Next up in our series of in-depth team-by-team members’ articles is Liverpool.

First off, we assess the levels of performance over the previous campaign across the squad, looking for trends and patterns before we check out the Merseysiders’ standout individuals ahead of the 2017/18 season.

That finds us pay particular attention to both James Milner and Roberto Firmino, as we analyse their potential ahead of likely reclassifications in Fantasy Premier League.

Having finished the 2015/16 campaign in eighth position with 60 points, the Reds racked up 76 points in Jurgen Klopp’s first full season at the helm to cement a fourth-place spot.

Liverpool found the net on 78 occasions – the fourth most potent attack in the top-flight, which was up on their tally of 63 goals in the season beforehand.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

He's not as good as RvP was, but I'm very happy. Been waiting half a decade for a mobile striker with quality. 🙂 I really think we'll be a force if we can replace Cazorla as well.

Couldn't have put it better myself. Am very excited! The guy does need pens to get him over 20 - he scored 10 of his 28 last season from the spot - but I'm hoping the dynamic between him, Ozil and Sanchez will be stronger than with Welbz/le donkey in that spot.

I'd play him over Benzema any day of the week.

      Pretty sure he'll be a midfielder. 8.5-9m?

He was 9 last season, have to assume it will be lower than that. If he is a 8m or below midfielder and starting games... I'd be pretty interested in that.

Yes, he'd be worth the extra. Lindelof has no goal threat and his numbers in relation to bonus points aren't promising. Seems like a 6 pointer kind of guy. All conjecture of course.

Yeah Lindelof with 1 goal for last year - albeit a free kick rammed home (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHeAKBL7v-k) doesn't entice me too much, nor does Bailly who equally offers nothing going forward. Both strike me at 6ers as defenders with the occasional bp maybe.

Shelling out for Valencia may be worth him. I think him, Trippier and Dawson are looking like my core back three at the moment.

True, however Bailly has more bonus prowess than Lindelof. Could be decent value of at 5.5?

Perhaps - if 5.5 then perhaps, but I'd prefer Trippier or maybe Bertrand there; bps magnet is great, though. More upside in the other players I've mentioned tho.

Agree. But the French league is easier than the PL. PSG and Monaco may be top sides, but there is a lot of dross in there.

I have said it before - PL is the most competitive big league in Europe and therefore it is the most physically demanding. But competition does not mean they are awesome teams. It is like Wimbledon - it is hard for Murray to win because Nadal, Federer, Djokovic are there pushing him giving him tough matches = more effort. When Sampras was playing it was easier for him because he had less competition. It is why IMO:

      1) League Cup should be scrapped
      2) FA Cup replays should be scrapped
      3) There should be a winter break
      4) PL should be reduced to 18 teams.

Agree with idea in theory and with the Andy Murray bit, but keep the Sampras argument out of it mate, it's not the same. May appear to be the same to a casual, but as someone who's watched a lot of tennis, Sampras had enough competition back then. The courts were much much faster, so the likelihood of an unknown/lower ranked player beating you was also much higher. Racket technology was also much different then and has evolved. Different challenges in different eras. The slower courts, more professional look to the game mean all-round skills come to the fore more, which is why you see the consistency there is and the lack of breakthroughs.

We got lucky with Lyon not making the UCL themselves, the rise of Mbappe took attention away from him and the Atleti ban helped out in a big way.

I think he also felt displacing Giroud at Arsenal might put him in contention of making the WC team

Can anyone with basic computer knowledge take a guess as to why Sky Fantasy Football won't go past the initial loading stage for me. It's the same on Chrome on Android and Windows, as well as Edge and IE.

I suddenly remembered that I gave up SSFF a couple years ago because I had the same problem, but now I have a new laptop and phone. I tried without extensions to no avail, but as I say it's not just Chrome.

Giggs Boson - Analysing clean sheets

Sorry Dreams i dont even know the rules of cricket.

      1. "You have two sides, one out in the field and one in. Each man that's in the side that's in goes out, and when he's out he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out. When they are all out, the side that's out comes in and the side thats been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out. Sometimes you get men still in and not out.

When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him out, and when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in. There are two men called umpires who stay all out all the time and they decide when the men who are in are out. When both sides have been in and all the men have been out, and both sides have been out twice after all the men have been in, including those who are not out, that is the end of the game!"

Alright so I'll quote him since I don't understand any of this lingo and I don't want it lost in translation 🙂

"The 17-44mm is a great choice, if he wants an extra f-stop he can look at the 17-55mm EF-S which is a 2.8 but it's a little more expensive. Canon also sells a 40mm F2.8 prime and a 24mm EF-S F2.8 prime which are very affordable and have the latest focus system in them.

The 16-35mm is the king of wide angle, but that is probably out of his price point.

I have the 17-55mm and I think it is the best walking around lens for its price on an EF-S body"

Dont understand any of that but hope it was helpful, if you've got follow up questions let me know mate

                  He says

"That seems like a bad deal even if it is F2.8 because on Amazon the version 2 is going for £1000 new. It would have to be perfect condition and he would have to not care about not having a warranty. It only saves him £100 pounds and he loses the warranty and risks any problems. The version he would buy used is £1000 new. Add a warranty and it's novelty."

You said wide so I immediately though wide zoom, but in an other comment you mentioned 17-40 which is more of a standard zoom. Find comment below on that range.

Ah. I've always been of the mindset that anything below 24mm is wide and being ultra wide. But then again I'm in a cropped camera.

Yeah. You would be right when talking about a full-frame. But on the cropped sensor, you need to shift the ranges accordingly.

      Just seen your budget.

Leave the Canon 17-40. If you want that range of zoom then better to go for the Sigma 18-35 Art Lens. Although it is a 3rd party lens it blows everyone else out of the water, even the own Canon ones.

If you don't have the other focal lengths covered then the Canon 17-55 2.8 is much better as you will want that extra 15mm of focal length.

Only thing with the 17-55 is that it's not an L series. But that's just me being pretentious.

Word on the street is the 17-55 is the lens Canon forgot to put the red ring on. Performs like an L.

Of course the reason the red ring is missing here is because it is a ef-s lens. That is the sole reason. Quality-wise it is the bomb.

Well, if you are so inclined, then L-series is the way to go.

Photography is always about what you feel is a good image and are satisfied with. It's the feeling you get when you press the shutter and look at the image on the PC. If you are going to be nit-picking and lamenting the lack of the red-ring as the reason your image lacks a bit of contrast here, slight chromatic aberration there, then you are not going to be happy.

And if the red-ring stops you getting that feeling and makes the image seem right, then you got to get the red ring.

                Simple. 🙂

My mate's saying Canon 17-55 2.8 is superb, says he's heard mixed reviews on Sigma 18:35 Art Lens. Says they used to be associated with cheap and poor quality but they've tried to reinvent themselves with the Art line

Sigma did start as the cheap-line of lenses for both of the major camera makers. But the recent Art series have surpassed the camera makers' own brand of lenses. Not just in quality too. Look at the prices, some of them are MORE than the equivalent lenses of Canon or Nikon. That shows you where they are now in the game. And the 18-35 has been around for sometime now. Quite proven and built like a tank if you ask me.

Wonder how many people will be caught out by the Friday 18:45 deadline this season lol (see tweets!)

Can imagine many will log on to do their teams and already see a gameweek in progress... my bet is a record number of GW2 entrants to the game.

This place will be busy with some of the unfortunate few who could get on in time I'm sure too...

      1. Last season isn't this season. I would expect United to improve in that regard.
      2. Even though they didn't score that many it didn't stop Ibrahimovic from being a good option. Lukaku could be the same or better.
      3. Nice fixtures.

It might sound a bit strange but I think he's a much better option for our GW1 teams if at United than if at Chelsea. I was planning to get Pogba but if Lukaku is there and on pens I can't look past him for my initial squad. Much less of a rotation risk than Jesus and Aguero, and proven in the Prem unlike Lacazette (who I fully expect to do well btw). I wouldn't call him essential but what's not to like?

West Ham being linked with every striker going in the 10-25m bracket, some I've no real idea of. Can anyone tell me if the following are any good?

    Lucas Perez

    Yacine Brahimi

The mood is not good anyway. Most fans detest the scattergun approach being taken in recent years and the lack of a clear plan. Plus there's a strong sense that they bluff with bids for top players that they know they won't pay for or have any chance of getting. Only one signing so far, for a veteran right back (Zabaleta) and they had a very poor season last year - could easily have been relegated in a different season.

Many players won't be "Mid" anymore , They will be "Forward" players from now on..
    Mohamed Salah
    Alexis Sanchez
    J. King
    T. Walcott
    M. Arnautovic
    R. Sterling
    Nolito
    Fermino

I've moved away from four at the back due to the points system favouring goals. Likewise keeper clean sheets, so worth getting a keeper who will keep loads, and care less about saves

Good point. Foster should be good for the first 3 fixtures though?

The defenders seem such good value until a budget mid reveals themselves and I can invest more upfront (strikers are SO expensive in the Sky game).

Yep, could get Eriksen over Ozil, but with Kane there too, then maybe Ozil might click this season with Lacazette.

You can also see it with the positions of Zlatan's chances created, their second most creative player. It must have been where the play was directed, rather than being down any particular player, I suppose.

So including Lukaku/Morata, what do we think is United's best/starting 11?
    Something like......
    De Gea
    Valencia Bailly Lindelof Blind/Rojo
    Matic Herrera
    Mkhi Pog Mata/Rashford/Perisic
    Lukaku/Morata

    ?

Well I still think the defence is behind last season's top 4, but with mourinho's tactics, they'll still keep more cleansheets probably.
Mkhi and even Lukaku/Morata would look more threatening at one of the top 4 teams.
So I see what you mean. I'm just trying to workout who's nailed so I can narrow it down to a few options to monitor.
I'm thinking Valencia, Mkhi and Pogba

        Really...where are you?

Been a strange day. Very hot with just three breakaways from the off that haven't been allowed much more than the standard two minute gap....and now being reeled in.

Finish is set up for Kittel and Grieple but Kittel's men really need to do a better lead out for him than a couple of days ago.

The big news is that rain clouds are gathering at the finish and could be a wet sprint.

7k to go. And breakaway down to just 30 seconds so fairly standard stuff.

Team SKY staying a little further back for the finish so it looks like safety first and staying away from the main sprinter teams.

It depends how it develops. For example we have unlimited transfers in our league which makes it spicey as we often play fixtures, moving players in and out. Being able to customise the draft to how managers want to play the game is key to its future success I reckon.

There should be a decline for every striker's output in the harder fixtures - it's just logical.

Everton won't beat many big sides. United are more capable of playing through them and creating chances.

This is the concern for Lukaku at United. Or at Chelsea for that matter. Is he good enough to break down teams that sit deep and get everyone behind the ball? He will have to deal with that far more at a top club than he did at Everton and West Brom.

Technically excellent forwards can make chances for themselves on the turn or by beating a man with individual skill or by having the vision and movement to work that crucial one-two at the right moment. Which top team in world football has a striker that just waits around for a clear chance to come his way? They don't come very often if a well organised defence has everyone behind the ball. Suarez, Lewandowski, Aguero, Kane, Benzema, Costa, etc. are all about to unlock stubborn opposition on their own. Lukaku will need to be able to as well.

I'm not saying he isn't capable but he is afforded more time and space at Everton than he will be at United. As Berb's Forehead said, who really parks the bus against Everton? Smaller teams certainly will against United.

If you take Lukaku's record against the 'big' teams-Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Man city, Man Utd, & Tottenham

2013/14 season: Lukaku scored 5 goals
2014/15 season: Lukaku scored 0 goals against any of the teams that finished in the top 6 last season
2015/16 season : Lukaku scored just the single goal
2016/17 season: Lukaku scored 5 goals

Not brilliant tbh. Last season was good but with Utd's record against the top sides last season, he will need to do more

Pogba has barely ever played CAM and when he has he hasn't been very good. His best position is CM in a midfield three with license to push forward. Maybe not much of a difference but he definitely isn't a #10.

Herrera should be a CM not holding.

Fellaini had to be sold 3 seasons ago

No I absolutely refuse to consider Trollkaku how dare he appeal to me again. After he's flopped for me every time I've bought him in.

FPL will probably go nuts with his pricing anyway.
