DraftKings – Thursday Player Picks

There’s just over 24 hours left until the Euro 2016 quarter-finals get underway, with DraftKings managers afforded a pair of fixtures over Thursday and Friday to assemble their eight-man squads from.

As we revealed yesterday, if you’ve yet to register, DraftKings are offering the opportunity of free entry to an upcoming contest for the quarter-finals over Thursday and Friday’s matches.

Providing you sign up via this link before 4pm on Thursday, your account will be credited with $3 by 6pm that day. Players should then use the credit amount to enter the “EUROS $13k Striker” contest on Thursday.

The first match of the quarter-finals sees Poland and Portugal go head-to-head for a place in the last four at 8pm tomorrow evening.

Both sides required extra-time to advance past the Round of 16, with Poland defeating Switzerland on spot-kicks, whilst the Portuguese progressed thanks to Ricardo Quaresma’s late winner over Croatia.

Fernando Santos’ side are the slight favourites for this one. Portugal sit fourth for attempts on goal over the tournament so far and have fired almost double the number of shots on target (23 to 12) than their opponents. At the back, it’s a similar story, with Poland conceding 33 efforts inside the penalty box to Portugal’s 20.

Wales take on Belgium in Friday evening’s 8pm encounter.

Marc Wilmots’ men are heavily favoured to advance to the semi-finals after sweeping aside Hungary 4-0 in the previous round. Certainly, the underlying stats underline the Red Devils’ attacking potential – they have registered more goals and shots on target than any side so far.

Wales, however, are second only to their opponents for goals (seven to eight) and, after squeezing past Northern Ireland, boast the highest shot accuracy (51.1%) in the tournament. In defence, Chris Coleman’s side have conceded less attempts inside the box that the Belgians and have the form to make a mockery of their underdog tag.

Fortunately, DraftKings allows us to scan the teamsheets before each fixture, adjusting your line-ups in search of some last-minute bargains.

Here’s our selection of DraftKings targets to help guide your picks ahead of Saturday’s contests.

Gareth Bale – Wales – $10200
Joint-top scorer for the tournament so far, the Wales talisman also leads the way when it comes to efforts on target – a total of 13 is five more than any player after four rounds of fixtures. As evidenced by his crucial assist in the 1-0 win over Northern Ireland, Bale will be vital to Wales’ progress and we can expect him to pose Thibaut Courtois plenty of problems as Chris Coleman’s men look to cement a place in the semi-finals.

Eden Hazard – Belgium – $8500
The Belgium wide man finally sparked into life last time out with a goal and assist in the 4-0 demolition of Hungary. More budget-friendly than team-mate Kevin de Bruyne ($9700), Hazard registered three shots and four key passes against the Magyars and, after a slow start to Euro 2016, looks to be building momentum for the last eight. It’s worth noting that Hazard is a slight doubt for the match after picking up a thigh problem.

Jakub Blaszczykowski – Poland – $6100
Restored to the starting XI for the win over Switzerland, the Poland winger grabbed the opener to take his tally to two strikes and an assist for the tournament – essentially, he’s played a part in all his nation’s goals so far. Given that he sits second for crosses and is top for successful tackles amongst Adam Nawalka’s squad, Blaszczykowski looks an excellent all-round option for our eight-man DraftKings squads.

Raphael Guerreiro – Portugal – $4900
The defender offers a reliable route into the Portugal rearguard at a time where uncertainty surrounds the right-back berth. Despite missing the final group match, Guerreiro still leads the way when it comes to successful tackles for Fernando Santos’ side and his raids down the flank have delivered 16 crosses – third highest in the squad. Having also supplied six key passes, his creativity could be vital to his nation’s prospects of progressing. Guerreiro picked up a minor muscle problem during the extra-time win over Croatia but has since returned to training earlier today, according to reports.

DraftKings contests for Thursday and Friday’s matches are now available, including the above-mentioned $3 entry “Striker” with a $13k prize pot. Those yet to register should check out this link to take advantage of the free entry offer.

DraftKings is available only to those aged 18 or over. Be sure to take note of their Terms and Conditions here.

Just wanted to blow my own horn a bit. Before the last days QF's I had won a free bet of 100£. Turned out nothing except 1,x,2 were allowed.
You can see what i wanted to bet and what I ended up with on link below(hopefully).

    http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/comment/13496828

800£ win as they take back the money bet.

Now I also won another 100£ free bet, i get to keep the net win, if I win.
It was restricted to Wimbledon and I picked 12 winners, many like murray, Djokovic had extremely low odds. So in the end I got close to 5.50× .
Now I screwed up a bit and seems to have picked 2 winners in round 2.
But all 10 won in round 1, Tomic made me a bit worried.

So I have 2 left, Karlovic needs to win his round 2 match and the same with Cilic.
    Would get me 440£ plus.

Of course there are less good things.
I used 100£ of my own money on Englan game.
Stuck 50 on Studge o score twice.
      10 on Raheem AGS.
      And
40 on Roo FGS.... Won 280. But then after Iceland scored 2-1, I lost my mind and put those 250£ the game ending +4.5 goals.
      Not my smartest move.
      But still can't complin.

Midfielders don't often score very well. So for me its ok to have a Renato in the team, even if he starts out, as long as it enables me to get the exact other players that I want.

I don't, sorry. Midfielders are king in this game due to the absence of baps and the greater number of points they get for a goal and cs.

    3. Madderegern
      • 9 Years
      7 years, 10 months ago

I disagree that midfielders are king. Defenders/keepers are in this game, as we dont have high scoring mids really.

And for that same reason, its better to have 4 superb mids instead of like 3 superb and 2 mediocre.

Midfielders are king because you'd trust them to do well and because their 'explosions' are more likely to predict. For example, it's much more likely that you would have captained Hazard or Payet for their hauls than for say someone like a Schar.

With the margin between the teams decreasing as the competitions move on, the clean sheets are becoming much more harder to predict as well. In some cases, you'd require your defender to hold on for 120 minutes, so clean sheets are becoming much more unlikelier by the minute

        1. Madderegern
          • 9 Years
          7 years, 10 months ago

Agreed that CS's are getting harder to predict and come by... but often - a Def for captain can be a much safer bet. A mid has to score or assist to compare to a CS.
Yes, Payet(first games) and Hazard(Last game) did well - but look - while a STAR player like Payet made 21 points so far, a player like Sagna made 19. So more likely to score evenly "good"....

Going to use WC, I expect Portugal, Belgium & France to go through with Italy/Germany to close to call.

So I don't box myself into a corner with future transfers, I'm thinking of getting 3 from each of the above teams. Is this a good or bad strategy?

23 goals in 50 apps for Marseille for a 22 year old is excellent. As for the money, if you compare it to others like Tekkers or Lukaku, it's fine. He's 3 years younger than Benteke and Lukaku would be going for £40mill or more these days because of his age.

Lukaku and Tekkers are PL proven (the latter, kinda lol), so you really shouldn't compare to them.

He wouldn't be the first player to perform in a mediocre league for a mediocre team and never translate it to one of the toughest leagues in the world.

See this is where our opinions will differ. Seeing as other players from said mediocre league were good in the league last season (Payet, Ayew, Martial) I'd wager he's well capable of performing. Plus I don't rate the PL remotely as highly as some, as it has proven time and again with its European performances. It is only tough because there is more competition, not the quality of players imo.

I can't tell the future, he could do well. From what I've seen though, he's very much a head-down, unaware of his surroundings, selfish player. That may work in a small pond where he's the most important player on the pitch but will it work in a big club with huge expectations?

Also PL teams would do much better in Europe if, like nearly all other leagues, they:
              - started later
              - had a longer Xmas break
              - didn't have an extra cup competition

I've seen a different player. Not to say he doesn't need work, of course he does at 22, but I've very often been impressed with him.

Biggest thing that would help PL teams in Europe is better players. I think a lot of those reasons don't hold enough water for me, teams rotate, especially for domestic cup competitions, and yes the reduced Xmas break is problematic but I don't for a minute believe it is a massive factor.

Why do you want to swap?

I really like Grosicki as a pick . A non playing keeper seems like the obvious move to me .

Grosicki looked dangerous last game, maybe keep is the best idea. How much would you have itb then?

        Just read you have .5
If possible and with Hector being rumured to be ill. Boateng could be good swap.
Don't know Umutis price either, not possible to get Sagna or Evra instead?

Could do Gomez to Eder, Milik, Carrasco or Nani then do Chester to Vertonghen or Koscielny? Good team overall though, no big deal 🙂

Nice team! Would go Patricio instead of Fabianski myself but maybe that's only because I see Portugal going through.

Thanks! 🙂 Yeah I see what you're saying, I stuck Fabianski in just to get Polish defensive cover as already had Guerreiro, spreading the risk etc.

    Neuer - Courtois
    Umtiti - Hector - Meunier - Jędrzejczyk - Kościelny
Hazard - Payet - Draxler - De Bruyne - Sanches
    Ronaldo - Griezmann - Gomez

    0.2m still in the bank

Don't like that amount of money in your gk duo, rest looks good, except for no Italy defence

I did have a 4m GK as i thought as the competition goes on i might need the money elsewhere, so i might revert back to that tactic. As for no Italy defence i'm gambling on a german win but its a tough one to call.

    Choose one :
(Considering I already have Payet, Giroud, KDB, Meunier)

    A) Patricio, Renato Sanches, Hazard, Sagna

    B) Lloris, Pogba, Nanggolian, Guirriero/Fonte
