Saturday’s events get underway with a clash between Southampton and Everton at St Mary’s this lunchtime. Both sides are looking for a first win of the new campaign after registering 2-2 draws with Newcastle and Watford last weekend.

The Saints proved a reliable source of defensive returns at home last year, chalking up 11 clean sheets in front of their own fans and conceding a mere 13 times – only Chelsea (nine) proved more miserly.

After netting twice at St James’ Park last week, they’ll be looking to take advantage of a Toffees backline devoid of the injured Leighton Baines. Certainly, given that the visitors managed just two clean sheets on their travels last season, those backing the Saints at both ends of the pitch will fancy their chances of getting amongst the points.

    Nonsense, nonsense, nonsense.

    Everton fan here wanting to confront those talking about 'Southampton second season syndrome' and Cedric and Mane out already, stupidity. As a team I feel we always have the explosiveness to take on teams within the top 6-8 and produce results like that.

    Mane today looked lively and but for the fantastic Howard save in the first half would have grabbed a goal.

    Everton's next three matches are Citeh, Chelseh and Spurseh. Do you think enough peeps are going to be dumb enough to hope on the Barkley wagon to make his price rise?

    Not many good 6.5's about. Only Barkley and Cabaye really but Cabaye is a 6.6 now
