The Numbers Game – Tottenham Hotspur

Next up in our summer series of members’ articles, we move to focus on one of the key sources of Fantasy talent – Tottenham Hotspur.

We start by analysing their performance on a team level, assessing last season’s data in order to spot trends and areas improvement. Following that, we drill down into the player data, pinpointing the key individuals.

For this article, we also focus on two specific points of interest for Fantasy managers – assessing the Dele Alli versus Christian Eriksen conundrum, while weighing up the allure of Harry Kane as a “fire and forget” captaincy option.

It’s fair to say that Mauricio Pochettino’s side showed their mettle last season after a disastrous end to 2015/16 saw them pick up two points in the final four fixtures and tumble out of the title race.

Spurs improved their points haul from 70 to 86 and also scored far more goals than beforehand – a total of 86 was far superior to 69 in the previous campaign and more than any team in the top-flight.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Do I try and get in Fraser or just downgrade to him from Willian after a few weeks? If now, how do I get him in?

    Foster / Elliot
Alonso Trippier Daniels Pied / Rangel
Salah KDB Willian / RLC Carroll
    Lukaku Kane Austin

Players not up for debate: Lukaku, Kane, KDB, Salah, Alonso.

    Cheers

That's a good enough team for the first few GWs. I'd watch Pied though, may only start the first gw with Cedric now back in training.

I currently have Ozil, and have had him in every draft...

Not sure whether i should do...

DDG & Abraham to Foster + 4.5 striker to Upgrade Ozil to Sanchez? (have the extra 0.5ITB)

Would have no united defence then, and with their opening fixtures, not sure that's a good thing.

To get a better idea of Lacazette's potential potency home against Leicester, i've decided to analyse Leicester's FIRST premier league games over the last 3 years.

    1) 2016/17

    Hull City 2-1 Leicester City

Leicester got off to a very disappointing start last season conceding two goals to a very poor hull city team who even got relegated while only managing a penalty themselves.

    2) 2015/16

    Leicester City 4-2 Sunderland

Who can forget leicester's miracle season and it started off brilliantly with this rout against sunderland. Once again though they conceded 2 goals and were at home this time.

    3) 2014/15

    Leicester City 2-2 Everton

As you can see, in their first game over last three years, leicester have conceded TWO GOALS in every one

As a result i conclude that arsenal will win against leicester by scoring two goals ----> Lacazette Brace is my prediction. Can't argue the facts.

Being Irish (and having spent the day in Limerick today) I thought we should start a thread for best FPL/EPL/new season limerick. If you're not sure how to write one, google it for a minute, but it will be obvious from my one!

There once was a chap called Coutinho
Whose price was 9 mil which would seem low
    But then Barca sold Neymar
And then needed a new star
So we all chose Salah and watched Phil go

    What’s the verdict here on a £5.0 assured starter in defense with a £4.0 bench fodder versus a £4.5 rotating pair? (Put simpler: £5.0 + £4.0 vs £4.5 + £4.5?)

    This much we know...

Manchester United have conceded 30% less goals in the EPL than any other team this year and the current Champions have conceded 100% more! Ergo, a Man. United defensive stack looks like a bloody shrewd move does it not?

I mean, who else do we REALLY trust in the front third apart from Lukaku (to an extent).

Surely you can't use champions league as a guide as teams are generally stronger. And the 2 biggest pitches in PL last year were Middlesbrough and Hull.

I think I need to follow my gut on this one... the RISK is HUGE!! HUGE I'm telling you. But...

... Jesus + 1M is better than Lukaku in a Mourinho team. There - I said it.

    DDG
    Kolasinac Trippier Daniels Yoshida
    KDB Willian Salah
    Kane(c) Austin Jesus

Elliot - Carroll Cork Suttner (rotates with Daniels)

Thoughts? Could go DDG->Foster and Willian->Pogba(manu cover) although don't believe in coverage, but better fixtures and nailed 🙂

I keep having the same thought but then I go one step further and think Jesus + 2m is better than Kane at Wembley... I must be going mad!!

Valencia of you have the money. May as well
Get DDG over Bailly; about as much goal and assist threat and will save you 0.5m

Valencia, but he's slightly over-priced imo.

I'm torn as well, Val looked unreal yday bombing down the right wing and finally getting some good crosses in

Bailly 0.5m less and baps magnet

sure is, i think Walker can prove to be worth his price tag as well over a punty stones perhaps

spoke to some MUN supporter friends and they reckon no DEF of theirs worth the picks(Lindelof not nailed/Valenica not attacking enough for 6.5 & Bailly although could do well baps wise not offers enough attacking threat but the pick if you do want a DEF), so I'm most likely going with DDG......

Evening all; help me out please?

    A) Kane, KDB, Carroll, Hegazi
    B) Jesus, Eriksen, Mkhitaryan, Dawson

    Got to be B, surely?

For reference, the rest of my team is as follows
    DDG/Elliott
    Kolasinac/Yoshida/_____/Mee/Britos
    _____/Salah/_____/Ricthie/Redmond
    Lukaku/______/McBurnie

Ive never had a fodder player on my bench, and it feels wrong, but there aren't any good 3rd striker options really.

Cheers for any tips, they're much appreciated!

Kelichi, breaker of chains and brother of dragons has finally arrived.

Does he solve the cheap third striker conundrum?

I doubt he'll slot straight in, but he'd certainly be one to keep an eye on.

Yeah, the reason it's like that is because I have Lukaku/Kane/Jesus up top.

Mane and Willian/Fabregas would be better if you can find .5

Your points will come from your strikers so need consistency in midfield.

One of the cardinal sins of ff is preplanning transfers. It is doubly risky to do so after GW1 where you have no form to go on

I can pretty much guarantee you will have one non-starter in gw1 - there's always a surprise. Lose one of Chadli/JRod now in my opinion.

Need to replace either Chadli or J Rod if you're planning a hit for GW2 - if all goes to plan then a starting player gets injured you'll have to take 2 hits in as many weeks right at the start of the season.
