Ashley Williams’ second league goal in the last four seasons hands Swansea a much-needed victory over Watford. The Hornets, meanwhile, fall to a fourth successive defeat as the goals continue to dry up for Odion Ighalo.

Williams wins it for Swans

In front of an audience that included their newly-installed head coach, Francesco Guidolin, Swansea City propelled themselves out of the relegation zone with an attritional 1-0 victory over Watford. Ashley Williams emerged as the match-winner with his first goal of the campaign, steering the Swans to just their second triumph in 12 league match-ups. The Wales international has now scooped 17 out of a maximum 18 bonus points during his side’s six clean sheets this term, cementing his status as their prime Fantasy asset at the back – encouragingly, four of those shut-outs have arrived in the six matches since Garry Monk’s departure. With Crystal Palace (five successive blanks) and West Bromwich Albion on the agenda over the next three Gameweeks (eve, wba, CRY), Williams could attract investment at the 4.8 mark.

Ki Sung-yueng delivered attacking returns for just the second time this term with the assist for William’s goal. The ex-Celtic recruit proved to be a profitable differential in the budget bracket last season – notching eight goals and one assist – but has mustered just five shots on target in 20 appearances this time around. Andre Ayew (7% ownership) remains the most popular route into Swansea’s midfield, but Gylfi Sigurdsson (two goals in three, penalty duties) has arguably edged ahead of the Ghanaian winger in that internal duel. Ayew retained a role up front last night but with Guidolin set to have the final say in team matters, it remains to be seen whether he’ll tinker with Curtis’ tactics.

Watford’s slump continues

Watford slumped to their fourth consecutive defeat last night and are now winless in five matches. The Hornets have suffered from a major drop in form of their strike duo, Odion Ighalo and Troy Deeney, who’ve mustered just four shots on target between them over the last four Gameweeks. Although the former’s 40% ownership will certainly be weighing up their options in the wake of three successive blanks, Watford’s back-to-back home clashes (NEW, CHE) could serve as a catalyst for the 6.4-priced frontman, who had previously scored in six straight league outings prior to the goals drying up.

Is there a good members article speculating on the upcoming double gameweeks? I remember some really good stuff in a pre-season article.

Annoyingly, you have to go back and search through the old articles to find the hot topics with the good stuff in. I bookmarked this hot topic from Balders which might be useful to you though.

My advice would be to plan with the flexibility to adapt your plans to the best and worst case scenario in mind re the DGWs, rather than put all your eggs in one basket. Holding a FT this week is crucial in my opinion, as we will know between GW23 and 24 whether the DGW will be GW25. If it is GW25 you can start loading up on the DGW'ers, but if it turns out the DGW is likely to be later in the season (i.e. if the DGW25 isn't announced and the applicable teams go through in the FA Cup) it will be a case of thinking about removing some of the expendable DGW'ers instead to ensure you are able to plan for GW27 when the blanks occur.

Good morning fine folk. Some help please with this. Go on, run riot.:

    Butland, Ruddy
    Toby, Ivanovic, Moreno, Francis, Huth
    KDB, Ozil, Mahrez, Alli, Payet
    Lukaku, Kane, Igahlo

Trailing a bit in ML after bossing first half of the season - but resisting urge to wildcard yet. What would you do to this team?

Seems only way to get Kun in is to take out Igahlo and KDB, and get a 4.9 mid. So also looking at more left-field options like Rooney instead.

    Help would me magnificent.

You don't have a strong midfield 4 at the moment though, you have 2 heavy hitters and 3 budget players.

At the very least I would want him to make a cameo before I put him in.
I dont think he will play this GW as Wenger surely will not risk him again(will he?) and he is quite important for their title race.
When fit he is another Kun, essential.
Ighalo has 1 more GW looking good in the next 4.
Austin might be a good differential for Ighalo...
Again wait till he plays as he was layed out at QPR over something.

sadly i don't think watford did much worse yesterday than they have been all season.
they regularly verge on the unwatchable, it's like west brom minus the set-piece expertise but plus ighalo. it's a minor miracle that a win yesterday would have lifted them to 8th. the difference yesterday was swansea didn't make a big error for watford to pounce on, the one time they came close when a back pass found ighalo williams bailed them out. the point here being watford don't score moves, they pounce on mistakes. the midfield may as well not exist, they just get bypassed with hopeful balls towards prison boy up top. capoue attacks with running and watson either sits deep or his feet get championship tourettes when he crosses the half way line. abdi has gone from sexy playmaker to professional back-tracker with the change of manager.

you can count on one hand how many moves they've scored from this season. there is only so much making something out of nothing than ighalo can do. it sort of works because deeney is great and keeping stuff alive/forcing opposition to panic and ighalo is great at pouncing on anything even half loose.

not panicking at the recent run as 3 of the matches were against chelsea, man city and tottenham but i really think it's just a case of running out of luck for a bit, and probably energy too. it's almost the same XI weekly putting in incredible shifts because they don't keep the ball! i just hope amrabat likes looking up and defending

Last night's was the first full Watford game I've watched this season and I did think they majorly lacked creativity. I think Capoue and Watson looked one of the lease dynamic midfield combos I've seen recently. Playing Behrami and Jurado as wide midfielders didn't do it for me either; both lack any sort of pace and Jurado definitely seems wasted that far wide and most of the shots that he did get away were speculative at best. Nyom looked poor defensively and offensively, with his touch letting him down time and time again. Ditto for Paredes when he came one. Ake was slightly better, and Britos and Cathcart were fine, with Gomes looking solid.

The big question for me is the nearest GW: do I keep Ighalo and be threatened by Lukaku owners - or get Lukaku for a hit and be threatened by everyone else giving Ighalo the last chance.

If Moreno and Jagielka both have a DGW in week 25, which one do you want, or do you want both?

Even if Moreno has a DGW I think I want rid, he will get 4 points max in the DGW then you'll still be stuck with him after

Yep, been staring at those stats for a while. Doesn't really help if he isnt doing it regularly. Yes he may score one week, but it's been about 10 weeks of saying that so the pay-off isnt going to be very good.

What are people thinking about Matt Targett?

Worth considering him? Is he likely to keep his position?

5 out of 7 matches he started, were CS for SOT.
SOT got 8 CS in total.

SOT short term fixtures are not great, but after utd and ars the fixtures take a turn for the better.
I'm thinking VvD > Targett just to free up some cash...

Would it be better to wait 1-2 GWs to get a clearer picture of Targett situation?
The downside is that his price will go up a bit.

      Sold

But, I think this question depends on
      A) price of purchase
      B) your current rank or minileague status

I bought a bit late and I'm chasing rank. Gambling on dropping a player owned by 65% of managers is a calculated risk

The price of purchase seems to be holding people back big time (including myself as have had him since week 1). It shouldn't though, if you can afford an alternative who you think is good, and aren't too worried about having to get Mahrez back.

It must be quite liberating to be in this position. The only way that you can be truly objective about whether he should stay or go.

The Wimbledon Doubles results came in last night with Ashley Williams turning at least a couple of ties on their head, 20 teams are now through to the second round. Well done to those who are through and commiserations to those who've had an early exit from the competition. 12 matches go to the third set this gameweek.

Any thoughts? 2 FT 0.6 ITB

    De Gea, Henny
    Bellerin, Kolorov, Zouma, Smith, Simpson
    Alli, Ozil, KDB, Mahrez, Hoolahan
    Kun (C), Lukaku, Giroud

    I'm thinking:
    A. Kolorov+Alli -> Targett + Payet.
    B. Hoolahan -> Howson and hold a FT
    C. Alli + Kun -> Payet + Kane
    D. Just sort out defence. I've had Kolorov since GW1 so reluctant to sell. Zouma doing nothing for me either. Suggestions?!?

I had C in mind before the weekend, but think I've ruled that out now 🙂
