The Weekend Team News

Spurs are dealt a massive blow as Harry Kane is ruled out of their trip to Manchester United. West Brom have concerns at the back ahead of a home clash with league leaders Man City, while Bournemouth have mixed news up front as Chelsea roll up to the Vitality Stadium. Here’s our round-up of the team news so far, with eleven press conferences still to come today.

Earlier this morning, Spurs confirmed that Harry Kane has a minor strain to his left hamstring after undergoing assessments.

With a Champions League clash against Real Madrid in midweek, Mauricio Pochettino admitted that his star striker will miss tomorrow’s crucial trip to Old Trafford.

“We cannot take a risk for tomorrow, we’ll see after for Wednesday (v Real Madrid). But tomorrow, it is impossible.”

Fernando Llorente or Son Heung-min will now lead the Spurs attack at Old Trafford, with Pochettino perhaps set to field a 3-4-2-1 formation.

Meanwhile, United’s first-choice centre-halves Phil Jones and Eric Bailly, along with Marcus Rashford, were all pictured back in training yesterday.

Arsene Wenger has no fresh injury concerns ahead of the home encounter against Swansea City.

Martin Olsson is almost certain to miss out for the Swans due to a hamstring injury, while Renato Sanches and Wilfried Bony remain sidelined.

James McArthur and Chung-yong Lee are both doubtful for Crystal Palace’s home fixture against West Ham United due to knocks.

Georginio Wijnaldum has recovered from a knee injury, and is fit to return for Liverpool’s home meeting with Huddersfield Town.

The Terriers’ Elias Kachunga has trained all week following a back injury, and is available for the Anfield clash. Collin Quaner has a chance of being involved after stepping up his recovery from a calf injury.

Roberto Pereyra will miss Watford’s home clash against Stoke City due to a hamstring injury, while Sebastian Prodl and Younes Kaboul remain out.

Peter Crouch (back) is a slight doubt for the Potters, while Bruno Martins Indi remains sidelined.

Tony Pulis will be without Craig Dawson (knee) and James Morrison (achilles) for the home encounter with Manchester City. Gareth Barry (hamstring) and Jonny Evans (groin) remain concerns for the Baggies.

Jermain Defoe is back in training following a hamstring injury and “should be fine” for Bournemouth’s home match with Chelsea, according to Eddie Howe. Josh King has recovered from illness but is now doubtful due to a back problem, while Ryan Fraser will be assessed after picking up a knock in midweek.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche revealed Chris Wood is “touch and go” for the Monday night meeting with Newcastle United due to a hamstring injury, but Sam Vokes could return following an abdominal strain.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of this tomorrow’s 11.30am deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream for breaking news – as the day unfolds, we will issue updates from today’s press conferences and refresh our Team News tab accordingly to keep you informed.

Do people believe Poch, about the length of time Harold may be out for?

Poch always seems very reticent when it comes to how long his players may be out for. Always erring on the positive. Danny Rose being a perfect example, always a week or two away from game time, with an injury which dragged on for months.

If I knew for sure that Kane would be back next week I'd keep. What do others think?

I'm happy to bench this week in the hope that he's back for Palace. If he's not it's an easy swap for Aguero, a move which I don't want to make this week after Kun played 120 in the cup.

Strong chance, didn't look too serious of a hammy injury. Mortal went down in a pile and was back in 2 weeks!

I think he'll be back for CPL. It didn't look as bad as Morata's injury and unlike some others Kane tends to get back to scoring straight away after getting crocked.

Kane absent means i'll be fielding just 9 payers this GW. He's flagged and near rising anyway and because he's already dropped once this GW I can't see him dropping again and i'll want him for CPL next GW and buying him back will cost me 0.1m in SV.

I have 3 City & Morata. Pool don't have a striker I want. FH is tempting but that will cost me the 0.3m i've made on this weeks transfer. Lacazette my only option but is that really worth 2 transfers because I wouldn't want him next GW? He'd have to score 8pts for me to just break even. I think i'm going to suck it up and hope Poch is playing mind games but even if he isn't I doubt Kane would have hauled at Old Trafford anyway.

Currently (already, phew) on a WC:

    DDG / Elliot
    Otamendi / Daniels / Ward / Duffy / [3.9]
    Salah / Sterling* / Richarlison / Gross / Carroll
    Kane* / Aguero / Morata

    A) Sterling > Sanchez & Kane > Firmino
    B) Sterling > Sanchez & Kane > Jesus
    C) Sterling > Sanchez & Kane > Vardy
    D) Kane > Lacazette

    All are short-term anyway.

What to do with Harry Kane?

In my opinion there wasn't a huge score coming his way anyway this week and he may be back for Palace. If that's the case do we hold or are our benches not strong enough?

If we think he's out for the Palace game as well is it worth transferring him out for a couple of weeks? What about for a hit?

    What are your plans?

Maybe worth a hit. He's too expensive to be sitting on the bench.

I would usually agree, but issue is I’ve already used my 2FTs this week. Would need -8 to downgrade Kane and get in Sanchez (no other strikers I want).

If plan transfers properly can downgrade Sanchez and get Kane back in when he starts playing again in PL on 2FTs (or a -4 at worst).

I have my wildcard still, so I’m replacing him and I’ll get him back when I WC during GW11, which was my plan anyway before this Kane business came out.

Spurs would be wise to think about just shutting Kane down now until after the 2 week break anyway, just to give him enough time to fully recover.

If they rush him back too soon and he really messes up his hamstring then they’re in trouble. They should be able to handle Palace without him.

Now seems a good time to use the free hit. I definitely would like to save it for the blank gameweek, but this seems a situation tailor made for it.

I'm struggling to decide on what to do currently.

Wildcard isn't really in my plans - there's not enough other players I really want.

If I knew he was just out for United and back for Palace I'd keep and bench. The fact he may be out for both makes me want to make the swap.

Unfortunately I made my transfers last night because of Richarlison. Had I waited I could have funded that with a Kane downgrade.

Right now it would be the free hit (I don't think I'll do that), or a hit. I'm tempted by Lacazette but don't like the GW11 fixture really and also need a captain option. May go Aguero...

      1. johnnys balloons
        • 6 Years

You already have Sterling (120 minutes vs Wolves). Dont you think that bringing Aguero is too much rotation risk for a hit? And you have Jesus too. Laca or Morata are far safer options for a hit, imo... But its your call

I never trust injury statements of Pochettino. He first said "there is no injury", now saying "we will check for Wednesday" and it can easily turn into "we do not want to risk him vs Palace". Rose turned back to training 5 months after Pochettino said " he is very close to return". Same thing happened with Lamela as well. I know Kane's injury is not in the same class with Rose/Lamela but still he may not be back for Palace and have ARS (A) next. 12.6 is too much to keep in the bench. I am selling and being prepared for getting back. Even if it costs 2 transfer at all, replacement (in this case Morata/Jesus/Kun/Lacazette etc..) can easily make it up over your subbed-in 4th/5th DEF/MID.

    21. Econ Man

I agree, the main issue isn't this weekend (I expect this to cost me 2 points). The risk is that he doesn't start the next game. Currently I'm leaning towards keeping him, even though I have a FT. But even a grade I hamstring injury could be quite serious, with a mean return time to full training of 20 days in the following study (not a significant difference between grade I and II). http://bjsm.bmj.com/content/50/5/305

No FTs so either it's a hokey-pokey with either Laca/Morata or bench. Will wait for more news to emerge until deadline tomorrow and take a call.

Bench one week no biggie, not when you have the massive Ruben Loftus-Cheek stepping up.

Played gw8 with 10 mean and gw9 with 9 and a half (RLC cameo)

If RLC doesn't play I'll only have 10 this week but I'm not taking a hit. If he's out for next week also I'll do Hazard to Eriksen and bring Daniels in a week early.

My bench is RLC Clark and Ladapo

RLC and Clark being dropped is annoying as I WC'd gw8 and didn't forsee this!

Not transferring him out in any case, his value will rise as soon as he's back so I'm not wasting transfers to gain a .2 or whatever

Unfortunately I'd already taken a -4 hit to bring in Morata/Calvert-Lewin/Dann for Vardy/Joselu/Davies.

As such, I'm probably keeping him on the bench. Though if Coutinho is injured, I might have to consider a further hit.

I have had him since he was 12.4 so I'm not going to transfer him out when I am clearly going to want him back. Even if he's out for a two weeks, I'm happy to hold because I have 3 heavy hitters up top so can play with 2 and have money itb although my budget mids Richarlison and Chupo-Moting are doing the business.. but I will also have 2 FT next week to maybe upgrade RLC or switch around Hazard and Silva into other alternatives. I was thinking of a free hit but then I'd get Bavies back when he's already fallen once and probably will do again tomorrow and be back to 1FT.

So I hold. And he's red flag so will fall 0.1 worst. If it was a LT injury I might not feel the same and would consider dumping but all signs so far is that it's not and he didn't exactly go off on a stretcher. I'm more concerned about City rotation since I have Jesus...

Held off my move last night glad I did. Taking a punt on Diouf, instead of Firmino going it’s now Kane. This will fund Salah coming in for Brady. Next week Kane back for Bobby F.

I have 2FT and if anything it's making the decision process more difficult. I don't really fancy any of the other forwards, Morata (already have Hazard), Aguero (rotation risk, already have Stones, Jesus & Sterling), Laca (still not convinced of reliability) or Firmino (It's Firmino and Cou out isn't going to improve his chances)

Sanchez is the one I want to bring it but it would take a hit next week to bring back Kane if he's fit. Is there any chance they rush Kane back when there is an international break after and he can rest for 3 weeks now?

A 1 week punt on Laca or Morata feels the safest move but both have bad fixtures the week after. I could bring in Aguero to play alongside Jesus, one will probably get reduced minutes but I will catch any forward points available. Cou was the one I fancied punting on but his injury has muddied the water. Benching Kane and taking a 0.1 drop seems to passive to me.

      • Still Unsure

Very likely I'll take a hit to get Lacazette in. I need a decent captain option this week and I don't think I can trust Aguero to play, or Salah to deliver.

I already have Davies, Sterling and Aguero as rotation risks, and a non-playing Mbemba on my bench, so if 2/3 of those don't play, I'm down to 10 men. That includes Fernandez at Arsenal.

I'll take my chances - if Kane is back for Palace he'll come back in, if he's not, I'll either play Laca at City or look elsewhere.

Considering Kane + Atsu > Lacazette + Richalison (-4), but Lacazette's fixtures then get nasty. Morata could be more long term, but he's been dire recently hasn't he?

Benching, guessing there will be a few hits this week so using it as an opportunity to speed up a couple of moves and switch formations.

Eriksen and Tom Carroll to Salah (c) and Richarlison (-8) hoping the rank damage is not as bad as can see a few flying around.

Listened to Poch and will give him the benefit of the doubt based on Aguero, who reports said would be out for weeks when infact he was back straight away.

To me this is the time to be patient.

Surely if you've already taken hits, holding onto Kane for one week is the smartest move? If he's gone, then replace, with one more weeks info and possibly a better idea on Laca / Morata / City Fwds.

I'm holding and I have a FT up my sleeve. Rolling it so I have 2 next week. No hits and a decent bench should see me through.

Playing 5 at the back though...

        Sterling -> Sanchez

        Already own Aguero
Best pick for a 1 week Kane replacement :
        A) Lacazette
=> easy game against Swansea, Giroud won't be a threat
        B) Jesus
=> well, we never know what Pep has in mind
        C) Firmino
=> with Coutinho out, he might shine
        D) Lukaku
=> Spurs will suffer from Kane being out
        E) Morata
=> he's back and Hazard is in form

Kane may be out for more than a week, though.

Bear in mind it’s a 2 week break after next weekend’s GW and there’s every chance Spurs just shut Kane down till after that to let him fully recover.

I still have my wildcard, which I was going to use during that break, so I’m happy to transfer Kane out today and get him back with my wildcard.
