The Numbers Game – 2015/16 Review – Tottenham

Up next in our series of members’ articles, which review the numbers behind the 2015/16 season, are Tottenham.

We kick start our analysis by assessing the north London outfit’s team statistics in Mauricio Pochettino’s second season in charge and compare them to the rest of the Premier League. After that, we then take a close look at their first-team squad, main goal threats and creative sources with one eye on the season kick-off in just three weeks’ time.

Pochettino’s side finished third last time around, 11 points behind champions Leicester and one point behind north London rivals Arsenal.

That fails to tell the full story, though, as Spurs were still in with a chance of winning the title right up until their Gameweek 36 trip to Chelsea, where a 2-2 draw at the Bridge, which saw the visitors pick up nine yellow cards, handed the crown to Claudio Ranieri’s men.

Subsequent losses to Southampton and relegated Newcastle – a 5-1 hammering at St James’ – meant their season ended in bitter disappointment, with the Gunners climbing above them to clinch the runners-up slot on the final day of 2015/16.

my main tip leading into this season - pick players who have had an entire summers rest and full pre-season. Eriksen, Tadic etc come to mind

Love to see a full list of:
          1) those who didn't play in the euros, and
          2) those not playing in AFN

Has anyone seen a way to change your captain / vice captain normally?

i.e without having to rotate the entire squad?

There doesn't seem to be an obvious way to do it on the new site (from my view)

My guess is that Bats will play as Eder did in the Euros and Costa/Lukaku as Pelle did, e.i. Bats as a poacher-ish type and Costa /Lukaku as a target man. Anyone else think so?

    A) Mahrez, Townsend, 4.5 defender
    B) KdB, Redmond, 4.0 defender

All academic for now, but just not sure if I should get KdB or not.

I guess you have Kun so skipping KDB shouldn't be too bad. I'm a fan of having a playing bench so a 4.5 defender is better than a 4.0 one.

    Help me out please guys:

I'm considering WCing after GW3 and thus planning my team accordingly (so for only the first 3 weeks). My reasoning is that I always WC early anyway so I may as well plan for it and it will be the best chance to earn value since there will be the most active users and thus more transfers. Do you think its a good idea or not?

    Cheers

      That's good logic, yes.

But you can't say if you will use your WC for sure. What if all your GW1 team do well?

thats true but I'm basing my team until gw3 so it may do well but it will need a lot of changes after

Your about 15 players short at the moment, other than looks like a great first draft, plenty of flexibility and opportunities still open to you!

Looks good. Although at the moment you're fielding 12 players. Presumably you're benching Dawson/Soure?
I'd recommend changing De Gea for another keeper, given that you have Shaw. Not a fan of doubling up on defences. Perhaps Courtois...

    Thoughts on my team folks

    Courtois
    Fuchs Morgan Baines
    Xhaka Ayew Firmino Willian
    Costa Vardy Aguero

    Subs
    Hennessy Amat Hojbjerg Paredes

Agree with all ten points, but struggling to find a way to get Aguero in team. Could you please rate my team...I have £1m left to spend...

    Foster (Heaton)

    Wimmer, Shaw, Collins (Evans, Souare)

    Hazard, Martial, Eriksen, KDB, Fenghouli

    Lukaku, Wilson (Berahino)

    Thanks,

    Question:

Is it not better to have KDB instead of Aguero? Saves a lot of money, KDB scores a lot of goals, and will presumably assist a lot of Aguero's.

    It's currently:

    a) KDB with Lukaku up front (Everton have good first fixtures)
    b) Sterling with Aguero up front...

Option a allows for better defence too.

Get both Kun and KDB for the double whammy

Out of those 2 options, it's A all day.
I'm planning to have both KDB and Aguero. Might not even keep KDB, in fact I'd prefer not. My thinking is this though - I'm not sure which of the 9.5 midfielders is going to start the season well... I'm not sure that KDB will either... but if I have him, I can afford any midfielder in the 9.5/10 bracket very easily, even if their price has risen by 0.1.
Same principle applies with Aguero, though it's unlikely that I'd remove him from my squad.
