The Knee Jerk – Gameweek 10

And now it seems that Leroy Sane is Pep’s new favourite. Surely we can’t go on like this, bending to Guardiola’s whims and moving from player to player as he switches his affections?

And yet, as this is typed, Fantasy managers are doing just that, making way for Leroy Sane’s arrival in their squad by selling David Silva and even Raheem Sterling. Just as last week we saw thousands eject Gabriel Jesus to welcome back Sergio Aguero.

As it turned out, that move went unpunished. The Brazilian could not deliver at The Hawthorns on starting ahead of Aguero, failing to even record a single shot on goal in a match that City dominated and registered 15 attempts.

That’s an alarming statistic and one that hardly offers encouragement for his security of start. Jesus’ owners will already be concerned that today’s decision to rest Aguero is further indication that Guardiola’s two main strikers are job sharing.

The midweek teamsheet in Napoli will provide new clues as to the intention for Gameweek 11, when Arsenal visit the Etihad Stadium. Depending on the teamsheet in Italy, Aguero could get the start against the Gunners, as he bids to finally break the club goal scoring record on home turf. That could see Jesus back on the bench. Maybe.

Pep’s rotation across his “five forwards” is clearly in full swing. There’s almost a system; almost a tantalising pattern forming.

Today Bernardo Silva started, while Raheem Sterling was omitted for a second successive Gameweek. However, this time it was Sterling who was the one of the five chosen for the now standard 30-minute cameo. He capitalised on that opportunity. Sterling’s goal – a seventh of the season – issued a reminder that he can work for us, even when handed limited pitch time.

But just three weeks ago, the idea of back-to-back bench roles for Sterling seemed improbable. He had started five successive league matches when available, with Pep smiling on the winger as his favoured “support striker” option.

Now Guardiola’s gaze appears to have shifted to Sane. The German has now started five successive league matches and seven of last eight in all competitions. In those five Gameweeks, he has supplied four goals and five assists and now sits on top of the overall FPL standings.

The case for Sane is strong, but is he really immune to his manager’s selection policy?

These continued attempts to break the code and work out Pep’s next shuffle is tiresome, but perhaps not as futile as the current market trend of moving from one City asset to the next.

Surely we have to commit, accept some frustration and hope we get value from our weapon of choice.

It’s highly debatable if that can be either Aguero or Jesus at this present time. However, one of Sterling or Sane, with Silva the less explosive but more dependable choice, looks the way to go.

Playing for higher stakes could pay off, but Guardiola’s game of roulette appears to be a major distraction for our transfer policy at a time when options like Eden Hazard are edging back into contention.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

It's all relative. I used it because I rage transferred a-16 and still had Kane during the week which of course was stupid. I ended up positive 20 points and wiped my -16 so it worked out. Last year in the blank game week I captained King and despite having a reduced squad I crushed it that week. There is a lot of luck involved also.

The big question is when to use the WC.

      In the same boat here-

Thought I would until after the break, but I'm falling behind a little, have some underperformers or poor form, need Kane back in after this week.
    Too kneejerk?

    Current squad:
    Elliot (Foster)
    Cedric, Alonso, Monreal (BSmith, Rangel)
    Eriksen, Silva, Richarlison, Atsu (RLC)
    Vardy, Laca, Kaku

    Considering this WC squad:
Cedric, Alonso, Monreal, BSmith; Atsu, RLC; Vardy, Laca >
Ward, Azpi or Ota, Daniels, Jones; Fernandinho, Zaha; Kane, Abraham

Are you sure you need Kane back next week? Seems an open question whether he'll play (and for how long) to me.

I am thinking GW12 may be more sensible, even if he plays against RM on Wednesday.

I kept him and am happy to keep him even if he misses next game. 5 pts from RLC and no hit means I didn't miss out on anything and with so much uncertainty around the big hitters and the top teams facing each other next week, I don't feel like I'll miss anything either so keeping him was the right move in my opinion.

Except we don't know if he was confident about the team. He only said that about the game last season. Why misinterpret the article and claim it had anything to do with him scoring? He scored because he's really good, that's all.

I clearly didn't misinterpret since he scored the goal in game.

Why does it bother you how we think and interpret things we read?

Of course we don't know what he was thinking but there was enough in that article for me to be confident enough I think Hazard to a) hold him for the fixture (given his away stats) and b) captain him.

And I was right... Don't see what else there is too this discussion

                  - You did, because that's not necessarily the reason he scored.

                  - Doesn't bother me at all, just having a discussion.

Of course its not the reason but the fact is he scored and I captained him because I had a feeling he would score..this feeling was based on the article I read.

Its all happenstance but at the end of the day, he hunch paid off. Fantasy football is based on hunches, we get players in we think are going to do well. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. In this case it did.

Why the sercasm? I merely posted an article that was published last season about a comment Hazard made.

If he had the feeling last year and he scored, then why would his feelings towards this fixture change?

Same as everyone else barking on about Kane's Wembley and September curse.

Because last year was last year. His form was different, Chelsea's form was different, Bournemouth's form was different. At the time, he felt he would score going into the game. It has nothing to do with the situation before this particular game.

He scored because he's good, that's all. He could've not scored too. Morata missed like a hundred chances. Don't misinterpret the article and say, "This is exactly why he scored, I knew he would".

I ve been on Abraham since GW1. As a Bristol City fan I saw more than enough evidence last year to suggest that he was a great value bet this year and would be the major attacking threat in an albeit limited Swans team.
At that price range his place is not contingent on scoring 6 points each week; i ll settle for regular minutes and a sprinkling of goals/assists. Having an extra 3 million to spend elsewhere really frees up options, whilst not worrying if he is this week’s 5.0m bandwagon means I’m not wasting transfers trying to fill the third striker slot. I ve always got a more pressing issue elsewhere.
