The Dugout Discussion – West Brom vs Chelsea

Champions Chelsea roll up to West Brom in this evening’s 8pm encounter as Jose Mourinho’s side look to continue a run which has seen them drop just two points in their previous seven road trips.

The main worry heading into this one was, of course, the extent of Mourinho’s rotation. Despite suggesting he was set to start a number of youngsters, the Chelsea manager keeps faith in his big-hitters for the Hawthorns, with Diego Costa returning to lead the line and the likes of Eden Hazard, Cesc Fabregas, John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic all named in the XI. In total, Mourinho makes three changes from the Liverpool match, then, with Costa, Nemanja Matic and Gary Cahill replacing Willian, John Obi Mikel and Kurt Zouma.

With a single goal conceded in their last four, though, the Baggies’ return to resilient ways has been key to clinching their top-flight survival for another season. Tony Pulis also makes three alterations to his starting XI, as James Morrison, Callum McManaman and Saido Berahino come in for Youssuf Mulumbu, Craig Gardner and Victor Anichebe.

Must have been the Cesc owners that kept it below 3.

Tonight is when my ML fight ended.
I was only 20 points behind 2nd and 23 behind first. (I was 90 behind before DGW34 when I wild carded)
I had more DGW players than both, one didn't have Sanchez.
Migs saving that pen v Palace was the first nail.
How have I lost it? First has Azpi. I have Terry. Guess who comes in as Azpi didn't play....?

Azpi is actually a shrewd choice. When he plays, they've more of a chance of keeping a CS, and he often gets bonus. And when he's left out, they concede and you get an autosub.

So many saying that Sterling is not worth the cash that he'd go for in the summer.

    He's only 20. He's pacey and he's English.

Huge huge upside in that transfer for any team that gets him.

Could well be 50m profit after 4-5 years.

You dont pay 40m for potential. You pay that for players who are already world class.

But then again maybe city can afford to take such risks, most clubs cant

Was Hazard world class when he joined Chelsea?

Was Bale world class when he joined Spurs?

Sometimes you need to be the early bird that catches the worm.

Lol bale didnt cost tottenham 40m, and hazard was class when he joined chelsea, just needed to be tested in a big league. Sterling is nowhere near as good as hazard was

Who even imagined that Spurs would sell bale for 85m.

Stranger things have happened in football

Can anyone advise on the best way to play block tactics against my rival, I am 23 points ahead. What is the safest thing to do?

My team = Myhill, Bertrand,Terry, Hutton, Alderweild, PvA, Sanchez, Puncheon, Ozil, Silva, Hendo, Aguero, Kane and Giroud.

His team = De Gea, Azpi, Williams, Fonte, Duff, Wisdom, Cazorla, Sterling, Sanchez, Hendo, Downing, Kane, Aguero and Ings

Hit's are the best way to lose that lead, you teams are quite different so no effective way to block really. Just play normally, might want a GK or defender with an easier fixture.

use 5 transfers for -16 and get
      Ings to gru
      Silva to cazorla
      Ozil to sterling
      Pva to duff
      Betrand to williams

      And you should be fine

You are still ten ahead, but either have same players or defenders from same team, or at least matching team of gk and defender. As long as ddg doesnt get more than 10 points you should be fine

But surely it depends on his captain choice too?

Myhill has now moved on to 5.3 points per game....in context Ivan is the top defender on 4.7....

I really must pay more attention to goalies next year.
