FFS – League & Cups Round-up

Sunday’s goalfest brought the curtain down on the 2016/17 season, giving us time to assess the main performers in our Fantasy Football Scout leagues and cups over the last 10 months of domestic action.

The Fantasy Football Scout League

Jon Pears claimed top spot in the Fantasy Football Scout league in Fantasy Premier League after serving up 94 points in Gameweek 38.

Captain Harry Kane contributed 34 points and was joined by Manchester City trio Gabriel Jesus, Leroy Sane and Kevin De Bruyne, who delivered a combined 26 points in the 5-0 rout over Watford.

In his eleventh season as an FPL manager, John also has Philippe Coutinho, Gary Cahill and Petr Cech to thank for a further 20 points as he climbed into fifth spot in the overall standings. That’s a career-high rank, with his previous best placing 1,029 back in 2012/13.

David Brundish grabbed the runners-up spot after returning an outrageous 304 points in the final two Gameweeks of the season.

After picking up 186 points in Double Gameweek 37, David unleashed his Triple Captain chip on Harry Kane for Spurs’ 7-1 hammering of Hull Cuty and was rewarded with 51 points from the Golden Boot winner.

De Bruyne, Jesus and Coutinho were joined by Alexis Sanchez, Dele Alli, Ben Davies and Willy Caballero as David delivered 118 points to end the campaign as Australia’s number one FPL manager.

In his eighth year playing the game, David’s late rise in the rankings earned him eighth spot overall – bettering a previous high of around the 51,000-mark in 2014/15.

Jatin Arutla was the only other member of our top five to end the campaign with a three-figure tally.

India’s number one ranked manager called upon captain Kane along with Sanchez, Jesus, Alli and Davies, and also had Junior Stanislas, Pedro and Romelu Lukaku to thank as he picked up 105 points in Gameweek 38.

Josh King’s social media post, alerting us of his injury prior to yesterday’s teamsheets, clearly helped Jatin – he swapped out the Norwegian for his Cherries team-mate Stanislas with just one minute remaining before the Gameweek 38 deadline.

A ninth-place position betters Jatin’s top rank of around 69,000 (achieved in 2014/15) in his previous four seasons of playing.

In fourth place, Ogie Nolan had a number of the usual suspects on board.

The likes of captain Kane, Jesus, Sanchez, Alli, Coutinho and Caballero were joined by Christian Eriksen’s pair of assists away to Hull to help Ogie earn 97 points in the final round of fixtures.

He ended as the second-placed manager in Ireland on his way to 12th overall – this is the second successive season he’s finished inside the top 1,000 in a 10-year FPL career.

Mervyn Glasgow’s decision to opt for Diego Costa over Kane as his captain proved decisive as he dropped to fifth in the FFS league.

The Spurs fan also overlooked Kane with the armband for Double Gameweek 37, opting instead for Sanchez. He headed into Sunday’s finale in sixth place overall but dropped back to 14th after returning 78 points.

Mervyn also had Jesus, Alli, Sanchez, Caballero and Eden Hazard in his XI and opted to make no transfers for the final round of fixtures.

This was, nonetheless, his most impressive finish to date in 11 seasons of playing FPL – Mervyn’s previous high was 1,246 in 2011/12. He also claimed first place as Northern Ireland’s best performing FPL manager.

The Fantasy Football Scout Members League

World number six Ben Pearson rose to the top of our members’ league in the final day thanks to a score of 99 points.

Ben opted to captain Coutinho at home to Middlesbrough and was rewarded with a total of 20 points from the Liverpool playmaker, while the likes of Kane, Jesus, Sanchez, Eriksen and Caballero were also among his starting line-up.

City skipper Vincent Kompany and Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin proved the differential picks, combining for a further 21 points after both were in the goals yesterday afternoon.

Ben finished the season as Switzerland’s number one ranked manager to chalk up a career-high rank, having ended a very respectable 1,251 in the previous campaign.

The aforementioned David Brundish and Ogie Nolan took second and third respectively and were joined in the top five by Billy Ketsu and Kristian Rudd.

Sky Sports Fantasy Football

Congratulations go to Matthew Jones, aka Numb, who finished top of our Sky Sports league with a total of 2,971 points – sitting just 28 points off the summit, he ended second in the overall rankings.

Niall Murphy grabbed the Scout league runners-up spot with 2,958 points, which was enough to claim third overall.

Nigel Dodds’ total of 2,936 points was third in the Scout league and joint-sixth in the world, while Ian Cox – aka Cheesoid – (2,929 points, eighth overall) and Oliver Brown (2,917 points, tenth overall) complete our top five performers.

Sky Sports have pledged to pay out £1,000 to the winner of our Scout league, while our top five will also share £1,000 between them as we also won the League of Leagues for the fourth successive season.

The Fantasy Football Scout Cups

Simon Bennett, aka Sleepysi, is the new winner of the Fantasy Football Scout open-to-all competition after defeating former FPL runner-up Kelvin Travers or “K3lvin” on overall rank alone.

Both were tied on 103 points in Gameweek 38, though Sleepysi emerged victorious as he ended the campaign in 460th spot, whereas K3lvin came in around the 57,000-mark.

The duo both went into Sunday’s showdown owning a handful of shared picks, including Kane, Jesus, Sanchez and Alli. In terms of final differentials, K3lvin had Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Leroy Sane, Ben Davies and Hazard while Sleepysi had Eriksen, Coutinho and Pedro on board.

Ultimately, it came down to a question of captains and K3lvin’s decision to opt for Sanchez – and not match Sleepysi’s choice of Kane – was the deciding factor.

Sleepysi is the 14th winner of our open-to-all cup and joins a growing list that includes donnellc, Jonty, Gribude, Goonerdave, Ninja_Fit_Saints, sleeping master, Mch, Wild Rover, Tdubb05 , CMIFLFC, Mark, Leon Harris and A Manager Has No Name, who edged past Moin in our first FFS open-to-all cup of 2016/17 earlier in the year.

In the third-fourth place play-off, Choppers13 (aka Adam Hopcroft) defeated My Pretty Pony (aka Peter Kouewenberg) by 92 points to 90.

Our FFS Members’ cup also concluded on Sunday and was another hard-fought battle, with Malaikat Jahad getting the better of Kristoffer Asp or “Aspern” by 89 points to 88.

Malakait’s final transfer – swapping Alli for Eriksen – almost cost him the crown and came at the loss of two FPL points, while Aspern’s final trade, which saw Hazard replaced by Coutinho, gained him a single point in a very narrow defeat.

Malakait joins a cast of former FFS Members Cup winners that also includes Waltzingmatildas, Fuzzy Dunlop, Kippax Kickers, Acquafresca, Trigg and Ola Svanheld.

In the third-fourth place play-off, Barwood (aka Steve Barwood) defeated Dynamic (aka Connor Richardson) by 106 points to 94 to win a £50 Amazon voucher.

Both cup winners receive a £200 Amazon voucher, while the runners-up can console themselves with a £100 Amazon voucher. The victors in the third/fourth place play-offs collected £50 Amazon vouchers.

FanDuel Beat The Scout Contest

We also offered the chance to win cash in a final day FanDuel contest.

Essentially, everyone who bettered the score produced by the team of Mark and Jonty in the Beat The Scout contest was entered into a draw.

Razor500 was the manager to emerge victorious after a hectic Sunday afternoon – he receives £50 cash for his day’s work.

He scored an impressive total of 334.75 points for Sunday’s matches – Spurs pair Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min supplied 97.75 points between them, while Liverpool duo Philippe Coutinho and Georginio Wijnaldum chipped in with a combined 84.75 points.

Congratulations to all those involved and here’s hoping to another successful season next time around – roll on August 12.

Just seen the mods league, shocked Spencer didn't get 10k. Was expecting him to make it with ease considering he had the WC and all the big boys delivered.

Somewhat fitting he missed out though. Armband on ANY of his other 14 players in the disaster GW would have been enough to finish in 10k.

Ah it is like when Ken Doherty missed the black off it's spot for a 147.
He ended up being more famous for that then anything else.

It gives spencer more notority at the very least!

Harry Kane scored more goals (29) than Middlesbrough (27) from 241 fewer shots (110 versus 351)

Dismal season from Boro. Tight enough at the back but no ambition.

This season has been a good bit of business though. They have not spent much and go back to the Championship tens of millions of pounds better off. They can rebuild and give it a better shot next time.

        What about that boy though

Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero became the fourth and fifth player to score 20+ goals in three consecutive Premier League seasons (after Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry and Ruud van Nistelrooy).

Yeah, it's an amazing performance by a player who gets his head down, gets on with it, loves scoring and loves the game. I have so much time for him, especially in comparison with so many of his peers.

So near yet so far, 4th in the Members' Cup!

If I wasn't totally neutralised by my opponent in the semi-final so that we had no differences in our team (and he progressed on overall rank), I would have progressed to the final and my score would have been good enough to win the cup.

Ah well, pretty happy with my finishing rank well inside the top 5k 🙂

In terms of FPL it's mostly just the FFS League and the FFS Members League, the codes to which will be available in pre-season. The cup competitions happen during the season and are promoted by a number of articles at the time.

For Sky and other games I'm a bit less informed 🙂

Thanks to everyone's help to grab runners-up and 8th in the world. If the DGW's don't look great next year to use the TC chip, I'll use it in the final GW again and think others should given the amount of goals usually scored in the final round.

Whoever is running the FFS Dugout leagues, you should be able to remove dead teams.
I'm not sure how promotion, relegation and the consolidation of leagues for next season works.
But prior to this, can you please remove anyone who scored zero points?

It's a great game when it's competitive and there're no dead teams and I would have expected that from the FFS leagues.

Yeah, not sure if that's something FFS controls or the DugoutFC guys themselves. It's a good point though, the dead teams should be cleaned up.

I've asked them in terms of leagues with promotion / relegation where it's a particular problem but also

        https://www.dugoutfc.com/how-to-play#sackings

        Gameplay: Manager Sackings
Dugout FC now allows league owners to remove idle managers. Please use this feature responsibly as sacked managers cannot be re-instated. The quality of your Dugout FC experience is in your hands.

Managers can be sacked by league owners from the ‘Edit League’ screens, access the ‘Manage Teams’ tab & find the manager you wish to remove.

When a manager is sacked, the team will be removed from the league. Any matches that have been played up until the point of the sacking will be maintained, any points earned and lost against the sacked manager will also be maintained. Fixtures going forward will be recreated without the sacked manager(s).

When a manager is sacked their team is removed and their players will be put in the Contract Expiring list. As with the existing Contract Expiring feature, managers are able to offer these players a contract and the player will choose which team to join, their decision is random.

            Yeah it's shocking.
The 70 leagues look awful and the rot starts at league 2 !
Tidied up to a tight group of those who enjoy it would be great and maybe a further cull at the first international break each season.

I really enjoy it because it's so different.

Even in the top division there are 'set and forget' teams which isn't ideal - it's a good game though so if we can trim the fat it could be brilliant.

I have a dead team. It wasn't intentional, I just didn't want to play again this year and assumed that I actually had to actively choose to enter in order to have a team.

this is easily the worst fantasy game I have ever played!

Was in last year's and then this season. Was already annoying about how many dead teams there were (can't be helped I guess).

But actually became a dead team myself this season after a few weeks. It turns out that if you have a player who plays zero minutes in your starting XI then your whole team can score 0 points for the week. This happened to me multiple times, and I noticed the same for various other teams in my league.

Of course I could query with this with the organisers but if they can't be bothered to get simple things right I can't be bothered to help them or to carry on,

If you want to play a draft game just play Fantrax.

United fans, and/or anyone who regularly watches Henrikh Mkhitaryan... What hope is there for him next season?

I was really looking forward to seeing him in the premier league but he doesn't seem to be on the same wavelength as the other players, or they are not sharp enough to appreciate what he tries to do with the ball.

Will he live up to his potential? If so, what needs to change, other than the standard bedding in process? I feel as if United have a gem in him, but how often have we mentioned him over the last nine months?

I asked the same question to myself a couple of weeks back. I watched some of the highlights from his career in Bundesliga and he played in a system that made him shine. In United, he plays in a completely different system and with different responsibilities. Jose is very demanding and you could see that he struggled a bit with the defensive/defending part of the game in the start of the season. I think that we will see a better version of him next season. Especially with more quality in the team.

He's an attacking player, Mourinho is a defensive minded coach. Not expecting any fireworks. Imagine what he could do if he was playing for Klopp instead

Interesting comments, thanks. Looks like you both have a similar take on things. I wonder if he's a bit of a luxury player, a bit like Mata, Coutinho, maybe even Riquelme, who demands the space and time to work wonders, and needs solid defensive support so that he can always take up attacking positions. I think he'd play very well with someone like Kanté in the same team.

I agree with this. He's forced into a system that doesn't fit for him instead of being asked to do what he's good at. He might excel with in time, but a new system takes time, and his injuries didn't help in that regard.

Manchester United will LOSE Europa League final to Ajax… according to a psychic Dutch cow.

A COW famous in Holland for predicting the outcome of football matches has had its say on the Europa League final.

And it’s bad moos for Manchester United fans after the freakishly accurate cow named Sijtje thinks Jose Mourinho’s side will endure defeat in Stockholm.

And ahead of the clash psychic Sijtje, who has a 85 per cent success rate, was let loose to predict who will be crowned Europa League champions.

With two buckets laid out with each club’s emblem stamped on the front, the owner then fills each one up with food. Sijtje is then let out of its enclosure and whichever bucket it eats from first supposedly goes on to win the match.

Arsenal finished 5th, improving their point tally from last season, are only 1pt off a C1 spot (and could well have made it if Lovren's rugby tackle on Banford hadn't incomprehensibly been ignored by the ref) and are still challenging for the FA Cup. Yet their season has been described as pathetic and shambolic.

Spurs have won nothing, didn't really challenge for the league - let's be honest here, Chelsea was untouchable this year, went out of the C1 at the group stage and then eliminated from the Europa by a Belgian side... and are branded as a top club, top coach, best team in the country etc..

Doesn't that speak volume in terms of the chasm in stature/reputation between Arsenal and Spurs? Arsenal being obvious judged by much higher standards, being the much bigger club.

    Discuss..

Arsenal are no doubt the bigger club, but they are in a very vulnerable stage right now.

➡ fans unrest perenially being ignored by the disinterested owners
➡ a manager with way too much power who is way past his best
➡ future of their best players all in doubt
➡ rivals getting stronger by the minute

    3. Sims
      • 7 Years

Really? U are quick to point out arsenal improved on their previous tally but totally ignore that for Tottenham. 86 points is good enough to win the league in most seasons. A GD of +60 is one of the highest ever in the premier league.

Arsenal haven't won the fa cup yet. Spurs simply ran into Chelsea earlier. Could easily have been sours vs Chelsea for the final had the draw gone their way. Expect Chelsea to win

Hapton league was a disappointment for sours but playing away from whl and first season in 4 years played a part. Arsenal getting 1 step further is not a big deal I'd say
Spurs have been far better there is no doubt and this is coming from an arsenal fan

Spurs would appear to be on upward trajectory with a young manager with fresh ideas, young talented and together squad.

Arsenal on the other hand are characterised by disunity. Their manager is inflexible and stubborn despite being groundbreaking 20 years ago. Their stars sulk and want to leave.

Think they're just appearing like theyre going in different directions as it stands. This could change very quickly.

Arsenal are on the verge of a big change, and it is clearly creating a huge amount of uncertainty at the club. Hope they get it right when Wenger goes, very worried that they do a Utd.

I think what it says is that Pochettino's focus this year was 100% on the league, and that was his mandate from when he first started at the club - getting CL football.

Arsenal's season can be split into two halves, with the defining turning point being the Bayern games. Losing 10-2 on such a huge public stage knocked the stuffing out of them. It's interesting how PSG have also failed to win Ligue 1 after their away game to Barca.

Griezmann has just spoken about his future again, this time at a press conference for the launch of his book.

Griezmann: : “If I have to move, it’s not a problem. It can be England, because it’s the trend, Germany China or USA. I’m ready to leave”

Griezmann: “I’ve reached a point where playing nice football and scoring goals isn’t enough. Winning titles, that’s what I’m looking for”

He should go to Bayern. He'll win titles there.

If Griezmann does somehow join United next season, what price would you expect him to come in at?

My rank 74 has stayed for a year there 😛 Seems non-paid member could only see history. Can't assess live update.

haha right. I just rank 3,000th this season, quite hard to shoot to 5th.
          thanks for checking for me.
but how come it does not update to gw38? there is delay on HoF even for members?

Hasn't been updated for a while. It's changed quite a bit especially if you scored over 457 points since GW34.

Most astonishing (and perhaps costly) result of the premier league season:

    Arsenal 0 Middlesboro 0

From an Arsenal perspective, I would also say losing 3-4 to Liverpool, first game of the season, with Chambers and Holding in defence.

Not the most astonishing by a long shot

Boro showed geed defensive resilience at times during the season they pulled off a 2-2 draw with City which was a bigger shock imo

They turned up with no fit 1st team central defenders vs Liverpool in the first game of the season - admittedly being "unprepared" according to Wenger. That has to be the biggest fck-up in a season of mid to large fck-ups.

David Luiz on his page 😛

An investigation is currently ongoing on Chelsea FC arranging with betting companies creating an option for John Terry being substituted on the 26th minute.

The Chelsea captain was subbed to mark his last appearance for the legend and to celebrate his shirt no. 26. Thousands of people have been said to pick the option having gotten the info earlier from an insider in Chelsea.

If found guilty, Chelsea will be stripped off the title, relegated and a further 7 points deducted which will serve as a warning ⚠ to other clubs.

As such, this will see Spurs crowned Champions after a remarkable season and Arsenal back in the UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE.

I think William Hill advertised this at the start of maybe 15/16. 20,000,000/1 or something.

depends which order you put them in, but the odds will be very long in any case due to the number of permutations.

        spurs
        arsenal
        chelsea

what would that be? 5000/1 I mean what range would it be?

Never been on here in pre-season before. I'm really hoping it isn't a load of July RMTs, and is rather a discussion about the relative merits of certain players at their price ranges?
