Goalkeepers – Boaz Myhill
Clean sheets look likely to be thin on the ground this week, so we’ve gone for backline options that should pick up points from elsewhere in the PlayON Scoring Matrix. Our left-field goalkeeper is West Brom’s Boaz Myhill, who has averaged five saves per match (worth 200 points apiece) over the last seven. The 1%-owned budget keeper, who sets you back just 5.7m, faces a Chelsea side that is likely to be rotated and has racked up clean sheets against Liverpool and United in the last three alone. Costel Pantilimon (7.3m, 9% ownership) is our other pick for much the same reason. Sunderland host a Leicester side that are in strong form but the 2-0 win at Goodison suggests the Black Cats are capable of resilient performances, whilst 12 saves over the last three is indicative of the Romanian’s importance.
Defenders – James Collins
Prior to their 1-0 loss at Aston Villa, West Ham had stepped up their resilience and produced back-to-back clean sheets. James Collins looks crucial in the heart of the Hammers defence – the centre-back has served up scores of 1200+ points in PlayON over his previous three appearances and has made 55 clearances over the last four weeks. With visitors Everton failing to score at home to Sunderland last weekend, Sam Allardyce could set out to contain once again as his side continues to struggle for goals – Collins costs 6.5m and currently resides in 6% of PlayON teams. Southampton’s defensive abilities have appeared to drop off in recent weeks but three straight clean sheets at St Mary’s prior to the draw with Spurs suggests the Saints backline can still be function well at home. At 7.1m,Toby Alderweireld is a cheap route into the set-up and the 8%-owned centre-back is likely to be kept busy with Villa’s Christian Benteke, which should add plenty of interception and tackle points to his score.
Midfielders – Jordi Gomez
Sunderland have been galvanised by the threat of relegation, with three wins and a draw in the last five. Jordi Gomez has racked up some impressive PlayON scores in that run – averaging over 1400 points per game, he’s manage five shots on target, an assist and two converted spot-kicks. Available for 7.3m (11% owned) for the home clash against in-form Leicester, the Spanish midfielder will also be busy picking up defensive points, following a total of 20 tackles (worth 50 points apiece) in five appearances. With over 35% ownership, Steven Gerrard (11.6m) is our essential pick ahead of the home tie with Crystal Palace – an encounter that has seen 14 goals in the last three league meetings between these sides. Gerrard has scored in each of the last two and will be bidding farewell to Anfield, meaning he is likely to be provided with plenty of opportunities for a final goal in front of the Kop.
Forwards – Ayoze Perez
Our left-field pick is surprisingly from struggling Newcastle. The Spaniard (7.7m) secured the Magpies’ first point in nine matches with an equaliser against West Brom last weekend taking his tally to two goals in the last three Gameweeks. John Carver’s side visit Loftus Road to play a relegated QPR side that have just shipped six goals at the Etihad and with an ownership of 5%, Perez could be a decent differential as the visitors look to secure their safety. Sergio Aguero has been in blistering form of late. The City forward served up a hat-trick and two assists against QPR last weekend to take his tally to eight strikes in the last five matches. At a price of 15.0m, there’s no surprise to see he’s the most expensive option in PlayON this week – nonetheless, over 45% of managers have already brought him on board ahead of Sunday’s trip to Swansea.
