Fixtures

Frisking the Fixtures – Gameweek 10 – The Strong

Liverpool and Stoke City catch they eye as we assess the upcoming schedules over the next four-to-six Gameweeks.

The temptation to triple up on the Reds certainly looks strong at this stage of the season, while the Potteries offer obvious value following back-to-back victories and clean sheets.

Liverpool

(cpl, WAT, sot, SUN, bou, WHM)

The Reds avoid all of the current top seven over the next six Gameweeks and, given their current form, there should be plenty of opportunities to plunder Fantasy points at both ends of the pitch.

From an attacking perspective, it’s the Sunderland fixture in Gameweek 13 that stands out, with the Black Cats ranked third for the most shots against from inside the box over the last four, while they’ve also conceded seven times over the same period.

Crystal Palace are another side who’ve shipped seven goals in their last four matches, while West Ham are fifth for big chances (eight) conceded.

Those match-ups appear pretty favourable, then, and even the trickier trips to Southampton and Bournemouth could yield a goal or two for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Defensively, it’s the clashes against West Ham, Sunderland and Watford that potentially look the most profitable, with all three teams having scored just three goals over the last four Gameweeks.

Watford and Sunderland are also joint-second for the fewest shots from inside the box over that time frame, so clean sheets look a distinct possibility.

Bournemouth, Southampton and to a lesser extent Palace offer more difficult match-ups. However, the Reds may still muster a shut-out in one of those away encounters.

Philippe Coutinho, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino will all have their backers over the coming period, then, while at the back, Loris Karius and Dejan Lovren appear to offer the best value, with Nathaniel Clyne the strongest pick should your budget allow.

Stoke City

(SWA, whm, BOU, wat, BUR, ars)

Mark Hughes’ side enter the upcoming period in confident mood following successive victories, and look to have five kind fixtures to help maintain that form.

The Potters have kept back-to-back clean sheets, and the home clashes against Swansea City and Burnley, in particular, appear very favourable. The Swans have only scored four goals in as many matches, while Burnley have netted just once in their three away fixtures.

As already touched upon, West Ham and Watford have struggled for goals of late, while Bournemouth have failed to score in two of their four away trips.

Erik Pieters and Geoff Cameron should continue to offer excellent value as budget options, then, although with Jack Butland edging nearer to a first-team return, it may not be worth investing in Lee Grant at this point. Ryan Shawcross’ double-figure haul against Hull and goal threat from set-pieces could yet prove the best route, given he’s dropped to 4.9.

At the other end of the pitch, the prospects look very bright.

Swansea have conceded the joint-most number of big chances over the last four Gameweeks with 11, while Burnley have shipped three goals in each of their three away matches thus far.

West Ham, Watford and Bournemouth generally feature around the mid section in most of the defensive statistics, so while goals may be harder to come by in these fixtures, the Potters may still profit.

Joe Allen’s value makes him perhaps the favoured choice from the Stoke attack, but Xherdan Shaqiri and Marko Arnautovic could also deliver over the next five Gameweeks.

Also Consider

Leicester City
While the Foxes next six matches (tot, WBA, wat, MID, sun, MCI) are bookended by difficult clashes, the fixtures in between look favourable.

Sunderland and West Brom feature in the top five for shots conceded inside the box over the last four Gameweeks, while the likes of Islam Slimani, Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy should also be able to provide attacking points in slightly tougher matches against Watford and Sunderland.

But with Claudio Ranieri rotating his many forward options, Leicester attackers may still struggle to attract significant investment.

Watford, West Brom and Middlesbrough have created two, three and four big chances respectively over their last four matches, so those clashes offer a good opportunity for the Foxes to register some defensive returns.

Sunderland, meanwhile, have failed to score in three of their last five, so despite the Tottenham Hotspur and Man City matches, it could still be worth considering the likes of Wes Morgan, or the slightly more expensive Christian Fuchs, for our five-man backlines.

Southampton
Saints face four of their next six (CHE, hul, LIV, EVE, cpl, MID) on home turf, and although they face three of the current top six at St Mary’s, their leading Fantasy assets should still perhaps remain in our thinking.

Everton have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last five matches, while Liverpool have only registered one shut-out this season.

With a trip to Hull, who have shipped 19 goals in their last five matches, also on the agenda, the likes of Charlie Austin, Dusan Tadic and Nathan Redmond could all be handy differentials. With club-record signing Sofiane Boufal finally in the mix, though, some may stave off investing until we see how the new boy settles into the first XI.

The fixtures perhaps aren’t quite so appealing from a defensive point of view, with both Chelsea and Liverpool in good goalscoring form.

But Everton have only netted three in their last four, while Hull and Middlesbrough have managed two goals apiece in the same period.

Southampton defenders could be decent options, then, although they may still struggle to provide enough value over the coming spell.

Hull City
The Tigers fixtures over the next six Gameweeks (wat, SOT, sun, WBA, mid, CPL) are very enticing, but their lack of form will deter most from considering Hull assets.

The match-ups against Sunderland, West Brom and Palace are probably the most favourable from an attacking outlook, but as a block of fixtures, Mike Phelan’s side should really fancy their chances of getting on the scoresheet in each one.

There’s a lack of any real viable targets, though, given that Robert Snodgrass is currently an injury doubt with an ankle issue.

Defensively, it’s only the Southampton clash that looks particularly tricky, so in theory, Hull defenders should be in the mix for points in the majority of those ties.

But recent results mean confidence in their defensive assets is pretty low, so it’s unlikely many will turn to the fit-again Michael Dawson until we see some evidence of improvement at the back.

Watford
Walter Mazzarri’s side face two favourable home fixtures (HUL, STO), along with a decent trip to West Brom in the next five, so those holding Watford assets will be more than happy to stick for the time being.

Troy Deeney should certainly be able to get amongst the goals, particularly against struggling Hull on Saturday, while even in the more difficult matches (liv, LEI, EVE), the Hornets skipper is likely to keep providing solid value.

Hull rank bottom for shots in the box and big chances created (zero) over the last four Gameweeks, so that really looks a plum fixture from a defensive standpoint.

Given that Stoke have hit their straps in recent weeks, that no longer appears such a kind match-up, so defensive points could be harder to come by in the other fixtures.

But Jose Holebas’ ability to plunder points at either end of the pitch should mean he continues to offer great value.

Man City
Although City only face two of their next six (wba, MID, cpl, bur, CHE, lei) at home, the short-term prospects at least appear pretty bright.

West Brom have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last six, while Burnley and Palace have best conceded seven big chances each over the last four Gameweeks.

A home clash against ‘Boro also has to be seen as favourable despite their strong performance at the Emirates on Saturday, so City attackers should be able to prosper over the next four Gameweeks.

Picking the right player may prove problematic, though, and with Sergio Aguero struggling for form after dropping to the bench in two of the last three, the likes of perhaps meaning Kevin De Bruyne – if he recovers from a calf complaint – or even Raheem Sterling could come into consideration.

The City backline has proven to be fallible all too often this season, so while the next four matches should on paper see them rack up a clean sheet or two, it’s hard to have much faith in them at the moment.

But John Stones’ 26.1% ownership in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) may as well hold given the strength of the fixtures, in the hope that Pep Guardiola can turn things around. That is, of course, if he retains his starting role in light of last week’s costly error against Southampton.

Thinking about doing Bradley Smith --> Holebas, but is this defence too expensive?

Stones, Shaw, PVA, Cameron and Holebas

Thanks. Having a hard time dropping Stones & Shaw with their fixtures. PVA would maybe be the one to go, but he has Bournemouth away and Hull at home in GW 11 and 12.

I'd do Stones to Holebas. Stones has no attacking returns and City can't keep a cleanie

I get why Stones isn't a very good option, but really having a hard time getting rid of him.

wba, MID, cpa, bur coming up though, so you would expect City to start keeping clean sheets. And for 5.0... Had him since gw 1 and he hasn't had a single return yet, so maybe I am just being stubborn.

Nope. My defense is Bellerin, Rose, Clyne, Holebas, Amat and I'm quite happy with it.

Holebas will give good returns in the next few weeks.

        Very nice defence!

I am really confused about whether it will be worth having 5 "good" defensive options in the coming weeks. It is either upgrading B. Smith to Holebas or downgrading one of the others.

Defence of Koscienly, Bellerin, Holebas, Walker, Amat
Thinking from now on defenders will match the points compared to midfielders and forwards.

Yeah it seems like the clean sheets are starting to revert back to a normal frequency with the added bonus of the occasional attacking returns.

For me the issue is whether to upgrade B. Smith or downgrade one of the others to get the cash to do Snoddy -> Lallana.

Stones place at risk, Cameron won't be a good option soon, and PVA will struggle for CS all season. Will be banking on attacking returns..so it's tough to say. I'd drop stones personally.

            Ouch :/

Hadn't really considered that Stones' place was at risk before today.

Why do you think Cameron won't be a good option?

Based on Stokes form prior to their good run of fixtures, Butland being back may help that though. And the fact they are playing well might help them continue good form into tough fixtures. So I wouldn't drop him if I had him, for me I chose Holebas over a stoke defender.

Need to replace Snodders and have quite a bit ITB at the moment.

    What looks better?

    a) Snodrass ➡ Coutinho, leaving only 0.1 in funds

    b) Snodgrass ➡ Someone cheap, such as Allen or Stanislas, meaning I still have funds to get Hazard, KDB or Sanchez later

    Current midfield is: Firmino-Walcott-Chadli-[Snodgrass]-Capoue

    Defoe > Wilson
    Coleman > Pieters
    Capoue > De Roon
    Snodgrass > Coutinho

    It will leave me with...

    Grant/Pick
    Walker - Bellarin - Holebas/Pieters
    Sanchez - KDB - Walcott - Coutinho
    Aguero - Wilson - Austin

    Grant/Pick - Hol/Pie - Dr Room - Amat

I think it sets the team up nicely (if a little costly). Any thoughts?

I don't like the move but I don't really hate it either. Costa has looked fixture proof, but Lukaku is more likely to score this week. So taking a hit to get Lukaku out can hurt you. Can't afford Snodgrass -> cheap mid like Redmond/Shaqiri?

I'd like to have Redmond, but those 0.3m would further cripple the defence and I'm not selling Sanchez before Sunderland. I basically can't sell anyone else than Costa/Lukaku and if I just get Austin, it gives me so much options to upgrade the whole team.

Knowing when to jump off is key 😛 I think he's been good to me, now it's time to upgrade the rest of the team.
Could also do without Lukaku actually.

Why not wait until 5th yellow? Chelsea is on fire. I dont have him but probably getting him soon after ban, if he gets one haha.

Might just wait for the cup games and it'll be solved. Out of the 3, his underlying stats are least good, I think.

Think your better off dropping Kun with that logic. Look at Chelsea's fixtures coming up in a few weeks. You want to pay his increased price then?

Exactly. City's fixtures turn in a few weeks and Chelsea's get better. You will lose value bringing costa in and Kuns price will stay the same..or worse yet if he blanks this week you can expect a drop.
              Just my opinion!

Yeah, but that's in 5 weeks. I'd only be losing 0.3m or less imo. Costa's possible ban should stop him from rising and once thier fixtures turn, it's easier to just get Hazard.

Fair enough. I'm just skeptical about Kun and am opting to go with KDB instead for value. If chelsea score Costa most likely to be involved. I can see goals in everton spurs and city game. Define "tough" fixtures for a team in arguably pretty good form vs city's lack there of.

4 goals and as a striker he wasn't involved on Sunday, it's happened to me before with Sanchez and Firmino. 🙂
I'm thinking the form should turn again soon, City's fixtures haven't been easy lately.

    Good to go?

Who to captain? Liverpool or Deeney punt? Or will Kun be back?

    Schmeichel
    Valencia / Pieters / Friend
    Sanchez / Redmond / Coutinho / Firmino
    Aguero / Deeney / Lukaku

    (Jaku / Capoue / Evans / Kinglsey)

I feel bad for Capoue on bench vs Hull. Could backfire.

    Pick
    Bellerin, Walker, Holebas
    Sanchez, Firm, Allen, Capoue
    Aguero, Lukaku, Rashford
    Jak, Townsend, Lovren, Amat

Need to get rid of Jak, Amat and Townsend but probably best to wait until 2FT.

Bit hesitant taking such a huge hit, but team would be:

        Heaton Pickford
        Bellerin Clyne Holebas Evans Amat
        Sanchez Coutinho Firmino Walcott Allen
        Aguero Benteke Austin

Getting a bit annoyed with the whole will PVA play/wont he stuff, also Sunderland really are awful

Agreed with PVA - it is pretty frustrating.

I like the transfers even though I am not sure the hits will be payed of short term plus it will give you quite a benching headache in my opinion (unless you don't plan to play Allen at all).

          I wouldn't take a -8 for the transfers though.

    Repost for Payet-ers:

Are Payet's 4 fixtures from GW12 enough to justify taking him out? Had him for a number of weeks now, incl the 2 double assist weeks, and he's pretty fixture proof IMO, even with that West Ham team. Can absolutely make the argument about value, but his scores are pretty good, and that 13% ownership has hardly budged since season-start -> mostly casuals. Usually good for bonus once he gets an assist/goal. Waiting for the trademark freekicks to kick in.

The fixtures certainly look it on paper, but how did he do against these four teams; Spurs, Man Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool, last year?

    Arsenal: 1 assist
    Spurs: 1 assist
Man Utd: 1 goal, 2 assists
    Liverpool: 1 assist

Not a bad return rate at all. Only one I'd really even think about benching him is the game against Spurs, but even then Spurs are only conceding against set pieces, which is where Payet excels. Same with Liverpool, who are vulnerable from set pieces.

    9, 10, 1, 10, 3, 7 in his last 6 gameweeks, I don't see any real appeal in taking him out.

    1. Pierce34
      • 8 Years

Payet is fixture-proof in my opinion, it's the other West Ham players I'm worried about.

Well i was planning on taking him out for GW 12, but decided for some strange reason (mainly booze) i would switch him out for Mane for this week. Will probably bring him back for the Stoke game depending how well he does against Everton and how well Mane does against palace.

In the last few weeks I´ve hit rock bottom in FPL. Three weeks below 40points (this never have happened me before). Team looks like this:

    Heaton/Robinson
Valencia, Lovren, Smith (Bou), McCauley, Amat
    Sanchez, Sterling, Son, Milner, Fletcher
    Defoe, Lukaku, Aguero

    1 FT
    1ITB
I´m considering Defoe > Deeney and captaining him. Mby do Aguero > Deeney and cap Deeney?

Please help? Also longterm tips is welcome.
