The Stock Check – Gameweek 6 – Sunday

West Ham’s dire form shows no sign of abating, as Southampton march into the London Stadium and take three points, with Charlie Austin amongst the goals once again. Here’s the Stock Check from Sunday’s encounter….

On the Rise

Charlie Austin
Having scored four goals in the previous three across all competitions, the Saints striker was granted a second Premier League start of the season by Claude Puel. Austin vindicated that decision with the opener and also supplied the assist for Dusan Tadic’s goal; he is clearly in the midst of a hot streak right now.

With Leicester City, Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool in the next six, though, the fixtures are hardly in his favour.

Dusan Tadic
After a slow start to the season, the Serbian continues to build momentum. Tadic opened the campaign with a trio of blanks but has since served up points in each of the subsequent three. Assists against Arsenal and Swansea City were followed up with an ice-cool finish against the Hammers as the Saints chalked up a fourth straight win in all competitions.

Ryan Bertrand and Cedric Soares
It’s back-to-back clean sheets for the Saints in the Premier League after keeping out Swansea City last weekend. Ryan Bertrand earned his first attacking points of the season with an assist for Austin’s goal, while Cedric Soares mirrored his fellow full-back for bonus with two apiece.

The duo have now served up 18 and 17 points respectively in the last couple of Gameweeks as Puel’s approach finally takes hold.

In Decline

Dimitri Payet
Much was expected of the Hammers today, from what was the first of four home matches in six. While Michail Antonio’s kinder price may persuade some to hold ahead of visits from Middlesbrough, Stoke City and Sunderland, the premium priced Payet may well be seen as surplus to requirements. Yet to score in the league so far, he has been subject to more transfers out than any midfielder this term and that trend may well continue in light of today’s uninspiring display.

Michail Antonio
Antonio’s stock also takes a dent following the tactical tweaks from Slaven Bilic. With the Hammers chasing the game, Bilic replaced Håvard Nordtveit with striker Ashley Fletcher on 71 minutes. Antonio was then shifted to become an attacking right-back – a move which could become familiar should West Ham find themselves in a similar scenario again. Given their form, that seems likely.

James Collins
The Welshman’s run in West Ham’s first XI came to an end after he dropped out of the squad today. Having started each of the first five, Collins – who rose to 9% ownership in FPL – was clearly earmarked as the fall guy, with Winston Reid returning to partner Angelo Ogbonna at centre-half. Today’s capitulation may well force another rethink, though – the Hammers have now shipped 14 goals in the last four.

So Payet. What to do? Ship him out? I was planning not to make any transfers this week, but the West Ham game killed me.

    Payet & Collins Out

Bellerin & Sterling/Coutinho in (i have Aguero and Mane).

Do this for a -4? I know Boro is not a strong team, especially in defense...but West Ham are just as bad.

    Decisions decisions...

BOT, did you saw the West Ham game? The team looked horribel, Payet looked kind of bored...wish i hadnt seen that.

The thing is...Sterling is going to rise. Coutinho probably will rise...Can't take another 1 from Payet...he's a 9.4 guy

next GW transfer when I'll have 2FT's and Ibra will have played Stoke:

    Option A:
    Fer & Antonio > Mane & Firmino
Ibra > 6.6 or less striker
    -4 pts for those 3

    OR
    Option B:
Also downgrade Baines or Valencia to allow a more expensive Striker to replace Ibra (another 4pts.)

Bournemouth still not a team scoring enough goals for their striker to be considered when Austin costs less and is in hot form

Any other Hazard owners left or is it just me?!

Hull away, vs Sterling or Coutinho in to double up with Kun/Firmino?

Hazard's appearance in the Goals Imminent has me mindful of holding, but I only have 0.4m leeway to get the two above and move on Hazard and Antonio when the time comes...

Got to sit on it being a European week anyway I guess...

Three teams have scored 15+ goals already. One has 12, the rest 10 all below. Really feels like there's just three attacks we should consider right now...

What to do with United defence?

I'm looking medium term here - do we think Mou will bring a run of clean sheets together that make Valencia worth keeping?

Can't really afford anything above 5.5, so Arsenal is out the window. Vertonghen is a possibility, but not keen on their fixtures in a few weeks. City have some fantastic fixtures, but wary of going near them. I think I might plump for Clyne GW9

Anybody still sticking with Stones for the upcoming gameweeks? I'm considering using my FT to swap him for Monreal since I still have 1 mil in the bank; nevertheless, I would also like to get rid of Collins, might swap him for Holebas and bench Stones for now. What would you reckon is the best way to go? My other defenders are Valencia, Baines, Amat.

That's what I'm worried about, but surely those clean sheets should start coming at one point in time... it's just that arsenal seem likely to pick up a couple of cs in the next few weeks, and none of my defenders have proven to be reliable in that respect so far this season

What would you do with this midfield? Playing 3-5-2 but happy with Capoue.
    Sanchez, Capoue, Payet, Antonio, Lamela.
Thinking Lamela to Lallana this week then Payet to Stering the following week. Also, keen to get Son for Antonio. Most pressing got to be Lamela then think about WH duo after Boro game?

On a Wildcard this week.....started pretty well and on 347 points. However, i've made an error in terms of locking in some team value so struggling to get exactly who i want....this is my team so far...problem is i only have 10.1m left to fill the last two positions. Any suggestions or do i just need to cut one more big hitter out? Im trying to gain a couple of hundered thousand by playing the gainers this week.

    Forster, Pickford
    Stones, Holebas, Lovren, Coleman, Kosceilny
    Walcott, Sanchez, Sterling, Couthino, BLANK
    Deeney Aguero BLANK

downgrade forster to heaton allows you to get Austin and a 4.3 mid, or can downgrade deeney to rashford and get a 4.4 mid, personally think hojbjerg has good potential after playing well and the full 90 yesterday.

    Forster -jakupovic

    Valencia , williams , stones - Evans , friend

    Sanchez , coutiniho , sterling , Redmond , capoue

    Aguero , Costa - gray

What do people think? Gray the main worry and a little concern over Costa & jokupovic

Thinking gray & Costa out for Defoe and deeny leaving me 2.0 itb to upgrade possibly Redmond next week

Silly decision for Costa? Worried about Chelsea dip and 5th yellow

    Cheers

Having already brought in Bertrand it'd be stupid to swap to Cedric wouldn't it?

Cedric is much more likely to go up in price if and when Southampton get shut outs. It also free ups 400k immediately, which could be spent elsewhere.

I saw Bertrand taking a corner, does he take them all? Cedric looks more likely to get the bonus points and from what I've seen his crossing stats look better.
