So far, it all seems pretty simple.

Manchester United are walking through teams and all we have to do as Fantasy managers is back them and count the points.

Romelu Lukaku – while wholly unconvincing throughout against Swansea City – again managed to earn his 53.5% of FPL managers points, with 67% of those owners backing him with the captaincy.

For all the naysaying that took place during today’s display, the fact remains that the Belgian is now three goals ahead of both Harry Kane and Gabriel Jesus – perhaps his most likely rivals for a spot in our forward lines.

Should they dare to blank in Sunday and Monday’s matches then further sales of both will follow, with Lukaku hoovering up yet more owners.

But the day truly belonged to Paul Pogba.

A 15-point haul in South Wales saw him reach new heights to follow his eight points gained in the opening weekend victory over West Ham.

A lot has been said and written on the presence of Nemanja Matic and how this has unleashed Pogba’s attacking talents. However, when we look closer, there is perhaps another individual key to Pogba’s recent boom.

In truth, Jose Mourinho’s side seemed to huff and puff through most of today’s victory, and Pogba cut a frustrated figure at times – indeed, he walked a disciplinary tightrope in the first half.

But late on, the introduction of both Marouane Fellaini and Anthony Martial seemed to galvanise matters. On their arrival, United simply eased through the gears and tore the Swans asunder, with Pogba the main benefactor.

United have now scored eight goals over two matches, with six of those strikes arriving after the 75-minute mark with Fellaini on the pitch.

When he arrives, Pogba appears unshackled to run at tired legs and spread devastation. Notably, his only points earned without Fellaini on the pitch so far has been his assist for Bailly’s opener today.

So while it’s difficult to question the thousands of FPL managers that are now flocking to Pogba, we still need to consider that, to this point, the influence of Matic has perhaps not been as significant as billed.

It’s only when Mourinho reinforces his midfield further that Pogba has proved unstoppable.

Meanwhile, Mkhitaryan quietly gained another two assists without taking control of the game or matching Pogba’s impact.

He is undoubtedly the creator to Pogba’s destroyer. The question is, are we forced to choose between them and if so, is it as straightforward as opting for the Frenchman?

Having just taken a points hit to acquire Mkhitaryan, he’s going nowhere. And with Phil Jones available for just 5.0 in a defence that’s already kept two shut-outs, this Fantasy manager can’t currently find a place for Pogba.

That’s a worry. Potentially, Pogba is transformed and, match after match, he could prove untameable for opposing defences.

But the Fellaini factor is interesting and we perhaps still need to show some caution. Leicester City in Gameweek 3 will likely provide a sterner test which may yet slow the United and Pogba juggernaut.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

The carnage on the site tonight is actually comical to read. Let's take a breath for a moment.

I've seen people getting rid of KDB before he's even played and he also has Bournemouth next week.

I've seen people getting rid of Salah just because he didn't start today even though he was just rested for champions league on Wednesday. (That shows how much Klopp thinks of him).

I've seen people getting rid of Kolasinac even though next week he will be shifted to LWB when Koscielny returns from suspension.

Gabbiadini is getting axed for Chicharito even though Gabbi got 7 points today and hit the bar and plays Huddersfield next week.

Everyone if you have to get a Man U midfielder in then think about it first before you make a rash decision like Wildcarding early as it could potentially wreck your season at this stage. A -4 or a -8 is not Wildcard worthy so if you have to do it, just take the hit.

This is why a lot of people drop out of FPL after a few GWs because they use their chips too hastily and then when they really need it later on when mountains of information are available, they can only take multiple hits.

well said sprout, although Chicharito and Pogba do look great value and it's pretty tempting (holding for now). Not sure why people are dropping Salah after raving about him all week and declaring him a better option than Mane..

I know. This place's opinion changes so fast based on one appearance. Last week, everyone was slating Salah and then he got a goal and an assist in a few minutes, suddenly he was essential.

Now he's first on the chopping block lol.

Yep, like Mkhitaryan says, it's the average this week. Analyse each of your players carefully. Just because they didn't get points this week doesn't mean they won't next week.

        Like Gabbi for instance.

Dont like the way Soton are set up, they dont seem to be trying to help Gabbiadini. I watched them today and Gab took his chance well but that was it, they werent feeding it in to him. Chicharito looks a better option to me and good games to come.

Fair enough, if you fancy a player more then go for it. I'm just saying don't be too rash and making a decision you'll regret.

Gabbi bit a lot of sellers today still

True. Planning to wait till at least Monday night to make any transfers. But some people's hands are being forced by prices. Selling KDB isn't usually a straight swap for Mkhi, for example., so you can't judge it by itself: it's used to fund something else which far outweighs the risk of losing KDB.

If you have the chance to have 2 great players instead of 1 great player, I can see the appeal to move early if the doors are closing.

      1. FantasyFootballSprout

Yep very true, but KDB might sting hard if he hauls against Everton and then has a juicy fixture against Bournemouth next week

Still just 1 great player + Iwobi or someone who you don't want in your team. You still get KDB's points against Everton, and you can be fairly confident that Mkhi + another great player will outscore your current combo in the long run. Pretty easy decision if you can't afford to wait

People wildcarding before Sanchez and hazard are back I don't understand. Last week's team which did well may not have done well this week. You can't expect a top scoring week every time you play. The feeling is pretty bad but there is more variation in top players now it's impossible to get it right every week. Pogba plays a good team next week. He won't have it as easy. Is it worth gifting your rivals 4 points?

Agreed with the KdB and Salah selling madness, but the other ones you mentioned are not so mad.

The fact that Kolasinac was taken off rather than say Bellerin and pushing Kola out wide makes me fear a 3-way rotation between Bell, Kola and Ox for the 3 wingback positions.

With regards to Chicarito, I think he was always at the back of people's minds with his proven FPL pedigree, but they were all just waiting for a sign of coming back to form which he definitely has given, scoring 2 with his side down to 10 men against a defensively strong (supposedly) side.

I myself went Valencia/Willian > Trippier/Pogba for a hit, knowing fully well that I will be taking more hits this week to get in a Spurs attacker and ship out Danilo. A WC this early is just not worth it.

I'd go further and say selling KDB aren't madness either.

Provided Eriksen/Alli don't get hurt, that's a move that makes sense. Spurs have great fixtures and cheaper than KDB. Salah has two tough games coming up.

I wouldn't be doing it yet but there are reasons

I tick quite a few of those boxes.

KBD - I'm giving him tonight. I'm worried about him being rotated anyway but if he's not performing whilst Eriksen is being consistent as ever for 0.5 cheaper that is where I am going.

Salah - rotation again. Want to minimise it where I can. Downgrade to Pogba/Mhki seems a better bet with better fixtures.

Kolasinac - I had Alonso in almost all my drafts but late on I begrudgingly downgraded to Kolasinac to save 1.0. Really regret it now he's being played CB to accommodate Ox, was hauled off on Saturday and Arsenal are a shambles at the back.

Gabbiadini - I like him but I don't like the team he's playing in. Too negative and won't get him chances. He's almost always subbed and is a rotation risk. West Ham's fixtures look decent I fancy Hernandez to score a lot more, he's also nailed on.

I won't do anything before tonight though.

Agree re: KdB and Salah, keep. But Kolasinac I'm ditching FOR NOW and putting on the monitor list. Hauled off at Stoke in GW2 after conceding three at home in GW1, with Liverpool and Chelsea away in the next three.

I have two free transfers so bringing in Britos to upgrade Abraham to Chicarito.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

Ones to Watch from Gameweek 2 so far

Pogba is the main attraction in the transfer market – unsurprisingly after his sensational score in Gameweek 2.

But there have been some other transfer targets to emerge for those looking for even cheaper options or already own the Frenchman. Here’s a couple I’ve picked out.

      Antonio

The West Ham winger caught the eye in GWK 2 with all three of his close range efforts on target. In terms of shots in the box – he is currently the fifth quickest. With new, HUDD, wba and SWA in his next five he looks a great option at 7.5.

      Richarlison

The returns in both his matches, including an 11 point return in his first start against Bournemouth the Watford midfielder is looking great value at 6.0. A home tie against Brighton next week could give immediate returns. He currently has the fastest rate of close range efforts of any Prem Lg player.

Who else have you got your eye on for a transfer – either this coming Gameweek or over the international break? Do either of these appeal? Or is it all about Pogba and no one else?

          Good man.

          My current transfer targets are

          1. Eriksen
          2. One of Pogba or Mkhi - probably Pogba
          3. Antonio

Can't have them all and Eriksen may take priority but I do like the look of Antonio.

              Yep, that's why I've waited.

I really want Pogba...but 0.1 or even 0.2 doesn't bother me. Prefer to wait a few days and assess KDB situation, Salah.

I've 5 players still to go this week - would be annoying to remove a player only to see one or two of those get injured and better transfer possibility emerge.

I don't usually have much interest in players like richarlison - but returns in both matches hints at consistency and he has the immediate good fixture too.

          Good choice.

In the clamour for Man Utd assets I think others are being neglected - especially SPurs assets.

I do like the two Man U mids - but for me Eriksen looks the priority....and if I was looking for a defender Trippier would be right up there.

Son, when he plays scores all the goals Alli normally would in the number 10 position.

Alli tends to play deeper with Son on the pitch.

Greater spread of pts potential with Assists, goals and bonus.

I do like both though and a bit like Mkhi and Pogba I don't think you can go wrong with either. Eriksen just seems like a great put in and forget type player that will bring in consistent returns, without being flashy.

7.5m for a West Ham mid is a bit much. That Stone midfielder who scored could be good.

It does feel like that tbf when the United mids are just 0.6m more. When I went to the transfer page I thought he was 7m. He has still in the last couple of years played a number of games in RWB and won't anymore so I believe numbers could improve.

I'll be looking to bring Eriksen and Trippier in, assuming good things in the game today.

However Ritchie to Jese in my 4th mid spot eventually could work.

          This.

Both played well and could have easily picked up some points - set pieces and potential penalties for Carroll and an advanced position for RLC whilst Zaha is out means this could really work nicely.

Trippier at 5.4 will be incredible value, Blind if he's nailed is worth the extra .5 over Jones considering he's on corners. Richarlison looks lively and as I thought Marco Silva is already working his magic

Hernandez is one to keep an eye on, gonna have great support with Lanzini Antonio etc

Antonio certainly looked to have played from what I saw on Match of the Day. With that said, West Ham appear to be an absolute mess. Is 7.5 not a bit much for a piece of that shambles when Mkhi is just .6 more?

Robertson looked to have played very well yesterday. Also if Mahrez sticks around he could become an option again when Leicester's fixtures turn, he was outstanding yesterday.

No one seems to have mentioned Robertson, for Liverpool. Fantastic attacking. He's 4.9m now. I'm tempted to get both Robertson and Moreno, bench one of them and watch the other one impersonate Alonso down the left.

Robertson should nail that spot, but don't overlook the cheaper TAA once mid-week CL's are off.

I would never have given Stokies a second thought but they look transformed with the two new arrivals. I got Jese in for Zaha ahead of the latter's price drop, but the 5,5 EM C-M also looks great value. He was shifted to the wing to accommodate Berahino coming on and so dipped under the radar, but he started behind Jese and looked deadly.

What's going on with our price movement system?

Clearly there has been a fundamental shift in the algorithm.

That players such as Xhaka and Hegazi have been transferred in my 408k and 350k of players respectively and still haven't caught a second rise is astounding.

Anyone else frustrated that this affecting the TV game, which some of us have often used as a key strategy?

If I recall correctly (and it's been a while since I played it), there's far less variance in player pricing in the Telegraph. Players are initially price in 0.1 increments rather than 0.5, so the gap between an expensive option and a bargain is not as great.

You could argue it's all relative, but I don't think it's quite the same with the broad range of prices in FPL

I agree with Alonso I think.
No point having price changes unless they make a significant difference
to the players you can get in. An odd + or - .1 is just tedious.
Then you have obscure rules around red and yellow flags which always
appear to change depending on the player.
Protection for some 7 days after returning and others 7 days
after some rumour said they were going to return.

I would like to see prices moving faster. Seems wrong it took a whole week for Zaha to drop by 0.1 when 500k (almost 50%) of owners sold him. Yet in the same time, Costa fell 0.2 with just over 30k sales (no idea why anyone would buy in first place)

I would also like to see the 0.3 limit for price changes in a week lifted (not that this occurs often anyway).

GreenWindmill makes a great point. I imagine almost all WCers last week would have picked up Hegazi as a nice enabler actually.

And maybe there were lots of Zaha sellers who also had Fabregas for example and therefore WC'd.

Costa is a player you'd instantly sell WC or not, if you were stupid enough to buy him in the first place 😆

Yeah, I have been wondering about this myself.

4% of teams wildcarding is fairly normal for GW2 but it's still hard to understand the slowed-down speed of change, even accounting for that.

The lack of openness about this mechanism is a bit of a pain because it affects our decisions and yet we aren't given any but the most general explanation of how it works.

To be honest, what is going on this season smacks of subjective interference being done behind the scenes to me. But I don't know, because FPL don't want anyone to know. 😕

No, I know. And while the justification for batting away complaints is that the rules are never openly communicated by FPL, there's no doubting that they have become a part of the game, and many players keep them in their mind when making their moves.

When players are jumping off assets for fear of a very impactful early drop, and it doesn't happen, it is a bit annoying.

I'm sure we'll get a grip of the system again soon enough, and perhaps I'll hold off reacting to the price movements for a short while... No, I won't, who am I kidding!? 😆

FFFix tweet: "Re lack of price changes we are either looking at large increase in the thresholds required or manual intervention by FPL."

I firmly suspect the latter. So what we are dealing with is a subjectively manipulated mechanism. 🙁

Bang out of order if it's the latter, because declared or not, you have to be consistent otherwise players who are paying attention just get shafted with completely unexpected changes.

There has to be a system!!

something's not right. Xhaka & Hegazi had something like 200% increases even before WCs are factored in. Aren't WC transfers only registered when the GW deadline passes unlike normal transfers which are registered as soon as confirm button is hit?
otherwise i can see a loophole for price fixing with a WC and an international break 🙂

I do believe that transfers made while a WC is active either do not count, or have less impact on the NTI count.

Players often suggest we should all make our transfers on WC week without pushing the button until just before the deadline. That's dangerous for yourself though, if you forgot, and I don't believe us obsessive players who may do that would have sufficient impact on the total WC count either.

I'm not sure what is always counted as a transfer in fpl statistics, but could the reason be in later-comers? Over 500k players missed the GW1 deadline and have since joined the game. They have surely jumped on the bandwagons, but don't affect the prices.

No, they're not considered transfers. They're just new teams setup late. Only once they start to change their starting selection will transfers be counted.|

Agreed. Just seems awfully slow this year, and when you consider how high Hegazi's ownership has got already, percentage-wise, it's hard to see him accruing the kind of price rises that McAuley did for example. That he's gained just 0.1 at this stage is really surprising.

I do feel that a cheap WBA defender, with scoring potential, who has cleaned up 5/6 BAPS in the first two games probably should be rising in price more quickly than he is. The whole purpose of the price rises, in my opinion, is to ensure that not everyone can buy the budget targets at the bargain basement price if they are slow adopters. Otherwise we have a situation where everyone is buying an elite Mahrez for 5.5m, for example, and that can kill the game.

I liked last year's system. Slow price rises make for a dull game and a lot of template teams. My hope is that FPL have adjusted the algorithm so that the pace of price changes accelerates as the season progresses to counteract the dead team effect.

slow price changes make for less template teams, you have it completely backwards imo.

If player changes happen too quickly then everyone ends up jumping on the same players in the fear of not being able to afford them otherwise. The price rises so high and so quickly that players then end up afraid to sell as they can't afford to buy back again and we all end up with the same core players in our teams.

If the price changes are slower then players can easily sell a massively owned player for a period of tough fixtures at say a 0.1 or 0.2 loss safe in the knowledge they will still be able to afford to get them back in again. This will lead to people not holding on to the same players for the whole season and will make the second half of the season in particular far more interesting as you won't be left with half your team having risen 1m or so and not being able to shift them for fear of not being able to buy back.

Not a bad shout. I would like to not have to jump to early transfers. I only do so as I refuse to incur drops or miss a price rise on a target I know I want.

Could it be to do with the increased number of players in the game. I think we started off over 4 million this year. Perhaps the algorithm is based on percentage of sales in relation the number of total players. Or perhaps FPL towers just raises the thresholds to reflect the larger number of players.

Must be a factor since there should in theory be more total transfers than last year just based on increased total active players.

I kept a tally on GE numbers last year. There were as many players going into gw2 as there was by the end of last season. They'll be many more dead teams by mid-season this time I reckon.

Many new players (almost 200k) have joined after gw 1
All of them jumped on hegazi and xhaka

That won't impact at all, because we're talking about Net Transfers In, and new teams joining late and picking Hegazi will not add to his NTI. I would show in this total percentage ownership obviously.

Like yourself disagree with change to price rises/falls. The game is based on scoring points and invariably to get to the top requires a team)squad if a different combinations to the masses. By slowing/affecting price rises/drops facilitates the template squads and teams for everyone and promotes casualness in the game, if you only have to worry about price drop/ rise once a week with someone that should have changed twice. The price changes promote players that people wouldn't consider and have to choose over one player over another.
I thought last year the prices were slow at the start compared to season before and maybe it's just the first 2 weeks but I like to see the price changes. Had an extra 5 million in some people in my leagues last year by gw34 which facilitates the difference in what would have been two big hitters in midfield Vs two bench fodders which is important in a bench boost got a dgw.

I agree. Like to see different players that people didn't expect perform well and come on as differentials. Had mouie for gw1 and richarilson for gw2. That said with slower price changes the majority can then afford the same players which can lead to the same teams. While it's still early in season we don't see the templates..they will invariably come by gw7-10 after which becomes harder to rise up the league tables

*then you will likely see less template teams throughout the season imo. It was the price chanfe system that forced us into having the same players regardless of fixtures and form.

Of course if a player comes along that is way under priced like say Kane a few seasons ago everyone will have him but the fact he won't run away in price means people won't feel compelled to get on the train straight away and they might even get off the train for a spell to differentiate their team if such a player loses form or fixtures. The point is that under the old peicimh system everyone got this type of player also but we were then locked in and couldn't use that spot in our squads any more.

I admit I like the opening couple of weeks of the leagues where there is so much variation and people don't have the template teams. After a few weeks if templates come into play it's hard to pull back a league leader or harder to pull ahead if you are the leader. But let's see how it unfolds over the next few weeks.

I suspected that there would be changes to the price rise/fall system this season fpl likes to keep us guessing after all.

There was huge debate about the system last season on here and i reckon the wigs at fpl took note.

There always seem to be tweaks to the system every season but this time we might be looking at a diametric change.

I don't really know what to think about the change is it good or bad for the game? I suppose only time will tell and us fpl managers will just have deal with the hand we have been dealt and get on with it ultimately.

Absolutely Ogie! We do have to roll with the punches, and adapt to the changes within the game. I think the ability to adapt is the number 1 skill required of an FPL manager.

The frustration is that they can't be transparent about something which, whether they like it or not, as become a key part of the strategy for many players.

How many people are doing Salah (AKA The Rotation Risk) to Pogba tonight?

I had a quick look at the stats for Pogba Vs Mickey.

Pogba is all about the goals. Mickey is a beast for the assists and bonus.

To be honest, Mickey looks the better pick because I expect Pogba's goal conversion rate to regress.

I am keeping him. Kos is back and Bellerin and Ox have not covered themselves in glory so far. Expecting the Ox to leave so Arsenal will be back to full strength:

              Cech
              Bellerin Mustafi Kos Monreal Kola

Would be nice if there was a HT on this 😛

Here is a little discussion of why I think you should keep him unless you downgrade him and use the money for something.

Liverpool and Chelsea away in the next 3 and he is playing centre back, not attacking enough, and was the first to get subbed off. Better options out there

Likely to play LWB next game, and so won't be cut early to change to 2 CBs.

The way Arsenal are playing, I'm not sure even him at LWB is good enough for 6m

32 points from 7 players including captain. Terrible gameweek. 3 defenders gave me total of 4 points (Daniels, cedric, kola) 🙁

Who is the most important to get rid of this week?

            A) Ake ➡ Jones
            B) KDB ➡ Eriksen
            C) Salah ➡ Pogba (Have Mkhi & Lukaku)

Option B depends on if KDB blanks and how Eriksen/Alli perform.

            Appreciate your thoughts!

Two weeks in, wildcarding seems a bit too reactionary. Rank swings a lot faster at the start so although I'm not below 1M in rank, I'm not worried. Want more data and information for my wildcard.

Also, there's a lot of knee jerk around here.
