Olivier Giroud returns to the scoresheet to nudge Arsene Wenger, Riyad Mahrez takes to the international stage to maintain his form, while Rafa Benitez counts Fabricio Coloccini out of Newcastle’s looming Canaries clash…

Giroud offers reminder

Olivier Giroud volleyed home from close range as France enjoyed a 3-2 win over Netherlands in an emotional night in Amsterdam, as fans and players remembered the recently deceased Dutch legend Johan Cruyff.

The Scout Says: In light of Danny Welbeck’s return from injury, Olivier Giroud has fallen down the pecking order at Arsenal, starting just one of the Gunners’ last four league ties. Welbeck, meanwhile, has repaid the faith invested in him by Arsene Wenger, notching three goals and one assist in three starts and two cameos. Priced at 7.3, Welbeck certainly represents an alluring option if he was guaranteed to start up top for both fixtures in the Gunners’ double Gameweek 34 (CRY, WBA). However, the fact he’s still not completely shaken off his knee injury and faces obvious competition from Giroud heightens his rotation risk during a period in which Arsenal embark on three matches in eight days.

United Pair Lay On Goals

Manchester United’s Anthony Martial and Memphis Depay earned assists for their respective nations as France secured an away win over Netherlands.

The Scout Says: In terms of harnessing Manchester United’s attacking potential in their double Gameweek 34 (AVL, CRY), Martial is our preferred selection at present. Although the 7.6-priced Frenchman failed to score in his previous three league starts, only four forwards have amassed more shots on target (five) in their last four outings. Marcus Rashford (three goals in four) catches the eye by virtue of his 4.5 valuation, yet Wayne Rooney’s imminent return negates his security of starts. Ultimately, Louis van Gaal’s side are still struggling to gain any attacking momentum (two goals in three) but will be confident after their Manchester derby victory and could well flourish against an Aston Villa outfit that has conceded more goals than any other side (59) and a struggling Crystal Palace side that is without a clean sheet since Gameweek 19.

Willian Back Amongst The Returns

Willian laid on the assist for Douglas Costa’s opener in a 2-2 draw between Brazil and Uruguay in their World Cup Qualifier.

The Scout Says: After delivering returns in just two of his last ten league appearances, Willian used Brazil’s qualifier to get amongst the assists once more. Despite drawing three successive blanks in the league, Willian has posted some impressive numbers across his last four outings, ranking second among Chelsea’s midfield for attempts (seven) and joint-second among all his counterparts for key passes (17). While Chelsea are not treated to a double Gameweek 34, their upcoming trip to Aston Villa could encourage Gameweek 33 wildcarders to secure a differential from the champions’ squad, with Willian a clear option.

Mahrez Figures in Algerian Rout

Riyad Mahrez continued his rich vein of form by earning a brace of assists for Algeria in a 7-1 rout of Ethiopia in their African Cup of Nations qualifying tie.

The Scout Says: Coupled with two goals in three league starts, Mahrez’s growing influence on the internationals stage acts as a timely reminder of the dangers of selling him in the pursuit of extra double Gameweek 34 assets. Mahrez tops the Fantasy Premier League ranks for points per game with a 7.2 average, illustrating his capacity to outscore potential replacements in a single outing. Moreover, the Foxes enjoy a promising home tie against Swansea City in Gameweek 35, which would put non-owners in a nerve-shredding scenario.

Coloccini Set to Remain Sidelined

Rafa Benitez revealed that Fabricio Coloccini is still contending with a calf complaint and is unlikely to be passed fit for Newcastle United’s crunch trip to fellow strugglers Norwich City in Gameweek 32:

“I think Norwich will be too close for him. He is undergoing treatment and he is improving but when you have been away for a while. You need to time to have match fitness again.”

The Scout Says: Assuming Daryl Janmaat can recover from the knee knock that forced him to withdraw from the Netherlands squad, the marauding right-back remains the choice route into the Magpies’ rearguard ahead of their double Gameweek 34 (SWA, MCI). Aside from being the most secure starter, Janmaat ranks joint-seventh among defenders for shots on target (seven) and joint-tenth for key passes (22). Newcastle managed just one clean sheet in their last 15 outings but have seemingly tightened up under the guidance of Rafa Benitez – they’ve yet to conceded a “big chance†with the former Liverpool boss at the helm. While that could bode well for the vital trip to East Anglia, Coloccini’s prolonged absence will come as a blow and those considering Janmaat for Gameweek 34 will be eager for the Argentine to make a return to at least offer Benitez more options in his troubled back four.

    Butland
    Ivan Alderweird Dawson*
    Mahrez Payet* Alli Siggy
    Kun* Kane Vardy

    Casper Daniels Arnie Targett

Plan is to get in 8 or 9 dgw players. NO Wildcard. So any advice would be great.

WOAHHH found a way to accomodate Alexis.

    A) Simpson Morgan Sanchez Lallana

    vs

    B) Bellerin Fuchs Mahrez Coutinho

Not too keen on losing Mahrez though.

Fair point. But the difference is just one as I already have 1 LEI defender by default.

And while I'm losing out on the defense side, Mahrez is now a Sanchez. So extra game up front too.

Bar United and Arsenal none of the DGW defences really appeal to me. For United when you factor in the GW33 game vs Spurs and the GW35 blank it lessen their appeal too.

Going double Leicester isn't the worst idea.

for the people wildcarding GW 33 and benchboosting GW 34, what are your proposed teams?

Ive gone for this: (GW 34 Barkley --> Ozil)

    Robles - De Gea

    Rojo - Bellerin - Moreno - Catchcart - Delaney

De Bruyne - Lanzini - Payet - Barkley - Coutinho

    Rashford - Lukaku - Aguero

Too many GW35 blankers in that team. You need to find a better balance.
This is my team for GW34:
      DDG / Elliot
      Bellerin Sakho Reid Rojo Simpson
      Sanchez Özil Mahrez Payet Coutinho
      Aguero Lukaku Rashford

Looks alright! Currently considering WC32 (Now) to give myself that extra flexibility with prices.

Rojo seems the more viable over 6.5 Smalling but his minutes aren't as secure. Personally avoided Moreno like the plague and opted for Sakho instead.

No point in Delaney, as a Palace fan myself I don't see us keeping CS's or suddenly rising out of this slump let alone with the two away fixtures to United and Arsenal following a blank in GW35. Bolasie/Zaha/Wickham the only three palace players in with a shout and even then I think there are better options.

Midfield looks solid. Form could change in-between now and GW34 but you'll have your WC anyways!

Not sold on Rashford either, especially with Rooney's impeding return but can't deny he offers good value atm.

This. Keeping Mahrez and Kane means my GW35 team isn't torn to shreds and selling them now would most likely mean not being able to afford them back for the rest of the season.

Just looking at PPG. Keeping Kane is surely a no brainer with his ownership.
    Or am I missing something?

Kane 3 games @5.7ppg is 17.1pts from 33 to 35. On fire, huge ownership

    Mitrovic 4 games @ 2.8ppg is 11.2
    Martial. 3 games @ 4.2ppg is 12.6
Wickham5games @ 4.1ppg is 20.5 Lucky to play 3 out of 5 imo so would overlook him.

I know this is a very basic look at it and doesn't account for transfers and how you spend the extra money, but money isn't a major factor and the wildcard and bench boost is enough of an advantage if chasing 50 point leads in mini league in my opinion. Surely the same with Mahrez.

    Thoughts?

I think keeping Kane is a good option if you can afford to. Personally, I'll probably need to downgrade him to Martial/Welbeck in order to afford my other DGW'ers.

Interested to take Welbeck myself, except for his rotation with Giroud in double GW34 resulting in both the players playing 90 minutes max. (60 & 30 min if both matches). Should consider GW35 blank for martial.
Lukaku (3 Double GW's) is way to go.

His fixtures get very tough in comparison to the games he's just played and scored in

liv, MUN, sto, WBA, che, SOT, new

The only games that look appealing to me there is WBA, possibly Southampton

Liverpool, Stoke and Chelsea are generally good at home, United is always a dodgy one to predict

Newcastle could literally need to park the bus in GW38 to stay up

        • Fantasy Football Scout Member

United at home won't be a tough game for him to score in, neither will Chelsea away. Chelsea are shocking defensively this season.

        1. Bøwstring The Carp
          • 14 Years
          9 years, 10 months ago

Fair enough, keep him then, but I'd much rather have a player with both fixtures and form like Deeney or something. Especially to upgrade elsewhere. Just makes it so much easier for my proposed team.

          • 14 Years

And besides the thing with Kane recently is that he is (C) material when he was playing Villa and Bournemouth

I wouldn't be confident captaining him against liv, MUN, sto, che

      2. heraty88
        • 11 Years

I don't think the fixtures are that difficult considering the form of some of them teams this season. United and Liverpool are erratic to say the least. I see the difference it makes for upgrades for some, but some others are just gambling wildly and could see huge drops in rank. I can't see Kane or Mahrez not being hungry enough to keep performing considering there chasing the title and on red hot form.

The reality is that's far to basic a look at it.

Kane doesn't score 5.7pts every game.

He will blank, he will haul.

The time is now to gamble if you feel your position requires a gamble. If it doesn't then don't just play steady and use your chips.

      9 years, 10 months ago

I get it. Good post. I'd counter by saying that martial's fixtures aren't average- they're as good as it gets. Mitrovic looking better each wk and Wickham a non factor for me. My main concern is getting kane back in gw35. If I don't, then I likely won't have him at all for the end of season and that's quite scary.

Yeah, I just wanted to start a bit of discussion on this. I lurk a bit on here since I found it three seasons ago. I wonder sometimes do some people follow there own advice that they hand out here regularly. I think ditching Kane without a plan for gw35 would be madness alright.

I've got no WC so been planning with my ft's, but this week taking a hit to get bellerin + Sanchez in if no injuries, then coutihno, then ddg for gwk 34. Already got Lukaku, Payet, Antonio, aguero so that'll give me 8 dgw'ers in 34. It might be the fact that I've used my WC clouding my view but I personally think a lot of DGW maxxed out teams will fail as ppl who have spuffed their pants over it will take extra games over form. That's just one view of course but it'll be amusing if the DGW players flop and they're left with rubbish teams!!!

But to answer you in terms of hits I'm planning -4 this week, then maybe another -4 before 34 ,but not sure yet. If a player is bang on form AND DGW then they're worth a hit for sure

Somehow, I'm tempted by Sturridge over Kane over the next two with two home games.
Save my a transfer on GW34 too.

    Thoughts?

    Cons are
    1) Kane's in red hot form;
    2) I've not decided on Kane / Sturridge / Martial (-4) for 3rd slot striker on GW34.

Oh and Sturridge might get injured before then too obviously.

He isn't playing the team I posted above, therefore deserves criticism.

The impossible job! Smalling & stones is not the best partnership imo

How would my wildcard to GW33?

    Cech Robles
Otamendi Smalling Sakho Janmmat Collins (If fit, start)
    Coutinho Firmino Ozil Sanchez Mahrez
    Lukaku Martial Mitrovic

I know the danger of not having Kun but it was the best way to get nailed defenders

Fixtures help. I think we have a strong attack will be very important in DGWs

Kun and payet are 2 of 5 essentials in 34 for me, along with ozil, firmino and lukaku.

    DDG / Elliot

    Simpson / Fuchs / Koscielny / Bellerin / Klose
    Ozil / Firmino / Payet / Mahrez / Lanzini
    Aguero / Martial / Lukaku

    How's that ?

I don't really fancy Palace and Lukaku is the only attacker nailed on for both games, maybe an Everton defender? I don't think I can squeeze anyone in.

Is the target only reset after a red flag, not yellow? I could be very wrong.

This seems to be the assumption by a lot of people, but yellow resets as well. Like Dawson last weekend, was at -99% with yellow flag, played and back to 0%.

34: Dann Wickham > Janmmat Mitrovic (15 dgwers BB)
35: Smalling > Ivanovic (Payet Lukaku Lennon dgwers on bench, plus 3 LIV starting so 6 dgwers for 37: and 11 men out
36/37: Bring in 2 more doublers, Costa and one more to give 8 dgwers

      Things to keep in mind:
      1. Investing in Double GW34 players with a blank GW35 is same as players who play single match in GW34 & GW35 except you plan to sub blank GW35 players.
You may end up with too many players not playing in GW35.
2.Rotation policy of managers should be kept in mind. E.g Welbeck is most likely to play a single match in GW34 in rotation with Giroud or a 60min gametime (1st match GW34) + 30 min gametime (2nd match GW34) which is better than not featuring at all.

Best one week transfer before wc:

      A) Silva > Ozil
      B) Bertrand > Gabriel
      C) Siggy > Khazri
      D) Siggy > Lanzini

      Cheers
