There were no new victims over the weekend, and no red cards either, but the Suspension Tightrope sleeps for no man, and, after a flurry of cards, it duly snapped up a glut of unwilling funambulists to head into Gameweek 8.

Villa’s Ciaran Clark, Sunderland centre-half Seb Coates and Leicester left-back Jeffrey Schlupp all survived the week unscathed, though the former pair’s causes were helped by the fact they were both unused subs for respective clashes with Liverpool and Man United.

That trio were joined by four new protagonists, who all picked up their fourth cautions of the season in the Gameweek 7 match ups.

The first couple were served up in an action-packed lunchtime clash at White Hart Lane, as Spurs overcame table toppers City with an energetic display that saw five of their front six players booked once they took the lead in the second-half. Goalscorer Eric Dier and his centre midfield partner Dele Alli took their tallies to four for the season for fouls on Fernandinho and Patrick Roberts respectively. Dier has already been drafted in by over 42,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers since the weekend, making him the fourth more sought-after player of the Gameweek.

Next to don the soft shoes and prepare for an acrobatic stint was Sunderland’s Billy Jones. The right-back is no stranger to these parts, with eight bookings in two of the last three seasons, and at least four cards in all of the last five years, despite his failure to secure a regular role at West Brom or Sunderland in that time. Jones scythed down Memphis Depay to earn himself a first taste of the ’15/16 Tightrope.

Finally, the seventh of the current crop of Tightrope walkers – and perhaps one of the most familiar faces of recent times – was Newcastle’s Jack Colback. The combative midfielder joined the party after a first-half booking picked up for a foul on Loic Remy. Fortunately for Jack, injury interrupted his second-half, so he’ll have to wait until at least next week to see if he can add to his growing collection of cards.

True fans of the Tightrope will be more than aware of Colback’s “previous”. Nurtured under the wing of Lee Cattermole at Sunderland, the ginger-haired battler learned quickly from his mentor, picking up a single card in his debut season, upgrading that to three bookings the next term, then five in ’12/13 and seven in his final season with Cattermole on Wearside. A switch to neighbours Newcastle saw Colback blossom into a full-scale disciplinary menace and, in ’14/15, he duly upped his output to 12 cautions – a total bettered only by former team-mate Cattermole (14) last time out. Four cards in just under 650 minutes this season is no surprise, and puts him high on the list of those expected to fall into a ban in his next outing.

Below those players, there are 16 faces currently sitting on three yellows. Branislav Ivanovic, Jose Fonte, Oriol Romeu, Jonjo Shelvey, Yohan Cabaye and Erik Lamela are the new names, having collected a third caution of the campaign over the last two days.

There are no newly-suspended players so far this week, with only tomorrow’s Hawthorns clash between West Brom and Everton remaining.

Arsenal’s Gabriel is available for selection again, having served a one-match ban in yesterday’s 5-2 win at Leicester. Three players still remain suspended for Gameweek 8. Diego Costa, Kevin Mirallas and Valon Behrami all serve the last of three-bans against Southampton, Liverpool and Bournemouth respectively.

      Pelle to Vardy?
      Seriously, you could always downgrade Pelle and upgrade Ighalo.
      Barring that, you would have to lose Hazard for KdB, or something like that.

    What is the rule regarding price changes during the week you use your wildcard? Let's say I do transfers for all risers throughout the week, and then right before the deadline I activate my wildcard. Do I get the sell value on these players if I transfer them out in the same week or does the wildcard negate any profit? For exams, what if I transfer someone like Vardy on who rises .2 this week. Can I sell him with my wildcard before the deadline and bank the .1?

      The only difference is that your transfers count towards price changes whereas WC transfers don't.

        You can get free money for Vardy in this case but normally you want to keep these players.

          Understand that but just trying to figure out the best time to use wildcard. It's probably when there are many risers that you want to get in.

            Use it to score the most points over the season. Money only gets you so many points.

        But is it possible to trick the system by doing regular transferred thought the week on risers and then using my wildcard before the deadline?

          Yep, I wouldn't worry about it too much though. One person's nti isn't going to have a noticeable impact on price changes.

      yes but if the players can rise 0,2M/week, they must be good picks so you hardly sell them and make profits
      players you sell on WC often played badly before and so couldnt rise 0,2M/week anyway

    Not many on form strikers apart from Vardy (which I have) with good fixtures within Gomis price range. So keep Gomis, or transfer him out for a hit?

      keep

    2. Walsh

      I'd probably rather keep Gomis rather than send him on his way for a hit...but he'd be a priority to shift out soon I think. As much as I hate Pelle...he looks an option right now. And possibly Lukaku soon. Probably a good idea to find a million somewhere else to upgrade him soon though.

        • 10 Years

        0ITB only Diouf/Bojan/Sakho/Rondon are within my affordable price, but none of their fixtures are better than Gomis, so I still prefer to keep. But it is difficult for me to upgrade him to Lukaku. Cheers for the advice.

      Just kept him thru the first price drop. Likely to keep him for TOT and also STO if the Swan & him are doing ok.

      A hit means the replacement has to do at least a goal to equal point and I'm not sure where a brace is likely.

          Mane captain against Leicester is what I'm looking at if Aguero has an average 6-7 point return against Newcastle. Of course, not owning Sanchez or Hazard makes that decision easier.

          Still can't believe I sold him for a hit to get Ayew two GW's ago 😯 . I agree though, Mane has Eriksen levels of inconsistency/unpredictability, rarely performs according to fixtures IMO. Makes him a poor skipper in my eyes.

      Indeed. I'd lean towards Mane though. He is a lot more nailed than Tadic, yes he is benched on the odd occasion but there always seems to be an explanation, e.g. against WBA he arrived back very late from int. duty. Tadic does have pens but has had injuries issues both at the start of this season and last season, and he is capable of drifting out of games whereas Mane always seems to be in the thick of it.

      I think Tadic also tends to get subbed off a lot earlier imo. For example, if Soton are down I feel that Koeman would be hesitant to take off Mane or Pelle but would be glad to bring Jrod on for Tadic/Davis

          Yep, that said I think Tadic still is a very good under the radar option.

          Btw, your Cabaye on pens prediction was correct! Think he's that Palace mid of choice now, but I don't want to sell any of my midfielders at the moment!

            Yeah Tadic is an interesting option. Going to have to mull it over deeply this week. The extra funds is very nice...very tough one. Plus have already had a bite of the Mane apple in my GW1 team this season and he burned me.

        No problem. The template of the bottom 50 is

        Myhill

    Worried you'll have nothing footie enough to do during the international break... join my league!

    My Fantrax draft league that starts each season during 2nd international break about to start this Sunday after the games... entering season 3.

    20 team "man's league" with 3 divisions. Now filling spots for 3rd division. Promotion and relegation between divisions as well as a Champion's League are in the format.

    This is a "slow draft" to accommodate everyone around the world joining, and draft typically takes up about 10 days of the international break.

    Active managers who will continue to use free agency and trading throughout the season are sought.

      Looks good to me. Personally I think I would rather the Myhill & Aldy/Dier combo if wanting a TOT defender. I am considering wildcarding also this week and have a similar team. I'd consider triple MCY (KDB/Silva) given their fixtures and possibly a CHE player also.

        With Aguero and Sturridge upfront, cash is problem to upgrade midfield... I'd rather have sanchez than a manC mid right now. If one of my premium striker doesn't deliver I still can downgrade him and spread the money in midfield

          Yeah, it's either Sturridge or a MCY mid I guess and I totally get the Sturridge move. Only concern for me is fixtures - 3 tough away games in the next 4 vs 3 plum home games in the next 4 for MCY.

          Which of my moves below do you think look best? Am also considering Studge

    Given I plan to WC after GW10 and SOT have 2 tricky away (che/liv) games in the next 3, which of these looks best?

    A) Wilson -> Vardy
    B) Mane -> Walcott
    C) Mane & Pelle -> Cabaye & Sturridge (-4)
    D) Mane & Pelle -> KDB & Vardy (-4)

    Ruddy
    Kolarov, Bellerin, Huth
    Sanchez, Pedro, Mane, Mahrez, Sinclair
    Aguero, Pelle

    Rudd, Coates, Targett, Wilson

                This is a good question. He's banned for the CL so there's a chance he could start vs United. However, Wenger does normally stick with the form players so I expect Walcott to be fairly nailed on now until his form drops.

        I thought that at first but given the WC plans I'm not so sure. Wilson can stay on the bench this week and the upside of the likes of KDB/Silva given their next few fixtures is tempting.

          I prefer to have Vardy than play Sinclair, Vardy is on form and good fixtures ahead, and his price is going to rise, so will give you additional fund when you WC, this is something KdB/Silva not likely to provide you.

            True. Would you still play both Mane and Pelle this week over Sinclair? Don't see Saints getting more than 1 at the bridge whereas Stoke look fairly pourous and Sinclair is on penos.

        Cheers Zasa. Pedro has 2 home games up next but I agree he is on thin ice. Sinclair is almost certainly out when I WC in GW11.

          I wouldn't write off Southampton against anyone, especially Chelsea who are letting in goals for fun. Sinclair has to go, the attacking prongs will morph into Greilish and Gestede and Sincliars game time will come into question especially once gueye and Veretout settle. if you are that desperate for some Villa clag in your team get Amavi or Gestede in.

      Mourinho is right. NEW is a good team that only shows up when playing top teams, and somehow rolls over when facing weaker ones.

        If you have a wildcard available like I currently do it allows a lot more flexibility with who you can bring in. Those next 3 fixtures look very nice for a punt on a Norwich player however I'm not sure of Jerome is that good of a pick with Mbokani lurking.

    My defence of Gomez Richards Azpi Kola and Darmain needed fixing for weeks but each week my FT had to be used to cover an injury or make a transfer not to fall behind to a Martial bandwagon. This week it's Wilson > Vardy.

    My old school brain also refuses to contemplate hits for defenders. As a result I've lost ground due to the Myhill/WBA, Francis, Janmaat plays.

    Am I on the right track to avoid hits or is it now time to take one?

        Merseyside some predict goals but I see tough low scoring battle with Everton this time around and Spurs looking tough to break down as well thus far. only realistic option to swap as have Sanchez, Payet, Yaya, Mahrez in the other spots..

          Thing is Liverpool's defense is shambolic. They may just be more attacking to compensate for that. All sorts of nonsense going through my head because of Sturridge being back.

            It's funny. LIV were defensively okay, winning 1-0s, until Gomez is dropped.

        well. I don't want to take the hit but Wilson injury and coming price drop eventual as well almost forcing the issue.

    Sakho or Diouf to replace Wilson?

      For some reason am really liking Sakho. I just love Payet and feel he will really benefit Sakho and his position so nailed with so little competition.

      Feel West Ham to be a very good team this year who will continue to perform well so like the double up myself.

        Sakho seems to max out at one goal per match. Diouf is more capable of a brace.

      Vardy if you don't have him. Diouf if between them, little bit better next 6 GWs.

        Why is everyone so convinced Vardy over Sakho and others at that price.

          Most on form striker with that price, and good fixtures ahead. Can you find anyone better?
