Romelu Lukaku is at the double on his league debut for Man United, while Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan offer able support from midfield. Meanwhile, Harry Kane spurns chances aplenty as Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen steer Spurs to victory at Newcastle.

Lukaku hits the ground running

Perhaps it was a visit from his favourite whipping boys West Ham that ensured a seamless start for Romelu Lukaku at Manchester United.

In a Gameweek where many big-hitters thrived up front, the Belgian didn’t let us down, bullying Slaven Bilic’s side again by scoring twice in a 4-0 rout at Old Trafford.

The most popular player in the game (48%), Lukaku was also the most captained (28%), while over 31,000 opted to play their triple captain on the summer signing.

Although United’s midfield did enough to suggest that they may yet provide us with more budget-friendly options, Lukaku’s immediate impact suggests that, if anything, his 48% ownership looks likely to grow ahead of clashes with Swansea, Leicester and Stoke in the next three.

However, there’s no doubt that the displays of Paul Pogba (goal) and Henrikh Mkhitaryan (two assists, already one more than he managed last season) indicate that United will be a different proposition from the side that scored just 26 times at home in 2016/17.

Indeed, with Nemanja Matic sitting in front of the back-four, Pogba, Mkhitaryan, Juan Mata and Marcus Rashford all registered 27 touches apiece in the final third in the roles behind Lukaku.

While Lukaku will remain the main man for now, Pogba and Mkhitaryan could soon force their way into consideration if Jose Mourinho’s men can build momentum over that kind schedule.

The wing-back system may be Jose’s Plan B

Having utilised a three-at-the-back for a handful of summer friendlies, Mourinho rolled out a 4-1-4-1 set-up against the Hammers.

This was a blow to the 7% owners of Antonio Valencia – impressive as a wing-back over pre-season, he reverted to a right-back berth today.

The most expensive United defensive option at 6.5, we were looking to Valencia as a source of attacking points but he managed just 15 touches in the final third to Daley Blind’s 30 on the opposite flank. Meanwhile, the Dutchman took seven of his side’s 11 corners.

Considering the nature of today’s display, Mourinho will surely be tempted to keep things as they are for Saturday’s trip to Swansea. While a right-back spot doesn’t rule Valencia out of our thoughts, it may force a reassessment of his appeal in the premium defender bracket after the likes of Marcos Alonso and Sead Kolasinac both impressed in the Gameweek.

Frustrated Kane fires a blank

Runner-up in our maiden Captain Poll and second most popular armband pick among FPL managers, Harry Kane left his owners deflated with a one-point return at Newcastle.

Yes, the Spurs frontman’s lack of August Premier League goals continued but this was far from the lacklustre display that saw him fail to register a single effort away to Everton in Gameweek 1 last season.

Six shots – with five inside the box – was top among forwards on both counts. Having struck the woodwork and also had an effort ruled out for offside, Kane could easily have bagged double-figures Fantasy returns on another day.

Granted, there’s no shortage of in-form premium frontmen to consider right now but back-to-back home clashes with Chelsea’s decimated defence and Burnley surely give Kane the chance to immediately atone for today’s blank.

We better get used to the Eriksen vs Alli debate

While Kane fluffed his lines on Tyneside, the Spurs midfield duo wasted no time in picking up the points.

Second only to Kevin De Bruyne for assists last season, Christian Eriksen already has two to his name after teeing up Deli Alli and Ben Davies. The Dane also boasted a considerable threat and fired six attempts on goal – more than any midfielder – on his way to claiming maximum bonus.

Yet Alli reminded us just why he’s the most popular midfielder in FPL by coolly slotting home the opener. Priced at 9.5 apiece, the Spurs midfield big-hitters were also identical for points per match (6.1) last time around – getting in one already seems a wise move.

Given their consistency, non-Kane owners may even consider acquiring both if they have viable options up top as armband alternatives.

Davies rewards early adopters

While his fellow left-back Danny Rose is itching for a way out of White Hart Lane, Davies is making headlines for all the right reasons.

Having scored in Gameweek 38 last season, the Welshman’s strike at St James’ Park means that he has netted in back-to-back league matches, with today’s clean sheet also reminding us of Tottenham’s resilience.

Although young right-back Kyle Walker-Peters offers a cheaper option at 4.5, he’s surely set to give way to Kieran Trippier once the latter gets over his ankle problem.

Coming in at 5.5, Davies is still less expensive than centre-backs Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld, yet only 3% of FPL managers have acquired him. Encouragingly, he also took four of his side’s seven corners.

Davies excelled despite being utilised as a left-back, rather than a wing-back, with the north London outfit lining up in a 4-2-3-1 formation today.

Spurs welcomed back Son Heung-Min back from injury with an appearance off the bench and Mauricio Pochettino may well choose to retain the same system and unleash the South Korean from the off against Chelsea’s defence next weekend. On the other hand, he could turn to 3-4-2-1 if he doesn’t fancy Walker-Peters against the raids of Marcos Alonso down the Blues’ left.

Elliot may just stay on our benches

The Magpies were already without injured right-back DeAndre Yedlin then watched on as another two defenders, Paul Dummett and Florian Lejeune, limped off before the break.

Rafa Benitez will also have to reshuffle his double-pivot after Jonjo Shelvey’s dismissal for a stamp on Alli, with new loan arrival Mikel Merino (5.0) expected to deputise.

Today’s teamsheet at least confirmed that Rob Elliot is the only current active keeper at a cost of 4.0 in FPL. Owned by 17%, he was the second most benched player in the Gameweek, named as a sub by 673,648 FPL managers.

The fixtures may look favourable (hud WHU swa STO bri) but those problems at the back hardly look conducive to clean sheet returns and suggest that Elliot may well have to get used to FPL bench-warming duties.

Interest in Huddersfield’s Steve Mounie could now rise further ahead of next weekend’s home clash with the Magpies after the 6.0-priced striker netted twice away to Palace yesterday.

I think a mistake that Pep is making is assuming that we're playing better because we switched to three at the back after the United friendly. It was our first friendly and they had more minutes under their belt...we just improved after that.

Benching a player like Sane in favor of Stones/Otamendi is a joke

It's hard to watch him hampering the development of guys such as sane and Sterling. They need minutes at this age. Bernardo silva is incredible and should be nowhere near the bench, also.

I love Silva, best playmaker this league has seen for years. But he's regressing. And if you're gonna bench up and coming young talent for someone who's already planning on leaving after this season...I think its a waste. Watching him yesterday was so rough, his decision making was so poor...and then he nailed that through ball to Kun. Class player but shouldn't be benching young creative talents at this stage in his career.

The thing about this so called "knee jerking" is this.....The people calling it knee jerking don't want you to sell players they own for fear they will drop in price. Has nothing to do with it being a good or bad move. For all you know, "knee jerking" Kane or De Bruyne out this week for Lukaku or Eriksen could pay off gangbusters.....then again it may not.

Go with who YOU think has the best chance to score the most points in the next few fixtures...then re evaluate and do another "knee jerk" if needed. Basing all of your transactions solely on reading these boards will never get you to where you want to be. Ultimately you and you alone are responsible for your teams success or failure, not the poster who told you to get in Fabregas over Willian or the poster who told you not to knee jerk Lukaku in so you can watch him score 28 goals without owning him this year while you stick with someone else because you didn't want to knee jerk. Taking hits isn't a bad thing if you take the right hits. Seen some of the highest ranked teams take a lot of hits at the right times.

Now in saying that, I'm gonna go knee jerk a player or two in just because!! Good luck this year everyone and above all have fun!

Knee-jerking isn't inherently bad. It's really just a fast way to say "You spent how many weeks picking the players you like the most, and you're going to dump them after 90 minutes?"

Who said anything about a conspiracy? It's natural to defend the players you spent weeks deciding on to bring into your squad. People would rather not have their plan backfire right away and lose value because people are bailing out for someone "better". But I can't tell you how many times I've seen people come on her crying about how they didn't make this move or that move because they were told not to! It's hilarious!

            Kidding mate 🙂

"Knnejerk" generally refers to a rash decision made based on short termism.

Yes, what you say is true - it can pay off. But rather than look at this kind of strategy, if it can be called that, in the short term, it is more conducive to a successful season to look at it over a season.

We all know those players who take a 4 or 8 point hit and the stars align for them. We even know those players who "kneejerk" successfully for a few weeks (or two months running for one fella in my mini league last season).

But those who tend to kneejerk early are usually those who find it impossible to stop. Try kneejerking over a lengthy period of time and it inevitably comes crashing down. Meanwhile, that player you kicked out after GW1 scores 27 points in two games come GW4 and GW5, while the man you got in goes cold.

Oh, and while my friend was killing it last November and December, he did come crashing down and I duly took advantage. The tortoise wins the race 😉

This is a such a terrible post from someone whom I'm afraid to say sounds like a classic knee-jerker. You spend all summer picking players for a reason and then want to get rid of them 1 week later? You really think 1 week sets the tone for the entire season?

Getting rid of KDB for Salah/Eriksen after 1 week is a knee-jerk. Getting rid of Danilo for Ben Davies is a knee-jerk. You knew the pros and cons of both well before GW1. You are just letting 1 blank and 1 return dictate your transfer, when you clearly know it could easily reverse next week, or both could score the same number of points next week. A transfer of Fabregas to some other player is not a knee-jerk. One is banned and so the transfer in can outscore him. Do you give all your players 1 week to return? Might as well make whole sale changes in your defense then for I'm sorry to break it to you but you'll not get 6 pointers every week.

The funny thing here is that you actually think I feel that way about any of the players you mentioned. I just used random examples! lol! I base my team off of how I think players will do for a set amount of time as well as the entire season. The whole point of this post was just to lighten up the negativity of the term knee jerk. Clearly you didn't take it that way. And don't worry I'm not transferring out KDB....he's in my team for at least another week;) Hope you aren't offended by the post....it's just funny to read people telling others not to knee jerk when 99% of moves from this week on are based on performance for current week.

How I define it and what I cant stand about it is based off 90min and who X pass happens to fall to at X time or if a player misses a chance 99/100 times they take. The idea that now KDB especially is a 'bad pick' and someone who should be out simply because he didnt score and Salah did. Next week KDB can score twice and Salah blank, I find most of us here know who are good picks, from that point a lot of it is just driven by luck and random elements

I agree. I own KDB and he isn't going anywhere based on this weekend. I think a lot of people are going to knee jerk in certain players who they probably had in their pre season teams several times and then last minute went with someone else who blanked. Just my guess.

I think it's better to admit you got it wrong than stick with what you have to avoid 'knee jerking'.

I went with De Bruyne and Zaha. De Bruyne reminded me why I avoided him last season, not a 10m player imo with so many other great options available. Zaha looked fine but Palace were a shambles and now he is an injury doubt.

So I've taken a 4 point hit to bring in Salah and Mikhi. I had no Liverpool attacker which I think was a mistake, and although Salah's points were a bit lucky he could have had many more. Mkhi is another one on my shortlist who I was unsure about, but looks like he could do really well. I would have been priced out of this move had I waited. (Or so I thought, fpl stats a little out!).

On the other hand Tadic, Kane and Jesus were all unlucky not to come away with double figures and I never considered moving them on, I'm sure they will come good in the upcoming weeks.

Price changes could be huge this year though - there are so many quality expensive midfielders you'd love to have that by knee-jerking and raising TV you've got a good chance of affording a better team later in the year.

      Post-match press conference quotes

      Rafa
"…Shelvey knows, he made a mistake, he has apologized to the whole dressing room, the rules are the rules…
…it’s too early to know on the injuries (Dummett and Lejeune), but one will be a couple of weeks at least…
…(Dwight) Gayle is fine, we didn’t take any risks with him, but he is fine..."

      Jose
"…I liked the attitude in the second half, winning 1-0 and try to score more goals, after 2-0 we had a little relaxation…
…Michael (Carrick), in spite of his age, has a role to play…
…Victor (Lindelof) is going to need time, like (Ricardo) Carvalho needed time, and Mkhitaryan needed time, and he will get that time"

      Slaven
"…Michael Antonio should be back against Southampton, and Cheikhou (Kouyate), Manuel (Lanzini) and even Andy Carroll should be there for Newcastle (GW3) or at latest in the game after the International Break. All of them will be back very soon…"

      Poch
"…He (Alli) is mature now, he is so calm to accept these things which happen on the pitch…
…We need some new players who brings new energy and can challenge your best players to create more competition, more quality…
…Very pleased (with Kyle Walker-Peters), great maturity and was on the pitch after (the game) with his Man Of The Match trophy and was very proud. Maybe it was my English (when I said he wasn’t ready last week), only that I didn’t want to put pressure on him, we must take it step by step. He is ready to play…
…Eriksen was fantastic, showed his real quality and is one of the players that is giving his best football..."

Right, time to give something back to the community… (drumroll, please)

You’re all invited to join my competition “Beat the KneeJerkers XI”, league code 4112369-907919

Every GW (starting with GW2) I will put together a team of most-transferred-in players for the gameweek. If you can match or beat their score, you survive to the next GW.

Yes, this does look similar to TM’s LMS league, and I acknowledge his league as inspiration. The difference lies in that the “KneeJerkers” competition has a more variable cut-off score and that we’ll probably have a winner by around GW15 or GW20.

It will also allow you to shake your head at the silly casuals and their bandwagons… well, unless the likes of Xhaka and Mounie haul again and dump you out!

Here’s the (provisional) team for GW2. I will update the team on Friday to reflect any changes in transfer activity.

      Player (Transfers IN – round)
      DeGea (16k)
      Hegazi (106k) Kolasinac (29k) Davies (28k)
      Xhaka (134k) Salah (74k) Willian (42k) David Silva (34k)
      Vardy (74k) Lukaku (51k) Mounie (39k)
Bench: Foster (15k), Mkhitaryan (33k), Zanka (27k), David Luiz (27k)

      In visual form: https://snag.gy/tDCmQ2.jpg

Hopefully, this competition will be a good laugh and will also help the community to keep an eye on new bandwagons.

and these were Pep's quotes after the game on Saturday.
I'll try to post the rest later, or rather those with an FPL focus, Pep's were particularly long as he gave a long press conference. The rest will be a line or two each.
The themes about rotation and adapting the shape/formation/personnel to break down teams will run all season.

"…2nd half much better (than the 1st), we were quicker and attacked inside and outside…
…It became easier after the first goal….
…We ran a lot, we ran like a League 1 or a Conference (team). If you see how Jesus, Sergio, Kevin and David do running backwards…
…When we have Leroy, particularly Raheem and even Bernardo (Silva) they are more dynamic than the players we have on the pitch today…When the game is tight, after 60/70 mins, they can make the difference…
…The only doubt I had after pre-season was where to play Raheem, he was amazing in pre-season in that position in the middle, not wide, and he created a lot of problems…
      …Gundogan is back soon…
…when we have the ball, we keep the ball, and I love that…
…Last year I rotated a lot the team, this year will be the same, and after that it is up to them (the players) and they must accept, if not it is not my problem. They will all play…
Now we travel to Girona for a friendly then back for the 2nd game (vs Everton)..."

More quotes from the post-match press conferences

      Huddersfield (David Wagner)
“…we will stick to our identity and our ideas, to keep it as uncomfortable for the opposition as possible…
…(Steve) Mounie , what I really like is that he is a character, he likes to work, he is unusual for a goalscorer in that he sees defence as his responsibility…
…Only Incey (of our team) has previous Premier League experience, he had a great opportunity after 2 mins where usually we would lead the game...
…we brought Tommy (Smith) off as he ran the risk of us going down to 10 men, playing against Wilf Zaha, with a yellow card, and this is only Tommy’s 3rd game so 90 mins is hard. This was a tactical substitution. Danny (Williams) last played right back 6 years ago. We don’t speak about other team’s players (in answer to a question about recruiting Barnsley right-back Andy Yiadom)…”

      Brighton (Chris Hughton)
“…For 70 mins we played the game we had to play, we kept them to minimal good chances…
…one negative is when we did have the ball, we could have kept it better…
…by the end of this transfer window, we want a squad that can compete to stay in this division…
…(on Izzy Brown) we’re hopeful it’s ok, but at the moment it’s his hamstring and we’ll assess in the morning…”

      Crystal Palace (Frank de Boer)
Nothing of note, basically the team took 50 mins to do what he had briefed them to do, Palace were in control after that, had chances to make it 1-2 before it went 0-3.

      Chelsea (Antonio Conte)
“…In the next game I don’t know if Pedro is able to recover…”

      Stoke (Mark Hughes)
“…(Choupo-Moting) is not ready for even 45 mins yet, he’s had no game time whatsoever, he was always down for a maximum of 30 mins, I was pleased with his cameo…
…Kurt Zouma was excellent on the day and you know what you’re going to get from Fletch…
…(on the change of shape to 3-4-2-1) if we can get Bojan and Shaqiri in those positions behind the striker, they’re most effective there, it’s worth persevering with as an option in certain situations, we showed that last year, but it wouldn’t be for every game…”

      West Brom (Tony Pulis)
“…we were very disciplined, you had to be with their changes out wide…
…the quality coming in from Phillips and Brunt is top class, that’s why people like McAuley and Dawson score goals, and he (Hegazi) will continue to do that, if he wants to get in there and score goals…”
“…Jay (Rodriguez) has been fantastic, he’s not match fit yet, he’ll be a handful when he is…”
“…(on Rondon going straight down the tunnel and seeming to throw his shirt) I didn’t see that, he’ll be most probably disappointed he didn’t start, but we’ve got competition there now…”
“…(on bringing on Rekeem Harper while leaving Nacer Chadli on the bench) Rekeem has done fantastic in pre-season, and this club has for years kept it’s youngsters in the academy football for far too long…”
“…we’ve got targets and we hope we’ll get them in in the next 2 weeks, because we need them…”
“…(On potential return date for James Morrison) a week, two weeks…”

      Some thoughts on Harry Kane.

I wonder if the decision to take him out of our teams will be a pivotal moment in our seasons.

Last year Aguero was priced at £13m and I took him out before his injury/red card (can't remember which) due to thinking there was better value elsewhere. In the end if turned out everyone got rid and Pep happened so we'll never know if it was a good move or not.

It's still got me thinking about Kane. I'm not buying into the Wembley factor, nor the August factor but I will be monitoring him closely in the next few gameweeks.

Said it before the season - at 12.5m we have to take into account his value at that price. Given that Vardy and Firmino have started off strongly and Morata and Lacazette were both on the scoresheet is there potential to spread the money and put it to better use?

From my own team for example I have Kane + Gabbiadini. Would that money be better on Firmino+Morata/Lacazette or Firmino + Vardy to free up a cool 2.5m for defence / midfield.

I'm not knee jerking yet, far from it, it's only been one game, but further down the line it could make or break our seasons by the decision we make over sticking or not sticking with Kane. I don't think there's ANY doubts that he'll score and do well, it's just whether he'll outscore other cheaper players by enough to make it worth while.

You pay the exrta £2m for a secure captaincy option. When (or if??) Spurs starts firing, you'll need him. That being said, I'm planning to get him GW3, depending on how he looks against Chelsea.

No doubt that Spurs will start firing, but how much more will he score than Firmino at £4m less and hopefully on pens the rest of the season?

He's a good captaincy option for sure but so is Lukaku (should have addressed that in original post)

I think Firmino will below 20 goals. With pens, maybe 15-18. Kane can reach 30 goals. I see Firmino as a substitute to having Salah or Mane but not Kane. Kane, Lukaku and maybe Aguero will be challenging for golden boot. The rest are a level beneath them

Depends more if Coutinhoi there or not tbh. He is the creative hub and Liverpool will face tougher opposition.

Firmino definitely won't score as many as Kane, that's probably a safe assumption but he did get 11 goals, 11 assists last year. Can he do that again? I'd think so.

Add in pens and you're looking at 15-18 like you say.

Then add £4m you can spend elsewhere to upgrade the likes of Gabbiadini to a premium striker (nearly at Aguero level at that point) and suddenly it's a different story.

              Definitely not without risk though.

Agree on Lukaku being a factor. If ManU is on a roll this season, he might turn out to be the go-to captaincy option - in which case Kane might not be needed.

Surely if he has Pens, Firmino is a great option.
Are we still sure Firmino will have pens with Milner on the pitch? Idk.
Plus watching liverpool play, the no 9(Firmino) always holds up play and allows the wingers on both sides to bomb forward and get into better attacking positions.

We don't know yet. Would be great for us to have Liverpool get a penalty while both are on the pitch!

Kane this season and Aguero last are completely different entities in my opinion. Kane is 100% nailed and on pens, Aguero was neither at different points of the season. It would be nice to spread the funds elsewhere but miss out on a captaincy haul of 4-5 goals from Kane and your rank could plummet irreversibly. I'll be keeping patient and believe he will again be crowned golden boot.

I'm 100% NOT saying we get rid of him now, just in case that wasn't clear. But potentially further down the road it's something that people may look to do and it could reward them big

Well, you have a point there. I just dont like to have 3 players of the same team this soon in the season. I wanted to have Spurs coverage in the defence, looked at last season points and thought Eriksen offered better value and allowed me to have a more balanced team.

That being said, obviously Alli/Erik provide better value. But with Kane you get great captaincy material.
We're all thinking this now just because Erik and Alli scored more yesterday and Kane blanked.
Had Kane scored which he couldve easily done, none of these topics would be on.

Morata is key for me. If he starts playing and contributing like he did last match, a 10m route in to the Chelsea attack looks a good enough reason to jettison Kane. I may go with Eriksen/Alli + Son to offset it.

The difficulty of scoring goals for Everton compared to the difficulty of scoring goals for ManU hasn't been factored in to the initial pricing.

With Burnley and Swansea at home soon I certainly want him, good captain option. But longer time I'll have to consider the money and what it could do for me.

Spurs do have some REALLY nice fixtures after Chelsea though up until GW9.

You have to keep for now surely.
I went with Alli and Used the extra cash to have Jesus and Firmino instead of Kane and Gabbi.

Think there may be more value in Alli or Erikson.

I think Lukaku having a great season largely depend on Mkhi. If he reaches the levels of Dortmund, he can get 15-20 assists and Lukaku will be the main beneficiary of that. I'm glad I have both. I have a feeling he will be like a new signing for Utd and provide great value after a difficult first season. Mourinho teams always click in their second season.

You said it yourself, it's only one game. Lukaku and Kane are nailed, Pep's Pep and the others don't inspire the same confidence. Vardy's fixtures are still terrible, Firmino's tied up in Europe and Bats' opening game seemed irresistible on paper.

My approach was to use the 3rd striker and 4th mid slots to play with short term differentials, with nailed on players elsewhere. Saying that, something about Vardy and Shakespeare screams fixture proof in light of Friday's performance.

If he had scored, everyone would be saying he's essential. These doubts will always be here for very expensive players who don't perform week in, week out. That being said, even if he blanks next week and looks out of it, there's no really valid reason to get rid before BUR SWA.

It's always tempting to spread the funds for a more balanced team, but imagine for example we had gone without Lukaku (I understand you never would for GW1, but bear with 😉 ). We would currently be floundering around the 2 million mark most likely. It's that safety, that's the reason why we get Lukaku as Kane is; they're highly owned, highly captained, entirely capable of bagging a hattrick even playing Chelsea at Wembley 😉

The same discussion I'm trying to start for Kane could work for Lukaku as well to be fair.

Lukaku to Firmino frees up £3m and you get to keep Kane.

Need to have more than 1 captain. Neither Firmino nor Vardy are really captainable. Well, maybe Vardy but it's a punt. Lacazette is interesting, I agree, but it depends on how he plays/returns if/when Sanchez returns.

I'd rather have a 'proper' striker than Firmino, but Lacazette/Morata + 2m vs Kane will be a key decision when I wildcard. That 2m could be the difference between Zaha and Salah, or Daniels and Alonso.

I have been thinking the same...did it with Aguero last season, and it really paid off. I also considered dropping Kane from my team this year, because of his high pricetag. But I have him atm, and have no itentions what so ever, of dropping him. His stats from yesterday just about matches Lukaku's, so no reason to be scared after 1GW. But its an interesting discussion for sure!

I agree, and no, they are not the same! It was just an example to make the arguement that the most expensive doesnt have to be the best option, if you spread your funds correctly! The biggest issue is how to do that, and still have good capt. options! So ppm, is an ok measure for value...but it does not take big hauls and capt. into concideration!

So we will just have to be paitent. All we can do is wait, and see!

Hi Andy, really interesting thoughts. And we've already seen the impact Alli and Eriksen will have this season in 'covering' Kane (to an extent).

For me, though, I'll be sticking with him until at least GW3. If he blanks in these 2 weeks then a decision will have to be made.

I've been having the exact same thoughts. As good as he is and we know he can be explosive, if you have a viable alternative captain every week then the money saved switching him to Jesus,Lacazette Firminho Vardy etc can mean you have another big hitter in midfield as opposed to a Zaha or a Ritchie etc. Also Spurs mids likely to score nearly as well as Kane for 3m less. Not knee jerking but deffo one to monitor

I did this last season and it didn't work. I had Alli Eriksen and Davies and still got annihilated due to Kane captainers when he bagged a hattrick. I got rid after those Burnley and Hull games too. Also did the hazard Sanchez merry go round and this season I'm looking to stick to the core of my team and transfer around the edges.

The captaincy is huge, if you aren't going to captain him then he isn't worth it. I'm rotating between him and Big Rom.

So is that one good game from United enough to think they are good enough attrack wise to warrant investement?

Seemed the handbreak was off and they looked very good. Will that be the norm though?

How much of it was West Ham being woeful / giving up?

With Martial Lingard and Hererra still able to come in are their mids an option long term?

Can Lukaku rival Kane for golden boot?

Soo many questions in my head lol

Swansea were woeful against Saints so ill be intrested to see if United can breeze past them too.

Mkhi is an excellent option, right until Jose replaces him with Lingard for absolutely no reason and you have £8m+ bringing you zero points.

Lukaku the only united player who's nailed and good for attacking returns IMO (Pogba equally nailed, but offered little going forwards yesterday aside from a late goal when WHU were already on their way back to East London). United defence might be worth looking at, but the defenders with guaranteed starts are not cheap...

They have good fixtures continuing. As a United fan, I believe they'll continue to try to attack. The fans are demanding it, and the team looks capable of delivering it.
I think Micky will play most of the time too.
Rashford deserves to as well but not sure if he will consistently. Feel that he could lose his spot to Lingard in more difficult games.

I'm just gonna throw this out here, probably an unpopular opinion...but if you wanna wildcard in GW1, go for it. Just be smart about it. If you're dropping players like De Bruyne, Gabbiadini, Jesus, Kane, etc...that's nuts. On any other day they're scoring braces. If you're dropping Cahill, Fabregas, Lindelof...sure, but be smart about it.

You won't get GW1's points but those points may suggest what'll happen in the future...or they won't. Members, look at your stats. Non-members, watch the games, or at least the highlights. Lots of players did poorly in fantasy that could do a lot better on another day...and arguably vice-versa. Just be smart, there really is no wrong or right besides that.

Can I ask why you support the GW 1 WC? It seems a waste to essentially WC 2 weeks in a row and it's not like we know much more now than we did a week ago.

          1. @persecuted_by_mods
              8 years, 6 months ago

Technically it's wasting 1, assuming the second one works. My team for example is in need of wildcard even though I ended up with 63 points. All my punts or risks backfired and before I know it they'll drop in price and the likes of Salah Alli will have risen

I don't support it, I just think that it's more of an option than we suggest. Some teams need it, others don't.

It's knee jerky if you're taking out players that will obviously do better. If you're taking out players that didn't play, got red carded, injuries...heck go for it. But taking out players like De Bruyne just because they didn't get points is dumb, wildcard or not

Surely Jones is nailed, for now, after his performance today. He was really good. As for Blind, if United start 4 at the back again then I think he'll play over Darmian, he played good but not so well that I would say he is nailed.
