Vincent Kompany picks up another injury as Man City stumble at the Champions League semi-final stage. Tottenham’s Mousa Dembele is charged with violent conduct by the FA for his clash with Diego Costa on Monday night, whilst Liverpool’s Divock Origi is still hopeful of returning from injury before the season is out.

Kompany limps out of City loss

A 1-0 loss in the Bernabeu saw City’s dreams of Champions League glory extinguished at the semi-final stage.

Having fielded a second-string outfit at Southampton on Sunday, Manuel Pellegrini made eight changes to last night’s starting line-up. The likes of Sergio Aguero, Kevin de Bruyne, Yaya Toure, Gael Clichy, Bacary Sagna and Vincent Kompany were all named in the first XI, though the latter lasted just ten minutes against Madrid before being forced off with a hamstring problem.

After a hugely disappointing performance in which his team managed just a single shot on target – courtesy of De Bruyne – Pellegrini conceded that Kompany will be assessed today after yet another injury setback.

The Scout Says: With Europe no longer a distraction, Pellegrini can now turn his attentions to Sunday’s crucial home encounter with Arsenal. The City manager’s team sheets may have frustrated us in recent weeks – with De Bruyne starting just two of the last five, for example – but considering that they need three points to overtake the Gunners in third, it seems far more likely that the Chilean will roll out his strongest side this weekend. City’s need to go on the offensive to climb back into the automatic Champions League places could be good news for De Bruyne and Aguero owners, then, whilst at the back, Kompany’s potential absence might not be as much of a setback as anticipated – the Etihad side had conceded just two goals in the previous five league matches without their captain prior to the weekend loss at St Mary’s.

Dembele Charged by FA

Mousa Dembele has been retrospectively charged with violent conduct by the FA for an alleged incident with Diego Costa in Monday’s draw at Chelsea. The Spurs midfielder has until 6pm this evening to respond to the charge.

The FA also went on to suggest that, if found guilty, the Belgian could face an extended period on the sidelines:

“Further, it is alleged the player’s behaviour constituted violent conduct in circumstances where the standard punishment of three matches that would otherwise apply is clearly insufficient.”

The Scout Says: Given the nature of the incident, it seems very likely that Dembele will play no further part in the remainder of the season. Already deprived of Dele Alli’s services due to suspension, Mauricio Pochettino could be set to face former club Southampton without two of his first-choice picks in the centre of the park. Should Dembele be handed the expected ban, our faith in Harry Kane could take a turn for the worse. Alarmingly, Spurs’ top scorer has netted just once in the nine league matches that the Belgian has failed to start this season, compared to 24 strikes in 27 outings with him in the first XI.

Origi hopeful of Reds’ return

Divock Origi has stepped up his recovery from the ankle injury that forced him off during last month’s Merseyside derby against Everton.

Discussing his fitness with the Reds’ official website, the Belgian refused to rule out a return to action before the end of the season:

“It’s progressing well. It’s been ten days now so I try and improve every day and make steps, we just try and [ensure that] I’m back as quick as possible. My goal is to come back as soon as possible and I just want to go back on the pitch. I think it’s possible but you never know.”

The Scout Says: Judging by his comments, it seems likely that Origi will miss the Reds’ upcoming double Gameweek home encounters against Watford and Chelsea. Whilst Liverpool’s team sheets remain impossible to second-guess right now, the Belgian’s continued absence could strengthen Daniel Sturridge’s chances of starts. Sturridge has been named in the starting XI in six of the last seven – scoring off the bench in the other fixture – and if he’s named amongst the subs against Villarreal later tonight, many may well be tempted to take a punt on a player with five goals and an assist in his last seven.

Monreal (still owns Gabriel), TFM, Simpson to Cresswell, Martin, and Moreno ? (essentially 3 games extra)

No. You'd need clean sheets from 2 of the 3 just to make up for the hits. I'd just get rid of TFM for Cresswell if you can afford that?

Cheeky wee repost. Got lost at the bottom of another post.

    A) Lukaku, Alli, Rose > Defoe, Hazard, Reid -8
    B) Lukaku, Alli > Carroll, Fabregas, play Bellerin -4
    C) Alli > Willian, play Lukaku, Bellerin, no hits.

Need to decide before tomorrow, to avoid further price changes.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

What lessons have you learned form GWK 34 that you will either ignore or put into action in DGWK 37?

For me I'm looking to ignore the lesson that good single gameweekers should not be discarded and will promptly ditch Kane.

Spot on, even if you have a bad weekend you have the comfort blanket of another game to come! Actually, this is maybe a lesson from 34 - most of us were in the depths of despair Mon night when Spurs hauled, but then midweek magic occurred and all was right again with the world. So the lesson with the DGW surely is it ain't over til it's over!

Get the players from teams that have something to play for...Sunderland, ManU and West Ham looks like best bets. I think i'm going to get rid some of the DGW players i already have (Robles, Lukaku) to bring players from those teams.

Actually I had a good gw34, plus I kept Kane and Morgan. Think I'd definitely do it again and take the poor gw33 (Lukaku troll was the only thing holding most down) and poor gw35 (cheers Liverpool) and the hits to recover because getting north of 150 pts on the board was simply epic and meant I made up serious ground on a casual ML leader.

This weekend I'm not going overboard but trying to get 8 dgwers. Lesson I am trying to learn is not to trust Liverpool so I could well end up removing my last one (Coutinho) for another nailed option.

Lessons learnt is mainly rotation risk which need to be calculated.
And keep in-form SGWers. I am sticking with Alexis/Townsend and Kun..
But shipping Kane. Just because I feel Spurs is now broken.. No Alli nor Dembele to support Kane.

The main lesson? It's not over until the last final whistle has blown and the last games' bonus points have been allocated. So don't count your green arrow chickens before they've hatched, and don't rage quit your week after only 5 games are done.

I look at my side and see Timmy Fosu-Mensah saying how he is so looking forward to having another 1 minute DGW. I got suckered in on that by greed - a lesson learned. Makes a good sub though at that price.

To me the lesson - as it always is - is to get players in as nailed on as possible. You can't score much if not on the pitch. And secondly get those with something to play for and not likely to be rotated.

For me I'm filling up on West Ham with the energy the emotions this week will bring. Cresswell looks a must at both ends of the pitch. Noble is an interesting one in the form he is in - he will likely be the most fired up of the lot. Carroll - so tempting and yet...

completely agree with this, nailed on players are key, steer clear of good looking cheap prospects like Fosu and Gabriel - although matters a bit less now there is only one gameweek to play after this one

8 DGW'ers and Kane, Aguero and Sanchez still in my XI.

Thought about selling Hazard for a hit for Alexis, but I reckon he could do damage against City and has Villa coming up. Hazard not assured two starts in the double either.

Going into DGW37 hit-free with 8 DGW'ers and Payet (TC).

      Robles
      Mahrez
Carroll if leading. Hazard if chasing,
Lingard to Lanzini/Payet(if you have the cash). Doubt he will start both games.

He's always like that though and at least I got a goal out of him the week before. Normally you keep him for 10 weeks and he does nothing and then gets a big haul the week you sell!

    DDG Gomes
    Azpi Cresswell Bellerin PvA Targett
    Sanchez Payet Firmino Milner Barkley
    Aguero Carroll Deeney

    1FT and 2.6 ITB.
    I'm playing BB this GW.

Not totally sold on Milner so I'm tempted to ditch him for Townsend. Also, how about a cheeky Sanchez > Hazard for - 4?
