 2-1 win, Louis van Gaal played down the pair’s problems:

“It was very bad because our team was out of balance. Phil Jones had to play as a left full-back. Rooney has a dead leg so I had to change things that were not in our favour at that time, but still these in circumstances, we fought until the end and we have beaten Crystal Palace. Shaw took an elbow and had a bloody nose, but he went to the hospital and I have already heard that he shall fly home with us so I don’t think it is very bad. Out of precaution, we took him off. Rooney had a dead leg so next week he is healthy and fit to play.”

Robin van Persie and Angel di Maria missed out at Selhurst Park due to illness and injury respectively, whilst Chris Smalling was subbed off after suffering cramp. Van Gaal admitted the defender wasn’t playing particularly well prior to being hauled off:

“[Smalling] was stumbling and I don’t think he played his best match so that’s why I changed. He had cramp, you could see it because he was pulling at his toes.

Newcastle
Vurnon Anita was withdrawn late on after sustaining an injury during the Magpies draw with West Brom.

QPR
Sandro was unable to feature in today’s trip to City due to issues with his UK Residency visa.

With Mourinho making changes for the WBA game, Would you play Terry ahead of Skrtel still?

Mou said he intends to rest a lot of "tired" first team players against WBA.

Is Cesc tired do we think?

In addition to this Ruben Cheek bloke, which youngsters are in line for a start and which position do they play?

Chelsea are good for a clean sheet against anyone, play Terry worst case scenario is Skrtel comes on for him from the bench if he is rested (Terry and Skrtel owner aswell)

I would play both no matter what. I think any Arsenal defender is better than them but no Sunderland player. Sunderland had the worst winning game in living memory against Everton.

I hear you but Liverpool and Chelsea ain't a sure thing CS games and PVA with two games so 4 points by just showing up gotta play him. Much was said about Hull & Liecester assets and we know how that turned out.

Let us say you are right. PVA gets a cleanie. 4 pts missed. PVA getting smacked by Arsenal. You won't want him to turn up. I think Liverpool and Chelsea have a better chance of a clean sheet than the 2 sunderland games.

Top of the morning folks, bit troubled on who to bring in next, basically an ARS player but not sure who to take out. im leading by 20 points in my cash league, rival has Sanchez, Ospina, Cazorla, PVA at the moment. I have 1 FT and 0.7m ITB. Im willing to take a hit because he always takes hits on DGWs.

    OSPINA
    Ivan Skrtel Toby
    SANCHEZ Hazard LARSSON Silva
    Benteke Kane Aguero

    bench: Krul, Hendo, Dawson, Hutton

Time for Hazard to move on?
    Get rid of Kane?
    Hendo?

    1. Eze Really?

Shame you are short for Tekkers/Giroud. Go for that call with a hit and downgrade Toby to PVA maybe.

  5. Game of Stones

    Panti
    Morgan - Terry - PVA
    Hazard - Sanchez - Silva - Henderson
    Giroud - Aguero - Benteke
    1 FT & 0.9 ITB
Myhill; Albrighton - Bertrand - Duff

    A: Hazard -> Ramsey/Cazorla
    B: Bertrand & Hendo -> Okore & Ramsey/Caz (-4)
    C: Bertrand -> Koscielny
    D: Other?

    Any suggestions, thanks 😀

I'm leaning toward selling Haz as well for the last 2 matches so I'd say A but wait till after tonight's match. Also I rate having 3 Arsenal attackers over having a defender.

It would, but I think the way Arsenal are playing, it would be beneficial with 3 attackers. United vs Arsenal is always a big game, and Sunderland might still be fighting to stay up.

Nothing wrong with the thought process, but all 3 attackers and whou they might be is a question. Choosing the captain is key. Restrict the pain rather than worry about his luck.

Sanchez will probably be my captain, as with most people. Ramsey have looked really good as of late, and if he's fit then I would have him rather than Kos, but could go both ways really. Thanks.

Not sure what I should be going for now for last 2 GWs (which will ultimately determine the use of my 2FTs

Defoe I'm not so sure about. Also watching the Chelsea game last night makes me shipping out Hazard for an Arsenal player may be worth it.

Yeah I was thinking Haz as well. I'm tempted to keep the 2 x Chelsea defenders for the last 2 weeks as I can see them finishing with cleansheets and scoring potential.

vs West Brom (west brom's attack is pretty weak at the moment)

vs. Sunderland (no way Mou doesn't shut this down being last game of season and the fact that Sunderland only team to beat him at the Bridge).

    So with

    Ivan // Skrtel // Dawson // Wolls // Naughton

My defence is a bit of a shambles. With this in mind would you rather

Play Terry - Mou will be shutting this down for next 2 games. I cannot see them not getting 2x clean sheets.

Same starting 3 defenders as me with Skrtel benching prob thinking about it is feel safer with Terry regardless of Chelsea's team lineup

          Bellers Terry PVA
          Sanchez Coutinho Ramsey Silva
          Kun Tekkers Kane

          Myhill Hazard Skrtel Wasil

I Have Pantillimon and PVA, Giru and Sanchez ow.
plan on getting in either Cazorla or Rambo on my FT for Sterling.

Is it worth getting in Gomez (for boyd) -4 a hit?

        My current midfield is
        sanchez hazard Henderson, Sterling, boyd

I'd have to rest either Jagielka Schlupp or Vardy, henderson at worst for Gomez.

So I think I've finally settled on Ozil, Sanchez and Koscielny as my three Arsenal players. Anyone else going down this route?

I had planned for that but I'm just concerned about Welbeck getting some time.

    Would you rather have:

    A) Silva for Swansea (A) and Southampton (H)......or

    B) Hazard for West Brom (A)...will he play? and Sunderland (H)

Hazards mins from now on make me edgy. he's due a seasons rest and too many goals off golden boot to consider it worthwhile. second string Chelsea team about to be rolled out imho.

    Who will score more:
Cazorla vs Swansea, or fellani vs arsenal?

    1. Eze Really?

I think Mettersacker will keep Fellani quiet.

      Seriously?
Swansea cant keep a clean sheet andhave no goals in them and united can barley score 1 without conceding at least 1.

Do a little piece on whether or not to keep Hazard, and if to get him back.

Hazard? theres a Chelsea insulated puffer jacket and gloves with his name on it waiting to get a good outing for the rest of the season.

        Why though?

What I don't get, why would Jose rest him? What's the benefit?
        I think he plays

Jose has said that he will be rested next week and return for the following game, his words, not mine.

I'm thinking Azpi to Kosc for free. Good move?

...or should I make one more change for a -4?

    Migs | Myhill

    Azpi | Clyne | Rose | Schlupp | Naughton

    Sanchez | Silva | Ozil | Coutinho | Phillips

    Aguero | Kane | Vardy

    Willian.

Hes played 2400 minutes for the PL winners, and has 2 goals and 4 assists.

I know he works hard for the team, but this is an absolutely terrible return. Ridiculous even.
