The day’s second Euro 2016 fixture finds Switzerland clash with Romania as they look for their second victory in Group A and secure progress into the knock-out phase.
In their 12 previous meetings this pairing are evenly matched, having recorded five wins apiece, with two draws. This is their first major tournament encounter since the 1994 World Cup, when Switzerland were coached by current England boss Roy Hodgson.
Switzerland, now managed by Vladimir Petković, racked up 15 goal attempts in their opening fixture, a 1-0 victory over Albania. However, with more than half of their shots failing to hit the target they looked far from impressive at times.
Beaten 2-1 by France in their opener, Anghel Iordanescu’s Romania are in dire need of a win to salvage their campaign and will need to go on the attack. They’ll do so without the talents of Nicolae Stanciu in midfield who, rather inexplicably, drops out of their lineup having impressed against the French.
