Our series of members articles, assessing the season gone by, continues this evening with a look at Manchester City.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men kicked off the campaign as champions after finishing two points clear of Liverpool in 2013/14 but a poor Easter period, where they lost four times in six matches between Gameweeks 27-32, allowed Chelsea to clinch the crown with three fixtures to spare.

We take time out to delve into their data, assessing the performance of City’s key Fantasy assets in terms of their creative and goal threat output.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I've just been looking at prices. Danny Welbeck more expensive than David Silva.

Not sure if this is news anymore, but Juventus has revealed that they have turned down Barcelona's €80M bid for Pogba. They assure that they have no plans to sell Pogba. They seem to be determined to built the team around him - or to get an even crazier fee. Since the FFP sanctions on City and PSG are officially lifted any moment now, City and PSG should join the race soon.

Apparently it's only the club who has accepted the bid. So, if Southampton bids the same, he could still choose to join Saints. And I'd imagine him choosing rather you than Villa. No offence to Villa, but it will be difficult to make those first couple of good signings to come. They're sportively as far from appealing as it gets for a PL club at the moment.

If Shaqiri signs for Stoke there are 2 things that prevent me from getting him

    1) uncertainty in how often he'll play

That's alright. I'd rather people watched one rather than none. It's not great quality but the passion and attitude of the players can't be faulted. And I think some of the close control and technical ability will surprise some. The GKs are shocking though.

can a anaconda stand like a cobra? he'd probably have a chance coz he'd keep tripping everyone up. if he wrapped round the grizzly and took him out, avoided the shark and snuck off to the corner whilst the rest were fighting then he could be an outside bet

        1. Valar(Keith)
          • 16 Years

Actually it'd probably be Tyson that wins.. He'd make friends with the bear(both of em have a similar vocabulary) who'd complain to him the importance of playing dead to avoid being eaten. This would lead to Paul Bearer placing him in the coffin. This would anger the undertaker, which would make him lose concentration and get eaten by the shark. In the meantime bruce lee and tony jaa will get entangled in a web of elbows and knees and fly out of the ring together. Out of nowhere The Fonz will appear and literally jump the shark out of the ring. John Nash(who's refereeing) divides the 25 feet anaconda by the 12 ft bear and makes a fraction.. thus eliminating both. At this point tyson appears and knocks the lion out. However, mistaking the crocodile for shoes he steps into it and loses.

the undertaker would have the advantage of his manager paul bearer outside the ring helping him out, such as grabbing the anacondas tail or throwing ashes from a hearn into bruce lee's eye's

ha yeah didn't think of that! the anaconda would be prancing around at the end gloating, milking the applause, everyone else dead, then the undertaker would rise again and tombstone him!

True, "anaconda, Rest. In. Peaacceeeeee." My favourite wrestler of all time, I dont even follow it anymore but I keep an eye on Wrestlemania each year and was bitterly disappointed when the streak ended.

Can I have one RMT, please? 🙂

Ruddy - Schmeichel (in case it's not more than 9.0)
    Terry (7.0) - Jenkinson (5.0) - O'Shea (4.5) - Naugthon (4.5) - Elphick (4.5)
    Hazard (11.5) - Depay (9.0) - Henderson (7.5) - Ayew (6.0) - Ritchie (5.5)
    Aguero (13.0) - Diouf (7.0) - Deeney (6.0)

    Exactly 100.0

Depay - might share minutes with other players.
      Ayew - not fancy Montero?
      Aguero - extended holiday.

      I like your Diouf pick.

Depay is class for all United players, especially for Young. Can't even compare them. I expect atleast 15 goals and 10 assists from him next season.
Ayew should be more nailed on, IMO. Could play as striker also.
Aguero - Remember last season's GW 1 when he played 8 mins and still scored a goal?

Damn it. The most important thing is to keep both Rhodes and Gestede. Bad thing is Cairney departure. You need RB, maybe CB, CM, AM and winger.

                  Steele
New RB - Henley - Duffy - Olsson
New winger - Lowe - New CM - Conway
                  Rhodes - Gestede

Henley RB and will probably start the season there after good end to last year. CB will be 2 from Hanley/Killa/Duffy.

We desperately need CMids. Williamson tries hard but no where near good enough

I mean Grant Hanley on CB 🙂 Can't remember every time, their last names are so similar 😀 Still need 2 defenders in case of injury or fatigue.

Yeah Lowe is back fit. Good cover too as he play play RB and anywhere across midfield really if needed. I think Marshall or Conway might end up going too

Me too, as he already adapt to PL.

But if Ayew listed as Mid (which he most likely will) and play as Striker, he would be a nice OOP.

Perhaps, the pre-season can be a good indication.

      Dreadful.

      Keepers aren't the best.
Defence isn't bad but it's too expensive.
Front 8 is pretty shocking as well and I think there'll be much better options than everyone but Aguero, Hazard and Richie.
Only 2 captain options as well.

It sounds really mean out of context but it's 'DIE ADEBAYOR DIE'. I can't remember exactly how it started but I think it was to do with Adebayor not doing something for about 10 weeks and scoring around 20 when everyone sold him. Someone posted DAD as hyperbole and it stuck.

Just seen Soton's record signing Osvaldo has had his contract terminated. He signed for 14.5 mill but the best guess is the whole sorry episode has cost Soton 25 mill for 13 appearances and 3 goals...That's a whisker short of 2.0 million per game, or 8.3 million per goal...!!!...

That must put him firmly in the top ten worst signings ever...or is he the top ?

He must be near the top, definitely. Fortunately the mad man of a CEO that was responsible for that balls up has long left. He was also responsible for the Gaston flop too. Fortunately, the new regime under Les Reed is much smarter about who it signs.

Just curious, how do you guys normally pick your Defence at the start of the season?

Just wondering how much emphasis you base rotation on. Whether you do it for a couple of players or look for players with easy fixtures when your pricier defenders have hard games.

5.5, 5.0, 5.0/4.5, 4.5 4.0. The 5.5m defender will play every game and the others will rotate with each other. The members ticker was very helpful as a visual aid when looking for good rotations.

Top of the season ticker for the first ten games..(Soton for the past two seasons).
      Most reliable defence...Chelsea.
Whoever Tony Pulis is in charge of.
Best two rotating cheapies for easy fixtures...(no more than 4.5).

You won't go far wrong with that.

Sounds like a good plan, though if say Southampton & a Pulis player have a rubbish fixture then your 2 cheapies won't work as 1 of them will always have a poor fixture.

I'm just thinking of having just the 1 cheapie & picking my Defense in line with decent fixtures etc... from there.

            (3 * 75) 225

            (8 * 10) 80

            add the 5

Yeah, just thinking it would be very nice for FPL. His wages are probably too much for most clubs to pay. That's a bit of a problem with star players when their clubs want to get rid of them - reason why they have to move to somewhere like Dubai or China.

It depends what you use as your criteria to define 'big'. And no one will agree on them. So it's really a futile exercise. As someone who regularly visits Nottingham, I'm fed up with Forest fans living on the successes of the Clough era.

History is what makes football clubs..doesn't matter whether a team won a trophy in 1970 or 2007. A trophy is a trophy. Everything counts.

Well i think there is a point when it becomes fairly irrelevant tbh. Like Rovers dominated the Cup back in 1800 and whatever, but Forest's achievements? They were very recent. There will be hundreds if not thousands of their fans at the City ground for their first home game next month who also saw those European successes

That's what makes Liverpool the best.

United are the only other contenders for the title of the most successful club in the history of English football.

But we shouldn't belittle other big clubs which have also had many successes, such as Chelsea, City, Arsenal, Spurs and Everton.

Aye there's nothing definitive. But I'd definitely say history is a big part of the criteria. That's where the 'Sleeping Giant' saying comes from. A team like Forest have plenty of future potential if they sort theirselves out.

Would be a loss to the Premier League to lose such a good player. Last year may not have gone well for him but he has great talent and may be back to his best next season.

I think people forget just how great shearer was a Blackburn. his stats are ridiculous there! I remember that 7-1 norwich game where he was sensational. still think Ronaldo is the best player the prem has ever seen. that 42 goal season when utd won prem and CL, he was immense. then id say henry 2nd best

Big Dick using his contacts in seeking to pick up quality van ginkel on loan,
buying coates (rather than loaning him again )will give more flexibility
Blunderland are not going to pull up trees but keeping dick on is a good move to help them avoid relegation again
