The ScoutCast – Episode 212 – Forearmed

And so it begins. This is our time – the period of the season where the hours of planning and strategising lay the foundations for big hauls to come.

Blanks and double Gameweeks are looming, and we’re clearing our heads in preparation to embrace the variables and manoeuvrings they present. We’re not sure if we’re going to be able to fully exploit them, but we’re certain that, should we fail, it won’t be for a lack of planning.

Guided by your questions, it all starts here, in this latest episode of the ScoutCast, where Jonty and Andy join me to pick through the early “known unknowns” and lay down the groundwork.

Elsewhere in the episode, we overcome Jonty’s “cow on the line” incident to embark on some formation dancing; considering the shift back to 3-4-3 and, once again, entertaining the idea of a big spend in defence.

This episode of the ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday night. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

This is a tempter to be sure. Is Schlupp not a threat or is he a midfielder?

Palace can't defend but have defenders who can score goals. So they purposefully bring in a defender that Sunderland fans to a man will tell you can't defend but can score goals.

      Clever, that!

Misses the odd game to rotation but is first choice. Can't imagine him dropping out much in short term given how depleted they currently are at back.

See below. I think Jones will be LB short term. Played there before for West Brom. Lescott won't be fit enough yet.

Have 2 FT's so need to use one, what to do?

    Grant
    Baines Rose Brunt
    Sanchez Alli Stanislas Coutinho
    Kane Lukaku Giroud

    Randolph Phillips Smith Chambers

    0.3ITB.

Obviously Chambers is injured but still may just keep him? Worth taking Smith out for Yoshida?

    Any suggestions?

How I see us lining up against Spurs:

    Manonne
    Love Denayor O'Shea Jones
    Larrson NDong Rodwell Honeyman
    Januzai
    Defoe

That's if he sticks to same shape as West Brom. Or it could be:

    Same defence
    Ndong
    Rodwell Larrson
    Borini Defoe Januzai

    Either way pretty desperate times.

Lescott criminally overweight at moment. Needs a few weeks to lose the flab.

Ah my bad. Totally forgot Kone back now too. Stick him at back and denayor in midfield with Larrson/rodwell/honeyman/borini dropping out.

Hull look like they're trying to make a fight of it.

I think Ellis Short at this stage is just determinto takr

...sorry, fat finger syndrome there. I was saying that I think Ellis Short is just determined to take the p*ss out of Sunderland fans before they finally bid adieu to the Prem.

No other logical explanation for it.

Hey guys. Not been on here for a little while.
I'm hunting for a Chambers replacement - I can go up to 6.1m, but the cheaper the better really. I already have Williams, Alonso and McAuley, so not sure about doubling up on Everton or WBA defenders. Any suggestions?

If you don't want to double up Valencia has some good fixtures but will miss out on the blanks. Cresswell and bench him this week?

Thanks mate. Valencia does look good but the blank puts me off. I'm not sure I can trust West Ham defence. Maybe doubling up is the best option, i'm just unsure about putting my eggs in the same basket

    Vertonghen replacement
The Chambers injury has me looking for a cheap replacement.

While Brunt is good with the fixtures I already have Dawson. A double up isnt ruled out.

However with Vertonghen injury a cheap Spurs defender looks plausible. Davies is the favorite?

Poch wasnt really helpful "We have Ben Davies who can play there, [Kevin] Wimmer is a centre back, who played recently against Aston Villa and Watford and Cameron [Carter-Vickers]."

Certainly for the next game, but its dodgy in the mid term. In my head Rojo is more likely to lose his place though.

Too sideways, United to potentially blank in 28 as well as 26. When you remove Jones look to bring in an Everton or West Brom defender

Crystal Palace transfer business has been prettty peculiar, Interesting and a little baffling so far

left backs and Left wingers in the squad now.
    -PVA
    - Schlupp
    -Souare
    -Fryers
    -Zaha
    -B.Sako
    -Townsend
with Players like Ward and Delaney thay can also play Left backs

More I see now players like Left backs are signed first by seeing them as attacking threat rather than if they can defend or not
PVA Schlupl have been signed on good fees plus Zaha is a shoo-in in the team
and maybe they even sign Robbie Brady

Florian Jozefzoon is a decent signing for Brentford. He did look like a really talented winger a few years back, before losing is way a bit.
