We head out to the Weekly Shop now, assessing the player lists of our partner games to highlight the likely targets that will make up our own weekly squads.

As always, the player analysis is split into two sections: I’ll break down the key targets that no squad can do without in “Better Buys”, before seeking out those one-shot “Poundstretcher” prospects that can provide us points, whilst freeing up funds.

For this week’s selection, we’re focusing on the FantasyBet and DraftKing player lists.

Better Buys

Although the Stoke defence has been underwhelming of late, with a single clean sheet in eight matches, the potential return of Ryan Shawcross should boost their prospects of returns. Even if their skipper fails to make it, we reckon the Potters should still manage to keep out a visiting Aston Villa that have blanked in three of their last four matches. Jack Butland (FantasyBet 4.5m, Draftkings $4,100) offers a safe route into the hosts backline and is joint-top with Petr Cech for total saves (88) this season.

Despite conceding against Arsenal and Manchester City in their previous couple of outings, Leicester City have to be backed at home to Norwich this time out. The Foxes have five clean sheets in the last eight Gameweeks, whilst their visitors have failed to net in five of their last seven away matches. Christian Fuchs’ crossing from open play and set-piece duties have provided three assists already this term, making the Austrian full-back a sound option in both FantasyBet (4.5m) and Draftkings ($4,600).

It’s tempting to invest heavily in a Spurs side that host Swansea City, though it’s worth bearing in mind that the North London club have struggled in post-Europa league matches this campaign and face Fiorentina tomorrow night. Dele Alli remains at the bargain price of 5.0m in FantasyBet (and $6,100 in Draftkings) and with two goals and three assists in his last four appearances, the midfielder is an obvious one to consider. Mauricio Pochettino is likely to put the onus on winning the league match with the potential of a title push on the cards and Harry Kane’s (FantasyBet 9.5m, Draftkings $8,300) five goals in as many matches also makes it difficult to ignore. The Spurs top scorer is expected to wear a protective mask to cover a broken nose on Sunday afternoon.

Jamie Vardy (FantasyBet 7.5m, Draftkings $7,400) faces a Norwich side that arrives in relegation form, having picked up a single point in six league outings. The Foxes frontman is likely to be a very popular pick this week across the games – after a six-week barren spell, Vardy appears to have rediscovered his eye for goal and netted four goals in as many fixtures.

Poundstretchers

West Brom’s Ben Foster (FantasyBet 4.5m, Draftkings $3,700) has regained the keeper’s jersey from Boaz Myhill and looks a good value option in Draftkings in particular, having produced 18 saves in four starts since his return (with a point available for each save). Those shot-stopping abilities could help bring a third clean sheet in five outings for Tony Pulis’ side as they host a struggling Crystal Palace.

Kevin Wimmer (FantasyBet 4.5m, Draftkings $2,100) has earned two clean sheets in three starts for Spurs as a result of Jan Vertonghen’s absence. While the Austrian may not offer the same sort of attacking threat as his defensive team-mates, that bargain price is too good to overlook at home to Swansea on Sunday afternoon.

In DraftKings it’s worth considering Southampton centre-backs as budget options if you’re backing the Saints to keep a seventh consecutive clean sheet. Chelsea travel to St Mary’s having failed to score at Watford in their last road match but have shown some ruthless form since, putting five past both Newcastle and a weakened City team in the FA cup. Virgil van Dijk (FantasyBet 5.5m, Draftkings $3,000) and Jose Fonte (FantasyBet 5m, Draftkings $2,600) aren’t going to be providing many crosses, one of the main traits we look for in a DraftKings defender, but the duo could turn out to be effective enablers if funds are proving tight.

West Ham’s encounter with Sunderland at Upton Park affords us some tempting options. Aaron Cresswell (FantasyBet 5.5m, Draftkings $4,100) is not the most budget-friendly defender but still offers value – the full-back’s attacking forays have delivered a goal and three assists so far this season. Michail Antonio (FantasyBet 5m, Draftkings $4,900) has scored three in four at home and his five assists in nine outings indicates why the midfielder is rivaling the more expensive Dimitri Payet (FantasyBet 7.5m, Draftkings $8,000) in our attentions.

We also fancy Stoke pair Marko Arnautovic (FantasyBet 6.0m, Draftkings $4,700) and Xherdan Shaqiri (FantasyBet 6.5m, Draftkings $5,300) do bring in the points at home to basement-dwellers Villa. Arnautovic looks in line to recover from illness and has already notched against the likes of Chelsea, City and United at home, whilst Shaqiri grabbed an assist in the 3-1 win at Bournemouth last time out.

For cheap striker options we’re turning to the match at Vicarage Road. Bournemouth travel to Watford with both the promoted sides offering strikers that won’t break the bank. Cherries new boy Benik Afobe (FantasyBet 6m, Draftkings $4,700) has scored in both his away appearances since making a winter move from Wolves. For the hosts, Troy Deeney’s (FantasyBet 5m, Draftkings $5,500) brace against Crystal Palace reminded us of his spot-kick duties and the Hornets skipper could be a viable budget alternative to the out-of-sorts Odion Ighalo (FantasyBet 5.5m, Draftkings $6,600).

These are the contenders for my weekly contest lineups heading into the midweek fixtures. Tomorrow I’ll also bring you up to date on my progress in FantasyBet, as I continue my quest for profit in the 2015/16 campaign.

After 30 is played right? This what you mean?

My current plan is transfer in players from now until GW 34 that will play DGW 34 and blank 35.

Use Triple C chip in 34, WC 36, BB 37

      1. If you are WC'ing GW36, surely you want players that aren't blanking in GW35?

Ah I re-read my comment and see the confusion. I meant blank GW 35, not players blanking in 35. My bad.

I think this plan is best coz if you WC pre 34 it may be difficult to fully utilize the DGW 36. What you reckon?

              1. I'm currently on the exact plan as you - just waiting for the fixtures. I get the feeling though they aren't going to announce the majority of the DGW fixture dates until after GW30 (the FA Cup quarter finals) as any replays may screw the fixture list up further, and GW30 and GW34 are a long way apart time-wise with the international break between those weeks as well.

Ya it's frustrating no knowing but some teams have 2 DGW's to play so maybe stock up on those players. Although they are a pity, Liverpool are one of those teams and will play in the blank GW 35 also. Should Sturridge hit form and if he can stay fit (big if there 🙂 ), he could be a great addition to anyone's team.

Current GK's are DDG & McCarthy

    A) Play DDG GW 27 - 29 (if fit) and transfer in a GW 30 GK who will also have a DGW 34 (if known)
    B) Transfer McCarthy to Forster (great rotation with DDG and solves GW 30 & 34)
    C) Just get rid of DDG for Butland or Forster

    Thoughts?

Sorry mate I don't quite get your comment?

You saying play without a GK this week (GW 27) if DDG is out? What is the reference to 39?

Sorry I meant 30. So if dave is fit just keep him for now, and come GW 30 you can get a new GK if you have an FT or even playing with 10 isn't the end of the world.

Ah got ya mate. Ya I see your point. Think there's clean sheets there for GK's this week though (Butland) so would be a shame not to be amongst it.

Hopefully DDG will be fit and pick up a few save points against the gunners.

That is valuable info. I need Wimmer for next 4-5 GWs. After that I will sell him for someone with DGW34.

Fielding 11 for this gameweek but no subs...and two (Targett, Walker) iffy defenders as far as rotation. Worth taking a hit to ship Firmino for a hit to Eriksen or Arnie?

    Rest of team:
    Butland (Elliot)
    Huth, Dann, Walker, Targett (Kola)
    Mahrez, Alli, Payet, Ozil (Firmino)
    Ighalo, Varday(c) (Aguero)

Evening all, could do with a bit of advice on this:

    Butland
    Ward Toby Cedric Azpi Simpson*
    Mahrez Ozil Alli Payet Firminio*
    Kane Vardy Kun*

A bit annoyed at the Simpson red card messed my planning up considerably. I have done Lak>Vardy already and have 1FT left, what to do?

    A. Bring in Fuchs for Simpson. Bit of a waste of a FT but plum fixtures coming up and wouldnt mind getting a points getting DEF in, as Toby aside my back line has little goal threat.

B.Firmino out for Arnie. This seems more like a one week punt than two as next week it will be between Arnie and Alli. Form will decide I guess but I find both moves all a bit meh!

    Any options I'm missing?

    Cheers chaps.

I think both of those moves are decent, Fuchs more long term, but Arnie higher upside short term. Cedric could be a 1 pointer again so might be wise to bench him and get Fuchs or Arnautovic in.

Thx chaps, Cedric is another concern grrr.

Considering your comments now and I think I fancy more from Fuchs than Arnie on balance. Could then hold Firmino for 2 weeks then ship for Siggy.

Lie defense will be playing for me for the next 4 or 5 weeks no doubt, Fuchs over Huth right?

    Hi all,

Not checked in for a while and noticed that GW30 fixtures have been updated with 6 going ahead.
Barring extreme weather, are this fixtures all bankers for that GW now or might we still lose 1 or 2?
I am sure this has been asked muchly, so thanks in advance

Bit of advice lads? 0 ITB 1 FT

    Gomes
    Williams VVD Simpson* Evans*
    Sanchez Payet Mahrez Stanislas Silva*
    Kane Vardy Aguero*

Thinking of doing the following -4

    (a) Evans --> Wollschield
    (b) Silva --> Alli

    But also thinking

    (c) Silva --> Arnie for 2 weeks, and switch back to Silva

If you can easily field a good 11 in GW27 and GW30, is the best strategy to use transfers to fill the bench for GW 30 with 4 future DGWers giving the flexibility to WC and BB in either 33 or 36?

thinking the likes of Lingard would fit the bill

This is the question at the moment. Could play the fixtures and take punts up to GW33 WC or play it safe and give yourself the option to WC later as well. Some have said that 37 might be too late with the rotation so I'm feeling the former option.

I assume there's no guarantee of a mega DGW in 37 either.

    It feels massively dull though.

I like my team for this week and the addition of Wimmer seems to make it even better tbh I'd have a fairly hefty powerhouse.

Not a bad record at all and I quite like them with Kirchhoff in midfield and Kone at the back now.

Problem is, it's been 12 games since they've kept a clean sheet. I think if they can get 1, they will get a few although I don't think West Ham are the team they will stop

He did and got a goal and assist. When motivated there is no one better but he is so lazy and doesn't bother half the time.

Regarding City mid's, i think the next few games will tell a lot so come GW 29 or 30 we will know who is playing the best out of Silva Yaya and Sterling

He is actually hilarious. Strolls around for 80 minutes and then strokes the ball beautifully into the net late on when needed, how many times have we seen it!
In answer to your question, he did position himself a bit further up the pitch tonight but just because he could, against a team that looked like their winter break really affected their running around ability.
I dunno if you could describe it as a No10 role.

he has been pretty poor this season and he seems to only play well every once in a while, just like City most of the season.

Have done Kun to Vardy and kept Lukaku for Villa GW 28 with the intention of getting Kun back in 29. A gamble I know but am way behind and chasing.

    1 FT left 6.0m ITB

    DDG* (McCarthy)
    Kosceilny Fuchs Daniels (Janmaat Moreno)
    Ozil Mahrez Payet Alli Stanislas
    Kane* Vardy (Lukaku)

Only have the bare 11 with two potential injuries*. Should I use my FT on getting in someone else who plays this week and GW 30?

    Thoughts?

Straight swap for DDG or for McCarthy? COnsidering DDG will have a nice DGW 34.

could be a good shout, unless you've still got your wildcard? Could bring him back in that way....if not maybe just hang on for the presser and wait for news on his injury regarding the weekend

Still have WC but intention is to use in GW 36 with a BB in 37.

Will wait on news of DDG and make a last minute decision then. Cheers
