Welcome to the FFS UEFA Champion’s League awards ceremony where we congratulate the winner of the final as well as the winners of the competition’s various awards. The latest results can be found in the spreadsheet here.
The Final
Firstly, huge congratulations to the two finalists Lucy and HvT. They both did exceptionally well to reach the final, which took place during double Gameweek 37.
Before the games started, HvT was already ahead as Lucy resorted to taking a double hit in order to sort her team out and ensure she could maximise her starting players. However, disaster struck on the first day of the Gameweek as her captain Dimitri Payet had failed to register any attacking points and Antonu Martial pulled up with an injury during his warmup. HvT had placed faith in West Ham’s pony-tailed striker Andy Carroll and had triple captained him for this tie. Fortunately for Lucy, he also failed to register any attacking points as West Ham suffered a rare home defeat to Swansea, conceding four goals in the process. Despite the captain failings, HvT led the tie 42 to 28 after the first set of fixtures.
However, the tie was turned on its head in the second round of fixtures, especially during Manchester United’s 2-3 defeat at Upton Park. Lucy pulled ahead thanks to Martial’s brace and then looked unstoppable as Payet earned two assists and Michail Antonio and Winston Reid, who were also in her team, both scored. Winning by 93-89, her hits and faith in the right West Ham attackers paid off as she held aloft the inaugural FFS UEFA Champions League trophy.
