Nicolaou Claims FPL Crown

Dimitri Nicolaou has finally been crowned Fantasy Premier League (FPL) champion for 2015/16 after Manchester United and Bournemouth belatedly brought the curtain down on the season last night.

A member of the Fantasy Football Scout league, Dimitri went into the Old Trafford match level with Jack Manners and eight points clear of Ed Masters after the latter pair clawed back significant ground thanks to a 26-point haul from captain Sadio Mane in Southampton’s win over Palace on Sunday.

Dimitri, meanwhile, was left on edge after the decision to play his All Out Attack chip backfired when Jurgen Klopp opted to leave Philippe Coutinho out of Liverpool’s clash with West Brom on Sunday.

Louis van Gaal’s full-strength team sheet eased Dimitri’s fears. Whereas Jack had no players in last night’s match, Dimitri was able to call upon both Chris Smalling and Marcus Rashford for the showdown against Eddie Howe’s side. Ed, meanwhile, was banking on a standout performance from his sole representative, David de Gea, to stand any chance of clambering to the summit.

Smalling did little to help Dimitri’s cause, though. His late own goal not only denied De Gea a share of the Golden Glove and scuppered Ed’s prospects, it saw the centre-half register zero points in the 3-1 home win.

Instead, it was left to Rashford to help seal victory for the new champion. The youngster’s goal and two bonus points earned his owners eight points and saw Dimitri succeed Simon March as the latest to claim the FPL title.

Congratulations go to Dimitri, then, who can now breathe easy after a nerve-jangling 48 hours brought on by Sunday’s postponement. A special mention also goes to Ed – a site regular who posts under the name “Mo Mane Mo Problems”, he finished top of the Fantasy Football Scout members league – whilst Jake Yates also made it another successful season for the site by taking fourth overall.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

I see Grosicki in many teams, but why not Krychowiak from Sevilla? He does have only 2 goals as opposed to Grosicki's 4, but he has also played more games in qualifiers (10, Grosicki 9), and he's 6.0 so he saves a lot of money (Grosicki 7.0). Does anybody have more info about these two?

Krychowiak is defensive minded I believe.

i prefer Grosicki for his attack potential

As a Pole I might help I believe. Krychowiak is a card magnet, plays CDM for both country and Sevilla. One of the best defensive midfielders in La Liga, by the way. While Grosicki is a winger, nailed on, he is explosive but we have no idea what to expect from him. He can score a brace one day and totally disappear in the next game and be subbed around the 60th minute mark. Maybe Grosicki for his potential, but I see better options. Krychowiak shouldn't even be even looked at, amazing player in real life but I'd compare getting him in a fantasy game as if you picked Schneiderlin or Coquelin in FPL.

Thanks. I've just seen he's a DM, but his two goals intrigued me to think about getting him over Grosicki, did they come from set pieces?

What do you think then who's the best option for a mid from Poland?

          • 8 Years
          7 years, 11 months ago

One goal I can remember came in a crucial game against Ireland (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBmwK4eTq6c), the other I don't recall, probably in one of the games against San Marino. 😀

Our midfield, barring injuries, looks like this:
Zieliński and Krychowiak in CDM positions
Błaszczykowski and Grosicki on the wings
          Milik just behind Lewandowski

Grosicki has had an amazing season, while Błaszczykowski really struggled on loan in Fiorentina. So that comes down to Grosicki only, with Lewandowski and Milik obviously good options in attack.

Thanks Johnny, but I'll think I'll pass on your midfielders alltogether, too expensive for me, since all the goals will probably come from Lewa 🙂

Interesting read, Johnny O. So, what are your thoughts on Poland's team? Which attacking players will start, or get the most minutes apart from Lewandowski?

          • 8 Years
          7 years, 11 months ago

Milik scored 6 goals in 9 in the qualifying phase. He's also had a fantastic season with Ajax, scoring 21 goals in 31 appearances. Priced at 7.5, he is definitely the one to consider if you don't have cash for Lewandowski.

As I mentioned above, Grosicki might pay off as a wild punt. Piszczek at 5.5 is also a decent option for your defence, first or second name on the team sheet with a lot of attacking potential.

As Johny said: consider Lewa, Grosicki (I'd compare him to Mane), Piszczek and Milik. Nailed is also Glik.

@ Scouts , when's the time for glorification of FFS posters ?

After my most dismal FPL season( when playing seriously) I have at least an UFPL brag. 20 OR , and a surge into 3rd in UFPL FFS league

Seriously though , we need promotion of the UFPL game , by a distance the more interesting and entertaining game around .

I see very little interest in it tbh and it's always going to be small fry compared to FPL.. i would be surprised if there were more than 1000 people who play that game properly and less that play it religiously meeting all dead lines etc.. aside from Wakey and WR and now yourself i see no one overly bothered about it.. the monthly prizes look very good though and i reckon most will set up a team next year to have a crack at nailing one of those..

23000 paid there way in this season. A small price to pay for the most entertaining game out there. Dont understand the lack of interest. Last season had an OR 604 in FPL and yet UFPL game was what got me "going" around 100 OR, . Still does,

Plenty of users even in the UK aren't around to see lineups. I would miss too many lineups to bother. Too much advantage given away to those who are diligent.

Actually a far easier game TM. Dont have to spend a week wondering, Come in when line ups are anounced , do your thing and get back for Sunday games. Most on here are foaming at the mouth for line ups , whats so difficult ?

Making your 25 is the hard part, working out which day teams play and the like. Being in a different time zone makes it impossible to play for me. FPL can be as easy to play if you just look at the Scout Picks and make 1/2 changes each Saturday. Some are busy when lineups come out with work/going out. If you can make all the lineups then it's a good game to play. You get to correct bad scores with new players. Quite hard to get a bad score 🙂

I played it this season from NZ was going alone mg ok, in top 100 until a missed deadline when disnt realise the clocks had changed, also missed a few late changes due to being asleep at the time.

Gave up playing in April when i realised the disadvantages were too great to overcome

Just want to give a shout out for our Sky paid league. Despite having only 183 enter we claimed the third highest scoring league overall (the highest paid league) behind only FFS itself and Sporting League.

    That means the £915 entry fees will be split between the top four 1st 50%, 2nd 25%, 3rd 15%, 4th 10%.

In addition though it means we have won the £5,000 prize offered by Sky which will be split between the top five as follows!

    Massive congrats to

    1. Dexter Hayes £2,000
    2. Will Thomas (Sky Guru) £1,100
    3. Stuart Pank £800
    4. Paul McAnulty £600
    5. Kevin Anderson £500

Contact me on twitter @d1sable for you cash, i would do it quickly if I was you because the temptation to keep the £5,000 may overwhelm me 😉

    I'm thinking
    Fabregas £7m

Alli 6.5m is the biggest bargain IMO.

  10. Euro 2016: Group B Prospects
    Parm

    Group B.

England: Hart; Clyne, Smalling, Cahill, Rose; Dier, Alli, Wilshere, Sterling; Kane, Rooney.

Before you all shout at me this is what I think Roy will play, not what I would play, you're knowledgeable enough to draw your own conclusions on this England team under Roy.

Russia: Akinfeev; Smolnikov, V.Berezutski, Ignashevich, Kombarov; Denisov, Dzagoev; Kokorin, Shirokov, Shatov; Dzyuba.

Since we've last seen them not much has changed at the back, the centre-back pairing are still edging closer to retirement but not budging and whilst Kombarov might face some competition Zhirkov for his place, he is on some set-pieces I believe. Dzagoev has dropped into a deeper role with Captain Shirokov as the more advanced of a midfield three/#10 at times. Andy Carroll tribute act Aleksandr Kerzhakov is reduced to a super sub role to the delight of past fantasy owners.

Wales: Hennessey; Gunter, Chester, Williams, Davies, Taylor; Ledley, Allen; Ramsey, Bale, Robson-Kanu.

This is the most settled team in the tournament, in my eyes. Once Coleman found the back five, the only changes made were due to injuries, I expect the same in France.

Slovakia: Kozáčik, Pekarík, Škrtel, Ďurica, Pekarík; Pečovský, Kucka; Mak, Hamšík, Weiss; Ďuriš/Nemec.

This side; again, seems settled. Stoch will be pushing for a place on the wing and Nemec/Ďuriš up top will be down to the wire.

Why not? If you are going to watch some games during the Euros then definitely you'll find some decent picks while the tournament is being played.

Before the Euros start, you can chose your team by following the template on here and studying these stats: (The best stats from qualifiers I could find) http://www.uefa.com/uefaeuro/season=2016/statistics/round=2000446/players/kind=goals/index.html#order=3desc

    Am I missing something?

Have written to the UEFA Euro 2016 Fantasy Support for their confirmation that the rules have changed.

But it seems quite clear. We had bigger squads last time right - 20 players?

The wording on auto-subs seems clear. The gameday/matchday is then equivalent to a gameweek in FPL.

The Matchday is then a whole round of fixtures and we play it exactly as we would FPL right?

    1. Meinhoff
      • 11 Years
      7 years, 11 months ago

"The substitution period will be available between gamedays where you can replace a starting XI player with a bench player."

" - you can transfer/substitute players depending whether it's a transfer or substitution period."

I think we'll have manual substitutions between days. Why else would they name something "substitution period"

        Dammit, my head's spinning.

I'm sure there were no price rises last time round either. It's really annoying that they just cant be clearer. The entire set up of the squad is based on whether you can swap between 'gamedays' or not.

It'll make or break the first round.

Chiellini, Bonucci, Barzagli. Not sure if they play with 3 or 4 defenders, but I can't see Ogbonna being chosen ahead any of the Juventus defenders.

Did anyone see Italy's squad? Has there been a rant about it on here yet???? Where's everyone that's anyone? Veratti, Pirlo, Montilivo, Darmian, Giovinco

      • 8 Years
      7 years, 11 months ago

"Italy players yet to play Cup finals - namely those with Juventus, AC Milan, Paris Saint Germain and Manchester United -- were left out of the reckoning altogether, meaning Conte's final squad on May 31 could look very different."

        • 8 Years
        7 years, 11 months ago

Verratti won't go to France after suffering a groin injury. Pirlo is too old and playing in the MLS. Giovinco missing also comes as no suprise, he made a huge mistake and two steps backwards by moving to the States.

        1. juggos
          • 11 Years
          7 years, 11 months ago

Pirlo I expected to be called up for a support role and his experience. I wasn't aware verratti underwent surgery but knew marchisio would be out. And I noticed Bonucci's name on the provisional squad so I thought Juve players were included but it makes sense since he's suspended. Giovinco still deserves a chance despite playing in the mls as he's been one of the best players in the league. What do you think the starting XI for euros is going to be?

            • 8 Years
            7 years, 11 months ago

Conte probably didn't take Giovinco purely based on the fact that he never handled the pressure in the big games in the Juve times.

Buffon and the back 4 (Darmian, Bonucci, Barzagli and Chiellini) really picks itself. Florenzi on the right, De Rossi and Montolivo in the middle, Candreva/El Faraone on the left. Pelle and Eder leading the line I'd imagine.

  22. Euro 2016: Group C Prospects

    7 years, 11 months ago

    Group C

Germany: Neuer; Höwedes, Boateng, Hummels, Hector; Kroos, Schweinsteiger; Götze, Özil, Reus; Müller.

It saddens me that Schweinsteiger might actually start over the wealth of youngsters that deserve to be playing in his place, not to mention Khedira who has had an excellent season at Juventus. Müller/Götze will tussle for the 'centre-forward' spot but I expect Müller to come out on top. The right-back spot is still a mystery and I've gone for Höwedes on the back of his World Cup showings despite the fact he hasn't played in qualifying. Emre Can didn't impress their at all. Rüdiger, Rudy & Mustafi have all played there too but Löw seems none the wiser.

Ukraine: Pyatov; Fedetskiy, Khacheridi, Rakitskiy, Shevchuk; Rybalka, Garmash, Stepanenko; Yarmolenko, Konoplyanka; Zozulya.

Back five 99% settled. Yarmolenko and Konoplyanka the key threats from the front, Zozulya has competition but the place up front is his for now. Midfield could see changes if Rotan, who is banned for 6 months after fighting with a referee, receives confirmation that said ban is only a domestic one. Crazy, right?

Poland: Szczęsny/Fabianski; Piszczek, Glik, Pazdan, Rybus; Błaszczykowski, Krychowiak, Mączyński, Grosicki; Milik, Lewandowski.

Zieliński is competition for Mączyński, otherwise the team picks itself. Simple.

Northern Ireland: McGovern; McLaughlin, Cathcart, McAuley, J Evans Brunt; Davis, Baird, Norwood; Ward, Lafferty.

O'Neill has said he's expermineting a back five in France. Norwood, Baird & Davis form a solid midfield three with one of Ward or Dallas partnering Lafferty, if he opts for a 4-3-3 like NI played throughout qualifying both Ward & Dallas should start. Will Grigg's hot form may or may not convince O'Neill to give the Wigan man a chance to terrify defences in France.

When are the head-to-head league updated? I should be top, but still showing 2nd.

It was a 24 game round robin. The semi final and final results don't change the table. You won the final so you are the winner. Imagine 3rd/4th won, they still wouldn't have enough points to pass you.

Ah ok, so i'm still shown as 2nd, despite winning, sounds legit.

Is there a way to sort OR by gender? Reckon my wife is top female in Ireland (whipped my ass!).

Just check out the Ireland league. A few unisex names might be tricky.

True TM, anyway she won us a holiday so we're celebrating with a nice bottle of Chateauneuf du Bap!

Thanks on her behalf. Show's the less biased approach works well compared to my ''superior knowledge" and consequent poor rank.
