Scout Notes – Gameweek 36 – Sunday

Sergio Aguero runs riot at the Etihad and condemns QPR to Championship football next season. David Silva and Aleksandar Kolarov also serve up double-figure hauls as Manuel Pellegrini’s side turn in their best display of the campaign. Elsewhere, Chelsea and Liverpool play out a 1-1 draw at the Bridge, with captains John Terry and Steven Gerrard grabbing a goal apiece.

Aguero hat-trick delivers final blow to R’s

Manchester City put six unanswered goals past Queens Park Rangers at the Etihad, consigning the London club to relegation after a single campaign in the top-flight. Sergio Aguero stole the headlines by virtue of a hat-trick and two assists, racking up a 23-point haul to move into second spot in the overall Fantasy Premier League (FPL) standings behind Eden Hazard. Meanwhile, a converted free-kick from Aleksandar Kolarov and tap-ins from James Milner and David Silva capped off the hosts’ scoring.

Aguero now has eight goals in five and has netted in five consecutive matches as a result of City’s move to a lone striker system. The Argentine has executed five more shots inside the box (16) than any other forward in the last four Gameweeks, with four more shots on target (10) than next best Harry Kane (ten). A trip to Swansea (one shut-out in five) and a visit from Southampton (no clean sheet in six road matches) look set to continue Aguero’s remarkable scoring spree.

Silva’s 20% ownership were richly rewarded for retaining his services in spite of Chelsea and Liverpool’s recent double Gameweek, with the Spanish playmaker notching one goal, two assists and a couple of bonus points en route to the joint-highest points tally (16) of any midfielder so far this round.

Those managers who plumped for Kolarov off the back of our differential recommendation in Gameweek 34 enjoyed further attacking returns from the marauding Serb. City’s expansive full-back boasts two goals, one assist and three clean sheets in five, boosting his average score across the last four to a whopping 9.5 points per appearance, with his form looking likely to keep Gael Clichy on the bench.

Terry header secures draw amid rotation

Blues boss Jose Mourinho named five changes for their 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge, with Kurt Zouma, Filipe Luis, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Mikel and Loic Remy coming in for Gary Cahill, Cesar Azpilicueta, Nemanja Matic, Juan Cuadrado and Didier Drogba. In his post-match interviews, Mourinho revealed plans to retain Loftus-Cheek in the side for their West Brom trip while also handing starts to academy players Nathan Ake and Izzy Brown. Although the Portuguese boss insisted his first team will return for their home clash against Sunderland on the final day, his admission that Cesc Fabregas, Eden Hazard and Willian have “played too much” places serious doubts over their minutes for Gameweek 37.

John Terry scored his second goal in three starts, netting the opener from a Cesc Fabregas corner. The Chelsea captain now sits second in the FPL defender rankings with a total score of 176, just two points shy of Branislav Ivanovic’s tally. While the Baggies encounter is somewhat of an unknown quantity in light of the planned squad rotation, the Black Cats tie could well harvest another clean sheet for the Blues rearguard, considering the Wearsiders possess the second-worst offence (30 goals scored) in the league.

Gerrard delivers parting message to Blues

The Reds’ draw at Chelsea effectively ended their slim hopes of mounting a late charge for the Champions League berths. Brendan Rodgers’ men were buoyed by a headed equaliser from the talismanic Steven Gerrard just before the break but failed to test Thibaut Courtois with any regularity, only fashioning four shots on target throughout the encounter.

Gerrard has now netted in each of the last two Gameweeks and looks a certain starter for the final couple of matches as he brings the curtain down on his Liverpool career. With upcoming opponents Palace and Stoke far from convincing at the back, the Reds skipper could prove a canny differential for those who are already fully stocked upon Arsenal’s assets and have no other pressing transfers.

Raheem Sterling lays claim to solitary goal in 10 Gameweeks after drawing a blank for four successive matches. The Jamaican-born winger mustered just six shots in his previous four starts, as compared to Philippe Coutinho’s 22 attempts on goal. As such, one would expect a further surge of transfers out for Sterling in the wake of 150,000 managers cashing in last week.

With top four now out of sight for Liverpool, investors in their squad will be mindful of a downturn in form of the like that’s befallen Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton. Nonetheless, managers that snapped up Reds defenders for their double Gameweek 34 may fancy their chances of a clean sheet when they welcome Palace to Anfield next weekend, given that the Eagles have scored one goal in their last four outings.

    Hello Guys already looking forward to next season.. for peeps here who support a Premier League team here , Can I ask realistically which players u would like to see at your club next season..

    For me :
    Arsenal : Reus, Schneiderlin

      Don't think Reus is realistic. Think he'll stay at Dortmund but, even if he did leave, he wouldn't go to Arsenal.

        i would like to differ , Barcelona is not in the market and having already signed Depay , Man Utd will probably not place a bid . Competition is realistically with Man City and PSG .. A lot of Germans at Arsenal

      Chelsea can upto 130mm pounds on transfers this summer apparently after FFP calculations. Assuming we spend 75% of that, I hope we get

      Koke
      Griezman/Stones

      In a dream world, Bale and Varane.

      Why would you want Reus? That's not the kind of player Arsenal needs. You should want Schneiderlin, Hummels and Cavani - all realistic targets, imo

          He just scored a hattrick this week-end :D. He's a beast of a striker, the PSG setup is not good for him, and there's lack of confidence in him in Paris. He's probably going to Juventus next season, where he'll silence all the doubters.

        Wenger has said "not in the market for CB" as Chambers will be playing there long-term.

              That's still not enough. Chambers is not ready for a title winning team, and Mertesacker isn't getting any younger. Wenger should be building depth in all areas; this "that's enough" attitude is the reason Arsenal haven't won, or even really threatened to win, the league for a decade.

                I do agree though that, if they are unable for some reason to strengthen in 3 positions, their priorities should be a DM and a striker.

                        hmm, don't know if a club that hasn't come out of the second round of the CL in 7 years can call himself "top 10" in Europe...but I'd make the same comments if I had gone through what you Arsenal fans have gone through in the past 10 years.

        Gundogan has been awful for months.

        Hummels really isn't all that he is made out to be. Most Bundesliga 'experts' laugh at the idea of him being Utd's defensive saviour.

      personally think Reus is not realistic for Arsenal, though if the player doesn't have a market elsewhere, anything is possible. Either way, doubt Arsenal really need a player in that position. Schneiderlin, on the other hand, is plausible.

      IMHO:

      Chelsea: Pogba (seems very, very difficult though, as he'd most likely sign for Barcelona) or Koke; Varane/Stones; Coentrao (if Luis departs); and a second-choice striker.

      Arsenal

      IN - Schneiderlin, Cech
      OUT - Arteta, Flamini, Campbell, Podolski, Diaby, Rosicky, Szczesny

      Leaving a very strong squad with competition in all positions.

      Cech/Ospina
      Debuchy/Bellerin - Mert/Chambers - Gabriel/Koscielny - Monreal/Gibbs
      Ox/Walcott - Coquelin/Schneiderlin - Ramsey/Wilshere - Sanchez
      Ozil/Cazorla
      Giroud/Welbeck

      Really not sure.

      Potentially keeping knowing that he will probably be rested v West Brom. Might sell him instead of Silva to make way for Giroud.

    7. Amateur Pundit Zan
      • 11 Years

      I sold already.

      The way I see it he is highly likely to get rested and with only one other game left the only reason to keep is if you can afford all your arsenal including Sanchez another way and have a quality replacement to come in for him

        This is my situation

        Ospina
        Terry Fonte PVA
        Hazard Sanchez Hendo Silva
        Kane Aguero Giroud
        Subs- Myhil Schlupp Boyd Bruce

        If Haz didnt play then i would have Schlupp to come in. Not the worst but still not sure

    the Chelsea -Liverpool game nicely summed up just how bad the officiating has been this season. I think its been the worst since the Premier league started.Refs bottling it because its the first minute of the game, missing horror tackles, and even sending off the wrong players. that was embarrassing from mariner yesterday. he was wandering around the pitch like a grandad who forgot to take his medication. wrong cards, wrong player, an absolute shambles. didnt even wave play on for the Fabregas tackle! so technically he hadnt even given a foul for what could be the worst challenge of the season. he just winged it from the get go. And to top it all off doesnt have the guts to send him off for what is the most nailed on yellow card offence in football, tugging a players shirt.I can only assume the jose factor played a part hear. he didnt want to spoil Chelseas day. Fab off would have meant Liverpool probably would have won that game and still been in with a shout of a chance for fourth, albeit a small one. These are highly paid , well trained professionalls and should not be making mistakes like this.

    My rival that is 22 points behind me has Ozil, Gomez and Giroud as differentials:

    Best move for me?

    A) Clyne -> Koscielny
    B) Clyne -> Koscielny, Alderweireld -> PvA (-4)
    C) Kane -> Giroud, Henderson -> Albrighton (5th midfielder) (-4)
    D) Hazard -> Ozil
    E) Kane -> Giroud, Henderson -> Gomez, Clyne -> PvA (-8)

    The last option will cover 2 of my rivals differentials and give me 6 DGWers..

    Before I start painting the back gate. It's probably worth remembering just how far Mourinho is prepared to push the envelope when he decides to tinker and look at players (being as he has said he will for the next game)....In pre season he gave a few games to Ivan as striker, Azpi in midfield...blah, blah, blah....He could do any manner of odd selection next week.

    For those interested, the bet between me and old school is currently sitting at 71-71 so it comes down to -

      Plus you are just five points away from beating Chrstina's score of 75 for the Amazon prize. Depends on who your bench player is should Ramsey not feature.

      Worst case scenario for you is Arsenal concede and Ramsey has a 1pt cameo.

      Here's the hall of fame so far

      Magerost Gwk 11 - 72 pts

      Innsie Gwk 23 - 73 pts

      Christina Gwk 30 - 75pts

        Thanks for this Jonty.

        I changed Ramsey to Ozil in the scout team amidst the injury concerns. The separate bet with OS was the other team (Ramsey over Ozil).

        So I need more than 5 points from Sanchez Ozil and Ospina? 🙂

      Why? Hazard has started every games so far. Why not rest William or Fab?

        well surely that would be a reason in itself to rest Hazard

        Maybe.. hmm.. sucks to have high team value.. I was finally ready to reap the benefits of being able to have hazard, silva and sanchez but now hazard will be rested

          Interesting point, last year I had a quite high TV at this point of the game (obviously the price rise/fall system has changed) but was not as high in the rankings. Now I have a 105 TV and I'm ranked 8k. Team Value is funny like that.

            Yeah I'm ranked 12k but have 110 TV.. but this season has been very kind to those with low TV

        Nothing specifically about him but that Ake, Brown, Loftus etc will play next game, so I think people have concluded that HAzard will be rested

    Is Moreno dropped or not completely recovered? Could't find any specific statements (or at least hints) from BR and the next GW is the worst possible week to have doubts about him. The fan forums aren't very helpful either. Thanks.

        Cheers. Using a transfer on Moreno just to see him back against CPL would really be annoying.
