Dugout Discussion – Southampton vs Leicester City

Sunday eases us back into the Gameweek 22 action with a tie that, in truth, offers scant interest for Fantasy managers.

Viable and consistent assets have largely been a rarity within the Southampton and Leicester City ranks, although today’s midday kick-off does at least grant us the opportunity to scout out a pair of emerging Saints assets.

With Jose Fonte’s departure to West Ham United now confirmed, Maya Yoshida is currently unrivalled for his starts alongside Virgil van Dijk in the Southampton backline. The Japanese international starts his seventh successive match in all competitions today, and at just 4.2 in the Fantasy Premier League, he would represent an obvious value route.

However, Claude Puel’s defence is without a clean sheet in five Gameweek outings, suffering defeats in their last four.

Jay Rodriguez is the other Southampton candidate on view. Still struggling to cement regular starts, he will get another opportunity to further his stock as a 6.3 midfield option, deployed in a central attacking role by Puel.

Elsewhere, the performance of Dusan Tadic could also be of interest.

The Serbian earned recognition in our Spot the Differential article for Gameweek 22, having fired in seven goal attempts in the defeat at Burnley last weekend.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Looking for a 7.6 or under midfielder to bring in for Hazard.

    A) Pedro
    B) Sigurdsson
    C) Barkley/Mirallas
    D) Anyone else?

Tempted by Sigurdsson myself. Fixtures don't look too bad besides Chelsea imo. Saints and Leicester in the next 2 home games - both poor away and VVD possibly out. What do you think?

Yeah, short term an Everton mid looks good but I honestly think Swansea's fixtures are better in the next 6 or so games. Those green colours are misleading - Stoke, Boro and Spurs away in the next 5 for Everton. Plus, I'll have Baines and Lukaku too (probably should have mentioned that!).

God, why did I end up with both Phillips and Stan in my team? I knew all last week getting both was the worst move possible but I thought Phillips surely has to haul against Sunderland. Now, I'm in a damn mess with their 2 pointers.

I bottled it doubling up on Rondon/Phillips. Silly me, West Brom's scoring is distributed.

I've had double Brom defence (Foster + BigMac) since the start, Have Phillips as well, at least he'll get the cleanie point so better option than Rondon or Stanislas imho

i'm comfortable with them at the moment.
Phillips still has form & fixtures.
Stanislas lot of home games coming up but I've got plenty of rotation to cover his away games.

I got both, and feel good about it. People's reactions are weird. In my team they're competing for a spot with Defoe and 5 decent defenders. It's your fault really if you're depending on them every week when you don't have faith in them, sorry

At least you didn't captain Phillips cos he did great at home when you last captained him 😉

    Best move here lads?

    Valdes Jaku
    Walker Alonso Evans Chambers Amat
    Sanchez Hazard Eriksen Phillips Fletcher
    Giroud Ibra Defoe

2 Ft 2.2 in the bank.

    Thinking Hazard + Evans ---> Alli + Baines/Brunt/Coleman

Good short term options but probably worth waiting to see how Saints v Liverpool 2nd leg goes midweek - if Saints win, Arsenal blank GW26.

Yes - points against Hull don't make up for 1 goal in the last 8 games (which was a penalty) from a 10.4m player.

Depending how today goes is it madness to consider Costa>>Kane for 2weeks then back again ??

Costa-- liv, ARS, bur, SWA, WHM

    Kane--sun, MID, liv, STO, EVE

Waste of two transfers. Either are great against any opposition.Pool defence is abysmal and no Skrtel for Costa. Gunners defence not amazing.
