In our final article looking at the player list in the Sky Sports game, we bring you our top targets in attack.

While forwards don’t always offer the best value due to their inflated prices compared to the other positions, they more than make up for that in points.

Or at least the right forwards do.

The three top-scoring players in the game last season were Alexis Sanchez (285), Harry Kane (282) and Romelu Lukaku (248) who, when paired with the armband, were obviously the stand-out options over the course of the season.

They commanded hefty fees back then and do so again now. But skimping at the back and targeting value in midfield should afford us the ability spend the bulk of our cash on an expensive front two or three.

Using our transfer swaps to move the forwards in and out as fixtures and form dictate is also useful, as having expensive place holders means that any single player is potentially just one transfer move away.

It’s been a tried and tested recipe for success in Sky Sports over the seasons and the new overhaul feature appears to only strengthen this strategy.

And if a less expensive forward does challenge the heavy-hitters then we can react, maybe with a direct swap from midfield, although pre-overhaul, it seems foolhardy to take the risk.

As a result, our favorite picks won’t come as much of surprise.

The Picks

Harry Kane – 12.9 – 45.9% – Fixtures: new CHE BUR
Kane is the most owned player in the game, after picking up the Golden Boot last season and doing so in emphatic style, netting seven times in the final two fixtures. In fact, Kane’s record has been stunning since he first graced the Premier League, having scored 78 goals in 113 appearances to date.

He is also one of the few forwards to earn bonus through the shots on target route, picking up 26 points due to his unerring accuracy – the equivalent of five extra goals. The Englishman will be heavily captained pre-overhaul due to all Spurs’ fixtures falling on a Sunday, which makes him all the more appealing. There really isn’t any reason we can see not to go for Spurs’ talisman – unless you buy into the theory that he starts the season slowly.

Romelu Lukaku – 12.4 – 41.8% – Fixtures: WHU swa LEI
Manchester United’s new marquee striker signing scored 25 goals for Everton last term and ended up as the Sky Sports game’s third highest scoring player overall. He also managed four MoTM awards and six assists to supplement this tally. The prospect of playing in a more dominant team this season means that most would expect him to improve further on this total, with over 40% seemingly backing this theory. With a favourable three matches to start the season – and two of those falling on different days to Harry Kane – he offers an ideal front two captain partner for the Spurs assset.

Gabriel Jesus – 12.1 – 9.7% – Fixtures: bha EVE bou
Such is the dominance of Kane and Lukaku in early squad selections that last season’s wonderkid has practically been forgotten, with just over 9% making the swoop so far.

The Brazilian started only eight games (two sub appearances) due to injury after his January arrival, but still managed seven goals, four assists and two MoTM awards. His impact was great enough to leave the mercurial Sergio Aguero (12.8m) with bench duty at times. The duo are expected to start the season together, however, and form a deadly strike partnership. City have also been on fire in pre-season and, should either of the South Americans continue that form in the first three games, we may be forced into picking an incredibly expensive front three.

Alexandre Lazazette – 11.8 – 17.8% – Fixtures: LEI stk liv
Arsenal kick us off on Friday night and perhaps that is a factor behind the Gunners new front man attracting over 17% ownership.

Captain coverage is obviously key in Sky, and the Frenchman looks the best option for that fixture as it stands. Twenty-eight goals in as many starts for Lyon last season is obviously impressive, as is his rate of shooting of roughly 2.8 shots on goal per match.

Alexis Sanchez (12.7m) was the game’s highest scoring player, and if he remains at Arsenal will surely warrant serious attention post-overhaul. But he has been ruled out of the opener and perhaps the two matches that follow, so he has been excluded from our thinking.

Manolo Gabbiadini– 10.3 – 2.7% – Fixtures: SWA WHU hud
The Saints’ fixtures are the main attraction here, with the Italian our stand-out pick on offer.

Opponents Swansea City and West Ham both only managed two clean sheets away from home last season, while the newly-promoted Huddersfield Town shipped 32 goals on their travels in the Championship.

The January signing made an instant impact before tailing off, but he still managed to earn 47 points in just ten starts and one substitute appearance. In reality, it’s hard to look past the pricier options above, but Gabbiadini could yet offer us a cheeky differential at just 2.5% ownership.

Something I've never understood on here is the criticism and fear of doubling up on defences. Or tripling even.

Saw a few messages on recent pages about Southampton x2/3 defence and general view seems its too risky.

Lets say for players at 5.0-5.5 type defences like them, they keep about 12 CS all season. Say Everton maybe similar, Leicester West Brom Stoke West Ham Swansea or Bournemouth maybe 10 or thereabouts. We're talking about a less than 1 in 3 for CS from these types.

Is doubling or even tripling on Saints with those fixtures really that big a concern? Especially when we can WC when the fixtures turn red.

If I have 3 from these sort of teams playing each week and get 1 CS on average, in 3 week spell, thats 3 CSs If I triple Saints, and they get 1 CS, again, thats 3 CSs.

Sure its bad in a given week if they concede and all 3 CSs go but if they don't, your highly rewarded.

The spreading the risk thing isn't that different really as you still generally will get 1/3 CSs. Its more or less just a safety blanket feeling that you might get 1 on a given week. But chances of 3 separate CSs from 3 different teams on a given week is low, so really, it all just balances out.

I don't see why its that highly advised against to avoid doubling or tripling on a side when their fixtures are that good.

Chances are if Southampton end up on 12 CSs, (less than 1/3) theyll get a higher ratio in these opening fixtures. So if you go x2 or x3 now, then flip to another side for x2/3 when their fixtures turn good, surely your likely to get more rewards overall than just spreading the risk across teams when that just balances out anyway?

I'm currently on 2 Southampton defence

It's more of a matter of spreading the risk

you've sold me on this, I was thinking about this before, southamptom are likely to get at least 1 CS in first few GWs, and their defenders are generously priced

            I agree
Im doubling defences almost ever season, even tried to triple it with wbrom
Especialy if those guys have attacking threat
Last year McAuley+Brunt was good for 1 period, but I had Foster too so that was maybe too much
            Going Cedric+Bertrand this season

For me they have to fulfill 3 conditions
-good fixtures for next 5-8 gws
              -low or mid price
              -attacking potential

It's complete nonsense, Sanchez, and you're right to call it. Aside from specific competitions like LMS (thanks Kalmoffit!) over several fixtures you will average the same returns as if you spread the risk across multiple defences. In fact you should do better if you are correct in predicting the conditions which made you consider the double-up in the first place.

I think what the real risk is that Southampton for example don't keep 12 clean sheets or at least not even one for the first three matches. Then it's quite difficult to keep the confidence.

It's mathematically sound to double up, sure. But it IS higher risk/reward in that only one goal can negate both CS as oppsoed to two.

I have 3 myself. Forster and 2 defenders.

The criticism makes no sense really. If they had 3 defenders from 3 different teams and all of them blanked in a GW, no one would care. But if the same happened from 3 defenders from the same team, it's suddenly different. Blanks from defenders happen often, in every team. If other teams' defences/fixtures aren't as appealing as Southampton's at 5.0m, why 'spread the risk'? Like you said, chances of 3 separate clean sheets from 3 different teams in a GW is low.

Taken a total break for 2/3 months.. back on today. I'm sure you've all been struggling with the same things - how to afford 3 decent strikers etc. So... first look. How am I doing?

          Foster/Elliott

          KDB/ Alli/ Tadic/ Punheon/ Carroll

          KDB - Willian - Zaha - Fraser - Carroll

Currently have Iwobi and Matic, just because of the strong teams they play for. Always in with a chance of an assist/goal...

Iwobi good for GW 1-2, but I think you can have Carroll (sell Matic) and you have 0,5m to invest in other positions.

I don't think Matic is a good pick. A def mid playing for Utd isn't automatically better than a winger playing for a mid table team like fraser

5.5 price has quite a few possible gems.Fer Murphy Walters Iwobi for starters.
I like Will Hughes at 5.0.
            Fer/Hughes rotate well enough.

I personally don't think Lindelof will start. Mourinho says he needs time, Bailly and Jones look to be the starting pairing for the opening stages, expect that to change when CL starts and Jones picks up knocks.

I don't think Trippier will be fit. Spurs couldn't even assess his ankle after the game because it was so swollen. He had to leave Wembley on crutches and his foot in a protective boot, which is never a good sign.

I know Southampton have good fixtures but I think they might struggle this year with lack of goals and not investing much in defence

Yes. Guardiola has said he won't be rushing Mendy back in any case.

This is what he said a few weeks ago: “He needs two or three weeks. We don't want to take a risk because he is explosive, such a fast guy. He needs to be okay because we have 10 months coming."

Sorry if it had already been discussed but is Iwobi now good enabler for at least first two games with Sanchez out?

          Who's his competion? Wallcott?
